Bio

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with an anticipated graduation in December 2026. As a single mother, my journey is grounded in resilience, determination, and a commitment to building a better future for my family and the communities I will serve. Balancing parenthood with the demands of a rigorous nursing program has strengthened my discipline, time management, and perseverance. Each challenge I encounter continues to shape me into a compassionate and capable nurse who leads with empathy, integrity, and purpose. My goal is to serve diverse and underserved populations while contributing to a more equitable healthcare system. I am passionate about delivering holistic care that supports not only physical health, but also emotional and social well-being. I am a strong candidate for this scholarship because I have remained focused and driven despite obstacles, with a clear vision for my future in healthcare. This opportunity would support my continued growth as I work toward excellence in both my academic and clinical training. I understand that the path ahead will require sacrifice and strength, but I welcome that challenge. Margaret A. Briller Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Growing up with a single mother shaped much of who I am today, and it instilled in me the resilience, determination, and compassion that guide both my personal and professional goals. My mother faced the daily challenges of providing for our family while navigating financial hardship, emotional strain, and the absence of a partner. Watching her persevere despite these obstacles taught me that strength is not defined by circumstances, but by the ability to keep moving forward, even in the face of uncertainty. Her example planted in me a deep understanding of responsibility, empathy, and the importance of working toward a better future. Becoming a single mother myself has brought those lessons full circle. Raising my children alone has been the most challenging and meaningful journey of my life. There were days when the weight of responsibility felt overwhelming, as I navigated poverty, emotional hardship, and the heartbreak of my children growing up without their father due to incarceration. I have had to be both provider and nurturer, strong when I felt weak, and hopeful even when circumstances seemed uncertain. Each struggle taught me practical skills, like stretching every dollar, balancing time, and finding emotional strength, but also deeper lessons about perseverance, faith, and resilience. My children have been my greatest motivation to continue pushing forward, and every challenge has reinforced my commitment to break generational cycles of poverty and limitation. Pursuing a career in nursing is both a personal and professional goal that aligns deeply with the values exemplified by Margaret A. Briller. Nursing represents compassion, service, and the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others during vulnerable moments. My mother had a dream of pursuing a career in healthcare that she was never able to finish, and I carry that dream forward, not only for her, but also for my children and the communities I hope to serve. Earning a nursing degree will allow me to provide care with empathy, integrity, and skill while creating a stable foundation for my family. It is a chance to transform personal struggles into meaningful contributions that extend far beyond my own life. Receiving the Margaret A. Briller Scholarship would significantly ease the financial burdens I face while continuing my education. Balancing the costs of tuition, living expenses, and childcare is a constant challenge. This support would allow me to dedicate more time and energy to my academic and clinical growth, rather than dividing my focus between work and school. It would serve as both practical assistance and a validation of the perseverance and hard work that have brought me this far. With this support, I could continue progressing toward my goal of not only completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in December 2026 but ultimately pursuing a doctorate as a nurse anesthetist. My professional goal is to use my nursing degree to make a positive impact in the world, particularly by serving underserved and vulnerable populations. I want to be a nurse who provides not only medical care but also emotional support and advocacy for those who need it most. I hope to bring holistic care to communities that face systemic barriers, ensuring that patients are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. I also aim to inspire others, especially young people in similar circumstances, to see that perseverance, education, and determination can break cycles of adversity. The adversity I have overcome in pursuing my education has been significant. Juggling the responsibilities of single parenthood, financial stress, and a demanding nursing program has tested my resolve in ways I could not have anticipated. Yet, each challenge has strengthened my resilience, sharpened my focus, and reinforced my commitment to my goals. Every late night of studying, every early morning balancing work and family, and every difficult decision to prioritize long-term success over immediate comfort has shaped the person I am today, a determined, compassionate, and goal-oriented individual. In pursuing nursing, I aim to honor the lessons of my past while building a future defined by opportunity, service, and impact. I am committed to breaking generational cycles of hardship in my family, creating stability and abundance for my children, and using my skills and experiences to uplift others. The Margaret A. Briller Scholarship represents more than financial assistance; it represents a partnership in this mission, a recognition of perseverance, and an investment in a future dedicated to compassionate care, resilience, and meaningful change. Through nursing, I will turn adversity into empathy, challenges into motivation, and my dreams into action that benefits not only my family but also the communities I serve.

