Hi all, my name is Shikyra and I was born and raised in Houston, Tx. I have recently been accepted to the University of St. Augustine for the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program beginning in the Spring semester.
My overall life goal is to break generational curses, and provide opportunities to young, minority individuals who seek entrepreneurship! My main focus right now is to obtain my doctorate in physical therapy to become a pediatric physical therapist, and eventually open my own practice! My scholarship rewards will go toward my tuition , so I won’t have to stress about finances through this rigorous program.

Pandemic's Box Scholarship
At the beginning of the pandemic, my employer put me on temporary leave, and I had to receive unemployment benefits for about five to six months. Because of this, I had to deny admission to my graduate program because of my financial predicament. During this time, my mind opened up, and I realized that if I had my own business to fall back on, I wouldn’t have to worry about being put out of a job because of unfortunate events such as the pandemic. Instead of stressing about my situation, I got the chance to spend time brainstorming business ideas, and I ended up writing my first how-to guide about being plant-based/vegan. So far, I’ve sold a little over thirty copies, and although this may be a small amount to others, it is a massive achievement for me! I proved to myself that if I dedicate my time to work on my personal goals, I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. The pandemic helped me become conscious of entrepreneurship and how much I don’t want a company or person telling me when I can and can’t work.
