I really want to pursue higher education because it’s firstly the only way I could get my dream job, which is being a surgeon, and also it’s in general an great way to get a good paying job. And I also want to learn more about the things I’m specifically interested in. Which college allows me to do unlike high school. I have the freedom to choose any path I want and that’s what I love about getting a higher education. This year I joined National Honors Society at my school and I also joined a club called The college success foundation. I also got a scholarship to study abroad through a program called NSLI-y for the summer. I’m studying Arabic through that program. Some clubs I plan on joining next year are, key club, NHS again, Black student union, the yearbook club, and I’ll still be continuing with the college success foundation club. Currently I’m really passionate about the field of medicine and everything about it. I love the work that doctors do and I love learning about human anatomy and how the body functions. I’m also specifically interested in psychology specifically criminology. I find it interesting to see why murderers act the way they act and if it’s nature or nurture.

As a black, muslim woman, I've experienced so much discrimination in my life. But not once did that discourage me, in fact it made me want to push, and work harder to fight society's expectations of me. This one time I was having a civil argument with someone about assault, and they decided to mention my race and they said to me "shut up, aren't you black? You should ask for permission before speaking to me." At first I was enraged that someone would ever say this to me, but I decided not to reply to them and blow up in their face. I did tell them how wrong they were about me and I told myself that this wouldn't discourage me because I knew my worth. With these experiences and discrimination, I would be able to calm myself down in a situation like that in the workforce. I would understand that they're just trying to get under my skin and that I know that I bekong here and I don't need anyone else telling me otherwise. And in a calmly manner I would speak to the person or address the issue, and I would hear the person out but at the same time I would stand my ground because someone's race, sexuality, religion etc. should not be a problem in the workforce. And I would then explain how their point of view might be problematic, if it is racist or sexist etc. And if none of this worked I would then bring it up to the people who have more power than I do, because I believe that everyone deserves to have a healthy workspace and not be disctiminated against. I always take these discriminatory experiences as a way to be more self reflective because I just wonder why people would discrimate against me for no reason at all and I try to learn from these experiences and I try to not take them to harshly. Because these experiences can be really heartbreaking and could easily bring down my self-esteem. So I usually try to understand that none of this is my fault and that sometimes people hate for no reason and I try to be more educated on subjects like these so I can easily have an argument prepared just so I can educate people. Because so many people are just not educated enough on some topics like race.
