Gaming all day gives opportunity to meet new people from across the world and understand their culture, however it can disconnect people from the world that is right in front of them. Online gaming is fun, and should be allowed but not at excessive amounts. I think online gaming can be beneficial in proportions.
Online gaming can improve multi-tasking skills as well as hand eye coordination. In addition, gaming can stimulate the mind and your teamwork abilities. Gaming online is a lot of hand eye coordination as multitasking you could be typing a million things, while building something else. You could see how this could improve these things. Gaming stimulates your mind by making it work. Teamwork skills can also be improved by online gaming. You are working with the team to complete one task, and that is usually to win. Not only can online gaming be beneficial in these ways, but it can also improve your problem-solving skills. Other benefits of online gaming could be fast decision making, faster response time, and improve leadership skills. When gaming you have to make quick decisions in order to stay in the game, this could improve decision making as well as respond time. In games with teams, someone stepping up to lead them to winning could improve leadership skills too.
However, spending most of the day gaming can bad for someone. For starters, staring at a screen all day is not good for your eyes. Some people game so much they stop eating when they should, they procrastinate, and forget things. Also, it can lead to undeveloped communication skills. In the real world people have to communicate whether it’s through a screen or face to face. If these people who spend all day gaming have to communicate with someone in person, they may have a lack of communication skill due to just talking to a screen. It is a lot easier to communicate with someone who you don’t see, or know personally verses someone that you know well, and have to see their face and reaction to your conversation with them. Not only can it cause poor communication skills, gaming excessively may also lead to depression, obesity, sleep atrophy, exhaustion, and many more. Staring at a screen all day, and not getting any social interaction with people can lead to low self-esteem and eventually to depression. If someone games all day, and they have no physical activities, they may start to become overweight and slowly become obese. Playing games becomes addicting, leading to staying up and saying, “oh just one more.” Eventually, one more becomes five more and five more become staying up all night. A lack of sleep can have many effects on people not just exhaustion even thought this is a main symptom. Some may think sleeping isn’t needed but when you sleep, your body is resting. This means your heart, your brain, your lungs, everything is taking a test so it can be ready for the next day. If you don’t allow your body to rest you could potentially lead into serious medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart failure, diabetes, and or stroke. This is just the bare minimum of what a lack of sleep and can do to your body, and why lots of gaming could potentially lead to these scenarios.
Excessive gameplay cannot be good for anyone. These are just a few reason why, and it is very apparent that it’s not beneficial. It has many negative effects on one’s social aspects and health aspects. This is why gaming should be done in proper moderation.
