One of the most fulfilling volunteer events I organized was a community outreach initiative that brought much-needed resources to at-risk students in Cincinnati. This event, which I organized in my capacity as part of the leadership of the National Society of Leadership & Success (NSLS) and IT Proud, was a testament to the power of community action and the great reward of leadership through service. The event was intended to supply students in need with the tools to succeed academically, and not just offer physical support, but also counseling and mentorship to help further their development in the future. The project was centered on a school supply drive, where we accepted donations of backpacks, school supplies, and hygiene kits to distribute to needy students in the community. Yet this event was about so much more than giving physical supplies—it was about giving a sense of belonging, hope, and encouragement to students who were up against challenges outside of their control. Our aim was to give these students the means to be academically successful and encourage them to have faith in their abilities. Through active outreach and organization, we had over 250 RSVPs to the event, which was more than we had hoped for. We coordinated with local schools, community organizations, and businesses to accept donations. We ended up with an entire car full of supplies that we were able to distribute, giving each student a full backpack of supplies and the support that they needed. The response was overwhelming, with over 200 students directly benefiting from the event, and dozens of volunteers coming forward to be mentors and guides. As one of the lead organizers, my role was to coordinate the logistics, ensure that everything happened like clockwork on the day of the event, and make sure each volunteer felt confident and empowered to serve. I assisted my team in distributing and packing the supplies, conversing with the students, and engaging in discussions that would encourage them to realize their academic goals. What struck me most was the deep feeling of appreciation and excitement on the students' and their families' behalf—many of whom had never experienced the type of community support that we were able to provide. The importance of servant leadership cannot be overstated. It is through serving that leaders have a lasting impact—not just by fulfilling immediate needs, but by calling others to live at their highest potential. Leadership is building empathy, creating opportunities for others, and serving with purpose. At this event, I witnessed firsthand how servant leadership has the power to build a community of hope, where people are inspired, connected, and motivated to make a difference in their own way. This event reaffirmed my belief that leadership is not about authority, but about empowering others. It showed me that when leaders get involved with serving their communities, they create a ripple effect that encourages others to step forward, take initiative, and serve in their own meaningful ways. The success of this event was not measured in how many supplies we collected, but in the lives we touched and the inspiration that we evoked in those whom we served. In conclusion, this volunteering activity reminded me that leadership is most effective when it is a service to others. It reminded me that to lead is to serve and that leaders are individuals who help others achieve their objectives by offering them their resources, time, and support. What I learned from this experience was the amount of difference we can make as a community when we come together to help each other grow.

Technology is intended to unite people, not isolate them. It must empower, not disenfranchise. My enthusiasm for computer science, specifically the study of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), comes from a desire for technology to be accessible, understandable, and available to everyone. I am compelled by the vision of the most significant technological innovation being that which amplifies human experience, strengthens relationships, and guarantees that everyone remains on equal footing in the modern age. In computer science, my greatest interest is in HCI because it allows me to integrate technical innovation with human-centered design. I am particularly interested in creating systems and interfaces that improve accessibility, usability, and equity in technology. Too often, digital platforms are created without regard for the needs of diverse users—especially those with disabilities, language constraints, or limited access to technology. My goal is to turn that around by designing intuitive, accessible, and morally responsible interfaces that serve a broad variety of users. Along with my technical goals, I am deeply committed to leadership, education, and advocacy. Through my involvement in student groups and leadership roles, I have seen firsthand how technology can be both a tool of inclusion and a barrier to opportunity. My non-computer science goals involve building inclusive environments, advocating for equal access to learning, and mentoring the next generation of diverse technology leaders. My aspiration is that leadership in tech isn't just about innovation but also about stewardship and ensuring that all people have the potential to participate in a meaningful way with digital tools. Of most interest to me is the potential to combine these goals. HCI presents the perfect union of computer science and human-centered problem-solving. I would prefer to develop more accessible systems either via adaptive interfaces, assistive technology, or responsible AI-fueled user experiences. As an example, I am particularly interested in examining how voice interaction and gesture interfaces can be applied to enable greater access to technology for the disabled. Similarly, I see enormous potential in applying machine learning to design more inclusive and personalized user interfaces that accommodate people with different cognitive capabilities and modalities. My vision, ultimately, is to make technology work for humanity as best as possible. I hope to champion a world where UX design is never an afterthought but a prime consideration in any technological innovation. Whether it's designing interfaces that bridge language and cultural divides, improving disability access to online education, or developing AI that speaks responsibly to humans, my HCI work will always be driven by the conviction that technology must be intuitive, empowering, and accessible to all. In everything that I do, I will stand for a digital world that is more inclusive—where technology never leaves anyone behind but brings everyone closer to each other, closer to opportunities and resources. That is the future I will help make a reality.
