Students Impacted by Incarceration Scholarship
Incarceration has impacted my life not directly, but through the experiences of people close to me. Growing up, I witnessed family members, including my cousin, go through the effects of having parents in and out of jail and prison. Seeing how incarceration affected not just the individuals involved, but also the families around them, gave me a deeper understanding of responsibility, resilience, and the long-term impact of choices.
One of the most meaningful experiences for me was when my family helped take care of my cousin’s baby, Eric, while his parents were serving time. During that period, I saw firsthand how incarceration can disrupt families and create emotional and financial challenges for those left behind. It was not just about the absence of his parents, but the uncertainty, instability, and adjustments that everyone had to make. That experience stayed with me because it showed me how important support systems are during difficult times.
Watching my cousin grow up with that experience also taught me a lot about strength. Despite the challenges she faced, she continued to move forward, adapt, and stay focused on building her own path. Seeing her resilience helped me understand that while circumstances can be difficult, they do not define a person’s future. It showed me that it is possible to rise above challenges with determination and the right mindset.
These experiences have shaped the way I approach my own life. They have taught me the importance of making positive decisions, staying focused on my goals, and understanding the consequences that actions can have not just on one person, but on entire families. It has also given me a strong sense of empathy and a desire to help others who may be going through difficult situations.
Academically and professionally, these experiences have motivated me to pursue a career where I can make a positive impact. I plan to study kinesiology and become an athletic trainer, where I can support individuals as they work through physical and mental challenges. I want to be someone who encourages others, especially those who may not always have strong support systems, to continue pushing forward.
Incarceration showed me the importance of stability, support, and resilience. It taught me that while I cannot control everything around me, I can control my choices and the direction I take in life. These lessons continue to guide me as I work toward my goals and strive to create a future that reflects growth, responsibility, and positive impact.

