Embarking on the journey from Mahindra United World College of India to the United states and eventually to Norway has been very transformative, both personally and emotionally. As a young individual hailing from a middle-class Indian family, the first person to travel abroad for the first time met with a whirlwind of emotions—excitement intermingled with apprehension. The experience of transitioning from a developing country like India to a developed nation was profound. It offered a stark contrast that prompted introspection about the kind of environment I envisioned for myself. While the allure of developed nations was undeniable, I found myself questioning whether the extremes of development truly resonated with my values and aspirations. Norway, with its blend of economic prosperity, cultural richness, and strong familial ties, provided a new perspective. It served as a testament to the possibility of maintaining robust economic growth while cherishing diversity and preserving traditional values. The realization dawned that development need not come at the cost of cultural heritage and familial bonds. Traveling, as a recurring theme throughout these experiences, has been instrumental in shaping my worldview. It has endowed me with the ability to appreciate life's simple pleasures and momentarily escape the pressures of everyday life. Moreover, it has fostered a deep appreciation for diversity and a commitment to its preservation. In the midst of my travels, I couldn't help but notice a disheartening trend—the pervasive influence of Westernization. The homogenization of cultures, the erosion of native languages, and the prioritization of populism have emerged as pressing concerns. In a quest to assimilate into a globalized world, individuals are often abandoning their cultural roots and linguistic heritage. Over the past three years, this realization has prompted introspection and a heightened awareness of the importance of safeguarding cultural diversity. It has become increasingly evident that preserving traditions, languages, and customs is crucial in maintaining the richness of human experience. As globalization continues to exert its influence, it is imperative to resist the tide of populism and celebrate the unique tapestry of cultures that define our world. In conclusion, my journey from Mahindra UWC of India to Norway has been characterized by profound personal growth and introspection. It has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the complexities of development, the significance of cultural preservation, and the value of familial bonds. As I continue to navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world, I am committed to championing diversity and preserving the rich tapestry of human experience.
