My name is Shelby Inman. I am a lot of things to a lot of people. Like a friend, a student, a teacher, a sister, a daughter, and a granddaughter. Growing up I’ve been blessed to have such wonderful women in my life to influence me and my upbringing, and to always aspire to be the best woman I could be. I am a proud Latina, and am so grateful for my wonderful heritage. My biggest drive in my life is to be the first woman in my family to go to college and get my Bachelor’s Degree, and to make my grandma and my mom proud as it was something they were unable to accomplish at my age. Getting my degree will be a degree that they too get to hold, as without them I wouldn’t be here. I aspire to be an Aerospace Engineer, and currently plan on attending Boise State University to study Mechanical Engineering and Minor in Computer Science. As long as I could remember I loved all things space and airplanes. To me, it was never a question of if I can do it, but a question of when I can do it. I remember always having a yearn to learn, and checking out the same space books for months at a time. I remember at just 7 years old reading all about Amelia Earhart, Mae Jemison and Sally Ride, thinking “Wow, that could be me someday!”. I remember talking to my librarian asking her to set aside any space books she gets for me, she truly was someone who nurtured my curiosity and I am so grateful for her kindness. To prepare myself for this journey I worked on completing college classes while in high school. At the time of high school graduation, I graduated with an Associates Degree in Biology. However, my dreams are just beginning and I have a lot more left to accomplish. I participated in several clubs during high school such as Girls Who Code, HOSA, KEY Club, NHS, Phi Theta Kappa, RAK Club, and Interact Club. As I begin this next year at Boise State I will be participating in the NASA SUITS Student Project Program, where I will be working with NASA to create spacesuit user interface technology for the upcoming Artemis Mission. I also will be participating in the Honors College at Boise State, along with the Society of Women Engineers, YoungLife Student Club, and Computer Science Club. My dreams are only just beginning and receiving this money would change my life. It would alleviate a lot of the stress I currently am holding, and would allow me to further improve myself in the future and in my career. You would be investing in my future as a Woman in STEM, and my hope is that one day I will give back to the future women pursuing STEM. As for the past few years I have had to work to save up for this dream of mine, and know firsthand that it can be difficult, discouraging at times, and stressful. Especially taking full time college courses in high school. My dreams are what I make them, and I’m going to make them come true.

    Bryent Smothermon PTSD Awareness Scholarship
Through a personal family friend and their experiences with service-related PTSD, I have learned a great deal about myself and the world around me. A family friend of ours served in Afghanistan during 2008, and has since dealt with the challenges with no help from the military. I have come to understand the impact that PTSD can have on not only the person suffering from it, but also on their loved ones and the community around them. Taking away their way of life, and with little support. I have learned that PTSD is a complex and challenging condition that requires support and understanding from those around the person suffering. Empathy is important, as triggers can mean more than what most think. I have seen firsthand how important it is for family and friends to be patient, compassionate, and non-judgmental when supporting someone with PTSD. I have also learned that there is a great need for mental health resources and support for military veterans who are struggling with PTSD. Many veterans may feel isolated and alone in their experiences, and it is important for them to know that there are resources available to help them heal. After the contribution they have given us, it is important to appreciate that gift and extend a hand to them. Afterall, without them we wouldn't have the luxuries we have. Through my experiences with this family friend and their struggles with PTSD, I hope to use my own knowledge and empathy to help other veterans who are currently suffering from this condition. I plan to volunteer with organizations that provide support and resources for veterans, and have routinely written letters to veterans dealing with PTSD. I hope that kind words and compassion can be enough to change the life of just one person, and make them smile. I know these are people who are mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, coworkers, grandparents, and I can't help but feel the need to help them as much as I can if they were my own brother or sister. I also hope to use my experiences to raise awareness about the importance of mental health support for military veterans and their families. It is crucial that we as a society recognize the sacrifices that our service members have made and the unique challenges that they may face as a result of their service. We must work to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage veterans to seek help when they need it. Not only that, but encourage people to respect the struggles individuals face with PTSD such as triggers and how they can be of help. Ultimately, my experiences with a personal family friend and their struggles with PTSD have taught me the importance of empathy, understanding, and advocacy. I believe that by using my own experiences to connect with and support other veterans, I can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who have served our country. It is the least that I can do. In conclusion, the personal experiences of those close to me with service-related PTSD have had a profound impact on my life and my aspirations to help others. Through my own knowledge and empathy, I hope to make a difference in the lives of other veterans who are struggling with this condition. We must work together as a society to provide the resources and support that our military community needs to heal and thrive. We need to be there for them and show up for those who showed up for us on the battlefield.

