I enjoy helping people and serving those who are in need and are not blessed with the
opportunities I have had. I especially love working with
the youth by mentoring them through the love of basketball and baseball. When I see them
smile, it puts a smile on my face. That’s when I know I’ve done my job well and that makes
me happy knowing I have made a difference or impacted someone’s life for the better.
I would love to open a sports complex. It would offer lessons for
multiple sports for inner city youths to learn. It would also be a place they can hang out and
stay out of trouble. I would also provide tutoring for various subjects.
I have always had a passion for writing and sports since I was 4 years old. I intend to major
in journalism with emphasis on Sports Broadcasting. Receiving any monetary assistance will help
me with furthering my education and to continue my commitment and dedication to the
community in a new school and city.

I grew up with two amazing parents who were not able to attend college because of finances, however, they are willing to support me in any way possible to make my dreams a reality. They taught and modeled the importance of God and giving. That’s where my love for serving began.
As of date, I have completed over 500 community
service hours and counting. I received The Saigh Foundation Award. This
was presented to me by The St Louis Cardinals for my contributions to The Redbird Rookies Program. I received The Exceptional Neighbor’s Award. This was presented
to me by The St Louis City Soccer Team for my dedication and service to my community.
I was presented The Archbishop May Award in recognition of my diligence and
commitment of service to my community. I was presented The Missouri State
High School Activities Association Sportsmanship Award for my commitment to fair play. At graduation, I received the most prestigious award given. The Cardinal Ritter Award is given to a scholar who has most embodied our school mission of Academic Excellence, Faith Development and Leadership throughout their four years,
I have volunteered with several organizations at my school and in my community. With The
St Louis Dream Center, I packaged and distributed food, bookbags and school supplies
and wrapped and passed out toys. With The St Louis Cardinals Redbird Rookies program, I
helped coach youths K-8th grade the fundamentals of the game. With The St Louis Surge
Basketball Team, I was a ticket taker, floor mopper and passed out giveaways.
At school, I am the statistician with our football and basketball teams. I am our DJ for
various activities. All of this is accomplished with me holding down a 3.5 gpa along with taking ACC and Honors classes.

baseball, tennis and ran track. I would watch sports with my dad and then watch highlights. I became
intrigued with how they commented on the game, interviewed coaches and players, and later quarreled over who was right and who was wrong. I was motivated to pursue this field by
becoming fascinated with Steven A. Smith and of course St Louis' own Joe Buck. I have been accepted to MIZZOU will obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Mass Communication or Broadcasting,
preferably with a concentration in broadcast journalism or sports communication will be a
dream come true! There’s nothing quite like connecting with people that you have things in common with. Having a college education and not having to worry about how I am going to pay for it will equip me for this.
Receiving this scholarship will assist me with furthering my education and to continue my

The next is financial literacy. Not having financial literacy in our community can result in
several problems such as struggling to make ends meet, falling into debt, or being unable to save
for important goals like college, raising a family, buying a home or retirement. Additionally,
people who are not financially literate are more likely to fall prey to financial scams and fraud,
which can lead to devastating consequences mentally, physically, and spiritually. My parents had
to learn through trial and error. It wasn’t easy for them but after 20+ years of being on a “roller
coaster” of financial events, they succeeded! They had to get various loans, asks family for
helps or in some cases go without. To help them, they read books, attended financial
literacy classes and went to counseling. Now, my parents have been able to teach my siblings
and I the “ins and outs” along with the “dos and don’ts” of money.
I have always been interested in helping people. I watch my parents give time, money and
other to any and anyone that they can. I enjoy writing and speaking. I am also a great
listener. I can see myself writing a book on financial literacy and insurance. It
would include what they both are and the importance of having them. This will be a book
for all but with emphasis for the African American communities and families. I could be
one of the resources people can use or read to further their education about their
finances.
I have had a love and passion for sports since I was 5 years old. I have played soccer, basketball,
baseball, tennis and ran track. I even participated in The Issac Bruce Football Camps against my
mother’s will lol. I would watch sports with my dad and then watch highlights. I became
intrigued with how they commented on the game, interviewed coaches and players, and later