The person I admire most and who has had the greatest influence on my decision to pursue higher education is my mother. As a single parent, she has taken on every responsibility in our household while continuing to encourage me to work hard and stay focused on my future. Watching her balance so much while still supporting me has inspired me to push myself and pursue opportunities that will help me succeed.
My mother has always emphasized the importance of education, even during difficult times. There have been moments when things were stressful, and I could see the pressure she carried, but she never allowed that to affect her belief in me. She consistently reminded me that education is one of the most important investments I can make in myself. Because of her, I have learned to stay committed to my goals, remain disciplined, and continue working toward a better future.
Her strength and determination have shaped the way I approach my own life. She has shown me that success requires hard work, perseverance, and the ability to keep going even when things are challenging. I carry those lessons with me every day, especially as I prepare to pursue a degree in kinesiology and build a career as an athletic trainer.
In addition to her influence on my education, my experiences in school and extracurricular activities have helped me develop confidence in communication and leadership. While I have not formally participated in speech and debate or mock trial, I have gained similar skills through my involvement in sports and student athletic training. These experiences have required me to communicate effectively, work with others, and stay composed in high-pressure situations.
Through athletics, I have learned how to express myself, support my teammates, and stay focused during competition. In student athletic training, I have had to communicate clearly with athletes, offer encouragement, and help guide them through recovery. These experiences have strengthened my ability to speak with confidence, listen to others, and respond thoughtfully in different situations.
My motivation to continue developing these skills comes from my desire to grow both personally and professionally. Strong communication is essential in any field, especially in healthcare. As someone who plans to work closely with individuals as an athletic trainer, I understand the importance of being able to explain, encourage, and connect with others effectively. I want to continue building these skills so I can better support the people I work with in the future.
I also want to honor my mother’s influence by continuing to push myself toward success. Everything I achieve is a reflection of the values she has instilled in me. I plan to build on her support by staying committed to my education, working hard toward my goals, and using my experiences to help others.
Receiving this scholarship would support me in continuing my educational journey and developing the skills I need to succeed. It would allow me to stay focused on my studies and continue growing into someone who can make a positive impact on others.
My mother’s strength, guidance, and belief in me have shaped who I am today. Because of her, I am motivated to pursue my education, continue growing, and work toward a future where I can make a meaningful difference.
Women in Healthcare Scholarship
I have chosen to pursue a degree in healthcare because I am passionate about helping others overcome challenges and continue living active, healthy lives. My interest in this field developed through my experiences in sports and student athletic training, where I had the opportunity to see firsthand how injuries and physical setbacks can affect individuals both physically and mentally. These experiences inspired me to pursue a career in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer so I can support others in their recovery and growth.
Being involved in athletics has taught me the importance of strength, discipline, and perseverance. However, it has also shown me how quickly an injury can change everything for an athlete. I have seen teammates and peers struggle with setbacks that not only affected their physical abilities but also their confidence and motivation. Through my role in student athletic training, I was able to assist and support athletes during these difficult moments. That experience showed me that healthcare is not just about treating injuries—it is about encouraging, guiding, and helping people regain their confidence.
As a woman entering the healthcare field, I want to make a positive impact by being someone who understands and supports patients on both a physical and emotional level. I believe that representation and compassion are important in healthcare. Many individuals feel vulnerable when dealing with injuries or health challenges, and having someone who listens, understands, and genuinely cares can make a meaningful difference in their recovery process. I want to be that person for others.
In addition to my interest in athletic training, my background has also shaped my desire to help people. Growing up in a household where responsibility and resilience were necessary, I learned the importance of supporting others and staying strong during difficult times. I have carried those values into my academic journey and my future goals. I understand that healthcare professionals play a critical role in people’s lives, and I am committed to being someone who brings both skill and compassion to that role.
I also hope to make an impact by working with communities that may not always have access to proper healthcare resources. I want to ensure that individuals, especially young athletes, have the support they need to recover safely and continue pursuing their goals. Everyone deserves access to care, guidance, and encouragement, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue pursuing my education with greater focus and less financial stress. It would give me the opportunity to invest more time into my studies and hands-on experiences that will prepare me for my future career. More importantly, it would support my goal of becoming a healthcare professional who makes a positive and lasting impact on others.
Choosing a career in healthcare is more than just a career decision for me—it is a commitment to helping others overcome obstacles, regain their strength, and continue moving forward. As a woman entering this field, I am determined to make a difference through compassion, dedication, and a genuine desire to support others in their journey to better health.
Curtis Holloway Memorial Scholarship
The person who has had the greatest impact on my educational journey is my mother. As a single parent, she has taken on every responsibility in our household while still finding ways to support, encourage, and guide me toward success. Watching her handle everything on her own has shaped who I am today and has motivated me to work hard toward my goals.
Growing up in a single-parent household, I quickly realized that my mother carried a lot on her shoulders. She worked hard to provide for our family, manage daily responsibilities, and still be present in my life. There were times when things were not easy, and I could see the pressure she was under, but she never allowed those challenges to stop her from showing up for me. She made sure I stayed focused on school, encouraged me to keep pushing forward, and reminded me that my future was worth the effort.
Her support has shaped me in more ways than I can fully express. She has taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and determination. Seeing her continue to move forward even during difficult times showed me that giving up is not an option. Because of her, I have learned how to stay focused on my goals, manage my time, and push through challenges even when I feel overwhelmed.
One of the most important ways I honor her support is through my commitment to my education. I work hard in school, balance responsibilities, and stay focused on building a future that reflects everything she has sacrificed for me. I understand that the opportunities I have are a result of her efforts, and I do not take that lightly. Every step I take toward my goals is also a reflection of her strength and dedication.
As I continue my educational journey, I plan to build on the foundation she has given me by pursuing a degree in kinesiology and becoming an athletic trainer. I want to create a stable and successful future not only for myself, but also for my family. I also want to give back and help others, just as my mother has always helped me. Her example has shown me that success is not just about personal achievement, but about lifting others up along the way.
Growing up in a single-parent household has made her support even more meaningful. Without another parent to rely on, her role has been everything—provider, supporter, motivator, and role model. Her strength has been the foundation that allowed me to grow, and her belief in me has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams.
Her support has been instrumental in shaping my path, and it continues to drive me to succeed. I honor her not only through my words, but through my actions—by staying committed, working hard, and striving to build a future that reflects everything she has poured into me.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue moving forward in my education while carrying the lessons she has taught me. It would be another step toward achieving my goals and honoring the support that has made my journey possible.
Strength in Adversity Scholarship
Growing up in a home that took in foster children gave me a unique perspective on resilience, responsibility, and compassion. While I was not in foster care myself, I witnessed firsthand what it meant for children to be removed from their homes and placed into unfamiliar environments. Being part of that experience shaped who I am and taught me lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
One moment that stands out to me was when a foster child first arrived at our home. I remember how quiet and unsure they were, clearly overwhelmed by the situation they had been placed in. It was a reminder that not everyone has stability or a sense of safety, and that something as simple as a welcoming environment can make a huge difference. At that moment, I realized that resilience is not always loud or obvious—it can be seen in the small ways people keep going, even when they are scared or uncertain.
Being part of a household that supported foster children meant that I had to learn patience and understanding at a young age. Each child came with different experiences, emotions, and challenges. There were moments when things were difficult, when emotions ran high, and when it was hard to fully understand what someone else was going through. However, those moments taught me how to be more compassionate, how to listen, and how to support others even when I didn’t have all the answers.
This experience also taught me a lot about strength. I saw children who had been through incredibly difficult situations still find ways to smile, trust, and adapt to a new environment. Watching them work through their challenges changed how I viewed my own struggles. It helped me realize that while my challenges were real, I had the ability to face them with strength and determination.
Because of this experience, I approach challenges in my own life differently. When I feel overwhelmed balancing school, work, and responsibilities, I remind myself of the resilience I witnessed in others. Instead of giving up, I push forward. I have learned how to stay patient, manage my emotions, and continue working toward my goals even when things feel difficult.
This experience has also influenced my future goals. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer, where I can support individuals as they recover from physical and mental challenges. I want to be someone who encourages others, just as I learned to do in my own home. I understand that support, patience, and encouragement can make a lasting difference in someone’s life.
Looking back, being part of a home that welcomed foster children is something I am truly proud of. It showed me the importance of kindness, resilience, and the impact that a supportive environment can have on someone’s life. It also helped me grow into a person who values helping others and facing challenges with strength.
This experience has shaped how I see the world and how I approach my future. No matter what challenges I face, I know that resilience is built through perseverance, and that even in difficult situations, there is always an opportunity to grow.
Arlin Diaz Memorial Scholarship
Receiving this scholarship would have a meaningful impact on both my education and my ability to stay focused on achieving my long-term goals. As a student preparing for college, I am fully committed to pursuing higher education, but I also understand the financial challenges that come with it. This scholarship would help ease that burden and allow me to dedicate more time and energy toward my academic success and future career.
Throughout high school, I have worked hard to balance academics, extracurricular activities, and work responsibilities. I have learned the importance of discipline, time management, and perseverance. While I have remained focused on my goals, I have also had to face the reality that continuing my education will require financial support. The cost of tuition, books, and living expenses can quickly become overwhelming, especially for students who are working hard to build a future with limited resources.
This scholarship would allow me to reduce that stress and focus more fully on my studies. Instead of worrying about how I will cover expenses, I would be able to invest that time into my education, my career development, and opportunities that will help me grow. It would give me the ability to stay engaged academically, seek out internships, and gain valuable experience that will prepare me for my future profession.
I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology with the goal of becoming an athletic trainer. This career path is meaningful to me because I have seen how physical challenges and injuries can affect individuals not only physically, but mentally as well. Through my experience in student athletic training, I have had the opportunity to support athletes as they recover and continue working toward their goals. These experiences have shown me the importance of encouragement, patience, and proper care, and they have inspired me to make a difference in the lives of others.
In addition to my academic and career goals, I am committed to honoring the memory and legacy behind this scholarship. Arlin Diaz’s story represents strength, resilience, and the importance of perseverance through challenges. If selected as a recipient, I would honor that legacy by continuing to push forward in my education, even when faced with obstacles. I would also strive to give back to others in meaningful ways, whether through my future career or through community involvement.
Giving back has already been an important part of my life. I have volunteered in my community through activities such as helping provide food during the COVID-19 pandemic, assisting at local events, and supporting others during difficult times. These experiences have taught me that even small actions can make a difference, and they have reinforced my desire to continue helping others in the future.
If I were given the opportunity to receive this scholarship, I would carry its purpose with me throughout my educational journey. I would use it not only as financial support, but also as motivation to continue striving for success and making a positive impact. I would remain committed to my goals, stay focused on my education, and work toward building a career where I can support and uplift others.
This scholarship represents more than financial assistance—it represents an opportunity to move forward with confidence, determination, and purpose. With its support, I would be able to continue working toward my dreams while honoring the values of resilience and compassion that it stands for.
Resilient Scholar Award
Growing up in a single-parent household has shaped who I am in ways that continue to influence my mindset, goals, and determination. My mother has been my main source of support, strength, and guidance. Watching her manage everything on her own has taught me lessons about responsibility, resilience, and what it truly means to work hard for the people you love.
In a single-parent household, there is often an understanding that everyone has a role to play. From a young age, I learned the importance of stepping up, helping where I could, and being mindful of the challenges my family faced. My mother carried the weight of providing, making decisions, and keeping everything together, and seeing that firsthand gave me a deeper respect for her sacrifices. It also motivated me to take my own responsibilities seriously, especially when it came to school and preparing for my future.
One of the most important realizations I had came during high school, when I began balancing school, work, and extracurricular activities at the same time. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed trying to keep up with everything. I would come home tired, knowing I still had assignments to complete or responsibilities to handle. At times, it felt like too much, and I questioned whether I was doing enough or if I could continue at the pace I had set for myself.
However, during those moments, I began to see things differently. I realized that the challenges I was facing were not obstacles meant to stop me, but opportunities to grow stronger. I started to understand that my situation was shaping me into someone who could handle responsibility, stay focused under pressure, and continue moving forward even when things were difficult. Instead of comparing my journey to others, I began to appreciate my own path and the strength it was building within me.
This realization changed how I approached my life. I became more disciplined with my time, more focused on my goals, and more appreciative of the sacrifices my mother had made for me. I also became more motivated to succeed, not just for myself, but for my family. I want to be able to give back, to create stability, and to show that all of the hard work and sacrifices were worth it.
Being raised in a single-parent household has also taught me empathy and understanding. I know that many people face challenges that are not always visible, and that everyone is fighting their own battles. This perspective has influenced how I treat others and how I approach my future career. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer, where I can help people recover, stay strong, and continue pursuing their goals despite setbacks.
Receiving this scholarship would mean more than just financial support. It would be an opportunity to continue building a future that reflects the values I was raised with—hard work, perseverance, and resilience. It would allow me to stay focused on my education and take another step toward achieving my goals.
Growing up in a single-parent household has not always been easy, but it has made me stronger, more determined, and more prepared for the future. It has taught me that success is not about where you start, but about how you choose to move forward. I am proud of my journey, and I am committed to continuing to grow and succeed.
Christian Fitness Association General Scholarship
I believe I should be considered for this scholarship not only because of my academic efforts, but because of the determination, growth, and commitment I have demonstrated throughout my high school journey. My experiences have shaped me into someone who understands the value of hard work, resilience, and giving back to others. I have learned that success is not simply about talent or opportunity, but about consistency, discipline, and the willingness to keep going even when things are difficult.
Throughout high school, I have worked hard to stay focused on my education while balancing responsibilities outside of the classroom. I have maintained my commitment to school while also working a job, participating in sports, and being involved in student athletic training. Managing all of these responsibilities has required strong time management, discipline, and focus. There were many days when I felt overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure of how I would keep up with everything. However, I understood that these sacrifices were necessary for my future, and I continued to push forward.
Working while attending school has taught me responsibility at a young age. I have learned how to manage my time effectively, prioritize my responsibilities, and stay committed even when I felt tired or discouraged. Balancing a job with school and extracurricular activities has not always been easy, but it has strengthened my work ethic and prepared me for the challenges I will face in college and beyond. It has also taught me the importance of independence and accountability, which are skills I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
Being involved in sports has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. Through athletics, I have learned the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. I have experienced both wins and losses, and each has taught me valuable lessons about growth and resilience. Sports have shown me that improvement takes time, effort, and dedication, and that setbacks are not failures, but opportunities to learn and become stronger.
In addition to participating in sports, my involvement in student athletic training has had a major impact on my personal and academic development. Through this experience, I have had the opportunity to work closely with athletes and support them during both their successes and challenges. I have seen how injuries can affect not only an athlete’s physical abilities, but also their confidence and mental well-being. Being able to assist and encourage others during those moments has inspired me to pursue a career in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer. I want to help others recover, stay motivated, and continue doing what they love.
Outside of school, I have made it a priority to give back to my community through volunteering. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked in a community garden that helped provide food for people in need. I have also volunteered at local events, handed out water during marathons, participated in school clean-up efforts, and helped prepare meals for families during difficult times. These experiences have taught me that making a positive impact does not always require something big. Even small acts of kindness and service can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
One of the most important parts of my journey has been learning how to overcome challenges. Balancing school, work, and personal responsibilities has not always been easy, and there have been times when I felt overwhelmed. There were moments when I questioned whether I could keep up with everything, but I refused to give up. Instead, I learned how to adapt by becoming more organized, setting goals, and staying focused on what truly mattered. These challenges have strengthened my resilience and helped me develop a mindset that allows me to push through difficult situations.
My goal is to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer. I want to work with individuals, especially young athletes, to help them recover from injuries, improve their performance, and maintain their overall health. I am passionate about helping others and making a difference in people’s lives. I also want to work in communities that may not always have access to proper resources, so I can help create opportunities for others to succeed.
Receiving this scholarship would significantly impact my ability to continue my education. It would help reduce the financial burden that comes with pursuing a college degree and allow me to focus more on my studies and my future career. More importantly, it would give me the opportunity to continue working toward my goals without being held back by financial limitations.
What sets me apart is not just what I have accomplished, but the mindset I have developed along the way. I have learned how to stay determined, remain focused, and continue striving for success even when faced with challenges. I understand that success is not given—it is earned through hard work, perseverance, and consistency.
I am committed to continuing my education, growing as a person, and giving back to my community. I want to use my experiences, knowledge, and skills to make a positive impact on others. I believe that with the support of this scholarship, I will be able to take the next step toward achieving my goals and creating a better future for myself and those around me. For these reasons, I believe I would be a strong and deserving candidate for this scholarship.
Valerie Rabb Academic Scholarship
I am a high school senior who has learned that success does not come easy, but it is possible with hard work, consistency, and the willingness to keep going even when things feel overwhelming. My goal is to pursue a career in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer so I can help others stay healthy, recover from injuries, and continue doing what they love. I want to make a positive impact by supporting athletes not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally.
One of the biggest challenges I have faced is learning how to balance school, work, and my future all at the same time. Throughout high school, I have worked jobs while keeping up with my responsibilities as a student. There were times when I felt stressed and overwhelmed trying to manage everything. Balancing shifts at work, school assignments, and thinking about my future was not always easy. There were moments when I felt like I didn’t have enough time or energy, but I knew I had to keep going.
Instead of giving up, I learned how to manage my time better and stay focused on my goals. I reminded myself why I was working so hard and what I wanted for my future. I also stayed involved in sports like volleyball, basketball, and track, which helped me stay motivated and disciplined. Being part of a team taught me how to push through difficult situations and not give up when things get challenging.
In addition to my personal responsibilities, I have also been involved in community service. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I volunteered in a community garden where we helped grow food for families in need. I have also helped at food pantries and supported families during difficult times by helping prepare meals for funerals. These experiences reminded me that even when I am going through challenges, there are others who are facing even more, and it is important to continue helping where I can.
These challenges have made me stronger and more determined to succeed. They have taught me how to stay focused, be responsible, and keep moving forward even when things are not easy. They also helped me understand that adversity is not something that stops you, but something that shapes you into a stronger person.
As I move forward into college, I plan to continue working toward my goal of becoming an athletic trainer. I want to gain the education and experience needed to make a difference in people’s lives. I also plan to continue giving back to my community and supporting others, just like I have done throughout high school.
Overall, my experiences have shown me that challenges are a part of life, but they do not define you. What matters is how you respond to them. I plan to use everything I have learned to build a future where I can not only succeed in my career, but also make a positive impact on others.

