From a young age, I have been captivated by the idea that knowledge can change lives. This belief has not only shaped my personal growth but also fueled my desire to make a lasting impact in the lives of others. My love for learning did not begin in a traditional classroom. It was born out of real-life experiences, challenges, and moments where I had to push through uncertainty with curiosity and determination. I spent over a decade in the workforce before I was able to return to school and complete my undergraduate degree. Balancing a full-time job, adult responsibilities, and personal loss was not easy, but I never lost my hunger to learn and grow. I just completed in the Spring of 2025 my bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership, I achieved a long-standing goal by earning my degree. That moment reminded me that growth does not stop with age or circumstance. It is a lifelong journey. My commitment to learning also extends beyond academics. I serve my community through ministry work that supports blended families and underserved individuals. This mission is close to my heart because I come from a blended family and lost my father at a young age. I understand the challenges many families face, especially when financial and emotional support is limited. Through this service, I have gained valuable lessons about empathy, leadership, and faith. Each act of service has taught me something new about resilience and the importance of creating safe spaces where others can thrive. Learning for me is not confined to books and lectures. It happens in conversations, acts of kindness, and difficult moments that require reflection and action. I have learned through helping others, leading teams, navigating life’s uncertainties, and remaining open to new perspectives. These experiences have shaped the way I see the world and how I approach problems, relationships, and personal growth. I am now pursuing a Master of Science degree to build on everything I have learned so far. My long-term goal is to create a nonprofit organization that provides education, mentorship, and financial literacy to underserved and blended families. I believe that when people are empowered with the right knowledge and support, they are better equipped to build stable, fulfilling lives for themselves and their communities. Ross Mitchell’s passion for learning and discovery is something I deeply relate to. His approach to life inspires me to keep growing, keep questioning, and keep striving for excellence in all that I do. I want to honor his legacy by continuing to learn, serve, and lead with heart and purpose. Thank you for considering me for this opportunity.

Community has never just been a place for me it’s been a source of healing, strength, and vision for the future. Being an active member of my local ministry and faith based outreach has not only deepened my belief in the power of connection but has also taught me that real change starts with showing up for others, even when no one’s watching. Over the last few years, I’ve served as a volunteer ministry leader, organizing food drives, mentoring youth, and supporting single parent and blended families in underserved communities. These efforts grew from my personal journey of overcoming loss, financial hardship, and the unique dynamics of a blended family after the passing of my father. My lived experiences fueled a passion to ensure others wouldn’t feel alone in theirs. One of the most impactful moments came during the early days of the pandemic, when our community was struggling with isolation, food insecurity, and emotional exhaustion. I helped lead a grassroots effort through our ministry to deliver hot meals, groceries, and care packages to elderly residents and single parent households. It wasn’t a large-scale operation but it was deeply personal. We knew their names, their stories, and their struggles. Each delivery became a chance to connect, pray, and remind someone that they were not forgotten. What I didn’t expect was how much hope I would receive in return. Seeing neighbors look out for each other, children writing encouraging notes for the care packages, and volunteers from all backgrounds stepping up taught me something profound: even in the darkest moments, there’s light when people choose kindness and community. That experience affirmed my belief that the strongest communities are built not just with resources, but with heart. My sense of hope for the future is deeply shaped by these moments. I’ve learned that resilience is not just the ability to endure, but the courage to act, to lead, and to love others even when you’re still healing yourself. I now carry this lesson into everything I do, from my academic goals to my long-term dream of launching a nonprofit organization that supports low-income and blended families with mentoring, mental health resources, and career-building tools. Being part of a community has given me a front-row seat to the beauty of humanity, and it’s shown me that leadership starts with empathy. Whether it’s standing behind a pulpit, delivering groceries to a neighbor, or offering encouragement to a young person who’s struggling, I see each act of service as a step toward building something better, not just for one person, but for all of us. This scholarship would help me continue that mission, both through higher education and community development. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my story and humbled by the chance to keep growing as a servant-leader, one who believes in connection, in kindness, and above all, in hope.
