    Bulkthreads.com's "Let's Aim Higher" Scholarship
The most important thing I want to build is a meaningful and stable future for myself and the people around me. I want to build a career in healthcare, but more importantly, I want to build a life centered around helping others, continuing to learn, and becoming someone my community can depend on. My education is the foundation of that future. I am working toward completing my healthcare education and gaining the knowledge and practical experience necessary to have a successful career. My goal is to continue my education, complete my required training, gain hands-on experience, and eventually establish myself in a stable healthcare career. I know reaching this goal will require time, financial investment, discipline, and persistence. I plan to use scholarships, financial aid, academic resources, mentors, and professional opportunities to help me get there. I also want to build confidence and resilience within myself. Living with OCD and PTSD has taught me that life can be difficult even when people cannot see what you are experiencing. Instead of allowing those challenges to define my future, I want to use them to develop greater empathy for others. My experiences have taught me how important it is to feel heard, supported, and understood. As I build my future, I hope to positively impact my community by becoming someone who encourages others to pursue their goals even when their circumstances make the journey difficult. I want to help people feel cared for and remind them that asking for help is not a weakness. Whether that impact comes through my healthcare career, supporting friends and classmates, or simply being someone who listens without judgment, I want my life to make a difference. Ultimately, I am not just trying to build a career. I am building a life that reflects my values. I want to build stability, meaningful relationships, resilience, and a future where I can use what I have learned to help others. I know the process will take patience and hard work, but every class I complete, obstacle I overcome, and person I help is another piece of the future I am building.
    Elizabeth Schalk Memorial Scholarship
I am a hardworking student who is passionate about building a meaningful career, continuing my education, and creating a future where I can make a positive difference in the lives of others. I have always tried to push myself toward my goals, even when life has not gone exactly as planned. One of the experiences that has shaped me most is living with OCD and PTSD. Mental illness has affected my life in ways that are not always visible to other people. OCD has taught me how exhausting intrusive thoughts, anxiety, and the need for reassurance can be. PTSD has also affected how I respond to certain situations and has shown me that healing is not always a straight line. There are days when managing my mental health requires significant energy in addition to everything else I am responsible for as a student. At times, my mental health has made school and everyday responsibilities more challenging. I have had to learn how to manage difficult thoughts and emotions while still attending classes, completing assignments, working, and planning for my future. There have been moments when I questioned myself and wondered whether my struggles would prevent me from reaching my goals. Instead, they have taught me resilience and helped me understand that needing support does not make me weak. My experiences have also changed the way I view other people. Because mental illness is not always visible, I have become much more aware that we never truly know what someone else is carrying. This has made me more compassionate, patient, and willing to listen without judgment. I believe that one of the most important things we can do for someone struggling with their mental health is remind them that they are not alone. Living with OCD and PTSD has certainly presented challenges, but it has also shaped who I am in meaningful ways. It has taught me to appreciate progress, ask for help when I need it, and keep moving forward even when the path is difficult. My mental health is a part of my story, but it does not define my potential. I want to use what I have learned from my experiences to help create a future where mental health is discussed openly and without shame. I hope to continue my education, build a career helping others, and be someone who makes people feel seen and supported. My journey has not been perfect, but it has made me stronger and has given me a deeper understanding of resilience, empathy, and the importance of taking care of one another.
Learner Mental Health Empowerment for Health Students Scholarship
Mental health is important to me as a student because I know firsthand how much it can affect every part of a person's life, including education, relationships, confidence, and the ability to reach personal goals. Living with OCD and PTSD has taught me that someone can look completely fine on the outside while struggling significantly on the inside. As a student, I have learned that taking care of my mental health is not separate from academic success; it is an important part of being able to succeed. There have been times when anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and difficult emotions have made school and everyday responsibilities feel more overwhelming. These experiences have taught me to recognize when I need support instead of believing I have to handle everything alone. I have learned to give myself grace, ask for help when necessary, and remember that struggling does not make someone weak or incapable. I advocate for mental health in my community by creating an environment where people feel comfortable talking about what they are experiencing without fear of judgment. I try to listen when friends or classmates need someone to talk to, check in on people who may be struggling, and remind others that seeking professional help is a strength rather than something to be ashamed of. I also believe that simply being willing to have honest conversations can help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. As a student, I try to advocate through my actions as well. I encourage people to prioritize rest, recognize their limits, use campus resources, and reach out to trusted friends, counselors, professors, or other professionals when they need additional support. I believe mental health advocacy does not always require a large campaign. Sometimes it is as simple as asking someone, “Are you okay?” and genuinely listening to the answer. My own experiences have also made me more compassionate toward people whose struggles I cannot see. I have learned that everyone has different challenges and that we should not judge someone based on what we see on the surface. I want to be someone who helps make my school and community a place where people feel supported rather than isolated. Ultimately, mental health is important to me because I understand how deeply it can affect a person's life. My experiences with OCD and PTSD have challenged me, but they have also taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of asking for help. I hope to use those lessons to support others and remind them that they do not have to face their struggles alone.
    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I am a fan of Sabrina Carpenter because I admire how she has built her career through years of hard work, growth, and perseverance. She has been in the entertainment industry from a young age, but instead of allowing other people's expectations to define her, she has continued to evolve as an artist and as a person. I find that especially inspiring because success rarely happens overnight. It often comes from continuing to work toward your goals even when people do not immediately recognize your potential. What I admire most about Sabrina is her ability to be confident while still being authentic. Her music can be funny, emotional, vulnerable, and empowering all at once. She does not seem afraid to embrace different sides of herself, and that reminds me that I do not have to fit into one definition of who I am supposed to be. I can grow, change my goals, make mistakes, and still move forward. Her career has impacted me by reminding me to be patient with my own journey. I have experienced challenges with my mental health, including OCD and PTSD, and there have been times when uncertainty made me question myself and my future. Watching Sabrina's career develop over time reminds me that everyone's timeline looks different. Just because success does not happen immediately does not mean it is not coming. I also appreciate how Sabrina has turned different stages of her career into opportunities to grow. That encourages me to view my own experiences the same way. My education and career path have not always been completely straightforward, but every experience has taught me something and helped me understand what I want for my future. Sabrina Carpenter's career has ultimately taught me that persistence matters. She has shown that you can continue developing your talents, take risks, and become more confident without needing to have everything figured out at once. As I work toward my own educational and career goals, I hope to carry that same determination with me. I may not know exactly what every part of my future will look like, but I know that continuing to learn, grow, and believe in myself can eventually lead me somewhere meaningful.
Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
My primary goal is to complete my education, build a stable career in healthcare, and create a future where I can support myself and my family while making a positive difference in the lives of others. I want my career to provide financial stability, personal fulfillment, and opportunities to continue learning. I also want to become someone who uses my experiences and education to help others feel supported and cared for. Education and Career Goals My first priority is successfully completing my remaining education and preparing for a healthcare career. My plan is to stay organized with my coursework, maintain strong grades, seek academic support when necessary, and gain practical experience whenever possible. I will use resources such as academic advisors, professors, tutoring, financial-aid services, scholarships, career services, and professional organizations. My timeline is to complete my prerequisite coursework, enter my professional program, complete clinical or hands-on training, and obtain the certifications or licenses required for my chosen career. During school, I will continue gaining experience in healthcare settings so I can better understand patients' needs and develop professional skills. Financial Plan Paying for education is one of the biggest challenges I anticipate, so I plan to use multiple sources rather than relying on one. My estimated education budget will include: * Tuition and fees: approximately $5,000–$10,000 per year, depending on the program * Books and required materials: $500–$1,000 per year * Transportation and clinical expenses: approximately $1,000–$2,000 per year * Certification/licensing expenses: approximately $500–$1,500 * Emergency/personal expenses: approximately $1,000 My goal is to reduce these costs through scholarships, grants, financial aid, employer assistance, and careful budgeting. I will apply for scholarships consistently rather than only once a year and will look for opportunities specifically designed for healthcare and STEM students. I will also continue working when possible while balancing employment with school. ### Backup Plans and Other Paths to Success I understand that plans sometimes change. If I encounter financial difficulties, academic challenges, or unexpected circumstances, I will not view that as the end of my goal. My backup options include taking fewer classes while continuing to make progress, seeking tutoring or academic support, applying for additional scholarships, working additional hours during school breaks, or exploring alternative accredited healthcare programs with lower costs or shorter completion times. I will also regularly evaluate my progress. At the end of each semester, I will review my grades, finances, career progress, and overall goals and make adjustments where necessary. This will allow me to identify problems early instead of waiting until they become overwhelming. Long-Term Goals After completing my education and beginning my career, my goal is to establish financial independence and eventually increase my income through experience, additional certifications, or advanced education. I want to build savings, reduce debt, and prepare for major future expenses such as housing and supporting a family. Ultimately, my plan is not simply to earn a degree or obtain a job. I want to create a sustainable life. By combining education, healthcare experience, financial planning, scholarships, professional networking, and flexibility when challenges arise, I believe I can reach my goals. I know the path may not always be perfect, but I am committed to continuing forward, using the resources available to me, and finding another route whenever an obstacle appears.
    Taylor Swift Fan Scholarship
The Taylor Swift performance I find most moving is her performance of **“Long Live”** during the *Speak Now World Tour*. What makes this performance so meaningful to me is that it feels like more than a concert. It feels like a celebration of everything she and her fans experienced together. “Long Live” is a song about remembering the people who stood beside you during important moments and recognizing how special those memories are. When Taylor performs it in front of thousands of people, there is a feeling that everyone in the room is part of the story. I find that especially moving because life is made up of moments when we overcome challenges, celebrate accomplishments, and realize how far we have come. I also connect with the performance because my own journey has not always been straightforward. I have experienced challenges with my mental health, including OCD and PTSD, while also working toward my education, career goals, and future. There have been times when I have questioned myself or wondered whether I was strong enough to keep moving forward. Watching Taylor perform a song about making it through difficult moments reminds me that the struggles we experience can eventually become part of the story we are proud to tell. What makes Taylor's performances so powerful to me is her ability to make something enormous feel personal. Even when she is performing for tens of thousands of people, her emotions and storytelling make the audience feel connected to her. “Long Live” captures that feeling of looking back and realizing that the difficult moments were worth fighting through. The performance reminds me that success is not just about reaching a final destination. It is also about the people who support us, the obstacles we overcome, and the memories we create along the way. For me, that is what makes Taylor Swift's performance of “Long Live” so moving. It represents resilience, gratitude, and the idea that even the hardest chapters can eventually become some of the most meaningful parts of our story.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My experience with mental health, particularly living with OCD and PTSD, has shaped the way I see myself, my relationships, my goals, and the world around me. While these challenges have not always been easy, they have taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of taking care of my mental well-being. Living with OCD has taught me how powerful thoughts and anxiety can feel, even when I know logically that they may not reflect reality. PTSD has also affected the way I respond to certain situations and has taught me that healing is not always a straight line. There are good days and difficult days, and I have learned that having a difficult day does not mean I am failing. It means I am human. These experiences have also influenced my relationships. I have become more understanding of the fact that everyone carries struggles that may not be visible to others. I try to be more patient and compassionate instead of making assumptions about what someone else is experiencing. My own experiences have shown me how meaningful it can be when someone simply listens, offers understanding, or reminds you that you are not alone. My mental health has also influenced my goals. It has made me want to build a future where I can help others feel supported, understood, and cared for. I want my experiences to become a source of empathy rather than something that limits me. I have learned that my challenges do not define what I am capable of accomplishing. Most importantly, OCD and PTSD have changed my understanding of the world. I have learned that strength does not always look like being fearless or having everything under control. Sometimes strength is continuing forward while experiencing fear, uncertainty, or difficult emotions. My mental health journey has taught me to celebrate progress, ask for help when I need it, and give myself the same compassion that I would give someone else. Although mental health has presented challenges in my life, it has also given me a deeper understanding of resilience and compassion. I cannot change everything I have experienced, but I can choose what I do with those experiences. I want to use what I have learned to create a meaningful future and to be someone who helps others feel seen, supported, and understood.
    Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
One Olivia Rodrigo lyric that resonates with my own experience is from “making the bed”: **“I got the things I wanted.”** This lyric stands out to me because it reflects the complicated emotions that come with growing up, making choices, and realizing that life does not always turn out exactly as planned. My journey has involved a lot of growth, uncertainty, and changes in direction. I have explored different areas of education and different career possibilities, and there have been times when I questioned whether changing my plans meant that I had failed. Watching other people seem confident about their futures can make it easy to feel behind when you are still figuring out your own path. However, I have learned that taking a different direction does not mean that the previous steps were wasted. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that it is okay for my goals to change as I learn more about myself. Every experience has helped me understand what I value, what I am capable of, and what kind of future I want to build. Instead of seeing those changes as mistakes, I now see them as part of growing into the person I am meant to become. Balancing school, work, responsibilities, and my future goals has not always been easy. There have been moments when I felt overwhelmed or uncertain about whether I was doing enough. Even so, I have continued moving forward. I have pursued my education, gained valuable experiences, and continued working toward a career where I can help others and make a meaningful difference. These experiences have taught me resilience, patience, and determination. Olivia Rodrigo's music resonates with me because she captures emotions that come with growing up, including self-doubt, uncertainty, change, and the pressure to have everything figured out. Her lyrics remind me that life can be messy while still being meaningful. When I look at my journey, I am proud that I have continued pursuing my goals even when my plans have changed. My greatest triumphs are not just my accomplishments but the moments when I chose not to give up. I have learned that changing direction can be a sign of growth rather than failure. Ultimately, “I got the things I wanted” reminds me that sometimes achieving what we thought we wanted helps us discover what we truly need. I may not have every part of my future figured out, but I know that every experience has brought me closer to understanding who I am and who I want to become.
    Annie Pringle Memorial Scholarship
Breast health education is important to me because I believe every woman deserves to understand her own body and feel confident advocating for her health. Breast cancer and other breast-related conditions affect millions of women, yet many women may not know what changes to look for, what questions to ask, or when a concern should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools we can provide because knowledge can give women the confidence to recognize changes and seek appropriate care rather than ignoring something because they are unsure whether it is important. One of the things that stands out to me most is how many women do not know how to perform breast self-awareness checks or recognize what is normal for their own bodies. Women can experience lumps, changes in breast appearance, nipple changes, pain, cysts, fibrocystic changes, and other concerns. While not every change is a sign of cancer, knowing what is normal for you can make it easier to recognize when something has changed. I want women to understand that they do not have to be medical professionals to pay attention to their health. They simply need accurate information and the confidence to speak up when something does not feel right. My interest in breast health education is closely connected to my desire to pursue a career in nursing and eventually become a nurse practitioner. I am especially interested in women’s healthcare because I want to help address areas where women may feel overlooked or uncomfortable asking questions. I believe healthcare providers have a responsibility to educate patients, not simply treat them when they become sick. Teaching women about breast health, appropriate screening, risk factors, and changes that should be discussed with a provider can help make preventative healthcare a regular part of their lives. As a future healthcare provider, I hope to make breast health education simple, approachable, and free of fear. I would encourage women to become familiar with their breasts and understand how they normally look and feel. I would also emphasize that self-awareness does not replace professional screening or medical evaluation. Instead, it gives women another way to participate in their own healthcare. I want to create an environment where patients feel comfortable saying, “I noticed something different,” without feeling embarrassed or afraid that their concern will be dismissed. I also want to help women understand that seeking medical attention does not mean something is necessarily wrong; it means they are taking responsibility for their health. I believe education should begin early and continue throughout a woman's life. Young women should learn basic breast health and understand the importance of knowing their bodies. As women age, they should also understand how screening recommendations may change based on age, family history, and individual risk factors. I would like to use my future career to encourage women to have regular conversations with their healthcare providers and understand which screenings are appropriate for them. Ultimately, breast health education matters to me because I want women to feel empowered rather than uninformed about their health. I cannot prevent every illness, but I can help provide women with the knowledge to recognize potential concerns and seek care when they need it. My goal is to become a healthcare provider who listens to women, educates them, and encourages them to advocate for themselves. I hope that through my nursing career, I can help make breast health education a normal and empowering part of women’s healthcare rather than something discussed only after a problem occurs. Every woman deserves to know her body, understand her health, and feel confident speaking up for herself.
    Kayla Nicole Monk Memorial Scholarship
I chose to further my education in STEAM because I am fascinated by the way science, technology, and healthcare can come together to improve people’s lives. My academic journey has allowed me to explore biology, biotechnology, research, and nursing, and each experience has shown me that learning does not stop when a class ends. I want an education that challenges me to think critically, ask questions, and apply what I learn to real-world problems. For me, STEAM represents curiosity, innovation, and the opportunity to create meaningful change. My passion for science became especially strong through my experience working as a research assistant in a laboratory focused on drug discovery and antibiotic research. Being part of a research environment taught me the importance of persistence, attention to detail, and evidence-based thinking. It showed me that scientific progress does not happen overnight. It takes people who are willing to ask difficult questions, learn from unsuccessful experiments, and continue searching for better solutions. That experience helped me realize that I want to build a career where science is not only something I study, but something I use to serve others. I am now pursuing nursing with the long-term goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. I hope to eventually open my own functional medicine clinic, with a particular interest in women’s health and geriatric care. I want to combine my scientific background with patient care to help people better understand their health and make informed decisions. I am particularly passionate about preventative care, nutrition, healthy aging, and helping patients feel empowered rather than overwhelmed by healthcare. This scholarship would help me continue pursuing my education while reducing some of the financial barriers that come with being a student. More importantly, it would be an investment in the future I am working toward. Every step of my education brings me closer to becoming a healthcare provider who can make a lasting impact on patients and my community. Financial support would allow me to focus more fully on my education, continue developing my scientific and clinical skills, and pursue opportunities that will prepare me for my future career. I hope to use my education to create an impact that extends beyond myself. As a woman pursuing a STEM and healthcare career, I want to encourage other women to believe that they belong in science and that their ideas and perspectives are valuable. I want to be an advocate for evidence-based healthcare, a compassionate provider for my patients, and an example to other women who are working toward ambitious goals. Ultimately, this scholarship would help me turn my curiosity and determination into a career dedicated to science, healthcare, and service. I am not pursuing education simply to earn another degree. I am pursuing it because I want the knowledge and skills to improve lives, empower patients, and contribute something meaningful to the future of healthcare.
    VNutrition and Wellness Nursing Scholarship
My nursing career will allow me to help people understand that nutrition is not simply about weight or appearance, but is an important part of preventing disease, supporting healing, and improving overall quality of life. I want to become a nurse practitioner and eventually open my own functional medicine clinic, where I can take a more comprehensive approach to healthcare. My goal is to help patients understand the connection between what they eat, how they feel, and their long-term health while providing guidance that is realistic, individualized, and supported by evidence. One of the most important steps I plan to take is education. Many people receive nutrition information from social media, advertisements, or conflicting sources online, which can make it difficult to know what is actually healthy. As a future healthcare provider, I want to help patients understand basic nutrition and learn how to make informed choices without feeling overwhelmed. I would encourage patients to focus on sustainable habits such as eating a variety of nutrient-dense foods, getting adequate protein and fiber, staying hydrated, and incorporating fruits and vegetables into their meals. Rather than promoting restrictive diets, I want to help patients develop habits they can realistically maintain throughout their lives. I also plan to make nutrition part of routine conversations about health. During patient visits, I would want to understand not only what someone eats, but also their lifestyle, access to food, cultural preferences, schedule, budget, and personal goals. These factors can have a major impact on someone's ability to make healthy choices. If a patient is struggling with nutrition, I would work with them to identify small, achievable changes rather than expecting them to completely change their lifestyle overnight. When appropriate, I would also collaborate with registered dietitians and other qualified professionals to ensure patients receive specialized nutritional support. My interest in nutrition is also connected to my passion for preventative healthcare. I believe healthcare should not only focus on treating illness after it develops, but also on helping people reduce their risk of developing preventable health problems. Nutrition can play an important role in supporting cardiovascular health, metabolic health, healthy aging, and overall well-being. I am particularly interested in applying this approach to women’s health and geriatric care, where individualized nutrition and lifestyle support can make a meaningful difference. Ultimately, I want my nursing career to help patients feel empowered rather than judged when it comes to food and health. I want to teach patients that healthier eating does not have to mean perfection. My approach would focus on education, realistic goals, regular follow-up, and helping each person understand what works for their individual needs. By making nutrition a consistent part of patient education and preventative care, I hope to help people build healthier habits that improve not only their physical health, but their confidence, independence, and quality of life.
    Women in STEM Scholarship
I chose to pursue STEM because I have always been driven by curiosity and a desire to understand how things work. Science gives me the opportunity to ask questions, find evidence-based answers, and use what I learn to make a difference in people’s lives. My academic journey has allowed me to explore biology, biotechnology, research, and healthcare, and each experience has strengthened my belief that STEM is where I belong. I am especially passionate about the connection between science and medicine because scientific discoveries can move beyond the laboratory and directly improve someone's quality of life. One of the experiences that has shaped my passion for STEM most has been working as a research assistant in a laboratory focused on drug discovery and antibiotic research. Being involved in research has taught me that scientific progress requires patience, resilience, and a willingness to learn from failure. Experiments do not always produce the results you expect, but each result provides information that can lead to a better question or a new approach. This experience showed me that I do not simply want to learn about science—I want to participate in it. I want to contribute to research and use scientific knowledge to solve real-world problems. My pursuit of nursing has given that passion an even clearer purpose. I want to become a nurse practitioner and eventually open my own functional medicine clinic, with a particular interest in women’s health and geriatric care. I am fascinated by the complexity of the human body and by the ways research can improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes. I want to bring scientific thinking into my future practice while also helping patients understand the evidence behind their healthcare decisions. My goal is to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and the people who need it most. As a woman in STEM, I want my impact to extend beyond my own career. I want to be an example to other women who may question whether they belong in science, research, or healthcare. I know that pursuing a STEM career requires confidence and perseverance, and I want other women to see that they do not have to fit a certain mold to succeed. I hope to encourage young women to ask questions, take up space in scientific conversations, pursue leadership opportunities, and trust their abilities. I believe women bring perspectives and experiences to STEM that are essential to innovation. My ambition is not simply to earn degrees or achieve a professional title. I want to use my education to create meaningful change. Whether I am contributing to research, caring for patients, advocating for women’s health, or mentoring another woman who is beginning her STEM journey, I want my work to have an impact. I hope to build a career where science and service come together, allowing me to improve healthcare while encouraging other women to pursue their own ambitions. I am choosing STEM because I want to understand, discover, and contribute. I am pursuing it because I believe knowledge has the power to change lives. As a woman in STEM, I hope to use my ambition not only to build a successful career, but to open doors for the women who come after me and leave the field stronger than I found it.
    Michael Rudometkin Memorial Scholarship
I believe selflessness means being willing to put someone else’s needs, comfort, or well-being before your own. It does not always mean doing something extraordinary. Often, selflessness is shown through small, consistent actions: giving someone your time, listening when they need support, helping when no one else is available, or speaking up for someone who cannot advocate for themselves. Throughout my life, I have tried to make serving others a priority, and my experiences in healthcare have strengthened that commitment. One of the most meaningful ways I have practiced selflessness is through my work as a CNA while attending nursing school. I have cared for older adults, including patients who need assistance with everyday activities and individuals experiencing memory loss. Many of these patients depend on caregivers for things that most people take for granted, such as getting to the bathroom, moving safely, getting dressed, or simply feeling comfortable and secure. I have learned that these moments require patience and compassion. Sometimes the most important thing I can do is slow down, listen, and give someone the time they need rather than rushing them through a task. I also try to advocate for consistent routines because I have seen how much familiarity can help older adults feel safe and comfortable. I have also learned to look beyond what is immediately required of me. If I notice that a patient is uncomfortable, confused, anxious, or having difficulty communicating what they need, I try to figure out how I can help. I pay attention to small changes in behavior and communicate my concerns to the appropriate members of the healthcare team. I believe selflessness in healthcare means remembering that every patient is someone's loved one and deserves to be treated with the same dignity and patience I would want for my own family. My family experiences have also shaped how I serve others. I have seen loved ones struggle with aging, health problems, and substance use, and those experiences have taught me how deeply illness can affect an entire family. They have made me more compassionate toward people who are struggling and less likely to judge someone based solely on their circumstances. Instead, I try to ask what support they need and how I can help. As I continue my nursing education, I want selflessness to remain at the center of my career. I hope to become a nurse practitioner and eventually work in women’s health, geriatric care, and functional medicine. No matter what position I hold, I want to remember that healthcare is ultimately about people. My goal is to use my education and skills to serve others, advocate for those who may not be able to advocate for themselves, and make difficult moments a little easier. To me, selflessness means choosing to care even when it is inconvenient, and I hope that will always be reflected in the way I live and practice.
    Science and Advocacy Scholarship
My passion for science began with curiosity. I have always wanted to understand why things happen, how the human body works, and how scientific discoveries can improve people’s lives. As I have continued my education, that curiosity has developed into a passion for biology, biotechnology, healthcare, and research. What fascinates me most about science is that there is always more to discover. Every answer creates another question, and that process of discovery continues to motivate me. My academic experiences have allowed me to explore science both inside and outside the classroom. One of the most meaningful experiences I have had has been working as a research assistant in a laboratory focused on drug discovery and antibiotic research. Working in a laboratory has given me a perspective on science that I could never gain from a textbook alone. I have experienced the patience, attention to detail, critical thinking, and persistence that scientific research requires. Not every experiment produces the result you expect, but even an unexpected result can provide valuable information. Research has taught me that science is not about immediately having the right answer; it is about asking good questions, testing ideas, learning from evidence, and continuing to pursue better answers. My interest in science has also shaped my decision to pursue nursing and eventually become a nurse practitioner. Healthcare allows me to see how scientific knowledge directly affects people's lives. I am particularly interested in women’s health, geriatric healthcare, preventative care, and functional medicine. I want to understand how research can improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and patient education. My goal is to eventually use my medical education to help patients understand their health and make informed decisions based on reliable evidence. I also believe that being passionate about science means advocating for it. Science cannot improve lives if people do not trust it, understand it, or have access to accurate information. As a future healthcare provider, I want to help bridge the gap between scientific research and patients. Medical information can be overwhelming, and misinformation can make it difficult for people to know what to believe. I want to communicate scientific information in a way that is understandable without sacrificing accuracy. I believe patients deserve to know why a treatment is recommended, what evidence supports it, and what questions they should ask about their care. My experiences have also taught me that defending science does not mean believing that science is perfect or that we always have every answer. One of the greatest strengths of science is its willingness to change when new evidence becomes available. Scientists question existing ideas, test them, identify limitations, and improve our understanding. I believe this process should be celebrated rather than viewed as weakness. What is at stake if science is not championed is more than scientific progress. Misinformation can influence healthcare decisions, public health, environmental choices, and how communities respond to emerging challenges. When evidence is ignored, real people can experience the consequences. I want to be part of the generation that protects curiosity, critical thinking, and evidence-based decision-making. The scientific advocate I hope to become is someone who combines curiosity with responsibility. Whether I am conducting research, caring for a patient, or eventually practicing as a nurse practitioner, I want science to remain at the center of how I understand the world and serve others. To me, advocating for science means asking questions, respecting evidence, communicating honestly, and helping others recognize the incredible ability of science to improve human life.

