Starting over at 47 years old sucks, but as a disabled military veteran, former civil service employee, mother, and after loosing my husband to covid-19 double pneumonia, a widow so I’m up for the challenge! I had no choice but to pivot. I decided not to let grief win by ruining mine and our children’s lives. We have attended a lot of counseling and therapy sessions we have learned the importance of being flexible with the stuff life throws at you and to reflect on the good times that we had with Cranston Sr, while learning what our new normal looked like without him. After reading a lot of books, especially those by Dr. Myles Munroe and finding our purposes, my children and I are thriving! Finding my purpose involved me going back to school to learn and train to become a Master Barber, once finished then take the Georgia State Board Exam to obtain my license, then open my own barbershop in Americus, Georgia. I have always loved anything hair. Coloring, hairstyles, hair cuts, and textures. I also love when clients see their new hairstyle and the look in their eyes when they smile. The smile on their face is everything. I love it! I love helping people look their best, because once they look good, then they feel great, and once a person feels great nothing can stop them from accomplishing their dreams and goals. Purpose fulfilled! I have learned the hard way that life waits for no one. Just because you are experiencing a tragedy in your life, the world does not stop for you. The bills do not stop and say we will wait til you cry your eyes out and get it together then will come back. No! Life will laugh and throw more tomatoes at you! You either lay down and get ran over, get out of the way of those doing the running and watch from the sidelines, or put on your running shoes and get in the race of life. I have chosen the latter! After doing a lot of business research in my area and finding out that there is not one barber or barbershop that specializes in doing mini male manicures, custom hair pieces (partial wigs, topper, or toupee) or cornrow braids I decided that this would be my niche. These are my main skill sets anyway! My barber instructor, Mr. Roberson, says almost everyday in class that he still gets calls from potential clients in Americus asking if he knows someone who can do a razor shave on the head and beard sculpt without cutting up their heads, he says he is not confident in recommending barbershops. Then he lectures to us about the importance of finishing the barbering program and becoming Master Barbers to get those clients. This is going to be my bread and butter once I finish college, but I need your help. It is my reason for applying for this opportunity. Receiving this scholarship award would be a game changer for my children and I. And because I would have a barbershop, I plan to do User Generated Content (UGC) of products, services, and equipment for brands in the Beauty industry. I am learning how to do this now on TikTok. I plan to never have an empty chair. I have learned to use my resources wisely so a client, content, or product will always be in my chair! Thank you so much for spending time with me while I dream! Starting over at 46 years old in a new career sucks, but as a disabled military veteran, former civil service employee, mother and after loosing my spouse of twelve years within one month, at the end to 2021 to covid-19 double pneumonia, a widow I’m up for the challenge! I had no choice but to pivot! The loss of my husband shook my children and I to our core, we had no warning. I have had to make some very hard decisions, one of which was not letting grief win by ruining mine and our children’s lives. We have attended a lot of counseling and therapy sessions where we have to learned the importance of being flexible with the stuff life throws at you and to reflect on the good times that we had with Cranston Sr while learning what our new normal looks like without him. It takes meditation, prayer, talking, and reading a lot of books, especially those by Dr. Myles Munroe. Focusing on finding ourselves and our own purpose for living, my children and I have found how to not only live without Cranston Sr but thrive as he would want us to be! Finding my purpose involved me going back to school to learn and train to become a Master Barber. Once I finish, then I will take the Georgia State Board Exam to obtain my state license. Then I will open my own barbershop in Americus, Georgia. I have always loved anything and everything hair, coloring, doing hairstyles, and cutting hair. I also love when clients see their new hairstyle in the mirror. I love the look in their eyes when they smile. The smile on their face is everything! I love it! I love helping people look their best, because once they look good, then they feel great, and once a person feels great nothing can stop them from accomplishing their dreams and goals. Purpose fulfilled! I have learned the hard way that life waits for no one. Just because you are experiencing a tragedy in your life, does not mean every other person is. The world does not stop for you! Business does not stop for you! The sun even doesn’t stop for you! The bills do not stop and say we will wait til