Losing my sister Tanayla Clifford at just four months old is something that has shaped my life in ways I am still learning to understand. Even though I was very young when she passed, her absence has always been present in my life. Growing up, I didn’t just learn about her through stories—I felt the impact of her loss in my family, in the quiet moments, and in the strength my mother carried every day.
As I got older, I began to understand what that loss truly meant. My sister was not just a memory—she was part of my identity. Knowing that I had a sibling who never got the chance to grow up made me more aware of how fragile life is. It also made me more appreciative of the time I have and the opportunities in front of me. I carry her with me in everything I do.
Watching my family, especially my mom, navigate grief taught me resilience at a young age. I saw what it meant to continue moving forward even when something so important was missing. That kind of strength is not something you can learn in a classroom—it is something you witness and carry with you. It showed me that even through pain, there is still purpose.
Over time, I have turned that experience into motivation. Instead of letting loss define me in a negative way, I use it as a reminder to live with intention. I focus on doing my best in school, working toward my goals, and becoming someone my sister would be proud of. I think about the life she didn’t get to have, and it pushes me to make the most of mine.
This loss has also made me more compassionate toward others. I understand that everyone carries things you cannot always see. Whether it is grief, stress, or personal challenges, I try to show up for people with kindness and understanding. My experiences have taught me that even small acts of support can make a difference.
As I prepare for college, I plan to study kinesiology and pursue a career in sports medicine or healthcare. I want to help people recover, grow stronger, and continue forward, especially when they are facing physical or emotional challenges. My sister’s story is part of the reason I want to help others—because I understand how important care, support, and strength can be during difficult times.
Receiving this scholarship would help me continue my education and move closer to achieving my goals. More importantly, it would allow me to carry my sister’s memory forward in a meaningful way. Everything I accomplish is not just for me, but also for her.
Tanayla may have only been here for four months, but her impact on my life has lasted forever. She is a part of who I am, and she will continue to be a source of strength, motivation, and purpose as I move forward into the future.
Prince Justice Memorial Scholarship
I may not live with sickle cell disease myself, but I have grown up witnessing how serious health conditions impact individuals, families, and entire communities. Living and volunteering on the Pine Ridge Reservation during COVID showed me how health challenges can shape daily life in ways many people never see. Access to care, emotional support, and basic resources were not always guaranteed, and I saw firsthand how important strength, resilience, and community are when facing illness.
During the pandemic, I volunteered in a community garden that helped provide food to families in need. At the same time, I helped cook meals for families during times of loss and hardship. Those experiences opened my eyes to how deeply health struggles affect more than just one person—they affect entire families and communities. Whether someone is living with a condition like sickle cell disease or facing another serious illness, the emotional and physical toll is something that requires both inner strength and external support.
Through these experiences, I learned the importance of showing up for others, even in small ways. Handing out food, helping prepare meals, or simply being present taught me that healing is not just medical—it is also emotional and communal. I saw people continue to push forward despite pain, loss, and uncertainty. That resilience became a source of inspiration for me.
These experiences have shaped my future goals. I plan to study kinesiology and pursue a career in sports medicine or healthcare, where I can help people recover physically while also supporting their overall well-being. I want to work with individuals who are facing physical challenges, whether from injury, chronic illness, or conditions like sickle cell disease, and help them regain strength, confidence, and independence.
What inspires me most is the strength I have seen in others. Even in difficult circumstances, people continue to move forward, care for their families, and strive for a better future. That mindset drives me to stay focused on my own goals, even when things feel overwhelming. I have learned that perseverance is not about having an easy path—it is about continuing despite the obstacles.
My journey has taught me empathy, responsibility, and determination. While I may not personally live with sickle cell disease, I carry with me the lessons learned from witnessing health struggles in my community. Those lessons continue to guide me as I work toward a future where I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

My understanding of mental health has grown over time, not from a single moment, but through a series of experiences that have shaped how I see myself, my relationships, and the world around me. What I’ve learned is that mental health is not something separate from daily life—it is part of everything we do, from how we handle stress to how we connect with others and plan for our future.
As a high school student preparing for college, I’ve experienced the pressure that comes with trying to balance academics, responsibilities at home, and uncertainty about what comes next. There have been times when everything felt overwhelming at once—deadlines, expectations, and the feeling of needing to have everything figured out. On top of that, I have grown up in a household where I’ve watched my mom take on everything as a single parent. Seeing her carry so much responsibility has had a major impact on me.
Watching her navigate stress, work, finances, and life in general made me realize how deeply mental health can affect a person, even if they don’t show it outwardly. It also made me more aware of my own emotions. There were moments when I felt pressure not just for myself, but for her as well. I didn’t want to add to what she was already dealing with, so I started to take on more responsibility and became more conscious of how I handled stress.
These experiences shaped my goals in a meaningful way. Instead of allowing pressure to discourage me, I used it as motivation to stay focused on my education and my future. I learned that while stress is unavoidable, how you respond to it matters. I began to stay more organized, manage my time better, and remind myself of what I was working toward. My goal is to pursue a career in healthcare, where I can help others not only physically, but also emotionally. Understanding mental health has made me realize how important it is to treat people as whole individuals, not just their symptoms.
Mental health has also shaped my relationships. I’ve become more patient, more understanding, and more aware of what others may be going through. I’ve learned that people don’t always express when they are struggling, and that sometimes the best thing you can do is simply be there for someone. Whether it’s listening to a friend, supporting my family, or just being present, I try to approach relationships with empathy.
At home, my relationship with my mom has grown stronger because of what we’ve gone through. We have learned to support each other in different ways. I’ve seen her strength, and she has seen me step up and become more responsible. That mutual understanding has created a bond where we rely on each other, not just as parent and child, but as a team working toward a better future.
My understanding of the world has also changed because of my experiences with mental health. I have come to realize that many people are dealing with challenges that aren’t visible. It’s easy to assume that someone is fine based on what you see, but in reality, they could be struggling internally. This has made me more aware and more compassionate. I no longer see the world in a simple or surface-level way. Instead, I recognize that everyone has their own story, and that kindness and understanding can go a long way.
I also believe that mental health should be talked about more openly. There is still a stigma around it that makes people feel like they have to hide what they’re going through. I want to be part of changing that. Whether it’s through my future career or how I interact with others, I want to help create an environment where people feel comfortable speaking up and getting support.
Through everything I’ve experienced, I’ve learned that taking care of your mental health is not a weakness—it’s a strength. It takes awareness, effort, and sometimes courage to face what you’re feeling and continue moving forward. I’ve also learned that growth comes from those challenges. They shape who you are and how you approach life.
As I move forward into college and beyond, I will carry these lessons with me. My experiences have given me a deeper understanding of myself, strengthened my relationships, and shaped my goals in a way that is meaningful and purposeful. I want to continue growing, learning, and helping others, especially in ways that support both physical and mental well-being.
Mental health has not only influenced my journey—it has helped define the person I am becoming. And because of that, I am more prepared to face the future with resilience, compassion, and a clear sense of purpose.
Minority Single Mother Scholarship
Being a single mother while pursuing education is one of the most challenging and meaningful journeys I have experienced. Every day, I balance responsibilities that go far beyond myself—providing stability, guidance, and support for my child while also trying to build a better future through education.
The most challenging part of this journey has been carrying everything on my own. Financial responsibilities, work, managing a household, and ensuring my child has what she needs all fall on me. There are moments when it feels overwhelming, especially when unexpected situations arise or when I am faced with important deadlines for school, financial aid, or life in general. There is no one else to fall back on, which means I have had to become stronger, more organized, and more resilient than I ever imagined.
Despite these challenges, this journey has also been deeply fulfilling. Knowing that I am creating opportunities not just for myself but for my child gives everything I do a greater purpose. I want her to see what perseverance looks like. I want her to understand that even when life is difficult, you keep going. Being able to model strength, independence, and determination for her is one of the most rewarding parts of this experience.
One of the most meaningful aspects of this journey has been watching my child grow alongside me. She has stepped up in ways that show maturity and understanding beyond her years. Seeing her take responsibility and stay focused on her own goals reminds me that everything I am doing is making a difference. We have learned to support each other as a team, and that has brought us closer.
Pursuing further education is not just about personal achievement for me—it is about creating long-term stability and breaking cycles. I want to be able to provide a life where financial stress is not a constant concern, where opportunities are accessible, and where my child can focus fully on her future without limitations. Education is the path that will allow me to achieve that.
My goal is to build a career that provides both stability and the ability to give back. I want to be in a position where I can help others who may be facing similar struggles, whether that is through guidance, support, or simply showing that it is possible to overcome difficult circumstances.
Receiving this scholarship would help relieve some of the financial pressure that comes with pursuing education while raising a child. It would allow me to focus more on my goals and less on the constant stress of balancing every expense. More importantly, it would be a recognition of the effort and determination it takes to continue moving forward despite challenges.
This journey has not been easy, but it has shaped me into someone stronger, more determined, and more focused than ever before. I am not just pursuing education for myself—I am building a future for my family, and that is what keeps me going every single day.

Faith has played an important role in my life, not just in a religious sense, but as something that has helped guide me through challenges and uncertainty. To me, faith means believing that things will work out even when they feel overwhelming, and trusting that there is a purpose behind what I am going through.
Over the past few years, my life has not always been easy. I have watched my mom take on the responsibility of everything on her own—working, handling finances, and making sure I stay on track for my future. Seeing her push through difficult moments without giving up has strengthened my own faith, not only in God, but in resilience, perseverance, and the importance of staying grounded during hard times. There were moments when things felt uncertain, especially when it came to planning for college, but faith helped me stay focused instead of discouraged.
Faith has also influenced my academic goals by teaching me discipline and purpose. I have learned that success does not come overnight, and that setbacks are part of the journey. Instead of letting challenges define me, I have used them as motivation to keep moving forward. Whether it was maintaining my grades, preparing for my future, or navigating the college application process, I have stayed committed because I believe that my efforts will lead to something greater.
In addition to faith, my biggest motivation to pursue higher education is my family, especially my mom. Watching her work hard every day to create opportunities for me has made me realize that I want to build a better future—not just for myself, but for the people who have supported me along the way. I want to be able to give back, to create stability, and to be someone others can depend on the way she has been for me.
I am planning to pursue a career in healthcare because I want to help others in meaningful ways. I have always been interested in understanding how the body works and how I can make a difference in someone’s life, whether that is through support, care, or education. My faith plays a role in that decision as well, because it has taught me the importance of compassion and service.
Overall, faith has helped shape who I am today. It has given me strength during difficult times, direction when I felt unsure, and motivation to keep going even when things were not easy. Combined with the support of my family, it continues to push me toward my goals and remind me why pursuing higher education is so important to me.

Living a life of service does not always mean doing something big or public. For me, it means showing up for others in everyday situations and doing what I can to help, even in small ways. Through my experiences, I have learned that service is about being reliable, supportive, and willing to put others first when they need it.
One of the main ways I embody service is through my involvement in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program. In this role, I help student-athletes during practices and games by assisting with injuries, making sure they are taken care of, and supporting them when they are going through stressful situations. Sometimes athletes are dealing with pressure, injuries, or frustration, and being there for them has shown me how important it is to not only help physically, but also emotionally.
This experience has taught me responsibility and teamwork. I have learned how to stay calm in stressful situations and focus on helping others, even when things are fast-paced or challenging. It has also shown me that service is not about recognition—it’s about making a difference, even if no one notices.
Outside of that, I try to be someone people can depend on. Whether it’s friends, classmates, or teammates, I make an effort to listen and support others. Sometimes service is as simple as being there for someone who needs encouragement or someone to talk to. I’ve learned that those small moments can have a big impact.
My experiences have also shaped how I plan to use my education in the future. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and go into sports medicine. In this career, I will be able to continue helping others by supporting them through injuries and recovery. I want to work with people who may be struggling physically and mentally and help them regain confidence and strength.
Service, to me, means using what I’ve learned to give back. I understand that not everyone has access to proper care or support, and I want to be someone who can help fill that gap. Whether it’s helping athletes recover or supporting individuals who need guidance, I want my career to be focused on helping others improve their lives.
I also believe that service is something that continues to grow over time. The more you learn and experience, the more you are able to give back. My education will allow me to gain the knowledge and skills needed to help people more effectively, but my mindset of wanting to serve others is something I already carry with me.
Overall, I try to embody a life of service by being present, supportive, and willing to help others whenever I can. Through my experiences and future goals, I am committed to continuing that mindset and using my education to make a positive impact on others.

