Hello, my name is Sha'Kira Shannon. I am from Jacksonville, Fl majoring in Business Administration and Sports Management. I grew up playing sports. I was a very active kid always wanting to try something new. I also recently before i transferred to my new school was working for a D1 football program. With both of those backgrounds I realized I wanted to work with sports.
The way I want to benefit my community is by getting a job or even just volunteering at the boys and girls club and help them with the kids and whatever sport they wanted to play. Recently I found myself looking for sports-based jobs and found one at boys and girls club. They need help starting a softball team and with the experience of me already coaching a team when I was younger, I want to help. Coaching a softball team at 16 gave me great experience and knowledge especially with taking leadership and knowing how to work around different personalities and age groups.
Working with the football team gave me great experience with different things. When I was working for them, I did 2 different things. At first, I was working with coaches' film. Working with coaches' film can be crucial in helping teams gain a competitive edge and improve their performance. Coaches film taught me how to work a camera a little bit also. Then after doing coaches film for a year, I got promoted to operations. Operations is a little more tedious with work, but I liked it a lot better. It gave me the experience of getting to know the coaches and learning how to network with different people with different backgrounds. Working between coaches and players helped me with my communication and public speaking.
With my degree, I plan to assist high school students in finding their ideal college while continuing to participate in their favorite sports. By providing guidance on academic programs, scholarships, and navigating the college application process, I aim to empower students to pursue their educational and athletic aspirations simultaneously. This initiative not only supports young athletes in achieving their goals but also contributes positively to their personal growth and community impact. This is important to me because I graduated high school in 2020 during Covid and did not have the opportunity to continue to play softball when going to college. I feel every athlete should have the opportunity to pursue their dreams in playing in college.