I am a compassionate, hardworking person who has always felt called to serve others. My family has played a major role in shaping who I am and the career I want to pursue. Growing up, I saw both the importance of caring for the people around you and the challenges that families can face when someone is struggling with their health or quality of life. Those experiences taught me the value of compassion, patience, responsibility, and being willing to step up when someone needs help. My experiences with my family have also influenced my interest in healthcare and service. I have seen how illness, aging, and substance use can affect not only an individual but an entire family. Losing people close to me has made me appreciate how important it is to have healthcare professionals who treat patients as people rather than simply as a diagnosis. It has also motivated me to become someone who can provide support during difficult moments. I want to be a first responder because I want to be there when people need help the most. First responders are often among the first people someone sees during an emergency, and I believe that responsibility requires both medical knowledge and genuine compassion. In a crisis, a patient may be scared, confused, or unable to advocate for themselves. I want to be the person who can remain calm, provide appropriate care, communicate clearly, and help that person feel safe. My experience working as a CNA while attending nursing school has strengthened this desire. Caring for patients has taught me that even small actions can have a significant impact. Helping someone move safely, listening to their concerns, recognizing when something is different from their normal behavior, or simply treating them with dignity can make a difficult situation easier. These experiences have helped me understand that being a healthcare professional is not only about having technical skills; it is also about being dependable and compassionate. I am pursuing my nursing education because I want to build the knowledge and skills necessary to serve others throughout my career. I hope to continue developing as a healthcare professional and eventually become a nurse practitioner. I am especially interested in caring for older adults, women, and vulnerable populations, and I want to use my education to advocate for people who may not always be able to advocate for themselves. Ultimately, I want to be a first responder because service is at the heart of the person I want to become. My family experiences have shown me how valuable compassionate healthcare can be, and my experiences as a CNA have shown me how rewarding it is to care for others. I want to take those lessons with me into my career and be someone my patients and their families can depend on when they need help most.

