Fueled by the desire to make a meaningful impact, I strive to achieve beyond my goals in life. I attend Howard University, where I study architectural design. I plan to make time for being in cosmetology school to learn about cosmetic pleasure and pampering. In college, I want to be able to impact my life and other's lives positively. I've always been known as someone people could turn to for advice in their education or just help in their studies. I hope in college to continue to be that person and impact the lives of people who may be struggling in their studies or planning for after college. While also focusing on my goals and studies, I want to receive my master's degree in both architectural design and cosmetology. It has always been my dream to have a business of my own, and I will start by pursuing a career in real estate while building my business in interior and exterior design. Needless to say, I won't be stopping there. I want to have a successful career in cosmetology as well; maybe open my salon. I want my salon to be a place where people can go for an overall makeover. Makeup, hair, nails, eyebrows—you name it! Studies show that people find happiness when they engage in contributing to their overall appearance. Ever since I was a young girl, I loved to do hair, nails, and makeup; it's been a childhood dream of mine to do it professionally. Not only would this make me even more successful in the long run, but it would make me the happiest person to contribute to my childhood dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist. As for my dream of having my own business, I want to positively impact someone's life by creating a beautiful living space for someone who might be mentally or physically struggling. This dream started from a video game designing homes to sketches to decorating my room. Most people find comfort in their homes while dealing with grief, traumas, and depression, or even just to add to their happiness. If I can make a positive impact on someone's life by creating something so precious to them that lifts their joy and energy, I want to do that. I want to grow up, continue to be successful, and dedicate my life to becoming the unimaginable. This scholarship will help me pay for my college tuition while also teaching me the important habits of saving, something that will help me later for my business. Overall, success to me means being the unimaginable, and that is what I will accomplish in the next 5 years.

I can remember times in my early age when my father would promise to pick me up for the weekend and never show up. I would get so excited and talk about it the entire week. I didn’t realize until I was becoming a young adult just how much his absence has affected me and my mother. I‘ve had a hard time dealing with his absence because hearing other kids talk about their fathers makes me feel like I'm less than and missing something. The experience of not having a father has overall shaped my life. However, I knew that I couldn't let his absence affect me and who I was becoming. I have a big future and plan on doing everything I desire. Fueled by the desire to make a meaningful impact, I strive to achieve beyond my goals in life. While having the challenges of high school, I've experienced now more than ever the difficult time of losing my grandmother to cancer in 2021. That was the hardest thing I had ever gone through. We had a close relationship, and she was always my biggest cheerleader. Losing her was devastating and affected my performance in school. I remember my restless nights of missing her and wish it were all just a dream. There was no way she was really gone. I remember not waking up for class due to lack of sleep and missing my assignments. My friends always wondered why I so suddenly stopped coming to school. During the time of us planning her funeral, my mom took out many loans and completely dove into her savings. This caused stress on my mother while still trying to keep herself together for my sake. We began eating out a lot, causing us to gain very unhealthy weight. Even after all of those struggles, I knew that my grandmother was watching over me and that she was cheering me on the entire time and still is. I knew that she wouldn't want me to let this hardship get in the way of my education and plans for college, and I didn't want to let her down. Fueled by the desire to make a meaningful impact, I strive to achieve beyond my goals in life. After high school, I plan to attend Howard University, where I will study architectural design. I also hope to make time for being in cosmetology school to learn about cosmetic pleasure and pampering. In college, I want to be able to positively impact my life and other's lives. Nickels Student Athlete Scholarship
At the beginning of my sophomore year of high school, I tried out for my school's cheerleading team. I remember the urge to join the athletics department because it seemed like a great community and an opportunity to make friends. Fortunately, I made the team, and that was the start of a new beginning for me.
In the beginning, it was easy and simple: wake up, Go to school, Go to practice, and come home. I enjoyed it to the fullest and I had no regrets in trying it out. I met my 2 best friends in cheer and I thought that everything was great and god had been looking out for me. Only in my junior year, did I notice the stars starting to fade.
I didn't mention before that my team consisted of 20 girls: 17 white and 3 black girls. Me and my 2 best friends were the only black girls on the team. I always got stares and rude judgment from my other teammates, but it wasn't until my coaches that I noticed the team had been looking at us racially.
I always noticed that my 2 best friends and I were treated differently outside of the team. One particular incident that has stuck with me all these years started at our first basketball game. Me and my friends were so excited because we had never cheered before and this would be the first game we got to sit together. Intentionally, we sat together in the gym laughing, cheering, and having a good time at our first game. I remember my coach asking me why I'd choose to sit next to my 2 best friends. I very quickly thought and said well because they are my best friends of course. My coach then replied to me saying that it is not okay for 3 black girls to sit next to each other because “it doesn't look good” and it's “unpleasing for the audience”. She then made me and my friends split up from each other and I remember the rest of the game had not been fun like before.
After that incident, I dreaded coming to practice. I always wondered if that was what they had been thinking of us all this time. That we look unpleasing to them? It then came to the point that my 2 best friends quit in the middle of senior year and I was alone more than ever. I reluctantly ended up quitting too. I truly loved the sport and I hated that this decision was based on everyone else's opinions and feelings about me and my friends.
At the end of my senior year, I became a much more happier person. I noticed myself talking and engaging more with friends and family, and also school events. It wasn't til then that I noticed God still had been looking out for me. He showed me something new that I loved, but put me through a challenge I feel has shown me who I am.
I now encourage my younger audience to try out new things because no matter what, you won't be given a challenge you can't handle. Today I attend Howard University pursuing my career in Architecture. I plan to try out for my school cheer team so I continue the love I grew for the sport, with a group of people I don't have to be uncomfortable around.

