I am a single mom of three children, they are 2,3, and 6. I am currently pursuing a degree in nursing while caring for my children and working full time in behavioral health. my GPA is currently a 3.5 or higher. I am dedicated to my education and field of study to honor my daughter and the medical team that saved her life when she was born at 24 weeks. I want to be able to help give people the care they need just like my daughter and I were given during one of the scariest times of our life. A career as a nurse will not only make me the first person in my family with a degree but it will break the generational curse of not being educated and living in poverty. I plan to continue to work hard and study as much as I need to in order to not only pass school but to be well educated and equipped with the knowledge and skill needed to ensure I am a GOOD nurse and serve my community by providing compassionate care and help people heal. I want to show my children that education is important and that we do not let our short comings define us and we are able to go as far as we are willing to work to go. I am projected to graduate in March and I am so excited but I worry about my ability to provide for my children and pay my upcoming tuition for my next classes. During my time as a nursing student I have been able to work with many patients, one family I have been able to care for nominated me for a daisy award, the daisy award is an outstanding accomplishment for a nurse and it represents dedication to healing and compassion. I am the first person in my family to pursue and education and even graduate High School. I want my future to have no limits and I plan to accomplish as much as I can. Long term I plan to become a nurse practitioner and focus on lower income families to build healthier lives and encourage education and prevent women and children from living their entire life unhealthy, I will educate them and help provide resources to enrich their lives. I am passionate about caring for children as well, I want to care for the vulnerable pediatric community and help be an advocate for them. This scholarship will help provide me with enough support in addition to my financial aid to get me through my last few classes of nursing school. Education will set you free, and take you further than you can imagine. I hope to positively impact all the lives I encounter.
