    Mental health is important to me as a student because I know what happens when no one talks about it. I spent most of middle school alone in my room, not eating, watching my hair turn grey at twelve years old, and I had no idea why. I thought I was broken. It took a high school health class to finally give me a name for what I was experiencing. OCD. Undiagnosed, unspoken, but real. The constant checking. The inability to trust myself. I have missed assignments not because I did not understand the material, but because I was exhausted from fighting myself. Mental health is not separate from academics. It is the foundation. How I Advocate I am not a loud person. I do not give speeches or start clubs. That is not how I work. But I advocate in smaller ways that feel more honest to who I am. At home, I started being honest with my family. That was hard. My parents grew up in a refugee camp where survival was the only priority. There was no room for OCD or anxiety. But I sat them down anyway and told them about the checking, the photos I take, and the grey hair I have hated for years. They did not fully understand. But they stopped asking why I take so many pictures of locked doors. That is a small win. At school, I advocate by being visible. I do not hide my coping strategies anymore.
