My Mother an Aspiring Nurse
My mother, whom I view as the strongest woman I know, has gone through many unknown misfortunes. Struggles hidden from me, her only child. Unbeknownst to me, She hid everything from me to protect me from going through the struggles she experienced. Who knew my mother has experienced neglect, abuse, homelessness. I’ve heard the same statement over and over “You won’t be like your mother. You will have purpose!” To me, this was an insult. How dare someone tell me I won’t be strong, courageous, driven, selfless, and loving? Why wouldn’t I be like the very person who has helped save many by contributing financially and emotionally? The very person who has given away my college fund to pay her brother’s medical bill when no one else would offer a hand. The very person who gave up her dreams and made sacrifices for the sake of everyone around her. My mother, such a wholesome person who is fit to become the nurse she has always dreamed of. The nurse she has yet to become because she was building a safe environment for her only child and taking care of the very people who degraded her. But I, her only child, will have purpose. I am like my mother, an aspiring nurse.