Sobriety and recovery have affected my life through watching people I love struggle with alcohol and smoking. Many of the older adults in my family experienced the long-term effects of these habits, and I have seen firsthand how substance use can impact not only a person’s physical health, but also their relationships, independence, and overall quality of life. For me, these experiences made the idea that “life begins with sobriety” deeply meaningful. I have seen how addiction can slowly take parts of a person’s life away, and sadly, it has even contributed to losing some of the people who were closest to me. Growing up and watching these struggles was difficult, but it also taught me an important lesson: addiction is not simply a matter of making better choices. It can become a powerful struggle that affects an entire family. It has helped me develop compassion for people who are trying to overcome substance use rather than judging them for where they are in their recovery. I have learned that people need support, understanding, education, and access to appropriate care in order to make meaningful changes in their lives. These experiences have influenced my decision to pursue nursing. I want to become a healthcare professional who understands that there is a person behind every diagnosis or health concern. When someone is struggling with addiction, I want to be someone who listens without judgment and helps them understand how their choices can affect their health and future. I also want to be able to support families who may be experiencing the effects of a loved one’s substance use, because I understand how difficult that experience can be. My experiences have also strengthened my interest in caring for older adults. Seeing the effects that alcohol and smoking had on members of my family has shown me how important prevention and early intervention can be, especially as people age. I want to use my education to help patients understand their health, recognize risks, and make informed decisions that can improve their quality of life. As I continue through nursing school, I hope to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to help people not only recover from illness, but also prevent health problems whenever possible. I want my education to give me the ability to turn some of the hardest experiences in my own life into something meaningful for others. I cannot change what happened to the people I have lost, but I can use what I learned from them to help someone else have a healthier future. To me, sobriety represents more than simply stopping a substance. It represents the possibility of reclaiming a life, rebuilding relationships, and having the opportunity to experience a healthier future. That belief will continue to shape the kind of nurse I hope to become.