One of the most impactful ways that individuals can contribute to the sciences is by conducting research that leads to new discoveries and advancements. Scientists can work on developing new technologies, materials, and processes that can address pressing issues, from sustainable energy sources to life-saving medical treatments. For example, a biologist might conduct research on a new cancer treatment, a chemist might develop a more efficient battery, or an environmental scientist might work on reducing the impact of human activities on the planet. These discoveries can have a significant impact on society and can lead to new products, services, and industries that benefit humanity. In addition to conducting research, individuals can also have a significant impact by sharing their knowledge and expertise with others. Science education is a critical component of promoting scientific literacy and encouraging the next generation of scientists and innovators. By teaching students about scientific principles, conducting hands-on experiments, and inspiring curiosity and creativity, science educators can help prepare the next generation of scientists and problem-solvers. Furthermore, individuals in the sciences and/or science education can also have a significant impact by engaging with the broader community. By communicating the importance of scientific discoveries and advancements, individuals can help promote public awareness and understanding of complex scientific issues. This can help build support for scientific research and promote evidence-based decision-making. Another way that individuals in the sciences and/or science education can have a significant impact is by promoting diversity and inclusion. Science has historically been dominated by certain groups, and it is essential to ensure that all voices and perspectives are represented in scientific research and education. By promoting diversity and inclusion in the sciences, individuals can help ensure that scientific advancements are accessible and beneficial to all members of society. Finally, individuals in the sciences and/or science education can have a significant impact by promoting ethical conduct and responsible research practices. Scientific research can have significant consequences, and it is essential to ensure that research is conducted in an ethical and responsible manner. This includes promoting transparency, ensuring the safety of research participants, and avoiding conflicts of interest. In conclusion, my hope through pursuing a career in the sciences is that I can create change. So I can work alongside other individuals with the opportunity to make a significant impact on society. Whether by conducting groundbreaking research, teaching the next generation of scientists, promoting public awareness and understanding of complex scientific issues, promoting diversity and inclusion, or promoting ethical conduct and responsible research practices, I want to have the potential to make a difference. To better the lives of those around me, while exploring the wonders of life. By working together and applying scientific principles to real-world problems, I would love to be a piece of the bigger picture to address the pressing issues facing humanity today and create a better world for our future generations.

Authenticity is arguably the most valuable personality trait in today’s world. As a young woman living in the current society, there are always pressures around me to be someone else. However, I don’t want to be someone else. I am me, and that is the most beautiful and authentic part to humanity. Firstly, I am goofy and always strive to make people laugh. Sometimes I mismatch my socks, and most times I dress in lots of color. I giggle and use sound effects on the daily, and don’t need to alter my lifestyle to fit a niche. I am always smiling, and find the good in each little thing. Life gets hard sometimes, but optimism has always helped and is something I rely on heavily. While my likes and dislikes don’t make me unique, I feel that it certainly adds to who I am. As surprising as it may sound I am not on my phone much, and prefer to be without it. I love sunsets and sunrises, as well as dogs and the beautiful nature that surrounds me. My favorite things in this world are the small things, and those of which I get to share those small things with. Stargazing or night drives with music blaring, or when you get ice cream and soak in the sun at the beach. Life is full of amazing experiences like this, and I enjoy each moment as much as I can. I enjoy hiking, working out, meeting new people, and learning. So much so, that I am currently getting my Associates Degree while in High School, and will graduate at 18 with my High School diploma and an AA. I take action to my future dreams, and while there are many out there with a similar passion. The simple truth lies with that nobody is me, and I am nobody else. There is only one of each person in this world all with a belonging, unfortunately sometimes it can be hard for people to nurture their unique qualities. Whether it be that others might judge or that nobody will see the good in that quality, it holds many people back from authentically being themselves. I have worked very hard to reach my goals, and plan on going into the field of Aerospace Engineering. I have always loved STEM and most importantly Aviation and Space. I hope that you can invest in my future so I can bring authenticity into the world and inspire others to stay authentic and true to themselves. We only have one life, and what good is it to spend it living in someone else’s shadow? We all are unique, but we all don’t express those qualities like we should.
