Dorothy Bell Vereen Moor's, legacy is still present in the hallways of North Myrtle Beach High School. Through her grandchildren and children, she has left a forever impact on the hearts of students. Many students need to be reminded of Dorothy's push for good moral judgment, faith, and the elbow grease it takes to be respectable and impeccable because I know that I needed to be reminded. During my sophomore year, I hit a high school slump. I was hanging out with the wrong crowd of people and was not being the character that I knew I was capable of. God drew near to my heart and reminded me that I was bigger than what I knew at the time. I finally looked in the mirror and knew that I needed to change to be respected and become of better faith. Later that year as I was trying to be of better character I learned who Dorothy Bell Moore was. I learned how she impacted her grandchildren to be of the best character not only in school but out of school as well. She opened my eyes to the bigger picture, which was high school is not the only place you need to be successful the other place that needs to be of high success is your faith, because without faith you are a walking zombie. You will never know what you are fully capable of without knowing that God is holding your hand. He's been there from the start but you need to know him to feel him, and trust me once I felt him I never let go. Dorothy Bell Moore not only changed my mindset on school but she also saved me from being distant from God. I now know why Corey and Tarik were such respectable young adults. Threw the love of their grandmother they learned the truth of life very quickly during their teenage years, which is what is lacking in the world today. Holding a conversation with children today is very different than what it used to be. Many children are not educated on the principles that Corey and Tarik were held to and it shows. I pray that one day all the students will be educated on who Dorothy Moore was because she saved me not just academically but also in my faith. Students in this generation are becoming so self-absorbed that they can not see what truly matters. They don't know what hard work is, they don't know what being of good character is, and they are distancing themselves from the most important person in their lives God. This generation of High School students needs to be educated on Dorothy Moore and her grandchildren, because not only do they represent people of good character, but they also represent hard work, morals, family, and faith. Something we all needed to be reminded of every once in a while. I will forever treasure Dorothy Moore and will do my best to spread her wise words of wisdom to my classmates. Dorothy Bell Moore is forever in our hearts and our alma mater just reminds us of what truly matters family.
