I am a mother of 3 boys ages 5, 9, & 10. I also have a live-in grandmother who I care for physically and financially. I am a first-generation college student. I am active in my community. I manage and teach robotics for our county 4-H program. We participate in community service projects as well as livestock projects. My older boys show Brahman heifers. I am an LVN pursuing her BSN with a goal to obtain my DNP. I want to teach nurses as well as work in a clinic/bedside position. I want to impact my community further by being able to provide services to the community through healthcare. Because I am a first-generation college student I feel like I want to take my career to the furthest path, which is the DNP, to show my boys that with perseverance any goal is possible no matter where you came from. I previously worked as an EMT in a 911 setting for 4 years before becoming an LVN. Prior to that I also worked as a CNA for many years. I am currently enrolled in an LVN to BSN program at Aspen University. I work a full-time job, a part-time job, and I am a full-time student.

Bold Giving Scholarship
Giving is such a important part of humanity. As a child I was raised in a family who did not have much therefore as an adult I work hard to instill a thankfulness in my children by participating in acts of service through or church, school, and 4H projects. Every time we donate time or materials I remind my boys how important it is to help those around us. I always tell them that they will never know when they will need to be on the receiving end so important to help others. We always want to give “hand-ups” not “hand-outs”. We donate through food and clothing drives at the school and out church. We just recently donated 6 bags of clothes to the boys home the next town over instead of throwing away clothes that don’t fit anymore. We heard through the church that they were in severe need of boys clothing. I have 3 boys between the ages of 5 and 10 so we downsized their closets and gave away what we could to try and help those who needed it more than we do. It’s really important to me that my boys understand that it is ok to live modestly so that we can help others. They actually had a joyous heart about the things they donated. The reaction of my children was a great reminder how important it is to help your fellow man all the while instilling values that they will hopefully carry with them for a lifetime.
Pettable Pet Lovers Scholarship
Our pet's name is Sweetie Mae. She is a brahman heifer my middle boy Jayden is training for the stock show. Jayden is 9 years old and in this picture taken last month Sweetie Mae is 6 months old. This picture was after a long day of working hard on training and they both were exhausted and laid down together in the pen. This was also the very first-time Sweetie Mae allowed Jayden to lay on her which for them was a special moment.
Mirajur Rahman's Satirical Experiential Essay Scholarship
As a nurse, I can tell you that I have plenty of experience and witnessing things that make me worry about the future of humanity. This whole pandemic I have worked the bedside. I have seen horrific deaths as well as horrific family members. I have dealt with broken staff members who are tired and angry at the system. I have dealt with family members who have no kindness left in them for dealing with the nurses who are exhausting and tired. There are so many of us who continue to get up and continue to fight and continue to work because this was our calling. Mini like myself did not hesitate when it came time to take care of Covid patients. I am a nurse that’s what I decided to do with my life regardless of what was medically wrong with someone it’s my job to take care of them at the risk of myself getting sick or bringing that disease into my home with my children. Some family members were gracious and kind others were horrible to deal with. And I say horrible as in they either did not care enough about their family member or they cared so much that they lashed out at the staff members because they felt helpless. I feel like the whole pandemic has revolved around the different elections. When in reality none of that matters. I don’t care what you believe in whether it’s red or blue it doesn’t matter the way the world treats each other post-pandemic is ridiculous. Because of the lives that we’ve lost during the pandemic society should be more warm and loving to each other. We should realize that everything could be over in an instant, have more gratitude for each other. Some of the best nurses I’ve ever known came down with this virus and one that I cherish dearly lost the battle and her family will never have her again and she still went to work prior to her death because it was the right thing to do without hesitation that selflessness is what I wish I saw more of those around me most people in this culture are so wrapped up in social media and buying the next fanciest thing they don’t stop to think that when you’re dead none of that stuff matters anymore because it’s just stuff you can’t get back the time that you’ve lost and you can’t take any of those things with you so we need to be more giving more caring more excepting of those around us. I wish that I could say that our society is one that will lift up those around them and do their best to help their fellow neighbor from suffering unfortunately as we’ve all learned in the last two years we live in a society where not only will they knock you down they will also stand on top of you if that’s what it takes to have more things.
You Glow Differently When You're Happy Scholarship
I am a mother of 3 boys ages 5, 9, & 10. I am a first-generation college student. My happiest memories are when my boys were born. They are the light of my world and my entire reason for pursuing my education. Second to their birth the day I walked the stage and graduated LVN school, and the day I was accepted to RN school. I know when I graduate RN school I will be able to mark it as one of the happiest days of my life to have earned something I have worked so hard for.

To live a healthy life I choose not to smoke which my entire family does even after my grandfather passed from lung cancer. I stay active between jobs and being on my feet all day. I also choose to eat healthily. I have learned if I eat and cook healthy it sets an example for my boys. They need me around for many years and I won't be able to do that if I was obese.

I was given two main investment tips when I started my 401k by my boss who is my mentor. She said never borrow from your 401K no matter how bad you think you need it. She also told me to never buy stocks because social media says too. She helped me set up a Fidelity account and I put 5% of my check weekly away in stocks and 10% into a 401K. My parents were not financially literate in any sense of the word and I personally have not worked as hard as I have to be broke for my entire life. I personally do not want to work into my 70s and 80s like my grandparents did and parents are doing. I want to make smart choices with what little money I have so that I can enjoy my older years with my family.

Young Women in STEM Scholarship
I am a mother of 3 boys ages 5, 9, & 10. I also have a live-in grandmother who I care for physically and financially. I am a first-generation college student. I am active in my community. I manage and teach lego robotics for our county 4-H program. I am an LVN pursuing her BSN with a goal to obtain my DNP. I want to teach nurses, do research in my field, as well as work in a clinic/bedside position. I work a full-time job during the week, a part-time job on weekends, and I am a full-time student in Aspen's hybrid online program where I attend classes on campus 1-2 times a week and then complete the coursework online the rest of the week. STEM excites me as a woman because I enjoy coding with my 4H kids. I want to give back to my community. Most of the kids in my 4H club would never have access to our robots or any coding systems we use if not for me starting and continuing the 4H club yearly. STEM is vital for small-town kids like me because without it we will not be able to advance ourselves to be competitive with the world as it changes to be more technologically advanced. My greatest challenge has been my education. I do not have parents that could ever afford to go to school, nor pursue it themselves. My dad and My grandparents are all high school dropouts who later in life got GEDs. I am the first in many generations to pursue a degree and I want to pursue it as far as I can. I want to show my boys that no matter where we come from we can still be anything we want as long as we are willing to work harder than everyone around us.