    Kyle Rairdan Memorial Aviation Scholarship
Aviation is something that raised me. I grew up surrounded by learning and seeing airplanes. My father was a huge fan of all things aviation, and so my passion almost feels like an extension of himself. It makes me feel like I am with my dad even if he isn’t physically here. I am fascinated with aviation and how it is evolving and taking the human race to new heights. It’s innovative, it’s inspiring, and really exciting. Upon obtaining a degree in the aeronautics and aerospace field, I’d like to pursue aerospace engineering and learn how to fly. I also would love to help young people discover STEM and the amazing world around them. Most importantly young people in underserved communities, as STEM isn’t oftenly taught to children of these communities. Growing up Hispanic this was a luxury that my dad taught me, and many of my cousins and friends were not taught about STEM and the possibility of learning in our world beyond what was believed. Science wasn’t talked about enough and physical labor was far more important and taught to be a supportive career. Throughout my time in High School, I have made it my goal to work as hard as I can to reach this dream of mine. I have been involved through several community centered programs such as KEY Club, Interact Club, National Honor Society, and Phi Theta Kappa. Participating in food drives, community clean ups, community event set ups, as well as writing letters to veterans and childhood cancer patients. Although many more events have taken place and allowed me to give back and serve my community. All while meeting the requirements of 100 service hours per semester for my local NHS Chapter, and above a 3.5 GPA. While in High School I have demonstrated academic achievement. I currently hold a 3.9 GPA, and am pursuing a current associates degree program while in High School. I am set to graduate this June with my High School diploma and an Associate’s degree. Allowing me to be one step closer to my dream career. During this time, I have been recognized on the presidents list for academics four times. Taking rigorous high level college courses, full time at just 17 years old. I have also worked part time so I can save up for my college tuition and the cost needed for my appropriate certifications and paying for flights as well. It hasn’t been easy, but visualizing my dream and where I want to be makes it all the worth it. I would do it over and over again.
    Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
My favorite song on the ‘1989’ album has got to be This Love, let me tell you why. I feel that This Love portrays a love story about a special kind of love, one that arises after many love stories that are anything but. It connects me to a story of my own and that makes it all the better. I met my boyfriend 3 years ago, and loving him has been a refreshing experience and a true blessing. It’s a love where you feel safe and secure. Where you feel like you’re in the best of hands, and that you are loved beyond measure. This love has so many powerful meanings both in musical terms and in terms of love and life. While our love stories are all so different, we all deserve to have “this kind of love”. This is the love that can run marathons, climb mountains, and even complete the impossible. This song conveys such a powerful message, and that is why I love it so much. Love also has its struggles and challenges, some may seem difficult to impossible but true love wicks it through. A kind of love where nobody can even come remotely close to that person, and your heart is fully invested. It’s a special feeling and a special bond that you have. Taylor Swift is an amazing singer and songwriter, who I feel conveys messages into such beautiful songs that hold so much joy and comfort. Her production style really changes how her music is influenced and inspired to those around her. I could go on and on about the ‘1989’ album, but by far one of my top favorites is this love, for more personal and emotional reasons. One of my entire favorite albums from Taylor is actually ‘1989’ as I feel like it puts an emphasis on life and the ups and downs of living, loving and growing. This album is very special and sentimental to me, for that reason as I navigate this next chapter of my life. Music is a huge influence in my life and really is the ultimate healer I feel. Music can make you almost travel in time, and with Taylor’s music I feel that almost every time. She has created music that has each been a part of my life in each moment of growth. From early childhood to early adulthood, Taylor has created music that has inspired many people including me.
