Bio

Hello, My name is Vraj Shah. I am a senior at the Dayton Regional STEM School. From the age of 11, I've been interested in starting my own Tech business. I hope to continue my passion for tech in college with the scholarships I receive. With the scholarships I receive, I hope to help many more communities. A possible solution could be programming a robot to help with different tasks, such as cooking, laundry, cleaning. etc. Robots would use machine learning to better understand those in poor neighborhoods and help individuals find jobs and volunteer opportunities. I have also competed in many ethical hacking & cyber security competitions where I have placed top 2% out of 5000 individuals/teams. I also have a website that I coded using HTML, CSS, & JavaScript. You can check it out at https://shahvraj26.github.io/.

Growing up, I have always been fascinated by the ever-evolving nature of technology. From tedious tasks like vacuuming to precision surgery, robots are a great example of rapid technological progress and innovation. Tasks that take years now will take robots seconds in the coming years. In a world where technology is booming rapidly, I am set on being a part of the next generation of innovation and change, which is why I have chosen to apply to computer science and engineering. In middle school, I took a computer science class that taught me Python. I sat down in class, listening to the lessons presented by the professor. We talked about how programming can help change society’s problems, like building algorithmic solutions to make processes more efficient. Many classes later, as the joy of finally debugging and fixing my code finally came to fruition, I realized that programming piqued my interest unlike anything before. It was a new paradigm of thinking, a different way of solving problems. This experience led me to research other aspects of technology. During high school, I started partaking in information technology competitions. From these competitions, I learned more about the dangers of hacking. I also learned about social engineering. Social engineering is “socially hacking” the brain of an individual who may not know much about technology. Because of this, I wanted to help more people understand computers and their ethics, so I started teaching students at my school and became more interested in the field. In college, I want to learn more about security, so I can help many more individuals understand IT. As the fallout from the pandemic hit, I stumbled on what to do during my insomnia. Rummaging in my basement, I came across an old laptop and decided to learn the computer’s electrical parts. I took apart the machine carefully and researched each part. Using what I learned about heat sinks, motherboards, and video connectors, I decided to try to make a monitor out of the old computer. Monitors usually cost $200, which was way out of my budget, so I researched ways to make a monitor, and I found out that you can use a laptop screen as one. Thus, I took the screen from my laptop and connected a video connector with an HDMI connection to the screen. After a few trials and errors, I finally got the monitor to work, which I made by researching electrical components and laptop specifications. Colleges' academic programs and clubs will undoubtedly teach me more about different aspects of technology and engineering for my future career and projects. Different clubs in college can further my knowledge about programming, securing, and engineering robots. Going to a University will help me make a difference in communities while receiving a multifaceted education in electrical engineering, computer science, and information technology.