My experience with mental health has had a big impact on how I see myself, how I connect with others, and what I want to do in the future. As a student, I’ve had to learn how to deal with stress, pressure, and moments where things felt overwhelming. Those experiences have changed the way I think and helped me grow into a stronger and more understanding person.
One of the biggest ways mental health has influenced me is in my beliefs. I used to think that you had to handle everything on your own and just push through no matter what. But over time, I realized that ignoring how you feel only makes things harder. I’ve learned that taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. It’s okay to feel stressed or unsure sometimes, and it’s important to recognize that instead of hiding it.
My experiences have also changed how I build relationships with others. Because I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed or stressed, I try to be more understanding and supportive of the people around me. I’ve learned that sometimes people don’t need advice—they just need someone to listen. I try to be that person for my friends, teammates, and classmates. Being someone others feel comfortable talking to is something that has become really important to me.
Being involved in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program has also shaped how I see mental health in relationships. I work with student-athletes during practices and games, and I’ve seen how pressure, injuries, and expectations can affect them mentally. Some athletes struggle silently, and being able to support them has shown me how important it is to check in on people, not just physically but mentally too.
Mental health has also played a big role in shaping my career goals. Because of my experiences, I want to pursue a degree in kinesiology and go into sports medicine. I want to help people who are dealing with injuries and recovery, and I understand that healing is not just physical—it’s also mental. I want to be someone who supports people through both sides of that process.
Going through challenges has also helped me become more resilient. I’ve learned how to stay focused, even when things feel difficult or uncertain. Instead of giving up, I’ve learned how to take things one step at a time and keep moving forward. That mindset is something I will carry with me into college and my future career.
Overall, my experience with mental health has shaped who I am in a positive way. It has changed my beliefs, strengthened my relationships, and helped guide me toward a career where I can help others. I’ve learned that mental health matters, and I want to continue growing while also being someone others can rely on for support.

The idea that people cannot always control what happens to them, but can control how they respond, is one of the most important lessons someone can learn. In the passage from Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, he explains that “You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” This quote means that even though life can be unpredictable and difficult, the way a person chooses to think and react is what truly defines them. I believe the underlying meaning of this passage is that real strength does not come from controlling situations, but from controlling your mindset and how you respond to challenges.
In life, many things happen that are outside of our control. People go through difficult situations, unexpected problems, and moments where things do not go as planned. It can be easy to feel frustrated, overwhelmed, or even defeated when those things happen. However, Marcus Aurelius is explaining that focusing on what we cannot control only makes things harder. Instead, he suggests that we should focus on what we can control, which is our thoughts, our attitude, and our actions.
This idea is especially important for students. High school can be a stressful time, with pressure from school, future plans, and personal situations. Not everything always goes the way we want it to. There can be setbacks, challenges, and moments where things feel uncertain. But learning how to control your mindset during those moments is what helps you keep moving forward.
For me, this idea connects to my own life and experiences. Growing up, I have faced challenges that were outside of my control, especially when it came to stability and having consistent support. There were times when things felt uncertain, and I did not always have the guidance or structure that others might have had. In those moments, it would have been easy to feel discouraged or fall behind.
However, over time, I realized that even though I could not control my situation, I could control how I responded to it. I had a choice to either let those challenges define me or use them as motivation to do better. That shift in mindset made a big difference in my life. Instead of focusing on what I didn’t have, I started focusing on what I could do with what I did have.
One example of this is how I approached school and my future. There were times where things felt overwhelming, especially when thinking about college, responsibilities, and everything I needed to accomplish. But instead of giving up or feeling stuck, I chose to stay focused and keep working toward my goals. Even when things were difficult, I reminded myself that my effort and mindset were things I could control.
Another way this idea has impacted me is through my involvement in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program. Being part of this program has taught me how to stay calm and focused in stressful situations. When student-athletes get injured or are dealing with pressure, there is not always a way to control what is happening in the moment. However, how you respond in that moment matters.
I have learned to stay composed, think clearly, and focus on helping others, even when situations are stressful. This connects directly to the idea in Marcus Aurelius’ quote. I cannot control everything that happens, but I can control how I respond, how I think, and how I support others.
This mindset has also helped me grow as a person. Instead of seeing challenges as something negative, I have started to see them as opportunities to become stronger. Every difficult situation has taught me something new, whether it is patience, responsibility, or resilience. These lessons have helped shape who I am today.
Another important part of this passage is the idea of finding strength. Marcus Aurelius says that once you realize you have control over your mind, you will find strength. This means that strength does not come from having an easy life or avoiding problems. Instead, it comes from learning how to handle challenges and stay strong mentally.
I think this is something a lot of people misunderstand. Many people think strength means never struggling or always having things go your way. But in reality, strength comes from pushing through difficult moments and not giving up. It comes from staying focused on your goals, even when things are not easy.
In today’s world, it is easy to compare yourself to others or feel like you are behind. Social media and other influences can make it seem like everyone else has everything figured out. But the truth is, everyone faces challenges in different ways. What matters most is how you choose to handle your own situation.
For me, understanding this has helped me stay focused on my future. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and go into sports medicine. This career path is important to me because it allows me to help others, especially people who are dealing with injuries or difficult situations. I want to be someone who can support others not just physically, but mentally as well.
The idea of controlling your mindset will continue to be important in my future. In the medical field, there will be situations that are unpredictable and challenging. Not everything will go perfectly, and there will be moments that require patience and resilience. Having the ability to stay calm, focused, and positive will be essential.
This passage also applies to everyday life, not just big challenges. Even small situations can test a person’s mindset. Whether it is dealing with stress, handling responsibilities, or overcoming obstacles, the way you think and respond plays a big role in the outcome.
Overall, the message from Marcus Aurelius is simple but powerful. You cannot control everything that happens in life, but you can control your thoughts and your reactions. That is where real strength comes from. This idea has helped me stay focused, motivated, and determined, even when things have been difficult.
I believe that understanding and applying this mindset can help anyone become stronger and more successful. It teaches you to take responsibility for your actions, stay positive during challenges, and keep moving forward no matter what.
In my own life, this lesson has made a lasting impact. It has helped me grow, stay focused on my goals, and develop the mindset I need to succeed. As I continue my education and move toward my future career, I will carry this lesson with me and continue to apply it in everything I do.
Learner Mental Health Empowerment for Health Students Scholarship
Mental health is important to me as a student because it affects everything—how you think, how you perform in school, and how you handle everyday life. As a high school student, there is a lot of pressure, whether it’s keeping up with grades, thinking about the future, or dealing with personal situations outside of school. I’ve learned that if your mental health isn’t in a good place, it becomes much harder to stay focused and motivated.
Personally, I’ve experienced moments where things felt overwhelming. Balancing school, responsibilities, and planning for my future has not always been easy. There have been times where I felt stressed or unsure about what was next, especially knowing that I have to work hard to create opportunities for myself. Those experiences helped me realize how important it is to take care of your mental health and not ignore how you’re feeling.
One thing that has really helped me is finding something positive to focus on. Being involved in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program has given me a sense of purpose. I work with student-athletes during practices and games, and I’ve seen how much mental health plays a role in performance and recovery. Some athletes deal with pressure, injuries, or stress, and being there to support them has shown me how important it is to check in on others, not just physically but mentally too.
In my community, I advocate for mental health in simple but meaningful ways. I try to be someone people can talk to without feeling judged. Sometimes just listening to someone can make a big difference. I also try to remind my peers that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes and that asking for help is not a weakness. A lot of students feel like they have to handle everything on their own, but that’s not always the best way to deal with things.
At home and in school, I’ve learned to manage stress by staying focused on my goals and reminding myself why I’m working so hard. I also try to keep a positive mindset, even when things are difficult. It’s not always easy, but I’ve learned that taking small steps and staying consistent can help you get through tough times.
Mental health is something that should be talked about more, especially for students. Many people are dealing with things that others don’t see, and having support can make a huge difference. I believe that creating a supportive environment where people feel comfortable speaking up is very important.
In the future, as I pursue a career in kinesiology and sports medicine, I want to continue supporting others not just physically, but mentally as well. I want to help people feel encouraged, understood, and supported during difficult times.
Overall, mental health is important to me because I’ve seen how much it impacts daily life. It’s something that deserves attention, understanding, and support, and I want to be part of creating that kind of environment for others.

A significant loss in my life has not just been losing a person, but losing the kind of support and stability that a lot of people grow up with. Not having a consistent parent in my life has affected me in ways I didn’t fully understand when I was younger, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how much it has shaped who I am today.
Growing up, there were a lot of times where I had to figure things out on my own. I didn’t always have someone there to guide me, check on me, or push me the way some of my friends did. Seeing others have that kind of support sometimes made me feel like I was missing something important. It wasn’t always easy, and there were moments where I felt frustrated or unsure of myself.
But over time, I realized I had two choices: I could let that hold me back, or I could use it as motivation. I chose to push myself. I learned how to become more independent and responsible because I didn’t really have another option. Instead of waiting for support, I started becoming my own motivation.
There were definitely times where things felt overwhelming, especially balancing school, responsibilities, and thinking about my future. Sometimes I felt like I had more pressure on me than others my age. But those moments taught me how to stay focused and keep going, even when things weren’t easy or perfect.
One of the biggest things that helped me find direction was being involved in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program. Being able to help student-athletes during practices and games gave me a sense of purpose. It made me realize that even though I’ve gone through challenges, I can still show up for other people and make a difference.
That experience really changed how I see things. I don’t look at my situation as something negative anymore. Instead, I see it as something that made me stronger. It taught me how to handle stress, stay calm, and keep moving forward even when things feel uncertain.
Because of what I’ve been through, I want to help others in the future. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and go into sports medicine. I want to work with people who are injured or struggling and help them recover, not just physically but mentally too. I know how important it is to feel supported, and I want to be that person for someone else.
The loss I’ve experienced has definitely shaped my life, but it hasn’t stopped me. If anything, it’s pushed me to work harder and stay focused on my goals. I’ve learned that even if you don’t start with everything, you can still build something for yourself.
I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m determined to keep going. My experiences have taught me that loss doesn’t have to define you—it can actually push you to become stronger and more focused on the future you want.