    Headbang For Science
My name is Shelby and I am a current Senior in High School. At just 18 years old, upon graduation I will also be graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Biology. Where my goal is to Major Computer Science upon starting at Boise State this fall with a minor in mechanical engineering. Through high school I have maintained a 3.9 GPA, I also will be the first female in my family to get a college degree among several generations. When I am not in school I love to be outdoors, I love music, and most importantly love to learn! In school however, I am a very involved student, and have remained part of several clubs, including NHS, PTK, Key Club, and receiving awards such as president’s list at my time in College. My professional and academic goals are very similar, I want to give the best I possibly can to my academics and career. Academically, I truly would love to become more involved in my interest field, and become more engaged without the fear of being judged. Professionally, I do have a goal to go into Aerospace Engineering/Software Engineering with a focus in Aerospace. I need this award because school is expensive, my family is not in a financial position to pay for my college and it isn’t a burden I want to put on them. I’ve worked so hard over the past 4 years truly there has been much blood, sweat, and tears. This award would allow me to focus on my very demanding degree, and ease the stress of having to stress about finances. My parents have tried their hardest to make a good life for me, unfortunately we’ve fallen on rough times after my dad had a diagnosis that put him out of work and on Medical Leave. I plan on working through college, whether it be on campus or off campus just so I can pay for school. I also plan on working full time upon my break after graduation and saving up all of my money to go towards school. I have picked up gigs here and there such as dog walking, babysitting, and nannying which has been flexible with my current busy schedule! Anything I can do to ease that stress on my parents is important to me. Heavy Metal is my childhood, before my grandpa passed away it was some of his favorite music absolutely ever. We bonded over much of it, and it always was so much fun spending time with him and having those memories to hold, and for me those will always be held with heavy metal. It was music that only my grandpa listened to but I loved, and I made it an effort to keep his spirit alive even when he died. Upon passing I still listen to it almost all of the time as it is a reminder of my grandpa and the close relationship we had before he passed. While it was hard, having this music to reminisce on the good times helped so much. It’s become a big part of my life, I listen to it when I miss him, or when I’m on a big adventure, or quite honestly when I want to! (Which according to Spotify is all the time) Heavy Metal is part of me, my life, my heart, and my soul. Nothing can come close to how big of an impact it has had on my life and the memories of the most important people in it. Truly amazing and so special.
    Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
One piece of technology that intrigues me is the current technology NASA is using for the Hubble, let me explain. For as long as I could remember I have loved Space, it has connected me and my family and ultimately nurtured my love of STEM. Growing up I remember the wonder I felt from seeing these photos from space, and it made me so curious. It often prompted me to read more about space and learn all that I could about space. It was so exciting and a feeling I never forgot. I love how the functionality is simple, yet the process was not. How much of this life is a process, I find it amazing that we are able to create such amazing things, together. This piece of technology is beautiful because it allows us to feel connected to a sense of wonder and excitement that takes us back to that childlike feeling. Likewise, I love how technology can be creative or logical, live-saving or time-saving, or even downright interesting. Learning is something I love, and I never want to stop. I don't think anyone should because knowledge is power, and there is so much to learn about anything and everything. I love that technology can bring us together over a common concern or a shared experience, and how we have the ability to better our lives or raise the next generation of brilliant thinkers, who knows? Maybe they will be the ones who create a spaceship that allows us to go to that galaxy shown on our daily bubble pic of the day. Crazy now, but totally possible. That is the wonder of technology and the excitement of the future. Something I hope generations can come to appreciate and hopefully expand on with continuing generations.
Future Leaders in Technology Scholarship - College Award
I am interested in pursuing the field of Computer Science. I was in awe of the field and was sure that was what I wanted to do. I found that having the ability to create something from just lines of code, was so powerful and inspiring. So I began teaching myself how to code, I started with python and have continued to start with HTML, Javascript, and CSS. I have found the process exciting, and the learning process that much more exciting. I like that challenge. I love getting to learn and my goal is hopefully to one day be able to use code to help make a difference in the world. My goal after my degree is to become a software engineer. I would love to work in either tech or the avionics field as I have also grown up around the field of aviation and found it so interesting. I also hope to work on side projects to share that wonder of code with other individuals, and I surely hope that I can spread that wonder to my own children. I enjoy learning and would love to continuously learn about the field, I also love teaching people and I would love the opportunity to educate other individuals if given the chance. One problem I hope to solve is making code accessible to the communities around me, I would love to share that wonder with kids who may not know what that wonder quite is. I would make it my goal to teach those from my community as well as anyone who wants to learn. As a proud Hispanic, I would love to make my family and those in my community proud. I feel that I am the best candidate because I am a go-getter, I am self-motivated, and am responsible. I am a current high school senior who is wrapping up my sophomore year of college, and I am graduating with an associate's degree as well as my high school diploma. I am making my goals a reality and working each day towards making them happen. I am a learner, and I wish to continuously learn throughout my life, that is why I feel like this career is such a great fit. I have big plans for my future, and I know that without a doubt I will reach those goals so that one day I can look back and do just what I want to do now. I would so greatly appreciate this special opportunity and appreciate your time and consideration. Thank you.

