My goal in life is to become a neonatal nurse practitioner. This goal originally started as me wanting to become a nurse then eventually becoming a nurse-midwife. This is a goal that I set while I was attending high school. For my graduation project, I shadowed a nurse-midwife to get an understanding of what the job entailed. I considered attending a direct entry midwife program located in Middlebury, Vermont. However, I realized that I wanted to take some time to make sure that this was something I actually wanted to do. I took some time to gain life experience before attending college. During this time, I have worked in the social services and mental health field. I had become a mother to an amazing step-son and two beautiful daughters. When I decided that I was ready to attend college, the COVID pandemic had just begun. My education options became limited. I started to take courses online, in which I have excelled. I decided that I would take core courses to work towards becoming a medical assistant. My advisor mentioned becoming an LPN through Vermont Technical College. This was the moment I realized that I might be able to start pursuing my first goal of becoming a nurse. As I worked on the prerequisites for the LPN and Associate's degree in Nursing, I was able to gain a certification in Allied Health through the Community College of Vermont. Most of the courses that were required for the LPN and ASN matched perfectly for me to complete an associate's degree in Health Science. At this time, I am attending the final course to complete my associate's degree.