The loss of a parent does not always mean physically losing them. For me, it has meant growing up without the consistent presence, support, and guidance that many people take for granted. Not having that kind of stability has affected my life in many ways, but it has also shaped me into a stronger and more independent person.
Growing up, I learned early on that I could not always rely on both parents for support. There were times when I felt like I had to figure things out on my own or rely more heavily on the parent who was present. This created challenges, especially when it came to school, planning for my future, and dealing with stress. Watching others have that full support system sometimes made me feel like I was missing something important.
At the same time, this experience pushed me to grow up faster and become more responsible. I learned how to stay focused on my goals even when things felt uncertain. Instead of letting that absence define me in a negative way, I used it as motivation to work harder and create a better future for myself.
There were moments where it was difficult emotionally, especially when I needed guidance or encouragement. During those times, I had to learn how to build strength within myself and find support in other areas of my life. I leaned on the people who were there for me and focused on what I could control instead of what I could not change.
One of the ways I found direction and purpose was through my involvement in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program. Being able to help others, especially student-athletes, gave me a sense of purpose and helped me stay focused. It reminded me that even though I have faced challenges, I still have the ability to make a positive impact on others.
This experience has changed how I view life. I have learned that not everyone starts with the same advantages, but that does not determine where you will end up. It has taught me resilience, independence, and the importance of staying determined even when things are difficult. I have also learned to appreciate the support I do have and not take it for granted.
Looking toward the future, I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and go into sports medicine. I want to help people recover from injuries and feel supported, especially those who may not have strong support systems in their own lives. My experiences have given me a deeper understanding of how important support and care are, and I want to be able to provide that for others.
Although growing up without consistent support from a parent has been challenging, it has also made me stronger. It has shaped my work ethic, my mindset, and my determination to succeed. I am committed to continuing my education, reaching my goals, and building a future that reflects everything I have learned from these experiences.

Faith has played an important role in my life, especially during times when things felt uncertain or overwhelming. Growing up in a situation where not everything was easy, I have had to face challenges that tested my strength and mindset. During those moments, my faith gave me a sense of peace and helped me stay grounded. It reminded me that even when things are difficult, there is still a purpose and a path forward.
There have been times when I felt stressed about my future, finances, and responsibilities, but my faith helped me stay focused and not give up. Instead of letting those feelings take over, I learned to trust that things would work out if I continued to put in effort and stay committed to my goals. My faith has taught me patience, perseverance, and the importance of believing in something greater than myself.
It has also helped shape the way I treat others. I try to be someone who shows kindness, support, and understanding, especially when people are going through difficult situations. I believe that small actions, like encouraging someone or being there when they need help, can make a big difference. This mindset is something I carry with me in my daily life and in my future goals.
My faith also connects to the career path I want to pursue. I plan to go into kinesiology and sports medicine, where I can help people recover from injuries and stay healthy. In this field, it’s not just about physical healing, but also about supporting people emotionally and helping them stay motivated during recovery. My faith has taught me to be patient and compassionate, which are important qualities when working with others.
In addition, my faith gives me a sense of purpose in what I want to do. I don’t just want a career for myself — I want to make a positive impact on others. I want to be someone who people can trust, depend on, and feel supported by. Whether it’s helping someone get back on their feet after an injury or encouraging them during a tough time, I want to use my career to make a difference.
As I continue my education, I know there will be challenges, but my faith will continue to guide me. It will remind me to stay strong, stay focused, and keep moving forward even when things are not easy. It also helps me stay grounded and remember why I started working toward my goals in the first place.
Overall, my faith has helped shape who I am today by giving me strength, direction, and a sense of purpose. It has taught me to keep going through challenges, support others, and stay committed to my future. I believe it will continue to guide me as I work toward my career and help me make a positive impact in the lives of others.

One time I faced a lot of adversity was growing up in a situation where things were not always stable, especially financially. Being in a low-income, single-parent household meant there were times when things felt uncertain and stressful. I didn’t always have access to the same resources or opportunities as other students, and it sometimes felt like I had to work harder just to stay on track. At first, it was frustrating and overwhelming, and I didn’t fully understand why things had to be so difficult.
Over time, though, my perspective started to change. Instead of seeing my situation as something that was holding me back, I began to see it as something that was pushing me to become stronger and more independent. I realized that even though I couldn’t control everything around me, I could control how I responded to it. That shift in mindset made a big difference in how I handled challenges.
My plan of action was to stay focused on my goals and not let my circumstances define me. I made it a priority to stay committed to school, manage my time better, and take advantage of the opportunities that were available to me. I also learned to be more responsible and disciplined, knowing that my future depended on the effort I put in now. Even when things felt overwhelming, I kept reminding myself that what I was working toward would be worth it.
One of the ways I stayed focused was by getting involved in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program. That experience gave me a sense of purpose and direction. Being able to help student-athletes during practices and games showed me that I enjoy supporting others and being part of something meaningful. It also helped me build confidence in myself and my abilities.

Because of these experiences, I am more prepared to handle whatever comes next and continue working toward my goals.
Women in STEM Scholarship
STEM is important because it plays a major role in improving everyday life, from healthcare to technology. However, women have not always been equally represented in these fields. That is why it is important to build a community of women in STEM who are confident, curious, and ready to make a difference. When more women are involved, it brings new ideas, perspectives, and solutions that can benefit everyone.
My interest in STEM comes from my passion for helping others, especially through health and science. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and go into sports medicine. Through my high school’s athletic training program, I have had the opportunity to work with student-athletes during practices and games. This experience has helped me realize how much I enjoy being in a position where I can support others, help them recover, and make a real impact on their lives.
Being part of this program has also helped me grow in confidence. At first, it was intimidating stepping into a role where I had to be responsible for helping others, but over time I became more comfortable and capable. I learned how to stay calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and work as part of a team. These are skills that are important not only in STEM careers but in life overall.
As a young woman interested in a STEM field, I understand the importance of representation. When you don’t always see women in certain careers, it can make those paths feel harder to reach. But being involved in my program and gaining hands-on experience has shown me that I belong in this field. It has motivated me to keep working toward my goals and to prove to myself that I can succeed.
I have also faced challenges growing up that have shaped my determination. Coming from a background where things were not always easy has taught me how to stay focused and push forward even when things feel overwhelming. These experiences have made me more responsible and motivated to build a better future for myself.
In the future, I want to use my education to help people stay healthy, recover from injuries, and feel supported. I am especially interested in helping people who may not always have access to proper care or resources. I want to make a difference by being someone who not only works in a STEM field but also gives back to the community.
Being a woman in STEM means being part of a movement that is growing and creating change. It means helping open doors for others and showing that women can succeed in these fields. I want to be part of that change and inspire others to believe in themselves and their abilities.
Overall, I am motivated to pursue a career in STEM because it allows me to combine my passion for helping others with my interest in science. I am committed to continuing my education, growing in my field, and making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Growing up in the inner city has shaped who I am and how I see the world. It has taught me how to be strong, independent, and focused, even when things around me were not always easy. While there are opportunities, there are also challenges that can make it harder to stay on track if you don’t stay determined.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is growing up in a low-income household with limited resources. There were times when things felt uncertain, and I had to learn how to stay focused on my goals even when life felt overwhelming. I’ve had to be responsible at a young age and understand that nothing would be handed to me. Instead of letting those challenges hold me back, I used them as motivation to push myself harder and stay focused on building a better future.
Another challenge has been not always having the same opportunities or access as others. Sometimes it can feel like you have to work twice as hard just to keep up or be recognized. There were moments where things felt unfair, but I’ve learned not to compare my journey to others. Instead, I’ve focused on what I can control and how I can continue improving myself. These experiences have taught me resilience and how to keep going even when things don’t go as planned.
Despite these challenges, I have stayed committed to my education and my goals. I am involved in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program, where I help student-athletes during practices and games. This experience has given me a clear direction for my future and showed me how much I enjoy helping others. It has also taught me important skills like responsibility, teamwork, communication, and staying calm under pressure.
Through everything I’ve been through, I’ve learned that challenges don’t define who you are — it’s how you respond to them that matters. I’ve chosen to stay focused, keep moving forward, and use my experiences as motivation instead of letting them hold me back. These challenges have helped me grow into someone who is determined, hardworking, and ready to take the next step in life.
In the future, I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and go into sports medicine. I want to help people recover from injuries, stay healthy, and feel supported, especially those who may not always have access to proper care. I also want to give back to communities like mine by being someone others can look up to and learn from. I understand what it feels like to face challenges, and I want to use that understanding to help others.
Growing up in the inner city hasn’t always been easy, but it has made me stronger and more prepared for the future. It has taught me how to overcome obstacles, stay focused, and believe in myself even when things are difficult. I am proud of where I come from, and I am determined to use my experiences to create a better future for myself and to make a positive impact on others.

Diverse representation in STEM careers is important because it brings different perspectives and experiences together to solve real problems. STEM fields affect people from all backgrounds, so it’s important that the people working in those fields reflect the communities they serve. When there is more diversity, there are more ideas, better understanding, and stronger solutions.
I plan to pursue a career in kinesiology and sports medicine, which is part of the health science field. Through my experience in my high school’s athletic training program, I’ve seen how important it is to understand the people you’re helping. Every athlete is different, and not everyone has the same access to care or support. Being able to connect with people and understand where they come from can make a big difference in how well you help them.
Representation also matters because it shows students like me that these careers are possible. When you don’t see people who come from a similar background, it can feel like certain careers aren’t meant for you. But when you do see someone like you succeed, it makes those goals feel more real and achievable. That kind of representation can give people the confidence to go after opportunities they might not have believed in before.
Coming from a background where things haven’t always been easy has motivated me to work harder for my future. I’ve learned how to stay focused and keep going even when things feel overwhelming. That’s one of the reasons I want to go into a field where I can help others. I want to be someone who not only succeeds, but also supports and encourages others along the way.
In the future, I want to use my education to help people stay healthy, recover from injuries, and feel supported. I also want to give back to communities that may not always have access to proper care. Being part of a diverse group in STEM means I can help make that field more inclusive and more connected to the people it serves.
Diversity in STEM also helps create trust between professionals and the people they serve. When individuals feel understood and respected, they are more likely to seek help and follow through with care. This is especially important in healthcare-related fields like sports medicine, where communication and trust can directly impact recovery and overall well-being.
Overall, diverse representation in STEM is important because it creates more opportunities, better outcomes, and stronger communities. It helps people feel seen, supported, and capable of making a difference.