One problem in healthcare that I refuse to accept as inevitable is the lack of individualized, consistent, and compassionate care that many older adults experience, particularly those living with dementia or other memory-related conditions. Through my experience working as a CNA while pursuing my nursing education, I have had the opportunity to care for older adults firsthand. These experiences have shown me that quality care is about much more than completing tasks or meeting basic physical needs. Patients deserve to feel safe, respected, understood, and cared for as individuals. One of the biggest concerns I have noticed is the lack of consistency in routines and communication. For a person experiencing memory loss or dementia, changes in caregivers, schedules, environments, and expectations can be confusing and distressing. I have seen how something as simple as maintaining a familiar routine can make a patient feel more comfortable and secure. Unfortunately, I have also seen situations where patients’ individual preferences, routines, and emotional needs can become secondary to simply getting through the day. Rather than accepting this as just the way geriatric care works, I have tried to advocate for the patients I care for. As a CNA, I have learned to pay attention to the small details that may not always be documented in a care plan. I notice what makes a patient comfortable, what routines they respond well to, how they communicate their needs, and what helps them feel less anxious or confused. I do my best to communicate these observations to the healthcare team and advocate for consistency whenever possible. Even when I cannot change an entire system, I can make sure that the individual patient in front of me is treated with dignity and patience. These experiences have changed the way I think about the future of healthcare. I believe geriatric and memory care should move toward a more individualized model where consistency, familiarity, and emotional well-being are considered essential parts of healthcare rather than optional extras. I would like to see care teams place greater emphasis on personalized routines, stronger communication between caregivers, and understanding each patient’s history and preferences. As I continue my nursing education and eventually pursue my goal of becoming a nurse practitioner, I want these experiences to shape the provider I become. My long-term goal is to create healthcare environments where older adults are not defined by their diagnosis or age, but recognized as individuals with stories, preferences, relationships, and dignity. I refuse to believe that confusion, loneliness, or feeling overlooked has to be an inevitable part of aging or memory loss. The future I hope to create is one where compassionate care is not something patients have to hope for—it is something they can expect. I want to continue advocating for older adults and use my career to help make geriatric and memory care more consistent, personal, and human.

I am pursuing a career in nursing because I want to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives through compassionate, personalized healthcare. I have always been drawn to careers where I can serve others, build meaningful relationships, and make a positive difference during some of the most important and vulnerable moments in a person’s life. My long-term goal is to become a nurse practitioner and eventually open my own functional medicine clinic, where I can provide individualized care that focuses on the whole person rather than simply treating symptoms. As I continue my education and gain experience in healthcare, I am especially interested in exploring women’s health and geriatric healthcare. Women’s health interests me because I believe women deserve to have their concerns taken seriously and receive comprehensive care throughout every stage of their lives. I am interested in learning more about preventative care, hormonal health, reproductive health, nutrition, and the many factors that contribute to a woman’s overall well-being. I am also passionate about caring for older adults. Geriatric healthcare gives me the opportunity to help people maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life while supporting both them and their families. My ultimate goal is to combine my nursing education, future nurse practitioner training, and interest in functional medicine to create a healthcare practice of my own. I envision opening a clinic where patients feel comfortable sharing their concerns and where they are encouraged to be active participants in their healthcare. I want to focus on preventative care and evidence-based approaches while considering lifestyle, nutrition, environment, and other factors that may contribute to a person’s health. I hope my future practice can provide patients with not only treatment, but also education and the confidence to better understand and advocate for their own health. What inspires me to keep moving forward is the opportunity to have a lasting impact on another person’s life. Healthcare can be overwhelming and frightening, and sometimes having someone who listens, shows compassion, and makes you feel understood can make an incredible difference. I want to be that person for my patients. I want my patients to remember me as someone who genuinely cared about them and never made them feel like just another number. I know reaching my goals will require years of education, hard work, and continued growth, but I am motivated by the purpose behind that work. Every step I take toward becoming a nurse and eventually a nurse practitioner brings me closer to being able to serve others in the way I envision. I hope to use my medical career to make healthcare more compassionate, preventative, and personalized while positively impacting individuals, families, and my community. Ultimately, I want my career to be measured not only by the credentials I earn, but by the lives I am able to improve.