you cry your eyes out and get it together then will come back. No! Life will laugh in your face and throw more tomatoes at you! You either lay down and get ran over, get out of the way of those doing the running and watch from the sidelines, or put on your running shoes and get in the race of life. I have chosen the latter! And because I would have a barbershop and because I am over 40 years old, I plan to capitalize on this to do User Generated Content (UGC) brands in the Beauty and Fashion Industries. After researching again, these brands are looking for persons over 40 years old to do their companies content for their products, services, and equipment. You either lay down and get ran over, get out of the way of those doing the running and watch from the sidelines, or put on your running shoes and get in the race of life. I have chosen the latter! After doing a lot of barbershop research in my area and finding out that there is not one barber or barbershop that specializes in doing mini male manicures, custom hair pieces (partial wigs, topper, or toupee) or cornrow braids I decided that this would be my niche. These are my main skill sets anyway and will be my bread and butter! My barber instructor at South Georgia Technical College, Mr. Roberson, says almost everyday in class that he still gets calls from potential clients in Americus and surrounding counties, asking if he knows someone who can do a razor shave on the head and beard sculpt without cutting up their heads. He says he is not confident in recommending current barbershops in our area. Then he lectures to us about the importance of time management, professionalism, finishing the barbering program, and becoming Master Barbers to get those clients. He also lectures to us about having state contracts for future graduates who are professional like myself. Once I finish college my life is going to change, but I need your help. It is my reason for applying for this opportunity. Receiving this scholarship award would be a game changer for my children and I. These are my main skill sets anyway and will be my bread and butter! I have been a kitchen beautician since I was 15 years old growing up in the projects. It is a gift! Even in my military days I was braiding hair in the dorms. I taught myself how to do finger waves, roller sets, make wigs, and do sew-in styles. I have taken online courses to learn new techniques that help me cut my wig sculpting time in half making me more proficient and professional. I can do some hair, but shadow fading hair, regular fading, tapering hair, getting that edge design line correct, and cutting with the clippers was tough for me to learn by myself so I went to college. My barber instructor at South Georgia Technical College, Mr. Roberson, says almost everyday in class that he still gets calls from potential clients in Americus and surrounding counties, asking if he knows someone who can do a razor shave on the head and beard sculpt without cutting up their heads. And because I would have a barbershop and because I am over 40 years old, I plan to capitalize on this to do User Generated Content (UGC) for brands in the Beauty and Fashion Industries. It is easy to get content using a clipper with just a video while cutting a client, or getting a video for a razor brand while during a beard sculpt using their product. Why not do both at once! After researching again, these brands are looking for persons over 40 years old to do their companies content for their products, services, and equipment. So I am actually starting over in two new careers. 2025 is my year! I have already obtained a free list of some brands and companies. I’m preparing myself for these opportunities as well. Again, 2025 is my year! I am learning how to do User Generated Content work right now on TikTok. I have some UGC work for small percentages to gain the experience I need so that when I pitch to the big dogs like Wahl, Babliss, Proline, etc I will have my stuff together and a portfolio of work to show them what I can do. I plan to never have an empty chair. I have learned to use my resources wisely so a client, content, or product will always be in my chair! Thank you so much for spending time with me while I dream! Starting over at 46 years old sucks, but as a disabled military veteran, former civil service employee, mother, and after loosing my husband to covid-19 double pneumonia, a widow so I’m up for the challenge! And because I would have a barbershop and because I am over 40 years old, I plan to capitalize on this to do User Generated Content (UGC) brands in the Beauty and Fashion Industries. After researching again, these brands are looking for persons over 40 years old to do their companies content for their products, services, and equipment. I am learning how to do this now on TikTok. I plan to never have an empty chair. I have learned to use my resources wisely so a client, content, or product will always be in my chair! Thank you so much for spending time with me while I dream! Starting over at 46 years old sucks, but as a disabled military veteran, former civil service employee, mother, and after loosing my husband to covid-19 double pneumonia, a widow so I’m up for the challenge!