Growing up with a single mother shaped me in ways that continue to guide who I am today. I witnessed firsthand the strength it takes to carry the weight of an entire household while facing financial hardship, emotional strain, and the absence of a partner. My mother did everything she could to provide for us, often sacrificing her own needs so that we would not go without. Watching her navigate those challenges instilled in me a deep sense of resilience, responsibility, and determination at an early age. Our home was not always easy. There were moments filled with uncertainty, where making ends meet was a constant concern. I saw what it looked like to stretch every dollar and make the most out of very little. Despite the hardships, my mother remained strong and present, showing me that perseverance is not about having perfect circumstances, but about continuing forward even when things feel overwhelming. Her example taught me how to endure difficult seasons without losing sight of hope. At the same time, growing up in that environment made me aware of the cycles that can hold families back. Financial instability, limited opportunities, and emotional struggles can easily repeat from one generation to the next if they are not intentionally addressed. I realized early on that I wanted something different, not only for myself, but for my future family. That awareness became the foundation of my drive to break generational curses. Breaking those cycles has required intentional choices, discipline, and the willingness to take a different path. Education became my way forward. I saw it as an opportunity to create stability and open doors that had not always been accessible in my family. It also meant learning to think differently, to believe that my circumstances did not define my future. Instead of accepting limitations, I chose to challenge them. Becoming a single mother myself brought those lessons full circle. I now carry both the understanding of what my mother went through and the responsibility of shaping a new path for my own children. While I have faced similar challenges, I approach them with a renewed sense of purpose. I am determined not just to survive, but to build something better. I want my children to grow up seeing strength, stability, and possibility, rather than struggle and limitation. My experiences have shaped me into someone who values perseverance, empathy, and growth. I have learned how to remain grounded during difficult times, how to support others with compassion, and how to keep moving forward even when the journey feels uncertain. Most importantly, I have developed a strong sense of purpose rooted in creating change. Breaking generational curses, to me, means rewriting the narrative. It means transforming hardship into motivation and using every obstacle as a stepping stone toward something greater. It is about ensuring that my children inherit not the struggles of the past, but the strength, knowledge, and opportunities to build a better future. Everything I do is guided by that intention. While my upbringing came with challenges, it also gave me the tools to grow into a resilient and determined individual. It taught me that strength is built through adversity and that change begins with a single decision to do things differently. I carry those lessons with me every day as I continue working toward a future defined not by limitations, but by possibility.

Raising my children as a single mother has been the most challenging and meaningful journey of my life. There have been days when the weight of responsibility felt overwhelming, navigating poverty, emotional hardship, and the heartbreak of my children growing up without their father due to incarceration. In those moments, I have had to step into every role for my family. I became both provider and nurturer, protector and guide, strong even when I felt weak, and hopeful even when circumstances seemed uncertain. Through it all, my children have remained my greatest motivation to keep pushing forward, even when the path ahead felt unclear. There were many moments when I questioned how I would make ends meet or where I would find the strength to keep going. Some days felt heavier than others, filled with uncertainty and fear about the future. Yet, each struggle became a lesson in resilience. I learned how to stretch every dollar, how to make something out of nothing, and how to comfort my children through their own confusion and pain. I learned how to hold myself together for their sake, even when I felt like I was falling apart inside. Most importantly, I learned how to keep faith during the hardest times, trusting that our situation was temporary and that something greater was ahead. I have always been intentional about the example I set for my children. I never wanted them to feel defined or limited by our circumstances. Instead, I wanted them to see that perseverance, faith, and determination have the power to change the course of their lives. I wanted them to understand that where they come from does not determine where they are going. Every sacrifice I have made and every obstacle I have faced has been with the purpose of creating a different future for them, one filled with stability, opportunity, and hope. Pursuing a career in healthcare, specifically nursing, is deeply personal to me. It is not only my dream, but also the dream my mother once carried. She was never able to finish her journey, and that has stayed with me in a profound way. I carry her dream alongside my own, using it as motivation to keep moving forward when things become difficult. I am determined to complete what she started, not only to honor her, but also to show my children the importance of finishing what you begin. Nursing represents more than a career to me. It represents compassion, healing, and the opportunity to be present for others during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. My experiences have shaped the kind of nurse I aspire to become. I understand what it feels like to struggle, to feel uncertain, and to need support. Because of that, I will approach every patient with empathy, patience, and genuine care. I want to be someone who not only provides medical assistance, but also emotional reassurance. I want to be a source of comfort and strength for individuals and families who may be going through some of the hardest moments of their lives. My goal is to serve diverse and underserved communities, ensuring that everyone receives the care and dignity they deserve. Graduating is not just an achievement for me. It is a promise fulfilled. It represents the long nights spent studying after putting my children to bed, the early mornings filled with determination, and the countless sacrifices made along the way. It reflects the moments when I chose to keep going despite exhaustion, doubt, and fear. More than anything, it represents a turning point for my family. I am pursuing this path so my children will no longer have to experience the struggles we have faced. I want them to grow up in an environment where they feel secure, supported, and inspired to chase their own dreams without limitation. This scholarship would not only ease the financial burden of continuing my education, but it would also serve as a reminder that perseverance and hard work do not go unnoticed. It would allow me to focus more fully on my studies and clinical training without the constant weight of financial stress. With this support, I would be able to continue building the foundation necessary to succeed in nursing school and beyond. My journey is about more than personal success. It is about breaking generational cycles, creating new opportunities for my children, and giving back to the community that I am proud to be a part of. I want to use my education and experiences to uplift others, especially those who may feel overlooked or discouraged by their circumstances. I want to be living proof that it is possible to rise above adversity and create a meaningful, impactful life. I understand that the road ahead will not be easy. There will be challenges, sacrifices, and moments that test my strength. However, I welcome those challenges because they are part of the process of growth. With resilience, faith, and determination, I will continue to push forward. My ultimate goal is not only to become a nurse, but to advance my education and earn a doctorate as a nurse anesthetist. I know that this path will require endurance and unwavering commitment, but I am prepared for that journey. Everything I am working toward is rooted in purpose. I am doing this for my children, for my mother, for myself, and for every person I will one day have the privilege to care for. My story is still being written, and I am determined to ensure that it is one defined by strength, compassion, and the courage to keep going, no matter the obstacles.