While having the challenges of high school, I experienced now more than ever the difficult time of an absent father. My father has always been around but not consistently. Things with him have always been when he felt like being a father and that hasn’t been many times.
I can remember times in my early age when he would promise to pick me up for the weekend and never show up. I would get so excited and talk about it the entire week. I had a rolling Dora the Explorer backpack that I would fill with cartoon pajamas, kid's toothpaste, movies, and games so that he and I would never get bored, all for him not to show up without explanation. This has happened my entire life, but my mother was always there to pick up the pieces.
I didn’t realize until I was becoming a young adult just how much his absence has affected me. I‘ve had a hard time dealing with his absence because hearing other kids talk about their fathers makes me feel like I'm less than and missing something. I wish the relationships that I see in the movies of kids and their fathers could've been between me and my father. It's been especially hard in high school, due to the many events that he has missed that we will never get back.
The experience of not having a father has overall shaped my life. However, I knew that I couldn't let his absence affect me and who I was becoming. I have a big future and plan on doing everything I desire. If there is one thing I’ve learned throughout my life, it's to take the hard times and find a way to turn them into something positive.
I knew that I wanted to take full advantage of my high school education. I chose to be in the WAVE pathway which consists of faster pace learning and college AP courses. Graduating high school with being in the Wave pathway gave me more opportunities than most have. I am now attending Howard University with a major in Architect Design. I plan on receiving my Doctrine degree in Architect Design. I want to take on a real estate job and continue to build my career in architectural design. After college, I want to one day have a business of interior and exterior design. With all the hard work I have demonstrated already, I know I am capable of accomplishing my dream.
I hope that my accomplishments in life can show my father what he has missed out on. I want him to see that although he hasn't been there for me, I turned out to be very successful in the long run by just having faith in myself and striving through the hard times. My life has taught me a valuable lesson and that is to rely on your faith and keep your head held high.

ESOF Academic Scholarship
Dear Scholarship Committee,
I am delighted to introduce myself as Skye Youngblood, an aspiring architect and beauty enthusiast. As a proud African American woman and a first-year college student, I am excited about my educational journey at Howard University. I am pursuing a major in architecture along with a keen interest in interior design and cosmetology. I am writing to express my interest in the ESOF Academic Scholarship, a unique platform that combines the strength of diversity and the impact of education.
Throughout my high school years, my academic endeavors have been consistent and driven by an unyielding thirst for knowledge. I'm immensely proud of my 3.8 GPA, as it reflects my dedication, discipline, and fervor for learning. My strong academic performance is a testament to my commitment and ability to successfully undertake an undergraduate degree.
As I venture into the uncertainty that comes with college, I remember the moments when the certainty of my dreams first presented itself. I was fascinated by the buildings that touched the skies and the rooms that painted stories of their inhabitants without uttering a word. Architecture, to me, was an intriguing blend of science, art, and storytelling; each structure was a symphony of design and imagination; and its interiors were the epitome of aesthetic confluence. Pursuing architecture as a major was not only a decision but a natural inclination.
Parallel to my love for architecture runs, interestingly, my passion for cosmetology. Despite seeming unrelated to architecture, both demand creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to transform visions into reality. Expressing beauty and creativity through a much more intimate canvas within the realm of beauty therapy complements my love for designing larger, more permanent structures. It enriches my understanding of aesthetics, design, and creation, skills critical not just in cosmetology but in architecture as well.
With my career goal specifically being to invest in architectural crafts, my commitment to public service skyrockets as it leads me on the path to helping others. The art and design of becoming an architect unfold the service done for people looking for those fulfillments. In my career, I want to change the lives of the homeless and people in need of architectural needs. Not only does this change and make the world a better place, but also will distinguish the importance of black excellence and how the world continues to change.

Jerzee Foundation Scholarship
Dear Scholarship Committee,
I am delighted to introduce myself as Skye Youngblood, an aspiring architect and beauty enthusiast. As a proud African American woman and a first-year college student, I am excited about my educational journey at Howard University. I am pursuing a major in architecture along with a keen interest in interior design and cosmetology. I am writing to express my interest in the Jerzee Foundation Scholarship, a unique platform that combines the strength of diversity and the impact of education.