dream come true! There'd be nothing like being behind the scenes at a live sporting event,
whether it’s soccer, baseball, basketball, football, or any other option. Sports broadcasters get the
chance to be there in person. Although some sports broadcasters stay up in the news booth with
their colleagues, others get to be on the field or in the locker room, asking the players and
coaches questions before and after the game. You’ll gain fans who like the way that you describe
the action on the field and the ways in which you always have an important fact on hand to share
with the audience. There’s nothing quite like connecting with people that you have things in
common with. Having a college education and not having to worry about how I am going to pay
for it will equip me for this.
Receiving this scholarship will assist me with furthering my education and to continue my

The Help is a historical fiction novel by author Kathryn Stockett. It is about
a white 22-year-old graduate named Skeeter, a graduate from Ole Miss, returns to her family's cotton plantation. She finds that her beloved maid and nanny, Constantine, has left and no one will tell her why. While she tried to behave has a Southern Belle, her real dream is to be a writer, but the only job she can find is with the Jackson Journal writing a housekeeping advice column called "Miss Myrna." She knows little about housekeeping, so she turns to her friend's maid, Aibileen, for answers and finds a lot more.
This book-to-film adaptation is special to me because my great grandmother was a maid in Pheba, Mississippi from 1924-1964. She started when was 14 years old. I remember visiting her during my summers growing up. She talked about the racism, disrespect and lack of pay received by white people. She spoke of fearing for her life when having to walk home in the dark. My great grandmother would have to get up at 4 am every morning and not get home until 7 pm. After taking care of another family, she would come home to take care of her husband and 9 children. She would always advocate the importance of education and traveling the world.
My grandmother became a maid in 1956 when she was just 12 years old but got moved to working in the cotton fields. She talked about the cuts she would get on her hands and blisters she would get on her feet. She eventually dropped out of school in the 8th grade to help provide for her family full time. She wasn't having it too much longer. She ended up leaving Mississippi for St Louis, Missouri at the age of 18 and didn't looked back. My grandmother is now 80 years old and never received her high school diploma.
I read this book when I was a freshmen in high school. I saw the movie shortly after. The book was of course more detailed and longer but the film allowed the characters to come to life. I was more engaged than ever to be able to not only compare the book to the film but to my family's heritage during than era as well. I believe others who read it will do the same.

Additionally, people who are not financially literate are more likely to fall prey to financial scams and fraud, which can lead to devastating consequences mentally, physically, and spiritually. My parents had to learn through trial and error. It wasn’t easy for them but after 20+ years of being on a “roller coaster” of financial events, they succeeded! They had to get various loans, asks family for helps or in some cases go without. To help them, they read books, attended financial literacy classes and went to counseling. Now, my parents have been able to teach my siblings and I the “ins and outs” along with the “dos and don’ts” of money.
I have always been interested in helping people. I watch my parents give time, money and other to any and anyone that they can. I enjoy writing and speaking. I am also a great listener. I can see myself possibly writing a book on financial literacy and insurance. It would include what they both are and the importance of having them. This will be a book for all but with emphasis for the African American communities and families. I could be one of the resources people can use or read to further their education about their finances.
I have had a love and passion for sports since I was 5 years old. I have played soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis and ran track. At school, I am the statistician with our football and basketball teams. I am our DJ for various activities. I work at the concession stand during games. All of this is accomplished with me holding down a 3.5 gpa along with taking ACC and Honors classes.
With the help of this scholarship, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and becoming a Sports Broadcaster will be a dream come true! There'd be nothing like being behind the scenes at a live sporting event or getting to be on the field or in the locker room, asking the players and coaches questions before and after the game. Having a college education and not having to worry about how I am going to pay for it will equip me for this.

