Hi there!
I’m Simran, an incoming Master's Student at Georgia Tech studying Data Science. I recently graduated Emory University where I majored in Quantitative Sciences and Biological Anthropology, exploring my passion for using data science to improve human health, well-being, and safety. My work in the healthcare and autonomous vehicle industries has reinforced my commitment to applying data-driven solutions to critical challenges in these areas.
At Emory, I served as President of the Data Science Club, focusing on making data science inclusive and accessible for all Emory students. I also pursued my love for music as a leader of Emory Suri A Cappella, Emory’s premier South Asian fusion a cappella team.
Now, I’m pursuing a master’s in Data Science to further develop my skills and make a meaningful impact—all while staying connected to my interests in music, health, and the people around me.

Redefining Victory Scholarship
Success, to me, is about mastering a field I am passionate about and using that expertise to uplift others striving to do the same. It is not just about personal achievement but about creating opportunities for those who come after me. This scholarship will provide the financial support necessary for me to fully dedicate myself to my Master’s in Data Science, deepening my expertise in the field while also allowing me to continue mentoring students interested in data science.
My passion for mentorship stems from my own challenges and experiences. In high school, I was one of only four girls in a class of 30 students in my AP Computer Science class. Determined to succeed, I spent hours coding each night, but as the pace accelerated, I struggled to keep up. Eventually, I made the difficult decision to drop the course—a moment that left me discouraged, intimidated, and doubting my abilities. When I began my studies at Emory University, I initially avoided coding altogether. However, through volunteering with Emory Girls Who Code, I rediscovered my love for technology. Teaching middle and high school girls how to code reignited my confidence and passion for technology fields, showing me that success isn’t just about overcoming obstacles but also about helping others do the same.
With renewed confidence, I pursued a degree in Quantitative Sciences, embracing coding, math, and statistics—subjects that once intimidated me. I not only excelled academically and in my various internships, but also dedicated myself to supporting others on their own journeys. As the President of the Emory Data Science Club, I led initiatives to encourage students to explore data science and artificial intelligence, connect with professionals, gain experience in real-world projects, and secure internships. Seeing younger students thrive because of the opportunities I helped create was incredibly rewarding. It reinforced my belief that my success is measured by both my own achievements and by the impact I have on others.
Now, as I progress in my academic journey, this scholarship will help me focus more on expanding my expertise in data science and AI while continuing to mentor students entering these fields. With fewer financial constraints, I will have the time and energy to deepen my knowledge, attend educational events, engage with industry professionals, and build meaningful relationships with my peers. As I build my own skills, I will also be able to guide students interested in data science through the complexities of career development, graduate school applications, and the rapidly evolving technology landscape. I hope to continue this mentorship throughout my career, and believe this opportunity will allow me to build a strong foundation in doing so.
This opportunity will bring me one step closer to success, where I not only advance in my own career but also empower others to blossom as well. With the support of this scholarship, I will continue to bridge the gap for those who, like me, once doubted their place in this field, ensuring that success is not just personal, but shared.
