WinnerAfter high school, I plan on pursuing an education in psychology at Northern Kentucky University. With this major choice, I plan on specializing in developmental psychology. Developmental psychology has been a key aspect of my life for the last several years and I have Ludlow High School to thank for that. In 2024, I participated in Summer Shine, a school run program that helps make sure kids retain important educational skills over the summer, while still having fun. As a former kid who was a part of these programs, getting to volunteer helped show me how important it is to assist our community and create memorable times for these kids, like so many people did for me. The first summer doing this, I got a new view of our community and how much work was in place to make it feel welcoming. I got to be a part of helping these kids learn, while making sure it was fun. These kids, over the few weeks in the summer, would talk to me and show me how important it is to sit down and help them. Whether that was trying to teach them to tie their shoes or do basic math. I found every experience important and a view of how supportive Ludlow is as a whole, to a point I came back for another summer to help with these kids in 2025. This program helped me figure out what I was going to do after high school. For once, I got a view on how important it was to me to work with children. To me, influencing a child's life for the better means being able to help at least one person achieve a life that everyone deserves. This influenced me to follow a career in developmental psychology. A degree that will forever allow me to better a child's life, allowing them to come and talk to me about things that people might not understand. I believe Summer Shine distinctively influenced my career, due to how much belief Ludlow puts into these kids succeeding. Unlike some schools, it's a small community that pushes each other to be the best you, you can be. Without this community, I don't think I would have been as positive in my future as I am now. I am forever grateful for the ability Ludlow gave me to volunteer in this program and show me what I would like to do as a career.