I enjoy helping people and serving those who are in need and are not blessed with the
opportunities I have had. I especially love working with the youth by mentoring them
through the love of basketball and baseball and soccer. When I see them smile, it puts a smile on my face. That’s when I know I’ve done my job well and that makes me happy knowing I have made a difference or impacted someone’s life for the better. I would love to open up a sports rec center. It would provide lessons of multiple sports for youth. It would also provide tutoring for various subjects. This could offer a safe place for them and help keep them out of trouble.
I was raised by two amazing parents who were not able to attend college because of financial reasons. They did instill in me the importance of continuing my education and do not want money to keep me from accomplishing a task they did not. They taught and modeled the importance of God and giving. That’s where my love for serving began.
One of our graduation requirements is to complete at least 104 community service hours during your four years of high school. As of date, I have completed over 500 community service hours and counting. In January 2020, I received The Saigh Foundation Award. This was presented to me by The St Louis Cardinals for my contributions to The Redbird Rookies Program. In June 2023, I received The Exceptional Neighbor’s Award. This was presented to me by The St Louis City Soccer Team for my dedication and service to my community.
This March, I was presented The Archbishop May Award in recognition of my diligence and commitment of service to my community. And most recently, I received the MSHSAA Sportsmanship Award for my commitment in playing the game fair and staying in good character. I have volunteered with several organizations in
school and in my community. With The St Louis Dream Center, I packaged and distributed food, bookbags and school supplies and wrapped and passed out toys. With The St Louis Cardinals Redbird Rookies program, I helped coach youths K-8th grade the fundamentals of the game. With The St Louis Surge Basketball Team, I was a ticket taker, floor mopper and passed out giveaways.

I have always had a passion for writing and sports since I was 4 years old. I intend to major in journalism with emphasis on Sports Broadcasting. Receiving this scholarship will assist me with furthering my education and to continue my commitment and dedication to God and the community in a new school and city.

Upon entering high school, my writing skills were great, but my communication skills were not. I had always been shy and preferred to stay behind the scenes except for when it came to playing sports. I soon realized the importance these skills would have in my life. No matter where you are in life, having an increased level of communication and writing skills is beneficial to all people no matter your age. As a Sports Broadcaster, it will require efficiency in public speaking and writing.

I would watch sports with my dad and then watch highlights. I became intrigued with how they commented on the game, interviewed coaches and players, and later quarreled over who was right and who was wrong. I was motivated to pursue this field by becoming fascinated with Steven A. Smith and of course St Louis' own Joe Buck. Going to college and obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Mass Communication or Broadcasting, preferably with a concentration in broadcast journalism or sports communication will be a dream come true! There'd be nothing like being behind the scenes at a live sporting event, whether it’s soccer, baseball, basketball, football, or any other option. There’s nothing quite like connecting with people that you have things in common with.

My name is Shannon White II and I am an African American male. I was born and raised in St Louis MO by my parents Shannon and Tonya White. I have one brother and two sisters and 2 nephews and two nieces. In my household we all were given jobs to do. Now, I am the last of the Mohicans in the house. I was/am responsible for making sure the trash cans are kept emptied. I clean up the kitchen after dinner. I wash, dry and fold my own clothes. If there's anything else asked of me, I of course do.
I have occurred over 500 community service hours with various organizations just within my four years of high school by serving my school and my community. In March, I will be recognized with The Archbishop May Service Award. This honor shows acknowledgment to the top senior in each Catholic High School in St Louis who has achieved the highest community service hours. As our Student Ambassador, I am responsible for giving prospective students tours of our school. They shadow me for a day to get an idea off what it would be like. I also give tours to prospective organizations in hopes of them donating financially. I am apart of our Media Club Sound Engineer and Statistician for our Girls and Boys Basketball and Football. At my church, I volunteered with the food pantry, giving away bookbags and schools supplies and toy drive. In my neighborhood, I helped with the St Louis Cardinals Redbird Rookie Program. This is a youth baseball team for boys and girls from grades K-8. It helps them understand and play the game. I too was apart of this program and wanted to give back.
Where ever I plan to further my education, I will seek out where to volunteer. My intentions are to have a church home. There, I will get involved as well. I love serving and being a blessing to others. It makes me happy knowing I was one that helped make a difference and impacted somebody's life for the better. It puts a smile on my face when I see a smile on theirs.