Over the past few months I have been interested in coding, I have taken a couple of python courses. I have also begun learning different web development languages such as CSS, and HTML, and tinkering with Javascript. Although I have tinkered, one specific coding project I created actually made a mock UNO game. It was one of the most exciting projects I have made, and I look forward to learning more. I will never forget the delighted looks my family had when I showed them what I had created. It was a family hit and my siblings even insisted on playing it again and again. Although it was small. It was a moment where I saw where exactly my coding skills would be used, while I wouldn't see the people of the world using my software directly, I could only imagine that what I would do would bring such light and excitement to their life. Hopefully, it could bring people together in that process as well. Coding and the world of technology is a very exciting field, I love getting to be creative and also help others. I think coding has the potential to do so much good and help so many individuals. I also have tinkered and created an "encouragement chatbot" so that if anyone I know is feeling down they can get some words of encouragement via "Daisy the chatbot". It was one of my first projects but I have continuously kept up and evolved the projects so that it can be used by those who need it. In fact, last week was my local college's finals week, and I shared this chatbot with a couple of students in my class to serve as an initial "Beta Test", but ended up having working software that actually encouraged several students across my numerous classes. While it is little, I want to continue to make that chatbot more visually appealing, to do so I plan on learning the ins and outs of web design and UI design- so that my hopes of daisy helping more people, is more accessible and eye-catching instead of just a black and white analog box. If I had the opportunity to receive this scholarship, it would help me excel in my career and learn so many valuable skills to make me a software engineer. I would excel in the projects I am currently making now and hopefully work on bigger projects. I have started designing a webpage, but I have so many plans to do so much more. I would love nothing more than to create a difference with just a few lines of code, and even better bring smiles to others. Thank you for your consideration.

For as long as I could remember I have loved creating things and connecting people. I also have loved challenging myself and pushing myself with harder concepts, to learn more as an individual. I believe knowledge is power and really challenging yourself is how you learn. I like to say that engineers are like storytellers. They tell stories through all types of mediums like structures and code, but the beautiful part is they all equally have an impact on someone's life. Much of what we have wouldn't be possible without engineering like going to space, traveling, technology, and even music. I love storytelling and I feel like there is a very big connection between storytelling and engineering, which is why I have taken such a liking to this field. I have always wanted to help people and allow people an opportunity to feel heard and create their own stories. Stories become memories, and I think that is a beautiful thing- because it makes a difference and an impact on an individual's life. We put a strong value on certain memories in our life, for example, getting married or having kids may be big ones. What about the smaller moments though? Like the first concert you went to or a day you spent with your best friends back in High School. These are moments that all make up our lives but serve as beautiful reminders of the person we were, and the person we are becoming. These stories serve as a gentle reminder of the beauty in life. Science is a part of me and has been part of so many special memories in my life. Growing up my dad flew airplanes, and I remember how patient my dad was in answering my curiosity about the world. On the days when he was off, we would go to the science center and spend hours building things and learning about the world. It is my favorite memory, and has been a pinnacle story in my life. I grew up around science and always asking questions, about every little thing. It was a curiosity I never outgrew and when I had the opportunity to explore careers, I knew exactly what my calling was. I am passionate about engineering because it's what connects me to my very own story and allows the ability for others to find their own. There is no book without stories.