My career goal is to become a nurse practitioner specializing in functional and holistic medicine, with a strong focus on helping patients understand and address the underlying causes of their health concerns rather than simply treating symptoms. I am passionate about a patient-centered approach to healthcare that considers the whole person, including nutrition, lifestyle, mental and emotional well-being, environment, and preventative care. I want to use my nursing education and future advanced practice training to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care. As I continue my education and progress toward becoming a nurse practitioner, I want to explore different areas of healthcare to determine where I can make the greatest impact. Two areas that particularly interest me are women’s health and geriatric healthcare. I am interested in women’s health because women often experience complex health concerns that can be overlooked or inadequately addressed. I would like to learn more about hormonal health, reproductive health, preventative care, nutrition, and other factors that influence women throughout different stages of life. I am also interested in geriatric healthcare because I value the opportunity to support older adults and improve their quality of life as they age. I want to better understand preventative care, chronic disease management, healthy aging, and ways to help older adults maintain their independence and overall well-being. Ultimately, my long-term goal is to become a nurse practitioner and open my own functional medicine clinic. I envision creating a welcoming environment where patients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their healthcare decisions. My clinic would focus on preventative and individualized care while incorporating functional medicine principles with conventional, evidence-based healthcare. I would especially like to serve women and older adults while continuing to expand my knowledge of other areas that may benefit from an integrative approach. I understand that achieving this goal will require dedication, continued education, clinical experience, and a willingness to learn throughout my career. I am excited to build a strong foundation through nursing and eventually pursue advanced practice education. My goal is not simply to become a healthcare provider, but to become a compassionate and knowledgeable practitioner who empowers patients to take an active role in their health. I hope to build a career that combines nursing, advanced practice, functional medicine, women’s health, and geriatric care while ultimately allowing me to provide meaningful, individualized care through my own practice.

    Women in STEM Scholarship
As a woman pursuing a career in healthcare, I see myself as part of a growing community of leaders in STEM who are using knowledge and curiosity to change lives. For me, healthcare administration and sonography represent more than a profession; they represent a way to empower women, serve communities, and contribute to science and medicine in meaningful ways. This scholarship’s mission aligns closely with my own goals of advancing women’s health through both direct patient care and systemic improvements in healthcare delivery. Knowledge has always been a source of empowerment for me. Through my studies and clinical training, I have gained not only technical skills but also a deeper understanding of how healthcare functions both at the patient level and the administrative level. As a future sonographer, I will use that knowledge to provide women with clear, accurate information about their health, whether during a prenatal ultrasound or a diagnostic exam. Knowledge is power, and in women’s health, it can mean reassurance during uncertain times or early detection of a condition that changes a patient’s outcome. As a healthcare administrator, I plan to apply knowledge in a different but equally impactful way—by creating systems and processes that make care more accessible, efficient, and compassionate. Curiosity is what drives me to grow and innovate. I am curious not only about the science behind diagnostic imaging but also about the bigger picture—how healthcare systems can improve, how policies affect patients, and how faith-based initiatives can better support women holistically. This curiosity pushes me to ask questions, challenge barriers, and search for solutions that address the unique needs of women in healthcare. It is this drive that motivates me to bridge clinical care and leadership, combining the hands-on work of sonography with the strategic oversight of administration. Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to the STEM field by using my dual career path to advance women’s health. I want to be part of a future where women have greater access to compassionate, high-quality care that respects not only their physical needs but also their emotional and spiritual well-being. By sharing knowledge, fostering curiosity, and leading with integrity, I hope to build a career that inspires others and strengthens the role of women in healthcare and STEM. This scholarship would not only support my education but also connect me with a community of women who share my passion for making a difference. Together, I believe we can create a future where women are not just participants in STEM but leaders, innovators, and advocates who transform the world.
A Man Helping Women Helping Women Scholarship
I have always believed that healthcare is more than just an industry; it is a calling to serve others in ways that can transform lives. My decision to pursue a career in both healthcare administration and sonography reflects my desire to impact women’s health on multiple levels. Sonography provides a direct connection with patients, allowing me to play an important role in diagnosing and supporting women throughout their healthcare journeys, particularly during pregnancy or when facing sensitive gynecological concerns. At the same time, healthcare administration allows me to address challenges within the broader healthcare system by improving access, streamlining processes, and ensuring that facilities are equipped to provide high-quality, patient-centered care. Together, these two career paths allow me to integrate clinical service with leadership in ways that I believe can make a meaningful difference. My passion is especially centered on women’s health in faith-based settings. Women often face unique barriers to care, whether due to financial constraints, lack of access, or cultural and personal beliefs. I feel called to create spaces where women feel supported physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Faith-based care environments provide a foundation for this kind of holistic healing, acknowledging the whole person rather than focusing only on the medical condition. I envision my career as one that not only provides vital diagnostic services through sonography but also advocates for programs and policies that strengthen women’s healthcare, especially in underserved or vulnerable populations. As a sonographer, I will have the opportunity to walk alongside women during some of the most significant moments in their lives, from the joy of seeing a first ultrasound to the challenges of navigating high-risk pregnancies. These moments require not only technical expertise but also compassion, patience, and empathy. I want to be a provider who listens, reassures, and encourages, helping women feel seen and valued. In administration, I plan to take those same values and apply them on a larger scale by working to improve efficiency, reduce barriers to care, and ensure that healthcare systems honor both quality and dignity. Ultimately, my faith motivates me to pursue healthcare not only as a career but as a mission of service. I believe that through integrity, compassion, and leadership, I can contribute to a healthcare environment that uplifts women, empowers communities, and honors the sacredness of life. By bridging the hands-on care of sonography with the leadership of administration, I hope to leave a lasting positive impact on women’s health and the healthcare field as a whole.

And I work for Dr. Eric Nybos research lab gaining valuable skills and knowledge for my future career, and as of now we are working on many projects pertaining to the world of pharmacy and its improvment. As a woman in STEM I want to inspire other women that this is a career path we can succeed in and make an impact. I have been asked many times why I want to pursue such a career and the answer is simple, I want to be important and make a lasting change that positively impacts the world. As the world is constantly changing there are things that will never go away such as disease, and cruel people. I feel with my career I aspire to have that I can help manage and create a safer world for future generations. VonDerek Casteel Being There Counts Scholarship will help me be able to afford the education and experiences needed to help me become the researcher and investigator that this world needs more of. I aspire and dream of positive change for this world and the future generations, and I hope to do that by investigating and researching some of the world's larger problems pertaining to the forensic and medical fields. I want to leave a lasting impression on the STEM field that inspires others to reach for the stars and understand failure is a part of the process, and you won’t be correct all of the time and that mistakes are welcomed and we shouldn’t be afraid of failure. The tools and knowledge I will be gaining throughout my next few years of education will be imperative to the success and advancement of future generations. I believe the effort and knowledge I put in and learn today will be the difference of tomorrow. Being a forensic scientist and a researcher is my career passion, but at the root it is a career that helps me help others and create the positive change the world needs. As I am fully funding school by myself I appreciate the opportunity to help cover some of the costs of my education.

I am pursuing a college degree to become a forensic medical examiner to help people figure out why they lost their friend, loved one, or just someone in their life. I lost my great aunt Suzie at the age of 12. She was my person I talked to her all of the time and she was just the light of my life. After her death, I was in a bad place crying every night just trying to figure out why she left me. But I lost her to cancer and diabetes something I couldn't control and this has geared what I want to do in my life. I want to do research and study cancer and become a forensic medical examiner. I would love to someday open my own research center to hopefully find a cure for cancer. I want to achieve this for not only to have peace with myself but also to help other people and their families to keep the light of their life for longer. My aunt Suzie wasn't the first nor last person in my family or the world to be lost to cancer or a disease we can't yet control or find a cure to. But I want to help be part of the future generations of people who are finding cures and giving people the chance they need to survive and live a healthy life with their loved ones. And I have started dipping my toes into research and have started working in a lab to help me gain critical knowledge and on the job experiences. Not only has my aunt's death caused me to realize what I want to do with my life but it has also shown me that I need to create a support system for myself and take chances because for college and I am funding my own college tuition. Despite the challenges ahead, including the financial burden of financing my own education, I'm determined to pursue my dreams. Every step I take is fueled by the memory of Suzie and the desire to honor her legacy by making a positive impact in the world. Receiving this scholarship would be a tremendous help in furthering my education and realizing my goals. With your support, I can continue to pursue my passion for medical research and work towards a future where diseases like cancer are no longer a source of heartache and loss.

