I look to the future, I remember at 5 years old my mother questioning my career choices. She expected a common answer such as an astronaut, police officer or a firefighter. I recall exclaiming “neonatal nurse, mommy!” She was obviously shocked that at 5 years old, I knew exactly what I wanted to be, but she also understood why I was so passionate to be in that occupation. My mother had various complications during her pregnancy and was rushed to the hospital while I was only 6 months in her tiny bell. I was born a little 2-pound, 8-ounce premature baby and placed into the NICU care soon after delivery. Those neonatal nurses saved my life and my mother told me that story every night. From then on, I knew I wanted to offer the same care that the doctors and nurses offered me to others born just like me or even worse. They made sure I survived and that I was healthy enough to return home to my loving parents. From my own experiences, I have learned the importance of being of service to others and spreading love. I am the first-born child of two wonderful parent’s, Yves and Musette Joseph. At a young age, my father came into this country and grew up to be hard working, determined and kind. He never had to teach me any of those traits because I learned by just observing his inspiring behavior. My amazing mother also came into this country working extremely hard and trying to build a solid way of employment without a high school diploma. Through my parent’s struggles to build a better life for my sister and me, I have learned the value of hard work and determination.I will work diligently to make my life goals a reality.

My personal goal is to become the best version of myself and I believe that by attending Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University, I will gain the experiences needed to attain my goal. The pandemic has impacted my education with the limited interaction with my classmates and professors. Being a nursing major student I admire the the courageous stand to help those in in need with this dangerous pandemic that has taken many loved ones.Health care professionals fearlessly went to work , jeopardizing their lives to save others . They have kept a positive attitude in a horrible reality we were all forced to endure. Striving to earn my degree in Nursing I plan to join them in this fight for a better future.

My dream is to become a Neonatal Nurse. Being a child who was born premature , I appreciate the tender love and care the nurses provided me to ensure that I would survive. I plan on providing the same care by earning my degree at a historical black college. I am a first generation college student in a family of Haitian decent . My parents coming to this country without an education have created a comfortable lifestyle without earning a degree. The main obstacle when chasing to earn degree is the cost . My parents have to provide two college tuitions, which have put a strain on the family’s ability to engage in other activities. The stress of Tuition cost has caused anxiety on my parents. The fear of student loans have made me question if I even want to pursue my educational journey .Everyday life struggles has made me discouraged at times, especially in this day and age. The pandemic has impacted my social life , losing friends, limited contact with my professors has also affected my success in my classes. Months of lost work at my job has affect my funds to pay for my classes , affecting my activity as a student enrolling in courses. Although this past 2 years I have endured financial lost, death of family members, and personal stress and anxiety. I strive to attend a four year university and earn my Bachelors in Nursing, to create a better lifestyle for my future family . I want to create generational financial freedom for my future family . Creating a lineage of earning a college degree would set a great example for my younger sister to earn her own degree and the generations to come . I personally have a great love for nursing , I want to help people in need and reunite families in despair. Earning my degree would eliminate all my worries and stresses , while creating an environment for me to make lifetime friends and connections. Making friends who are also educated is a plus while attending a university, it allows me to surround myself with like minded ones. Also the benefit of being independent and finding myself as a person is essential for my success as a young adult . I appreciate all the opportunities to earn aid to pay for my tuition and living expenses while being a full time student.

My personal goal is to become the best version of myself and I believe that by attending Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University, I will gain the experiences needed to attain my goal. The Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University is my first choice because attending this Historical Black University would be my honor, knowing that education was not always available and accepted to our African American community. Choosing to attend this university will result in me becoming a successful young woman and a working pillar in society. Florida A&M University is the only institution I know that offers a program catered to Neonatal Nursing. Attending Florida A&M University would open a lot of great opportunities for me to embrace my culture and make new friends that will last a lifetime. With the variety of Clubs and Sororities that this university has to offer, I will be able to form lifetime bonds with a diverse group of people. Accomplishing my academic goals such as graduating from high school with exceptional grades and earning my place in the nursing program will allow me to live a comfortable lifestyle without worrying about expenses. I believe that graduating and receiving my diploma is an inspiration for my younger sister to influence her desire for education and inspire her to follow her dreams. I aim to ultimately find more opportunities to help my community during my tenure at Florida A&M and beyond that. Online resources is my main aid when it come to paying for college expenses , with a vast supply of online scholarships and grants I aim to earn enough funds to pay for my degree. Although sometime the cost of being a student can become stressful and discouraging , taking the time to apply for online aid is beneficial, you must work hard now to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle later .