Growing up I have always wanted to give back and accomplish something to make my family proud. I am the first person in my family and female to go to college let alone become a doctor. There is something so satisfying and just heartwarming when I help people, I feel so complete and it is the best feeling in the world. I actually plan on serving my community when I finally reach my end goal, which will be my commitment to diversity. I want to work towards serving my community as it wasn't served much when I was growing up. There was a huge gap and many of the individuals who were in that gap needed it the most but couldn't receive it. I come from a Hispanic family and as I have grown up I have heard doctors question me about how I felt. I grew up with severe asthma for most of my childhood, so I was quite frequent in the clinic and sometimes in the ER. It is a feeling that no person should hear, to be questioned on your health. I believe every individual knows their body better than anyone else, and a doctor should second that. That is also partly why I want to become a doctor so that my future patients never have to feel the lack of reassurance I felt as a kid when it came to expressing how I felt. Health is important and everyone should have an equal shot at expressing how they feel with full confidence and reassurance. I need any financial help I could get, my family is not helping me with school because it is too expensive for them. As of now I am relying on scholarships and saving up money from side jobs to pay for college. I work on the weekends and on weeknights I babysit. No price is too big for my goals and I am willing to do whatever it may take to get there. Even if it means missing out on some of the experiences in high school. I have very big goals. I want to become the first female in my family to go to college, of course, get a degree and become a doctor, as well as graduate with a bachelor's degree by the age of 20. Currently, I am 16 taking College classes towards my Associate's Degree. I recently was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Phi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa after receiving a 4.0 in my first term of college. I also am an active member of the National Honor Society at my High School. I am doing everything I can to make it. The future is bright and we aren't giving up! :)

I am a 16 year old female Latina student, who is proud of my heritage! I currently live in the Pacific Northwest, in Washington State. A beautiful state that is very diverse in communities, and very welcoming. I have lived here most of my life, and have been able to meet so many amazing individuals, but also found a community where I can feel comfortable and accepted. I am actively pursuing my dream career of becoming a doctor. As part of taking action I am currently a dual enrolled student (both high school and college), working towards my associates degree and looking to further that education through university and med school. I am actively serving my community through various clubs and take every opportunity I get to do so, while also working a job (with a few babysitting side jobs) to pay for my college classes to get me through the year. I currently hold a 3.9 cumulative GPA, and am very academically driven being recognized for both NHS and my School’s Honor Roll. I want to serve my community and help others, especially those in under served communities. I want to make it my goal to help contribute making my community a better place and a healthy one as well, for generations to come. To serve those that have once served me. I have had many family members pass away due to the fear of not being covered by insurance and choose to let their illnesses take power. I want to help stop that fear and help make it accessible to those like my family members who unfortunately couldn’t have access to that resource. I actively participate in various clubs centered towards community service such as National Honor Society, Key Club, and Interact Club. I find a lot of joy in helping others and want to help as many people as I can. It is a different feeling of satisfaction getting to have the opportunity to help make someone feel better. Especially those within your community, because you directly see the outcome of your help. With this scholarship money I would put it towards my current semester tuition, which would allow me to stress a lot less about my tuition and focus more on my degree path, and also be able to afford books. This would help me so much continue a career path I am so passionate about without the fear of funds getting on my way. This would be an investment with a great return.

At the start of the pandemic I was not having the best relationship with myself, I was in a toxic friend group, and I was very anxious and feared being by myself and alone. As we transitioned into a state lockdown I started learning more about myself. I learned about relationships and who I really need in my life, to get me where I want to be, and I grew very close to my family. I started working out, and feeling good about myself, and grew confident. I put myself first, gave myself time for self-care and time to think about things. I really took time over quarantine to learn, I have a huge love for learning and ended up learning some new subjects like psychology. I also started learning new hobbies and doing many new projects. I also read a lot of books, and it really helped keep me busy. Nearing the end of our lockdown in just 4 months I had gone from very anxious being alone, to enjoy the time I had alone. I could finally sit in a room with myself and it didn't nearly bother me as it did before. I can be alone with myself, and that is something that has taken time for me to adjust to. I have become confident and it has gone farther than just body image, but confidence in my future goals, and my education. I have been able to set goals for myself, and have even taken serious steps towards becoming a doctor and pursuing my dream job. If there is anything that I have learned about myself during this time it is this, life is short and you really have to cherish every time you have with everyone. I have learned how to cope with my anxiety, and have learned that I am good at baking? Which I never knew! I have walked away from the people who aren't good for me and have started investing in the relationships I know have my back. I have learned about my insane amount of drive and ambition I have towards life and my goals. As well as my love for helping others in a time that needs the help most. I have had a love for science since I was young, and I absolutely love the field of health. During this time my plans have changed to wanting to pursue a career in medicine, and really put my love for helping others out there. I was always told to find something you enjoy doing and make that a job, and you will never have to work a day in your life. Now I feel that I have found that love, and something I enjoy doing.