Patricia Lindsey Jackson Foundation-Mary Louise Lindsey Service Scholarship
Service has always been at the heart of who I am. As a ministry leader in my community, I’ve spent the last several years pouring into others spiritually, emotionally, and practically driven by my faith and the lessons passed down from my late father, a man of great humility, sacrifice, and love. His example taught me that service isn’t a task, it’s a lifestyle rooted in compassion and responsibility. One of the most meaningful ways I’ve impacted my community has been through the development of a mentorship and outreach program for young men from blended, underserved families, many of whom face barriers I’m intimately familiar with. What inspired me was the absence of visible role models in these young men’s lives and the silence surrounding the unique challenges that come with non-traditional family structures. I recognized myself in their experiences and knew I could help them feel seen, supported, and empowered. Through this initiative, I’ve led workshops on emotional resilience, faith-based values, and financial literacy. I’ve helped young men navigate grief, identity, and family dynamics, often drawing from my own story of loss and perseverance. I’ve seen boys come in burdened with anger and confusion and leave with a renewed sense of hope and direction. It’s been one of the most humbling experiences of my life. But this work hasn’t been without challenges. Initially, it was difficult to earn trust especially from those who had been let down by adults in the past. I faced skepticism, limited resources, and emotional exhaustion. There were times when I questioned if I was making a real difference. But I stayed consistent, leaning into my faith and reminding myself that true leadership isn’t about applause, it’s about showing up, especially when it’s hard. Over time, I began to witness transformation not just in those I served, but in myself. My understanding of service deepened. I learned that impact isn’t measured by numbers but by the quiet moments of connection, healing, and breakthrough. I saw that humility doesn’t mean diminishing yourself, it means using your strength to lift others. And I realized that leadership guided by faith can create ripple effects that stretch beyond what we ever see. This experience has also shaped my long-term vision. As I pursue a Master of Science degree, my goal is to launch a nonprofit organization that equips blended families with limited financial means to thrive. I want to provide tools, mentorship, and programs that address both practical needs and personal growth. In doing so, I’ll continue honoring the spirit of service that has guided my journey and the legacy of compassion that Mary Louise Lindsey so beautifully represents. Receiving this scholarship would be a blessing that affirms not only the work I’ve done but the deeper calling that continues to drive me. Thank you for considering my story and for supporting those of us who serve from the heart.
    Mark Green Memorial Scholarship
My name is Shane Burnett, and I am a first-generation college graduate, ministry leader, and community servant with over a decade of professional experience. This year, I achieved a deeply personal goal by earning my undergraduate degree while working full-time and continuing to serve others through faith-based outreach. Now, I am pursuing a Master of Science degree to deepen my impact and help transform underserved communities, especially blended families like the one I grew up in. I was raised in a blended family, and I watched my late father work tirelessly to provide for us, often making sacrifices few ever saw. He was a steady, loving force who taught me the value of responsibility, humility, and faith. We didn’t have much financially, but we had heart, and his commitment to our family shaped my worldview. When he passed, I made a personal vow to honor his legacy by helping families like ours, families doing their best with limited means, often unseen and underserved. That mission now lives at the center of everything I do. In my community, I volunteer through ministry programs that support youth development, provide mentorship, and offer hope to individuals navigating hardship. Through food drives, financial literacy workshops, and life coaching, I’ve walked alongside people in seasons of both struggle and growth. My greatest passion is serving those who are overlooked, not just with encouragement, but with tools to build a better future. What makes me a strong candidate for the Mark Green Memorial Scholarship is not just my GPA or recent academic success, but the lived experience and purpose behind my path. Like Mr. Green, I have overcome adversity through perseverance and a deep belief in the power of education to change lives. Like Mrs. Green, I know what it means to defy odds and build a legacy that begins with a single step, and a single degree. With your support, I will use my graduate education to create a nonprofit dedicated to equipping blended and low-income families with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to thrive financially, emotionally, and spiritually. This will include programs for budgeting, job readiness, small business development, and mentorship, specifically designed for parents and young adults in complex family dynamics. My dream is to become a bridge for families like mine, people who have always had the will but needed help finding the way. The Mark Green Memorial Scholarship would not only help fund my education, it would honor my father’s memory and empower me to live out the values he embodied: sacrifice, love, and generational impact. Thank you for considering my story and for investing in students like me who are committed to uplifting others, just as Mark Green did with his remarkable life.
