September 21st, 2021. One of the most impactful days of my life. Not only was this moment significant to me, but was an experience that will last a lifetime and be told many years later. An event that will follow my school forever and continue to make changes in the years to come. Hello, I'm Sky Suber. Seventeen years old, currently enrolled at Cane Bay High School class of 23'. I've been attending Cane Bay since freshman year, and one thing I have observed frequently throughout my school experience is racism. Racism that would be frequently excused and tolerated my entire highschool life, until this day. It all began in my school's debate class, taught by a white teacher. Not just any white teacher, but someone who was loved and respected by many students. She is also responsible for coaching the tennis team and junior class committee and known for so much more around the school. In the class, the discussion began to touch on the history of the Confederate flag, and its connection to racism. The teacher disagreed with the statement and continued to touch on other topics involving racism. At this point, the discussion between the student and teacher became very intense back and forth. Moments later, she loudly remarks the N-word. Not only did she say an offensive, derogatory term loud in an entire classroom of students. She said it to my African American friend to her face while other African Americans were also in the room to witness the whole thing. Mind you, my friend has known this teacher for years. She has taught my friend for years, went to her home, called her mom, and has seen her as more than just an educator before this discussion. All of that history for absolutely nothing. This incident completely broke my friend entirely. She had enough of the discrimination faced at our school and had to do something about it. She reached out to me and shared her story. So then we both worked together to form the biggest protest at our school. Leading a protest wasn't easy, especially when you attend a white pronominal school. Many students and staff spoke negatively about organizing a protest and even mocked us for standing up against racism. But with much help from my community of POCs and allies, it became a reality. We both took it into our hands to be heard and make a difference at the school. Our protest did not only occur within the school, but we had parents and activists outside of the school supporting us as well. Awareness spread across social media about the protest. It even reached my local news, where my friend and I were interviewed about the protest and our personal experiences of racism at school. In the end, my friend and I had the teacher step down from her position as an educator and a higher standard set for my school. It was a teaching moment for the students, staff, and community to stand up for what is right. To not be afraid to speak up; you're not alone. The video linked includes me being interviewed at 1:25 and videos of the protest.

When I wake up in the morning I have one particular goal I work hard to achieve every day. And that is to make a difference. Regardless of how big or small the difference is, making a positive and memorable impact is what drives me. I’m currently a Junior in high school that loves music, being with friends, and enjoys cheesecake. But something I value over all these things is making a change. I also wish to pursue this passion through my future occupation. I plan to graduate high school, attend a 4-year college, then continue my studies at a law school to become a criminal justice lawyer in the future. Various professions specialize in helping the environment/people , but to single it out I feel like lawyers are in high demand and are exactly what everyone needs. We need educated and reliable lawyers to represent people as times get more and more difficult. Lawyers who will fight until we seek justice in America. As of right now, I do my part by focusing on school, volunteering at places in need, recycling, voicing my opinion, supporting others mentally/physically, and many more tasks that will slowly but surely lead to making a great impact. One that will change the world for the better

To start off I truly adore any form of nature. I get this familiar warmth feeling whenever I'm outside with any flowers, trees, and animals. I often go on walks to distress when I'm overwhelmed or even go to the beach to have a good time and ill feel at my best just being with nature. I also enjoy rain. Whenever I'm inside hearing the water droplets consistently hit the ground brings me comfort. Even when its storming I feel this happy safe feeling and will eventually fall to sleep. And to save the best for last sunsets and sunrises. Witnessing one in person is breathtaking and beyond magnificent. Watching sunrises truly brings me joy and makes me the most happy. It brings me a feeling of hope and new beginnings and just means so much to me. I could definitely go on for hours about sunrises and sunset and how much I love them. Next I would say music. Music plays a big part of my life and is who I am. For years I've invested myself and grew an unconditional love for music. Hearing and making music truly makes me happy. I'll be in any mood and music will instantly make me happy every time. It's honestly therapeutic and an amazing way to express my emotions. To conclude everything I would say life makes me happy. I feel like it's the most generic answer but I believe it's considered the most beautiful and greatly impactful at the least. The thought of a new beginning is amazing to me. It makes me happy to think of the potential there is to make a positive enormous impact one day

Sky Alexandria Suber, I’m currently 16 years old in my junior year. Love to sing, run track, and be with loved ones. Enough about me let’s touch on the important stuff, my ideal future, and the impact I will make with my future studies. I plan on attending a four-year college to receive my Bachelor’s, after that I’ll go to Law School to receive my Juris Doctrine to pursue my career as an Entertainment Lawyer/Attorney. This particular field isn’t a job for just anyone. It takes someone who is educated, has advanced communication, and most importantly determination. It is a career that is in high demand and is extremely competitive to excel in. Since 2nd grade, I've had a love for music. I’ve been involved in extra music composition studies, Music Summer Programs/Camps, perform many concerts/musicals, and participated in various honor choirs over the years. With this strong passion for music, I know I'll be the best person for the job. I can guarantee an excellent experience for my future clients with the passion and knowledge I withhold. It is my goal to become an important part of this new generation of music. I believe that future artists will impact the world with their gifts amazingly and need Entertainment Lawyers to support and protect them. Many artists have unique sounds that they've formulated and it is critically important that they receive their credit. Also with technology advancing, I need to be able to understand and adapt to the environment or any situation. It's is my job to do that, be their guardian angel so they can prevail. There is also an overwhelming amount of evil within the industry, so I need the right education to not lead them astray in situations. I will have to negotiate contracts, instruct meetings, show them ways to maximize earnings, manage their taxes, and many other responsibilities. This career takes much commitment with the sacrifices that will be at stake. For clients, it'll take much traveling and work overtime. So I'll have to master balancing all of my responsibilities with my personal health as well. Overall this career is not for the weak. It is for someone with specific qualities and interests. I believe with the right education and experience I’ll be more than qualified for this field of study. It might not be the most well-known career choice to pursue, but it is a crucial one. One that is needed for the tremendous talent we have yet to face that will influence and impact generations of people forever.
