My name is Simone De La Cruz, and I am a dedicated student at Los Angeles Pierce College, pursuing a career in child and adolescent psychiatry. My academic journey is deeply intertwined with my passion for mental health advocacy, international collaboration, and creating lasting change and improvement in the lives of young people as well as underrepresented communities. My ultimate goal is to become a psychiatrist specializing in youth mental health, working in diverse environments such as hospitals, clinics, and global organizations like the United Nations to promote mental health accessibility worldwide. My passion for mental health stems from personal experiences and a deep desire to bridge gaps in mental health care, especially for underserved communities. I have been actively involved in initiatives that promote mental health awareness, serve as a Wellness Ambassador for Give An Hour, and work with environmental organizations like Shift Our Ways to address the intersection of mental well-being and environmental sustainability. Additionally, I have contributed to academic research on urban planning in high school, examining how architectural layouts affect a community. Beyond academics, I am a long-distance runner and have completed two Los Angeles marathons. This has instilled resilience and discipline in me. Running has been a source of mental clarity and perseverance—qualities that drive my academic and professional aspirations. My commitment to serving my community and leadership is evident in my volunteer work, including community garden projects, tutoring, and leadership roles in school organizations, where I strengthened my skills in storytelling, project management, leadership, communication, and advocacy. This scholarship would significantly impact my ability to continue my education and pursue my long-term goals. As a first-generation college student navigating the rigorous demands of pre-med and psychology, financial support would alleviate the burden of tuition and resources, allowing me to focus on excelling academically and engaging in research, internships, and service opportunities that will help shape my career. Additionally, this funding would provide me with the means to continue building my expertise in global mental health knowledge, ensuring I can contribute to meaningful advancements in psychiatric care and policy. Receiving this scholarship would not only bring me closer to my dream of becoming a child and adolescent psychiatrist but also enable me to continue advocating for mental health accessibility and awareness on a larger scale whilst at my current level of education. Through my faith, resilience, and unwavering commitment to making a difference, I am determined to use my education to serve communities worldwide, ensuring that mental health care is a fundamental right for all.
