Hello, I am Shafia Faija. I was born in Bangladesh and immigrated to the United States at the age of five.
I am a Deptford Township High School graduate(class of 2022). Graduated Magna Cum Laude. During my time in high school, I actively participated in several extracurricular activities, such as the National Honor Society, academy of engineering, science club, culture club, and cinematography appreciation club. Additionally, I was a member of the stage crew for both the fall play and musical productions. Outside of school, I also devoted my time and effort to volunteer work, both in-person and virtually.
During high school, I took multiple courses at my local community college (Rowan College of South Jersey). In the summer of 2021, I was thrilled to be accepted into Rowan University's "2021 Think Like an Entrepreneur Summer Academy," and I successfully completed the six-week online program.
Looking ahead, I am determined to achieve my dreams and prove that with hard work and determination, anything is possible, particularly as a first-generation immigrant from Bangladesh. I am currently attending Drexel University, where I am pursuing a degree in Computing & Security Technology with a minor in Business Administration. As part of Drexel's three co-ops program, I am excited to take on the challenges and opportunities that come my way in the next five years.

Chris Jackson Computer Science Education Scholarship
Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have been drawn towards technology and its ever-evolving nature. The dynamism of the tech industry and the potential it holds for creating meaningful impact has always fascinated me. This curiosity has led me to pursue a career in software engineering, which I believe will allow me to channel my passion for technology towards creating innovative software solutions that can make a positive difference in people's lives.
The field of software engineering offers endless opportunities for creativity and problem-solving, and that is what makes it exciting for me. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to any software-related problem, and this means that there is always a scope for exploring new and innovative approaches. As a software engineer, I find the challenge of finding elegant solutions to complex problems exhilarating. The thought of designing an intricate software system and then bringing it to life through coding is truly fulfilling.
My long-term goal as a software engineer is to become a software architect. As a software architect, I will be responsible for designing and overseeing the development of large-scale software systems that can make a significant impact. The role of a software architect requires not just technical expertise but also a strategic approach towards problem-solving. To become a software architect, I aim to gain experience in various aspects of software development, from coding to project management. I want to develop the skills necessary to oversee a software project from its inception to deployment successfully.
In pursuit of this goal, I am continuously seeking new learning opportunities. I have taken various online courses in software engineering, data structures, and algorithms. I also participate in coding competitions and hackathons to hone my skills and learn from other software engineers.
To achieve my career goals, I understand that financial assistance is crucial. I am excited to apply for this scholarship, which I believe will provide me with the necessary financial support to achieve my dream of becoming a software architect. I am confident that my academic achievements and passion for software engineering make me an ideal candidate for this scholarship.
In conclusion, pursuing software engineering is my passion, and my dream job is to become a software architect. I believe that software engineering offers endless opportunities for creativity and problem-solving, and I am excited about the prospect of creating innovative software solutions that can make a positive impact on people's lives. I am confident that my academic achievements, passion for software engineering, and career goals make me the ideal candidate for this scholarship. I am grateful for your consideration and look forward to the opportunity to make a difference in the world of software engineering.

I am Shafia Faija, a first-year student at Drexel University majoring in software engineering. I always knew I wanted to work in engineering specifically when I was a young immigrant and first-generation American. To be totally honest, my upbringing also played a role in the choice of vocation I intended to follow. Being a first-generation person, I had to pick a job path that I would enjoy and that would also provide security for my family and me in the future. This decision was greatly aided by my passion for technology, and gradually I worked my way through coding classes and projects that, despite having some minor defects, I liked doing. Coding is a notion I have investigated because it piqued my intellectual curiosity. I ask myself, "Has there ever been an original intellect behind the doors to generate these messages in a computer language that are known as codes? Humans today code to create new projects and improved technologies. How did they come up with all the functionalities that can be combined with the technology hidden behind the screen and the coding? I am aware that it was created by a specific person, but it still amazes me how a few keystrokes on a keyboard may result in new technological advancements. How did individuals use computers to create random characters and variables that could be translated into messages? If there are any hidden messages, I want to investigate this subject further by experimenting with other coding methods. Nobody is really sure what was going on in the minds of the sane people who made sophisticated advancements like this possible. All of it is a mystery.
Diversity in the workplace is important to me because it is better to have personnel who are diverse in terms of race and ethnicity because they bring new perspectives, experiences, questions, and passions. Because scientific advancement depends on people learning about new things and examining current things in novel ways, diversity is crucial in the workplace. By involving people of diverse genders, ethnicities, backgrounds, religions, and sexual orientations in science, we may broaden our perspectives on study challenges and produce better results. Because engineers are problem solvers, the necessity for diverse engineering students cannot be stressed. In order to handle a wide range of problems, including those relating to transportation and education, engineers need a varied range of backgrounds and viewpoints, which calls for a diverse range of individuals.