Dream BIG, Rise HIGHER Scholarship
Education has been one of the most important influences in shaping my goals and giving me a sense of direction for my future. Throughout high school, I have learned that education is not just about what you learn in the classroom, but about how you grow as a person, how you respond to challenges, and how you use those experiences to build a better future for yourself and others.
One of the biggest challenges I have faced has been balancing school with personal and financial stress at home. There have been times when things felt uncertain, and it would have been easy to lose focus or fall behind. Instead of allowing those challenges to define me, I made the decision to keep going. I learned how to manage my time, stay disciplined, and continue working toward my goals even when things felt overwhelming.
These experiences pushed me to grow up faster and become more independent. I had to learn how to take responsibility for my future and make decisions that would help me move forward. There were moments when I doubted myself, especially when I felt like I was carrying more than most students my age. However, those challenges also helped me discover my strength and determination. They taught me that even when situations are difficult, I have the ability to keep going and push through.
Education gave me a sense of purpose during those times. It became something I could rely on, something that reminded me that my future is still in my control. Through school, I found direction and motivation, especially when I became involved in my athletic training and sports medicine program. That experience changed everything for me.
Being part of the sports medicine program allowed me to step into a role where I could help others directly. I assisted student-athletes during practices and games, helping with injury care, preparation, and support. There were moments when athletes depended on me to stay calm and focused, especially when they were injured. Those experiences showed me that what I do can make a real difference in someone’s life.
Through that program, I discovered my passion for helping others through health and movement. I realized that I want a career where I can combine science and care to support people in meaningful ways. That is why I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and continue into a career in sports medicine.
One of the ways education has shaped my sense of direction is by giving me the confidence to see myself in a career where I can truly make a difference. Before high school, I did not have a clear vision of what I wanted to do, but being exposed to new opportunities helped me realize that my future could be something meaningful. Through my classes and especially my involvement in sports medicine, I began to understand how my interests could turn into a career that helps others. That realization gave me motivation to take my education more seriously and to start thinking long-term about my goals.
Another challenge I have faced is learning how to stay motivated even when I feel tired or overwhelmed. Balancing responsibilities, school, and planning for my future has not always been easy. There have been days where it felt like too much, but I have learned how to push through those moments. I remind myself why I started and what I am working toward. This mindset has helped me build resilience and has prepared me for the next stage of my life. I know that college will bring new challenges, but I also know that I am capable of handling them because of what I have already overcome.
In addition, education has helped me develop important life skills that go beyond academics. I have learned how to communicate with others, work as part of a team, and take initiative when needed. These skills have been especially important in my experience working with athletes, where trust and communication are essential. Being able to support others in a real-life setting has shown me that learning is not just about information, but about how you apply it in meaningful ways.
My goal is not only to help individuals recover from injuries, but also to promote long-term health and prevention. I want to be someone who helps people understand their bodies, take care of themselves, and stay active. I also want to work with communities that may not have easy access to proper care and provide support where it is needed most.
The challenges I have faced have shaped how I view my future. They have made me more determined to succeed and more motivated to create opportunities for myself. I have learned that setbacks do not mean failure, and that growth comes from continuing to move forward even when things are not easy.
Higher education will allow me to continue building on what I have started. It will give me the knowledge, skills, and experience I need to turn my passion into a career. More importantly, it will give me the opportunity to create a better future not only for myself, but for others as well.
I want to be someone who makes a positive impact, someone who helps others feel supported, and someone who uses their experiences to uplift others. My journey has not been perfect, but it has made me stronger, more focused, and more prepared for what comes next.
Education has given me direction, but it is my determination and experiences that have shaped my purpose. I am committed to continuing my growth, achieving my goals, and using everything I have learned to make a difference in the lives of others.

I want to pursue a career in STEM because I am passionate about understanding how the human body works and using that knowledge to help others improve their health and performance. Through my experience in my high school’s athletic training and sports medicine program, I have developed a strong interest in kinesiology, which is the scientific study of human movement. This field combines science, health, and hands-on care, allowing me to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
STEM is not just about technology or engineering—it also includes health sciences, where scientific knowledge is used to improve the well-being of individuals and communities. In sports medicine, I have learned how biology, anatomy, and physiology all play a role in preventing injuries and helping people recover. Being able to apply science in real-life situations has shown me how powerful STEM can be when it is used to support others.
One of the reasons I am drawn to this field is because I have seen firsthand how access to proper care can make a difference. During my time assisting with athletes at my school, I have seen how injuries can impact not only performance but also confidence and overall well-being. When athletes receive the right care and guidance, they are able to recover faster and return stronger. This has inspired me to pursue a career where I can be part of that process and help others stay active and healthy.
As I continue my education, I plan to earn a degree in kinesiology and pursue a career in sports medicine. Through this path, I will use STEM to help individuals prevent injuries, recover safely, and maintain long-term health. I also want to focus on bringing these resources to communities that may not have easy access to proper care. Not everyone has access to athletic trainers or health education, and I want to help close that gap.
Uplifting my community is an important part of my future goals. I want to not only provide care, but also educate others on how to take care of their bodies. This could include teaching proper techniques, promoting injury prevention, and helping individuals understand how their daily habits impact their health. By combining science with education and community involvement, I believe I can make a lasting difference.
Being a part of STEM as a person of color is also important to me because representation matters. I want to show others that there are opportunities in health sciences and that careers in STEM are not limited to one path. By pursuing my goals, I hope to inspire others to explore careers where they can use science to help people and improve their communities.
Overall, pursuing a career in STEM through kinesiology and sports medicine will allow me to turn my passion into a purpose. It will give me the tools to help others, make a positive impact, and contribute to a healthier and stronger community.

One problem I have seen firsthand is that many student-athletes do not have immediate access to proper injury care, especially during practices and school events. Through my experience in my high school’s athletic training and sports medicine program, I have seen how small injuries can turn into bigger problems simply because athletes do not receive the right attention at the right time. This inspired me to think about ways to improve access to care for students like me and my peers.
To help solve this problem, I would create a mobile sports medicine support program designed specifically for high school athletes. The goal of this program would be to provide basic injury prevention, evaluation, and recovery support directly at schools and community sports events. Many schools, especially those with limited resources, do not always have consistent access to athletic trainers or proper equipment. This program would help fill that gap.
If I had the money and resources, my plan would begin with building a small team of trained individuals, including certified athletic trainers and students pursuing sports medicine. We would partner with local schools and community programs to schedule regular visits during practices, games, and training sessions. The program would include basic services such as injury assessments, taping, stretching guidance, and education on injury prevention.
In addition, I would develop workshops for athletes to learn how to take care of their bodies, recognize early signs of injury, and understand the importance of recovery. Education is a key part of prevention, and many athletes do not realize how much their daily habits impact their performance and health.
Another important part of the plan would be creating a simple digital platform or app where athletes could track injuries, receive recovery tips, and connect with support when needed. This would allow athletes to stay informed and take an active role in their own health, even outside of practices and games.
This idea is important to me because I have personally seen how being prepared and having the right support can make a difference. During my time in sports medicine, I have helped athletes during games and practices, and I know how important it is to act quickly and correctly. I want to expand that impact so more students have access to the support they need.
My goal for the future is to pursue a degree in kinesiology and continue into a career in sports medicine. This program would not only help others, but it would also allow me to apply what I am learning in a real-world setting. It reflects my passion for helping people stay active, recover safely, and perform at their best.
Overall, this solution combines my experience, my interests, and my future goals. With the right resources, I believe this program could make a meaningful difference in the lives of student-athletes and help prevent injuries before they become serious problems.

One of the biggest challenges I have faced throughout high school has been learning how to stay focused on my future while dealing with personal and financial stress at home. There were times when things felt uncertain, and it would have been easy to lose motivation or fall behind. Instead, I had to learn how to stay strong, take responsibility, and keep pushing forward even when things were difficult.
Growing up, I realized early that not everything would be handed to me. I had to step up and be more independent than most people my age. Balancing school, work, and responsibilities at home was not always easy, especially when I felt overwhelmed or unsure about what my future would look like. There were moments when I questioned myself and wondered if I was doing enough or if I would be able to reach my goals.
However, those challenges are what shaped me into the person I am today. They taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of not giving up when things get hard. Instead of letting difficult situations define me in a negative way, I chose to use them as motivation to do better. I learned how to manage my time, stay focused on my priorities, and continue working toward my goals even when I didn’t feel like it.
One of the most important things I have gained from these experiences is a strong sense of independence. I have learned how to rely on myself, make responsible decisions, and take control of my future. These are lessons that I know will continue to guide me as I move forward in life.

Throughout my high school experience, one teacher who truly changed how I approach my life is my sports medicine teacher. Before I joined the athletic training program, I was unsure about what I wanted to do in the future and didn’t fully believe in my own abilities. I showed up, did what I needed to do, and went home. I didn’t think I had something special to offer.
That changed when I met my teacher.
From the very beginning, they saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. Instead of just treating me like another student, they pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone. Whether it was learning how to tape an ankle correctly, understanding injuries, or being responsible on the sidelines during games, they trusted me with real responsibilities. That trust meant everything to me.
There were times when I doubted myself or felt overwhelmed, especially balancing school, responsibilities at home, and my future plans. But my teacher never let me settle for less than my potential. They reminded me that growth doesn’t come from staying comfortable—it comes from showing up, even when it’s hard.
One moment that really stayed with me was during a game when I had to step in and help an injured athlete. I was nervous and second-guessing myself, but my teacher stood behind me and calmly guided me through it. Afterward, they told me they were proud of me and that I handled it like someone who belonged in the field. That moment changed how I saw myself. For the first time, I felt capable, confident, and like I had a real purpose.
Because of their influence, I discovered my passion for helping others through sports medicine. I learned that being part of something bigger than myself—supporting athletes, staying calm under pressure, and being reliable—was something I truly valued. It also helped shape my future goals. I now plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and continue working toward a career where I can make a difference in people’s lives.
More than anything, my teacher taught me discipline, confidence, and the importance of believing in myself even when things feel uncertain. They didn’t just teach me skills for a class—they helped me grow into a stronger, more focused person.
Their impact on my life is something I will carry with me long after high school, and it’s a big part of why I am motivated to continue my education and pursue my goals.