I personally do believe there is a creator and one god that created everything. I believe this for many reasons one being I used to fight with my parents about playing college volleyball, I had played for thirteen years I was burnt out and exhausted. I would pray and pray that some way some how my parents would see this from my point of view and let me quit the sport. My parents didn't, but even though I was committed and signed to play at Alderson Broaddus University two weeks before I was supposed to move in the school shut down due to financial reasons. And even though I had other opportunities to play for the first time in my life my parents let me choose. And I thank God for that opportunity every single day that he came into my life and guided me away from the sport so I can do other amazing things. I have also seen god do wonders in other lives for example some of my closest friends never used to be religious and I had the urge to talk to them about the bible and share what god had done for me in this life and slowly the more I talked over a long period of time I saw my friends become more curious. And one day my friend asked if she could go to church with me and mind you this girl never was religious and it just shocked me because she used to hate people who would share the world of God and just to see how God came into her life and started to change her heart just gave me more reason to believe in him. But also on top of all the ways I have seen god move in my life one thing that I will always lean on is the earth has perfect conditions for us, if gravity was slightly higher or lower we would die, if we were a little closer or further from the sun we would die. And I do not believe that happens on accident. I believe there was evolution but God guided evolution and he created life. And others will say well it's just a miracle, the gravity being perfect is a miracle but the exact distance we are from the sun, and correct gases in the air for us to breath is divine intervention and just working in research I can see how often you have to fail to get something right and if God wasn't around we wouldn't be due to the amount of miracles it would take to sustain life.

But to achieve my goal I need 8-10 years of school and that's hard to come up with the money for because that's multiple degrees and alone I can't come up with the money. I want this college degree so someday I can look back and say I made the right choice in my career path and so I can be able to not only make my aunt proud of me but also to be helping thousands of people. And this scholarship would help propel me in the right direction in my life and for my future, and I hope you pick me as the winner of this scholarship.

I would say my teacher Mrs.Crowell has helped me to be the best version of myself especially academically. I first had Mrs.Crowell in 10th grade which was 2021 so covid was still a huge thing and I had no motivation to work hard or do anything in school. To me, it was just a joke. But Mrs. Crowell made class fun, even online she held me accountable and did not make it easy for anyone to not put the work in. When my school South Lyon High School started allowing students back in I was the only one who showed. Because she had motivated me to not let this sickness take control of my life. And that meant a lot because she was pregnant at the time. She showed up every day and taught and laughed and helped us learn even though we weren't in the best situation. She inspired me to take my first AP class, AP lang, and after I did well in that class I kept taking college classes and didn't have to pay a dime. Mrs. Crowell inspired me to take advantage of all the chances provided to me, and I live by that every single day. I have her again this year my senior year, and South Lyon High School and every day we look back on that year and laugh but also learn from what happened. This year Mrs. Crowell reminds me and teaches all the other students in her class to not only take chances and work hard but to not let something control your life so much that you stop living. That is just something she had to go through with covid the years, she was pregnant and showed up every day because she wanted to teach. She put herself and her child at risk to teach us and I am thankful for her every single day. This past year she was pregnant again and showing up and inspiring us every day even with the threat of COVID just around the corner. But with what I learned from. Mrs. Crowell was one of the most inspiring women I have ever met. She not only inspired me to continue my education but she was the first English teacher ever to tell me I could do better and help me do that. She will always be the women I look back on to thank for my education.
Sean Carroll's Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship
As a freshman in college embarking on my journey in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), the pursuit of understanding the universe has captured my imagination and holds a special place in my academic aspirations. Identifying the mysteries of our cosmos transcends cultures, genders, and boundaries, making it an incredibly compelling mission for someone just starting out in academics. As a young woman in STEM, I'm excited to contribute to this endeavor and share some ideas and concepts that have already started to shape my perspective. Curiosity and Exploration: The driving force behind my interest in the universe's nature is an insatiable curiosity. In my opinion, it's a natural trait shared by all humans, but it's especially prevalent among college freshmen who are just beginning to explore the possibilities of higher education. As a freshman in STEM, I've already encountered countless questions and mysteries that ignite my curiosity and drive me to learn more, particularly about the cosmos. Diverse Perspectives: The need for diverse perspectives in STEM is something I've come to appreciate as I've met students from various backgrounds and experiences in college. These diverse viewpoints can be incredibly valuable in tackling complex scientific problems. My belief as a woman in STEM is the importance of embracing and promoting diversity. I've already had the opportunity to engage in conversations with peers from different backgrounds, and it's clear that our diverse perspectives can lead to fresh ideas and innovative solutions. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: College life has exposed me to the interconnected nature of STEM disciplines. Complex problems often require collaboration among scientists from different fields to solve, and the boundaries between fields are often porous. I'm excited about the prospect of working across disciplinary lines to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the universe. This interdisciplinary approach is something I'm eager to explore during my college years. Education and Outreach: The importance of education and outreach in STEM has become evident as I've started my college education. I've already had the opportunity to attend seminars, workshops, and discussions that emphasize the importance of fostering the next generation of scientists. This is an exciting opportunity for me to contribute to educational outreach efforts, especially those aimed at inspiring young women to explore the mysteries of the universe. College is a time when I can actively engage in such initiatives and make a difference in my community. Technology and Innovation: College is a time of discovery and learning, and one area where I see immense potential for personal growth is technological innovation. As a STEM enthusiast, I am eager to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technology. Technology plays a significant role in advancing our understanding of the universe, and I hope to be at the forefront of technological advancements during my college years.
    McClendon Leadership Award
Leadership is a concept that holds profound significance to me, particularly as a woman in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). It is not just a role or a skill; rather, it embodies a set of values, principles, and a commitment to making a difference. As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, leadership takes on a unique meaning, shaped by the desire to challenge stereotypes and inspire the next generation of women in STEM. Leadership, to me, represents the ability to inspire and guide others towards a common goal. In STEM, leadership means driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and contributing to the betterment of society. I see it as a responsibility to use my knowledge and skills to lead by example, demonstrating that gender should never be a barrier to achievement. By taking the lead, I hope to encourage more women to pursue STEM careers and break down the barriers that have existed for far too long. Furthermore, leadership is about empowerment. It involves lifting others up, recognizing their potential, and providing growth opportunities. As a woman in STEM, I am keenly aware of the need for female representation in leadership positions. When women lead, they bring unique perspectives, empathy, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, which can lead to more equitable outcomes in research and industry. By embracing leadership, I aim to be a role model and mentor to aspiring women in STEM, helping them overcome challenges and excel in their chosen fields. Leadership in STEM is also about driving change and progress. The world is facing complex challenges, from climate change to healthcare disparities, and STEM professionals must step up to find solutions. As a woman, I believe that my leadership style can offer a fresh approach to problem-solving, emphasizing collaboration and empathy, which are essential in addressing these critical issues. Moreover, leadership entails continuous learning and adaptability. STEM is an ever-evolving field, and effective leaders must be open to new ideas, embrace change, and lead their teams through uncharted territories. Being a woman in STEM has taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability, as I've had to navigate a field where I may be outnumbered but am no less capable. This resilience has become a defining aspect of my leadership philosophy, as I aim to inspire others to persevere in the face of adversity. In conclusion, leadership is vital to me as a woman in STEM because it embodies the principles of empowerment, innovation, change, and adaptability. I see it as a means to challenge the status quo, break down gender barriers, and inspire the next generation of women in STEM. Through leadership, I hope to make a positive impact in my field, fostering a more inclusive and diverse STEM community that can address the world's most pressing challenges. Leadership, to me, is not just a role; it is a commitment to making a difference, both for myself and for the advancement of women in STEM.
    Mental Health Importance Scholarship
Mental health has always been an issue for me and trying to keep a positive mind set. An example of this is when I was playing my 17s club volleyball year and I decided to play for the old Michigan State coach Chuck Erbe. He mentally and verbally abused us day in and day out of practice and after awhile my beliefs changed. I didn't and wouldn't believe god would let me and let alone my teammates go through this, it affected every relationship I had in and out of volleyball. It made me a terrible person I was always tired and mentally drained and it started to absorb my life. After being done with my season I did some serious mental health work shopping to get me back on my feet and back to where I needed to be again. For months I would have nightmares of this man verbally abusing me and my teammates and now I realize that I am stronger for going through this. But I needed to work on myself. I did not deserve what happened to me and my teammates didn't deserve it either but we are stronger people now. We now how to stand up for ourselves, and respect ourselves. Mental health and my mental state has changed over the years and with that my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations have changed. While I have not worked for a mental health organization I have done my research and have dug deep in exploring mental health and how my words and actions can affect other people. I have helped so many people by just listening when nobody else would, for example my high school teammates I listen to their worries and issues and try to help them come to a positive solution whether that be with themselves or with our coach. My experiences with mental health changed the way I talked to people and understood the world for a long time. And it hurts to realize there are people out there that want to take your light away. But now after this experience, I take every day one step at a time building back the mental wellness I once had. I work out, eat health, manifest positive thoughts, and overall keep tabs on myself and my progress, And how I am doing. I respect my own mental health and others as well and that's how it should be.

I know I should have reached out sooner. Going through this experience has brought me to the reality that people are not going to be nice and that they will fight tooth and nail even if it negatively affects you. I realized I need to be the one who shows up for me and that has helped me in my relationships by knowing when I should step back from people, and my career asperations knowing medical school is tooth and nail and it is you agaisnt the world.