    Evie Irie Misfit Scholarship
I have never had a lot of friends growing up, I was always doubted and torn down, and my mindset was a lot different than those around me. I was always super creative and I never had an outlet to do that, so I turned to create content, which allowed me to have an outlet to create, better express myself, and connect to other misfits like myself. I lived off of the connection and knowing what I know now, that has inspired me to connect people, make them feel valuable and less alone. Truthfully we are only as alone as we think we are. I want to use this perspective of mine to help others recognize themselves and their identity, because that is the best part of being you, and you should own that. We only live once, and there is no shame in being your authentic self. So on top of my content, and wanting to pursue an education to enhance that goal, I plan on breaking the mold of what societal expectations expect because we start living when we live for ourselves and nobody else. Even if it may feel weird, it makes you feel better, and really opens your horizons. A misfit is someone who goes outside of others comfort zone, and their own, they live life for themselves, and they aren't like everyone else, they are them. That is something everyone should own because we all have that misfit side to us, and using that can connect us to each other.

I am currently working on reaching my goals of helping others while pursuing the hobbies of mine and working to pay for that dream of mine. I am a very involved student at my school, recently a National Honor Society Inductee, a member of HOSA, and a member of my school's local chapter of Interact. I also am working to balance a 3.95 GPA, while working to get a job to save up. I am doing as much as I can to give back, and I really have a passion for helping others, and so I have chosen the path of medicine. I can only think about medicine, and being able to be involved in such an amazing and helpful career just excites me! Using this grant would help me be able to learn more about marketing and business and connect that to helping others. One of my big goals, when I get older, is to be able to connect people through medicine. Knowing business can also allow me to know how to run my own practice while making medicine accessible to more people. I have always had an eye for business, and a love for science and health, so why not connect the two? I am currently learning Spanish in hopes to be able to reach more patients and help even more individuals. With this grant, you are investing into my future, of doing things bigger than myself, to help others.

We never fully understand how important people are to us until we almost lose them, and I could not live without my brothers. They have helped me grow so much in my life, and really help me realize my importance. Through all the tough moments, they are there. Through all the questions I don't know the answer to, they are there. Through all the times I need support, they are there. No matter what it is, they are always there for me. Without my brothers, I would not be exposed to the amazing experiences and opportunities this world can offer, and I would not nearly cherish these moments as much as they do. However, as time goes on, and as we get older, we have new priorities, and it isn't always each other. Out of it all though, I have learned it isn't often we are given the opportunity to have a best friend you can call your sibling.
    Justricia Scholarship for Education
Education has been with me since birth. From the moment we are brought into this world learning, we learn based on our surroundings. Ever since I was young I had a passion for helping others, learning, and being able to spread positivity. I have always enjoyed school, getting to learn new subjects and apply them to my life, is absolutely amazing to me! Education has opened my world not just to the technical and scientific aspects, but the social aspects. Education has allowed me to meet many amazing people, giving me the growth today, I need to become the person I want to be tomorrow. I have also met Teachers who have changed my educational career for the better, reflecting their own passion for Education through my studies, giving me the motivation and the appreciation for education. I have realized my worth, drive, ambition, and I have been able to take hold of my future all because of Education. Personally, I enjoy studying and learning new things as much as I can, getting to educate myself on more subjects, and being able to expand my knowledge and learning capabilities. Due to that, I have realized my passion and my future career, being exposed to the options that best fit me through education, resulting in my drive for the field of medicine. Education has always nurtured my thinking and learning skills, allowing me to grow into the person I want to be, and giving myself the resources to do the things I want to do. With every new day comes new learning opportunities, and it is up to us to learn from those around us.
    Support Small Businesses Scholarship
Small businesses are important. I absolutely love the small business community and I love to do anything and everything I can to help support this truly unique and special community. Knowing where it is sourced, how it is changing someone's life, and knowing how unique it is. These are the qualities of shopping small. When you buy small you can see the outcomes and the growth. You get to connect with your community and get to connect to a small business owner who is working to start their own business with their own goods at a whole new level. One day I hope to be able to connect to my community in the way that the small businesses in my community do. Knowing how they drive for their products and community to connect, and seeing the impact it has on more than just their life, but others. I cannot tell you how many times I have been brought joy by buying small. It is an experience you can't get in a corporate based business because when you are there it is not a sales pitch, it is a genuine and real conversation. Over time you grow relationships in this community faster than any other, after a few visits you can be a regular, a valued customer, that wouldn't otherwise receive such recognition at a big business. You can feel the impact. You know where your money is going and how it is an investment not into a product, but into a lifestyle.