My Special Education program has played a major role in shaping who I am today, both academically and personally. Being part of this program taught me that everyone learns differently, and that needing extra support does not make someone less capable. Instead, it showed me that with patience, determination, and the right encouragement, I can overcome challenges and succeed. Over time, I developed resilience, confidence, and a stronger belief in myself. These experiences inspired me to pursue college and continue growing, not just as a student, but as a person.
At times, being in Special Education was not easy. There were moments when I felt different from others or doubted my abilities. Learning did not always come easily to me, and there were times when I felt overwhelmed trying to keep up. However, my teachers and support staff always believed in me, even when I struggled to believe in myself. Their support helped me realize that asking for help is not a weakness, but a strength. I learned how to better understand how I learn, how to stay organized, and how to keep pushing forward even when things were difficult.
My experience with challenge and difficulty has played a significant role in my life. I have faced moments where I felt like giving up, especially when balancing school, responsibilities, and personal challenges. There were times when everything felt overwhelming, and it would have been easier to quit. But instead, I chose to keep going. I stayed after school for extra help, put in more time studying, and remained focused on my goals. Those experiences taught me that growth comes from effort, consistency, and not giving up when things get hard.
One of the most important lessons I have learned is how to advocate for myself. Whether it was asking questions in class, requesting extra support, or speaking up when I needed help, I learned to take control of my own success. This skill has helped me become more confident and independent, and I know it will continue to help me as I transition into college, where I will need to rely on myself even more.
In addition to my academic journey, being involved in athletics has helped me grow in many ways. Playing sports has taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to stay focused under pressure. Whether I was practicing, competing, or supporting my teammates, I learned that success takes effort both on and off the court. There were times when I had to push myself physically and mentally, but those moments helped build my confidence and determination. Sports have shown me the importance of staying committed, even when things are challenging.
These experiences have influenced my decision to pursue a degree in kinesiology, with the goal of working in sports medicine or athletic training. I want to help others the way I have been helped throughout my life. I understand what it feels like to struggle and need support, and I want to be someone who encourages others to keep going. Whether I am helping an athlete recover from an injury or supporting someone through their own challenges, I want to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
Another important part of my journey has been learning how to handle challenges outside of school. Life experiences and responsibilities have taught me how to stay strong and focused, even when things are not easy. I have learned how to manage my time, stay motivated, and continue working toward my goals no matter what obstacles come my way. These experiences have helped shape my mindset and have made me more prepared for the future.
Looking ahead, I know that college will come with new challenges, but I also know that I am ready for them. My experiences in Special Education and the difficulties I have faced have prepared me to adapt, stay determined, and continue growing. I am not afraid to ask for help, and I am confident in my ability to succeed.
Overall, my journey has not always been easy, but it has made me stronger, more determined, and more prepared for the future. I am proud of how far I have come, and I am motivated to continue pushing myself and achieving my goals. My experiences have taught me that no matter where you start, what matters most is your effort, your mindset, and your willingness to keep going. I am ready to take everything I have learned and use it to build a better future for myself and to make a positive impact on others.

My loved one, Sergeant Aaron General, served in the United States Army and was stationed in multiple locations throughout his service. He was my grandfather, and his sacrifice in the line of duty has had a lasting impact on my life and my family. His service is something I carry with pride, and it has shaped my understanding of strength, resilience, and commitment.
Military service runs deep in my family. My uncle, Larn General, served and retired as a Captain. My aunt, Shyree General, currently serves in the Army Reserve as a nurse, and my cousins also continue that legacy—one serving as a medic and another as an officer in the Army. Their dedication and willingness to serve our country inspire me every day.
Growing up in a family like mine has taught me discipline, perseverance, and the importance of honoring those who came before me. My grandfather’s legacy continues through all of us, and it motivates me to pursue my education and build a future that reflects the strength and sacrifice of my family.
YOU GOT IT GIRL SCHOLARSHIP
Being a “You Got It Girl” means being strong, determined, and willing to keep going even when things are not easy. Throughout my life, I have had to develop those qualities by facing challenges and learning how to push forward no matter what. Growing up in a household that faced financial struggles taught me responsibility at a young age and showed me the importance of working hard for what I want.
One of the biggest ways I have grown is through my involvement in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program. While I may not compete as a traditional athlete, I play an important role in supporting student-athletes. I have spent time assisting with injury care, helping athletes during practices and games, and encouraging them through recovery. This experience has taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to stay calm under pressure.
Even though I am not the one competing on the field, I am still part of the team. I have learned that being an athlete is not just about performance, but also about commitment, resilience, and supporting others. These lessons have helped me build confidence and develop a strong work ethic.
One challenge I have faced is balancing school, responsibilities at home, and preparing for my future. There have been times when it felt overwhelming, but instead of giving up, I learned how to manage my time and stay focused on my goals. This experience helped me grow into a more independent and determined person, and it showed me that I am capable of overcoming obstacles.
Someone I look up to is my mom because she has shown strength and perseverance through difficult situations. She has always continued to move forward, no matter what challenges she faced, and that has inspired me to do the same. Watching her has taught me the importance of resilience and staying strong during tough times.
This scholarship would support my journey by helping me continue my education and focus on my goals without as much financial stress. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer so I can help others recover from injuries and improve their health. With this support, I would be able to focus more on my studies, gain experience, and continue working toward my future career.
Being a student-athlete, or being part of an athletic environment, has taught me the value of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. These are qualities I will carry with me into college and beyond. I plan to continue being involved in athletics through athletic training and supporting others in their journey.
Overall, being a “You Got It Girl” means not giving up, even when things are difficult. It means continuing to grow, support others, and work toward your goals no matter what obstacles you face. I believe I represent these qualities through my experiences, my determination, and my commitment to building a better future for myself.
James Lynn Baker II #BeACoffeeBean Scholarship
Throughout high school, I have worked to make a positive impact in my community by supporting others in ways that are meaningful and consistent. One of the main ways I have done this is through my involvement in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program. In this role, I have had the opportunity to help student-athletes by assisting with injury care, supporting them during recovery, and encouraging them when they feel discouraged.
Although this may seem like a small role, it has made a real difference. Injuries can be physically and emotionally challenging, especially for athletes who are used to being active. By being there to support them, I have helped create a more positive and encouraging environment. I have learned that sometimes making an impact is not about doing something big, but about being consistent and showing up for others when they need it most.
Through this experience, I have also developed leadership skills. I have learned how to communicate effectively, stay calm under pressure, and take initiative without being asked. These skills have allowed me to be someone my peers can rely on, which has strengthened my sense of responsibility and confidence.
In addition to my work in athletic training, my personal experiences have shaped my desire to make a difference. Growing up in a household that faced financial challenges has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to struggle and work toward something better. Because of this, I am motivated to help others who may be going through similar situations and to be someone who contributes positively to my community.
The change my actions have created may not always be visible in a large way, but it can be seen in the people I have supported. Whether it is helping an athlete return to their sport, encouraging someone during a difficult time, or simply being someone others can count on, I believe these actions matter.
In the future, I plan to use my degree in kinesiology to continue making an impact on a larger scale. As an athletic trainer, I will work with individuals to help them recover from injuries, improve their health, and regain confidence. I am especially interested in working with individuals who may not always have access to proper care, because I understand how important support is during difficult times.
I also want to continue being someone who gives back to my community by providing education and support to others. Whether it is teaching people about injury prevention, recovery, or overall health, I want to use my knowledge to create positive change.
Overall, my experiences have shown me that making an impact does not always require big actions. It comes from consistency, dedication, and a willingness to help others. I am committed to continuing this work in the future and using my education to create meaningful change in the lives of others.
Big Picture Scholarship
The movie that has had the greatest impact on my life is The Blind Side. This movie tells the story of someone who faced difficult circumstances but was able to change their life through support, determination, and hard work. Watching this movie made me realize how much a person’s environment and the people around them can influence their future.
One of the biggest lessons I took from The Blind Side is the importance of having someone believe in you. In the movie, the main character was given an opportunity that helped him succeed, and it showed me how powerful support and encouragement can be. This connected to my own life because I have faced challenges growing up, especially with financial struggles, and I understand how important it is to have people who support and guide you.
The movie also taught me that your past does not define your future. No matter where you come from, you can create a better path for yourself if you are willing to work hard and stay focused. This is something I have carried with me throughout high school. Even when things felt overwhelming, I reminded myself that my situation does not limit what I can achieve.
Another reason this movie impacted me is because it showed the importance of helping others. The family in the movie chose to support someone who needed help, and that decision changed his life. This inspired me to think about how I can make a difference in the lives of others. Through my involvement in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program, I have been able to support student-athletes and help them through injuries and recovery. This experience has shown me how important it is to be there for others during difficult times.
Because of this, I have developed a passion for helping people improve their health and confidence. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer so I can continue making a positive impact. I want to work with individuals who may not always have access to proper care and be someone who supports them through challenges.
Overall, The Blind Side has had a strong impact on my life because it taught me about resilience, the importance of support, and the power of helping others. It reminded me that even when life is difficult, there is always an opportunity to grow and create a better future. These lessons have stayed with me and continue to influence my goals and the person I am becoming.
Native Heritage Scholarship
Storytelling has always been an important part of Native American culture because it teaches lessons, shares history, and helps guide future generations. One experience that has shaped who I am is growing up connected to my Native heritage while also learning how to navigate challenges in my everyday life. Even though I did not grow up with everything handed to me, the values from my background have helped me stay strong, focused, and determined.
In my family, I have learned the importance of resilience and perseverance. I have seen how challenges, especially financial ones, can affect opportunities, but I have also seen the strength it takes to keep moving forward. These experiences have taught me not to give up, even when things feel difficult. Instead, I use those challenges as motivation to do better and create a different future for myself.
Another important lesson I have learned from my background is the importance of community. In Native culture, there is a strong focus on supporting one another and not facing struggles alone. I carry that with me in my everyday life by trying to be someone others can rely on. Whether it is helping my peers, supporting my family, or working with student-athletes through my athletic training program, I try to give back in the ways I can.
Being involved in athletic training has also shaped my goals. I have had the opportunity to help student-athletes through injuries and recovery, and I have seen how important it is to have someone there to support you. This experience has inspired me to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer so I can continue helping others improve their health and confidence.
My background has taught me that where you come from does not limit where you can go. Instead, it gives you strength and purpose. I want to use the lessons I have learned to build a better future for myself and also represent my culture in a positive way. I hope to be someone who not only succeeds, but also gives back and helps others overcome their own challenges.
In the future, I want to use my education to support individuals who may not always have access to proper care, especially in underserved communities. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to be healthy, succeed, and feel supported. By combining my education with the values I have learned from my heritage, I hope to make a meaningful impact.
Overall, my Native heritage has shaped my resilience, my goals, and the way I see the world. It has taught me to stay strong, help others, and continue pushing forward no matter what challenges I face. These lessons will continue to guide me as I pursue my education and work toward making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Amber D. Hudson Memorial Scholarship
Nutrition plays an important role in overall health, recovery, and quality of life. Through my experience in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program, I have seen how what people eat can directly affect how their bodies heal, perform, and feel. This has helped me understand that nutrition is not just about food, but about giving the body what it needs to function properly and recover from injuries or illness.
As someone who plans to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer, I want to use my education to help patients and their families understand how nutrition can improve their quality of life. Many people are not fully aware of how their daily choices impact their health, and I want to help educate them in a way that is simple, practical, and realistic.
If awarded this scholarship, I would focus on educating patients by breaking down information into easy-to-understand guidance. For example, instead of using complicated medical terms, I would explain how certain foods can help with energy, recovery, and overall health. I would also emphasize small, manageable changes, such as drinking more water, eating balanced meals, and understanding the importance of nutrients like protein, vitamins, and minerals.
In addition to education, I would focus on supporting patients and their families emotionally. Making lifestyle changes can be difficult, especially when someone is already dealing with a medical condition. I would work to create a supportive environment where patients feel encouraged rather than overwhelmed. By listening to their concerns and understanding their situation, I would help them build habits that are realistic for their daily lives.
My experiences have also shown me that not everyone has equal access to healthy food or medical resources. Because of this, I would make it a priority to provide guidance that fits each individual’s situation. This could include suggesting affordable food options or helping families find resources in their community. I believe that improving quality of life should be possible for everyone, regardless of their circumstances.
Through my work, I hope to make a positive impact by helping people feel stronger, healthier, and more confident. Whether it is helping someone recover from an injury, manage a condition, or simply improve their daily habits, I want to be part of their journey toward better health.
Overall, I believe that education, support, and understanding are key to improving both the quality and quantity of life. By combining my passion for athletic training with knowledge of nutrition, I hope to help patients and their families make informed choices that lead to healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Going to college means more to me than just earning a degree—it represents a chance to change my future and create new opportunities for my family. Growing up, I have seen how financial challenges can affect the choices you are able to make. Because of that, I have always known that I wanted something different for myself and for the generations that come after me.
Earning a college degree would allow me to build a stable career and break cycles that can limit opportunities. It would also show others in my family that it is possible to pursue higher education, even when the path is not always easy. I want to set an example and create a future where success and stability are more attainable for those who come after me.
Personally, a college degree represents hard work, growth, and determination. It is something I am working toward not only for myself, but also for my family who has supported me along the way. There have been times where balancing school, responsibilities at home, and planning for my future felt overwhelming, but those challenges have made me stronger and more focused on my goals.
I am passionate about helping others, which is why I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer. I have learned how to communicate effectively, stay calm under pressure, and be someone others can rely on. It has also helped me confirm that working in a field where I can make a positive impact on others’ lives is what I truly want to do.
I have pursued my passion by staying involved, learning as much as I can, and taking my role seriously. I do not just see it as an activity, but as a step toward my future career. Every experience has helped me grow and prepare for what comes next.
In the future, I hope to use my education to help individuals recover from injuries, stay healthy, and feel confident again. I want to work with people who may not always have access to proper care and make sure they receive the support they need. My goal is to build a career that allows me to give back and make a difference.
Overall, earning a college degree would not only change my life, but also create opportunities for future generations of my family. It represents growth, perseverance, and the chance to build a better future. I am committed to continuing my education and using it to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Being involved in speech and debate has helped me grow not only as a student, but also as a person of faith. Through this experience, I have learned how to communicate clearly, listen to others with respect, and speak with confidence. These skills have prepared me to share my Christian faith in a way that is thoughtful, understanding, and meaningful.
In speech and debate, I have learned how to organize my thoughts, support my ideas, and present them in a way that others can understand. At the same time, I have also learned the importance of listening. In debates, you are not just speaking—you are hearing different perspectives and responding respectfully. This has helped me understand that sharing my faith is not about forcing my beliefs on others, but about having open and respectful conversations.
My Christian faith has taught me values such as compassion, patience, and integrity. Speech and debate has given me the tools to express those values through my words and actions. For example, when discussing difficult or controversial topics, I have learned to stay calm, be respectful, and focus on understanding others rather than just trying to win an argument. This reflects my faith, which encourages me to treat others with kindness and respect.
There have been times when speaking about my beliefs felt challenging, especially in environments where not everyone shares the same views. However, speech and debate has helped me build the confidence to speak honestly while still being respectful. It has shown me that I can stand firm in my beliefs while also creating space for others to share theirs.
In addition, speech and debate has helped me develop leadership skills. I have learned how to speak in front of groups, express my ideas clearly, and represent myself with confidence. These skills are important when sharing my faith because they allow me to communicate in a way that is both clear and respectful. I want others to feel comfortable asking questions and having conversations, and my experience in speech and debate has prepared me for that.
My faith is an important part of who I am, and I believe that my actions should reflect what I believe. Through speech and debate, I have learned that how I speak matters just as much as what I say. I try to be someone who encourages others, listens with understanding, and speaks with honesty.
In the future, I will continue to use the skills I have learned in speech and debate to share my faith in a positive way. Whether it is through conversations, leadership opportunities, or simply how I treat others, I want to be someone who reflects my beliefs through both my words and my actions.
Overall, speech and debate has prepared me to share my Christian faith by teaching me how to communicate effectively, listen respectfully, and speak with confidence. These skills will continue to guide me as I grow and use my voice to make a positive impact.
Williams Foundation Trailblazer Scholarship
Throughout high school, I have been involved in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program, where I have had the opportunity to work closely with student-athletes. While this may not seem like a traditional project at first, it has allowed me to support individuals who are often overlooked when they are injured or struggling, especially those who do not always have access to outside medical care. This experience has helped me realize that even within a school setting, there are underserved groups who need support and attention.
Many student-athletes depend on school programs because they may not have the financial resources to receive consistent medical care outside of school. Because of this, I have taken my role seriously by helping with injury prevention, assisting during practices and games, and supporting athletes through recovery. I have also learned how important it is to be patient and encouraging, especially for athletes who feel frustrated or left behind when they are unable to play.
In addition to my involvement in athletic training, my personal experiences have shaped my understanding of underserved communities. Growing up in a household that faced financial challenges, I have seen firsthand what it is like to not always have access to everything you need. These experiences have made me more aware of others who may be going through similar situations, and they have motivated me to be someone who helps rather than overlooks those struggles.
Because of this, I try to make a positive impact in the ways I can. Whether it is helping an injured athlete stay motivated, offering support to my peers, or simply being someone others can rely on, I focus on creating a supportive environment. I believe that even small actions, like listening or encouraging someone, can make a big difference, especially for people who may not always feel supported.
Through my experiences, I have also learned the importance of taking initiative. I do not wait to be asked to help—I look for ways to step in, support others, and be part of the solution. This mindset has helped me grow both personally and academically, and it has shown me that leadership can come from everyday actions.
These experiences have inspired my future goals. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer so I can continue helping individuals who may not have access to proper care. I want to work in communities where resources are limited and make sure that people receive the support they need to stay healthy and recover from injuries. My goal is to not only build a career, but also to give back and make a meaningful impact.
Being involved in athletic training has shown me that helping underserved populations does not always require a large organization or formal project. Sometimes it starts with showing up, being consistent, and caring about others. I am proud of the role I have taken on so far, and I am committed to continuing this work in the future.