    Nintendo Super Fan Scholarship
When I was younger me and my brother used to play super smash bros. And we would play for hours and always get stuck on the boss levels and I would get so mad at my little brother because he kept dying. After all, he did not know the buttons. I remember yelling for my dad (who is a certified Super Smash Bros player his words, not mine) because we would be on our fourth or fifth attempt and we would just keep failing. And of course, as any dad would do he had to flex his awesome gaming skills on his ten-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son. And then after he beat the boss level he would just sit there and play for us and when we would ask for the game back he would say "No you are just going to lose." And even though it sounds like my dad was being a total butthead those are some of my fondest memories. As I go through college I sit back and break out my Nintendo Switch and still, I call my dad to complain that I can not beat the boss level he just laughs at me and says I am old enough to do it myself now. Which is a total lie on his part.

I feel my generation is going to be left picking up the pieces of the polluting generations before us. I find it hard to believe we vote people into government who do not care about these issues because they will not be around long enough to see the consequences of their actions. It frustrates me that we (the United States) have so many problems that are being overlooked by these older generations, and when younger generations run for government they do address these issues but people are not voting. Why aren't we voting? Mostly because of a lack of education on the matter but that comes down to our public education system (also under the control of older generations) that does not teach us how to register to vote, we are not taught how to look at a candidate and say ok this is their party these are their opinions do I like them or not? And it just feels like my generation (Gen Z) is going to finally get into office when we are 75 and then the world is going to keep going through this vicious cycle. I hope one day we can get people from every generation in government so we can ger a wide array of opinions that would benefit the future of this earth.

    “The Office” Obsessed! Fan Scholarship
The character I resonate most with is Dwight. Dwight is witty, smart and just overall hilarious. I find myself to be somewhat of a joker, but also deep down we see even though Jim, Pam, and everyone else are his work colleagues and he does care. And that is how I also feel I display my affection towards friends. I am not very direct, but I do care and I will be there when my friends need me the most. And even though I don't dress in terrible fashion like fashion does I do typically wear the same types of clothes each day. I feel "The Office" has shaped my sense of humor by making everything funny. And people need to laugh, we need to appreciate even the dumb jokes and not take anything for granted. But in my workplace, I have created relationships and kept the work light-hearted and fun. But another reason I related to Dwight is I need to get work done and I get very upset if things are not done on time. But unlike Dwight, I would think the jello stapler was funny and I would just say thanks for lunch! And always remember, IDENTITY THEFT IS NOT A JOKE JIM!

I would have everyone read the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco. This series introduces you to forensic science with the lead character being Audrey Rose. She is her uncle's apprentice for his lab studies and this leads them to fun new cases all around the world. Not only that but there is also some romance between Audrey Rose and her Uncle's other apprentice Thomas Cresswell. The book series is filled with twists and turns and some serious cliffhangers. But this book also has taught me some serious lessons for me for example working hard to get what you want is a must. This book teaches that by showing Audrey Rose a woman in the late 1800's trying to aspire in the forensic field, and that is not an easy task. The book shows her ups and downs throughout trying to become the forensic medical examiner she wants to become. I enjoyed this series and think many others will as well because it is very tasteful not have too much romance, not too gruesome from the forensic side of things. The book has a very balanced plot and is intriguing even to those who don't like to read. Overall I would say this book is a great read for all ages, and even for people who don't like crime or romance, I believe you would still really enjoy this book. Not only this book but all Kerri Maniscalco books are great and everyone should really check her out.

I want to see a change within people, I want to see less hate in everyone's heart. We shouldn't hate on someone of a different race, culture, sexual orientation, or for what they want to do. As an LQBTQ+ member that hasn't truthfully come out to everyone because of the fear of rejection and judgment, I would get I want to feel safe and not like I would get hate. And this is the situation for many people these days, we don't want to speak our minds, or be who we truly want to be because of the situation we find ourselves around. Which is hate. Hate has always been around and will never entirely go away, but we can't try and encourage others to have less hate in their hearts and see each other for who we truly are without fear of judgment. I pray to whoever is up there that they will guide us into the future without hate and that they will show us the best way. I want to be my true and honest self and I am tired of hearing how someone will hate another person just because of their race, culture, sexual orientation, or what they want to do. It's unfair in 2022 as a white pansexual woman I am afraid, I am afraid of the people around me and what they will do, but I am also afraid of what my government will do. I should not have to censor myself because someone does not like the way I dress, the way I act, or the way I speak or act. It is nobody else's business but my own. And going into college out of state and alone next year in West Virginia I am afraid, I am afraid of the hateful acts people will try to commit against me if I come out to people in college. I believe this scholarship would not online help me put myself through college but also finally have the courage to come out to my family and the remainder of my friends who don't know already. I hope someday the world can become a better place so that when I have kids and raise them I don't have to have them worrying about the issues I have to worry about now. I want to see a change within people, I want to see less hate in everyone's heart.

I will be pursuing Biology to one day become a forensic medical examiner. I believe science is the main pillar of our society, it's what keeps us healthy, monitors our health, cures illness, and alleviates aches and pains. And the ability to improve our life is provided to us by these sciences biology, physiology, kinesiology and rehabilitation sciences, chemistry, pharmacology and drug development microbiology, pathology, epidemiology, etc. Genetics, biomedical engineering and psychology, public health. And because I believe science is a main pillar of society I want to be a part of it. I want to help find cures to cancer and cures to rare diseases, but I can't do it alone I need other people in the workplace with me to help find these cures. And that is why diversity is important to not only me and my workplace but where ever. Multiple great minds working together for the greater good rather than judging each on gender, skin color, sexual orientation would make a much better society for all. I strongly believe we would still be living like cave people without science and diversity. And I want to be a part of the future that creates a greater ability to prevent and cure diseases with many other great minds without a care in the world if my co-workers are white, black, gay, straight, women or men. And becoming a forensic medical examiner I could help predict and prevent disease but also be able to do my true passion of studying ovarian cancer and helping women find a cure. I have lost so many women in my life due to ovarian cancer and I have a high percentage of getting cancer myself. And I want to be part of the group of people who helps prevent this cancer and extend the lives of so many. But this degree and the things I would need to become a forensic medical examiner cost a lot of money and I have to fund all of my college expenses all by myself. And with this scholarship, I would be able to start my journey and have the ability to make this world a better place not only with my mind but many others and hopefully someday I will be able to give back to the student trying to get a degree in STEM as you guys are now. I appreciate this chance to help fund my future.

I would say my teacher Mrs.Crowell has helped me to be the best version of myself especially academically. I first had Mrs.Crowell in 10th grade which was 2021 so covid was still a huge thing and I had no motivation to work hard or do anything in school. To me it was just a joke. And she showed up every day and taught and laughed and helped us learn even though we weren't in the best situation. She inspired me to take my first AP class, AP lang, and after I did well in that class I kept taking college classes and didn't have to pay a dime. Mrs. Crowell inspired me to take advantage of all chances provided to me, and I live by that every single day. I have her again this year my senior year, and South Lyon High School and everyday we look back on that year and laugh but also learn from what happened. This year Mrs. Crowell reminds me and teaches all the other student's in her class to not only take chances and work hard but to not let something control you life so much that you stop living. And that is just something she had to go through will covid years, she was pregnant and showed up every day because she wanted to teach. She put herself and her child at risk to teach us and I am thankful for her every single day. This year she is pregnant again and showing up and inspiring us each and every day even with the threat of covid just around the corner. But with what I learned from Mrs.Crowell I am applying right now I am taking this chance to write to you who ever is reading this. And asking will you help me? I have to fund my bachelors degree in biology alone and I have to fund medical school alone. And I am taking this chance and reaching out because I need to take chances.

I am pursing a college degree to become a forensic medical examiner to help people figure out why they lost their friend, loved one, or just someone in their life. I lost my great aunt Suzie at the age of 12. She was my person I talked to her all of the time and she was just the light of my life. After her death I was in a bad place crying every night just trying to figure out why she left me. But I lost her to cancer and diabetes something I couldn't control and this has geared what I want to do in my life. I want to do research and study cancer and become a forensic medical examiner. I would love to some day open my own research center to hopefully find a cure to cancer. I want to achieve this for not online to have peace with myself but also to help other people and their family to keep the light of their life for longer. My aunt Suzie wasn't the first nor last person in my family or the world to be lost to cancer or a disease we can't yet control or find a cure too. But I want to help be part of the future generations of people who are finding cures and giving people the chance they need to survive and live a health life with their loved ones. Not only has my aunts death caused me to realize what I want to do with my life but it has also showed me that I need to create a support system for myself and take chances because I am leaving and going out of state for college and I am funding my own college tuition. And this scholarship would really help propel me in the right direction in my life and for my future, and I hope you pick me for the winner of this scholarship.

    Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
Mental health has always been an issue for me and trying to keep a positive mind set. An example of this is when I was playing my 17s club volleyball year and I decided to play for the old Michigan State coach Chuck Erbe. He mentally and verbally abused us day in and day out of practice and after awhile my beliefs changed. I didn't and wouldn't believe god would let me and let alone my teammates go through this, it affected every relationship I had in and out of volleyball. It made me a terrible person I was always tired and mentally drained and it started to absorb my life. It was hard to go through every day thinking that even if there was something or someone out there that they would let us as a team go through thus. Before this I wanted to be a lawyer but after workshopping with myself I have realized I want to be a forensic medical examiner and I am so happy to be pursing such a career. But now after this experience I take every day one step at a time building back the mental wellness I once had. I work out, eat health, manifest positive thoughts, and overall keep tabs on myself and my progress, And how I am doing. I respect my own mental health and others as well and that's how it should be. Because sadly just over one thing you can change someone day or life in a negative way and we need to be aware of such thing. I am tired of being mentally drained in my life!

You don't win a lot. You can apply to thousands of scholarships and only win once. It is not a 100% chance of a win, and that's hard I have written hundreds of essays and I have yet to win a penny. And I am honestly upset with it but I write and write to just have a slim chance at being able to truly afford college. I need a bachelors degree in biology, and I need to go to medical school to get my dream job. And it's going to be hard and it's probably gonna suck sometimes but I would love the idea even of just affording it. I have also learned you need to be personably, someone needs to relate to you or your struggle to basically give you money to hopefully do well in this world. But the main part is you just have to put the effort in. It's hard. It is time consuming. And most of all it is not fun. But it gives you the chance to not have to be in debt as long. And that's what I want, I don't want to live in debt, I want to be able to afford a vacation with my family, I don't want to have to make major budge cuts to afford Christmas presents for my kids because I have student loan debt still. Scholarships provide you the chance to be financially free. And that's what I want, I want to work hard earn money but also I still want to be able to live life. And I mean truly live I don't want to be stuck in a constant 9-5 drag my whole life. I want to retire early and live. But that include you. The reader I have learned a lot about scholarships and how to lose. And hope you are able to help me make my life better so I can be financially free. So hopefully some day I can give this chance to another group of kids just trying to make it in this world. The world is full of debt, sadness, and poverty and I don't want to end up like that. But I also want to help others some day not end up like that either. It is not easy and I appreciate the time, effort and money it takes to put this all together and hopefully I can become a first time winner.

College is so exciting to me because I get to play a college sport and I get to make friends for life. To me clean living means eating healthy and making good choices for myself. And I choose to do this to preform the best in life and in school. Healthy eating has never been easy for me or for my family, I enjoy my sweets to much and I am not a fan of the leafy greens or any other veggies. But recently I have started my "healthy life era" and I have started to make healthier eating choices. But I believe eating healthy is important because It protects you against many chronic noncommunicable diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Eating heathy also makes sure you maintain healthy skin, heathy teeth, and healthy eyes. Eating healthy does so many great things not only adults but also for children. Some other examples of what eating healthy does for you are may help you live longer always a plus, supports muscles, boosts immunity no more colds a flu! Strengthens bones, supports healthy pregnancies and breastfeeding which helps mom and baby. Helps the digestive system function, and also helps achieve and maintain a healthy weight which keeps you body happy and healthy. But not only when I eating healthy do I notice the physical things it is doing for me I also notice what eating healthy does for my mental health. When you stick to a diet of healthy food, you're setting yourself up for fewer mood fluctuations and personally being less moody helps everyone around me, also overall happier outlook and an improved ability to focus so eating healthy can also help you in school to focus and perform better on test day! And eating healthy has improved my anxiety and depression. But also as a high level athlete who is committed to play in college I need to be fueling my body with all the right things to keep me top level. And eating healthy has improved my speed on the court, but also has given me energy to play longer and work harder. But as a student athlete for high school and soon to be college I need to be able to afford healthy options for myself, and I think thats why most of our country has a hard time eating heathy foods now. I incorporate clean living every day by not only eating healthy but also making good choices. I personally have to fund my own college and that means also getting my own food, I would love to continue this journey I am on with the help of this scholarship. The money I would be getting would go towards healthy grocery's and my meal plan for college. I hope you pick me for this scholarship so I can continue to work on this journey.

And this scholarship would really help propel me in the right direction in my life and for my future, and I hope you pick me for the winner of this scholarship.

And eating healthy has improved my anxiety and depression.
    Healthy Eating Scholarship
Learner Higher Education Scholarship
And this scholarship would really help propel me in the right direction in my life and for my future, and I hope you pick me for the winner of this scholarship.

I want to see a change within people, I want to see less hate in everyones heart. We shouldn't hate on someone of a different race, culture, sexual orientation, or for what they want to do. As an LQBTQ+ member that hasn't truthfully come out to everyone because of the fear of rejection and judgement I would get I want to feel safe and not like I would get hate. And this is the situation for many people these days, we don't want to speak our mind, or be who we truly want to be because of the situation we find ourselves around. Which is hate. Hate has always been around and will never entirely go away, but we cant try and encourage others to have less hate in their hearts and see each other for who we truly are without fear of judgement. I pray to whoever is up there that they will guide us into the future without hate and that they will show us the best way. I want to be my true and honest self and I am tired of hearing how someone will hate another person just because of their race, culture, sexual orientation, or for what they want to do. It's unfair in 2022 as a white pansexual women I am afraid, I am afraid of the people around me and what they will do, but I am also afraid of what my government will do. I should not have to censor myself because someone does not like the way I dress, the way I act, the way I speak or act. I want to see a change within people, I want to see less hate in everyones heart.
    Seeley Swan Pharmacy STEM Scholarship
I will be pursing Biology to one day become a forensic medical examiner. I believe science is a main pillar for our society, it's what keeps us healthy, monitors our health, cures illness, alleviates aches and pains. And the ability to improve our life is provided to us by these sciences biology, physiology, kinesiology and rehabilitation sciences, chemistry, pharmacology and drug development microbiology, pathology, epidemiology, etc. Genetics, biomedical engineering and psychology, public health. But not only does science do great things for us science does amazing things for the world around us. From agricultural science and engineering, plant breeding and genetics ,seed technology and plant health soil science and irrigation crop protection and weed science, biodiversity and conservation, animal science , and environmental science all of these different sciences make/create an affordable food supply for us and the animals around us. Also science is important because in this ever changing world we have to worry about catastrophic events, like pandemic and natural disaster and science helps us monitor and predict when those events will come so we can be prepared. Science also helps uncover the past so we are able to predict the future of human life, disease, and other things and we are able to do that with anthropology, paleontology, and forensics. Science also is important to society because it helps us make informed choices, wether that comes down to a hostage situation and we have to analyze the suspects behavior to make the best choice, or in a terrorist situation when we have to use things like cyber security to help shut it down, or someone has stage four cancer and we are trying to decide what medication or trial to put them on for the best chance of living. All of this is provided to us by these sciences computer science and cybersecurity, data science and data analytics, biomedical and health informatics, AI and machine learning, software development. Science also helps us understand human and animal behavior like I brought up before a hostage situation and we have to analyze the suspects behavior to make the best choice, or maybe to help out people with a mental illness, all of this is provided to us by these sciences neuroscience, animal behavior, counseling and clinical psychology and social sciences. Overall science has become an important part of society helping us maintain the ability to live a healthy life, keep our planet healthy and provide food for us and animals, also to monitor and predict catastrophic events, like pandemic and natural disaster. To help uncover the past and predict the future of human life, to help us make informed choices, but also to understand human and animal behavior. Without science I strongly believe we would still be living like cave people and thats why science is the most important pillar to society. And I want to be a part of that future and becoming a forensic medical examiner I could help predict and prevent disease but also be able to do my true passion of studying ovarian cancer and help women find a cure. And with this scholarship I would be able to start my journey.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
I respect my own mental health and others as well and that's how it should be.

    Ms. Susy’s Disney Character Scholarship
My favorite Disney character would have to be Cinderella, not only for her blue sparkly dress, or her cute mouse friends, but for her genuine story. I loved the story of Cinderella because from a young age she taught me kindness towards all no matter what they have done to me, forgiving others for doing wrong no matter how much I would like to take revenge or hold a grudge, and never letting bad things ruin your heart no matter how many problems I face in my life to always remain a good person. With these lessons I was able to tackle many things that have come up in my life with sports, school, and just relationships in general. She also showed me how I shouldn't be treated and even when I am being treated bad how to deal with it. And she showed me how if you work hard and have a little faith you can do anything. Cinderella also proved to me that you don't have to be the prettiest girl, or wear makeup all the time to find love in this world because the prince was still in love with her when he got to her house and she was in ragged maid clothes. But also like I said Cinderella has an amazing looking dress that is the most amazing blue and this has also made her my favorite Disney character because as much as she did teach me she also has given me inspiration for my prom dress. And again her little mouse friends also were just too cute not to love ( but I hate mice in real life). I have watched Cinderella and the spin off movies over and over and I believe she is still a great role model to children past, present, and future.

    Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
Apple watches have really inspired me and shown me how much technology can help track medical issues. I recently got an apple watch and while going through the features I saw that you were able to run a blood oxygen test but also and EKG. And this is honestly amazing to me because now people can have medical tests on them at all times and it's not perfect but its getting there. And I believe by the year 2030 apple watches will be saving lives making the world a better place.
