I moved around a lot growing up. I’ve lived in 5 states (Virginia, South Carolina, Ohio, North Carolina, and Illinois), none longer than 5 years. It develops a unique perspective and is an integral part of who I am and the choices I make. Every time we moved; I started over. I learned to adapt and accept change for what it is, an inescapable aspect of life, and I did so without losing sight of myself or my values. I learned that at its core change is an adventure, an opportunity to broaden my horizons and to learn more about myself as a person. I became more open to the world as it truly is rather than how I wished it could be. I opened myself up to the fullest extent of the experiences I was having. I learned that in a world full of variables I needed to be my own constant. So, I chose myself and I continue to choose myself. It gave me the strength to have faith in myself and be independent while also knowing it's okay to ask for help. It taught me that nothing is perfect, nothing stays the same forever. I learned it's in the imperfect things, ruined plans, and too hot days, that real memories are made, and lessons are learned. I learned to appreciate the things I’ve been given no matter how small.
Since moving to the Midwest, I’ve done and seen things I never thought I would. I’ve ridden a combine, gone hunting. I’ve thrown cow poop competitively and discovered that venison is freaking amazing. I found what I believe to be my passion. Agriculture. It’s universal. It’s a world of endless opportunity with the potential to make a difference. I want it to be my world.