Resilience is something I did not just learn about, but something I have lived through. Growing up, my family faced financial challenges and difficult situations that made life uncertain at times. There were moments when things felt overwhelming, but instead of giving up, I learned how to keep going. Watching my parent continue to work hard no matter what taught me that strength is not about having an easy life, but about pushing through even when things are hard.
Because of these experiences, I have developed a strong sense of determination and responsibility. I have had to balance school, responsibilities at home, and preparing for my future, which has not always been easy. There were times when I felt stressed or unsure, but I stayed focused on my goals. I realized that my situation did not have to define my future. Instead, it could motivate me to work harder and build something better for myself.
I have also demonstrated resilience through my involvement in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program. This experience has shown me what it means to support others who are going through challenges. I have worked with athletes who were injured or discouraged, and I have seen how setbacks can affect both their physical and mental well-being. By encouraging them, helping them stay positive, and being there for them during recovery, I have been able to make a difference in their experience.
Through this, I have learned that resilience is not just about overcoming your own struggles, but also about helping others through theirs. I try to lead by example by staying positive, working hard, and not giving up when things get difficult. I want others to see that no matter what obstacles they face, they can still move forward and achieve their goals.
In the future, I plan to continue using my resilience to inspire others by becoming an athletic trainer. I want to help people recover from injuries, stay healthy, and feel confident in themselves again. Many athletes face moments where they feel discouraged, and I want to be someone who helps them push through those challenges.
My experiences have taught me that resilience builds strength, character, and purpose. I hope that by sharing my story and continuing to support others, I can inspire people to keep going, even when life feels difficult. No matter what challenges come my way, I am determined to keep moving forward and help others do the same.

Growing up, I learned that challenges can either hold you back or push you forward. My family has faced financial struggles and difficult times, but those experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. Watching my parent work hard to provide for our family taught me the value of perseverance, responsibility, and not giving up when things get tough. Instead of letting adversity define me, I used it as motivation to work harder and focus on building a better future.
I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer. Through my involvement in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program, I have had the opportunity to work closely with athletes and learn about injury prevention, recovery, and overall physical health. This experience showed me how important it is to support people not only physically but also emotionally, especially when they are going through setbacks like injuries.
I want to use my education to make a positive impact by helping others stay healthy, recover from injuries, and feel confident in their abilities. Athletes often face both physical and mental challenges, and I want to be someone they can rely on during those difficult times. Being able to help someone return to doing what they love is something that motivates me and gives purpose to my goals.
The trials my family and I have experienced have taught me how to stay strong and focused, even when things are uncertain. Balancing school, responsibilities at home, and preparing for my future has not always been easy, but it has helped me grow. I have learned how to manage my time, stay disciplined, and keep moving forward even when I feel overwhelmed.
As a first-generation college student, I am determined to succeed not only for myself but also for my family. I want to show that no matter where you come from or what challenges you face, you can still achieve your goals with hard work and determination. In the future, I hope to give back by working in communities that may not have access to proper healthcare or sports medicine resources.
My goal is to make a difference by helping others overcome their own challenges, just like I have worked to overcome mine. Through my education and career, I hope to create a positive impact and inspire others to keep pushing forward, no matter what obstacles they face.

Growing up, I learned early that life does not always go as planned. My family has faced financial challenges and instability, and there were times when it felt like everything was uncertain. Instead of letting those situations hold me back, I chose to use them as motivation. These experiences shaped who I am today and influenced my goals for the future. I plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer. Through my involvement in my school’s athletic training and sports medicine program, I have gained hands-on experience working with athletes and learning how to prevent and treat injuries. Being able to help others recover and stay healthy has shown me how meaningful this career can be.
My goal is to use my education to make a positive impact by helping people take care of their physical health and improve their quality of life. I want to be someone who not only helps them heal physically but also supports them mentally during that process. I believe that encouragement and proper care can make a big difference in someone’s confidence and recovery.

In the future, I hope to give back by working in communities that may not have access to proper sports medicine resources. I want to make sure that everyone, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to receive the care and support they need. My education is not just about building a career for myself, but about creating opportunities to help others and make a lasting difference.