Sander Jennings Spread the Love Scholarship
At the young age of 12, I went through a dark time, dealing with depression as a result of bullying. As a young kid, it bothered me and resulted in me doing online school, out of fear. Through that time I had grown a lot and learned a lot about myself. I felt broken at first and felt like I couldn't do anything. It was a feeling that I never wanted to feel again, and so I finally took initiative to get myself back to myself. Over the years I have grown as a person and while I may not be the same person, I surely feel way better today. It hasn't been an easy journey, but I wouldn't trade it for the world, and here is why. We all grow up believing things we see and hear around us, we are easily impressionable, we want to be one with the crowd, and so we play along. Over time I have noticed as I have grown into myself, that my life is short. If I want to live my best life, I only have this life to do so. You can't live your life if you live it like everyone else, or try to be someone else. As I have embarked on my self-love journey I have learned and found my true passion for my future; to help others and spread a smile during a time in need. I started learning about the Healthcare field and took an immediate interest in pediatrics, I absolutely love children and I love to help others. Without this journey of mine, I never would have learned that, and quite honestly I would have never learned the importance of relationships. I connected to my family during this time and developed a strong bond. I took this time of being alone and learned about those around me by studying psychology, I didn't do it for a class, I did it for me, and for my love of all things learning. I learned how to deeper understand my feelings and cope with them in a healthy way. I became confident, and independent, and felt happy again. With that, I found who I needed to surround myself with, letting go of all of the people in my life who never truly loved me, for me. I looked for relationships that were healthy, encouraging, loving, supportive, and unique. My beliefs have also changed, and I no longer care what others think. We spend so much of our life living for others or in the pursuit of others that we truly forget to be ourselves. Our life is a story, and we only have one narrator. I believe that loving ourselves is important, because if we can't love ourselves for who we are, how can we become the people we want to be, in our own story?
    Scholarcash Role Model Scholarship
My role model is my older brother, Kalib. Despite the sibling rivalries, he has always been a role model for me, and I am very thankful to have him in my life. He constantly gives me advice about life, school, work, and even family. He encourages me to reach towards my goals, and I have him to thank for giving me insight into the world of Medicine. He has always told me to find my passion and pursue it. I found my passion for helping others at the young age of 9 and since then I have made it my goal to do just that, in medicine. I and my older brother are 9 years apart, a big gap. I have seen him, graduate high school, go to college, and start his career. It has been hard having to see him leave, but I have seen how those experiences have shaped him. Growing up in a Hispanic Family it is not common to see your cousins and family go to college and seeing my older brother do that makes me think of how much I am capable of doing that as well. I will be the first woman in my family to graduate college and become a doctor. An achievement I am very proud of and honored to have. Although it was not just me, I have to thank my brother for getting me here. He inspires me every day to continue working hard and encourages me to be the best I can be. I know that it isn't often we have such a strong member of our family to rely on or shape us into who we are, but the moment we find a role model is a moment that we have someone to guide us, and inspire us into pursuing our future. Without my brother I would not be nearly the person I am today, seeing him achieve so much has made me realize that, I can do that too. I have seen him win competitions, reach milestones like getting a job for a major company, and even graduate college. Something that my parents had to work for us to receive those opportunities. I have gone through tough times in my life, but I never let those define me. I constantly find ways to improve and push myself, and not let myself be consumed by negativity and doubt, a quality my brother taught me about life. We can only control so much, and life is so short to care about every little thing, if you aren't happy, make a change, if you want more, and if you feel bored, make a change. We all control our lives, what we once held, what we hold today, and what we hold tomorrow. I will never forget these words my brother told me, "Never lose sight of where you are going, but always remember where you came from." these words, derived from a popular quote, really do mean something once you put it together. If it wasn't for my brother, I would have never known what it meant, and most importantly would've never known what I am capable of.
    Bold Moments No-Essay Scholarship
This might not be the bold we are used to. Bold can be defined in many ways than one. Being somewhere new, out of the ordinary, and breathtaking. That can be bold. Taking a step outside of a world you know, and seeing something new, from a different perspective. That is bold. These photos showcase my love for travel, and the bold opportunities and adventures you experience, like visiting Jackson Hole, Wyoming (Seeing the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone).
