Bio

My life goals revolve around helping people, and I'm currently grappling with the decision of whether to pursue a career in law or to work in the political sphere. Dance is not just a hobby for me; it's my passion and a form of self-expression. When I dance, I feel liberated and fully myself. It's not just a physical activity; it's a means through which I connect with my emotions and the world around me. The movement, the rhythm, and the music all come together to create a profound sense of relief and joy within me. I would be a great candidate because I'm just a young girl who's overcame so much and never lets it stop me from trying to become the successful most impactful person I want to be with the right resources to help me pay for my college to succeed, I know I can be great in life.

    YOU GOT IT GIRL SCHOLARSHIP
The woman I deeply admire and aspire to follow in her footsteps is JaLa Edmonds. Our paths began in much the same way, as we both took on our dance journeys during our first year at Potomac High School. My passion for dance grew in those constructive years and flourished over my four years at the school, becoming a crucial part of my identity. I didn't honestly know who Jala was until the day she walked into our dance studio, her presence steering and inspiring us. Although she had graduated several years before me, Jala had also danced as a member of the Potomac team, and her return felt like a gift. With her experience, Jala shared her expertise by teaching us detailed dance routines and leading conditioning sessions that pushed our limits and sharpened our skills. What inspires me most about her is her relentless dedication to her craft and her motivation, which serve as a guide for aspiring dancers like me. As I got to know Jala, watching her effortlessly move across the studio, my dream of becoming a professional dancer grew. I started stepping up more on my team and guiding them the same way JaLa would if she weren't there, keeping the integrity and knowledge she installed in us alive. I started to lead warm-ups every practice and helped my teammates anytime they needed help, even voicing my opinion for my team around the school. She displays the idea that young African American girls coming from low-income communities like mine can not only survive but thrive in the performing arts. JaLa exemplifies that it’s the strength of one’s mindset and the level of commitment that truly matter; background or age should never dictate one’s potential. Her remarkable time management skills are evident as she balances evening dance rehearsals, hardcore workouts, her 9-to-5 job, and her passion for giving back to the young dancers at Potomac. Throughout my journey, whenever I encountered feelings of discouragement or fear within the competitive dance world, JaLa was there to lift me. She recognized my potential, even when I couldn’t see it myself, and played an essential role in guiding me toward classes that would enhance my technique. Moreover, she connected me with skilled choreographers, opening doors to widen my exposure and experiences in the dance world. Her advice on my artistic growth has been valuable. As I prepare to graduate from Potomac High School and transition to Temple University, I carry the empowerment she instilled in me, urging me to seize new opportunities with confidence and enthusiasm. I’m grateful to maintain a connection with JaLa, who continues to encourage me to pursue my passion for dance. Witnessing her journey—transforming from a new dancer on the bleachers and stage of Potomac High School to gracing larger stages and dancing in vibrant cities like Atlanta and New York—fuels my daily inspiration. Her unwavering support in ensuring I remain dedicated to my passion reminds me of the importance of taking classes and maintaining an active lifestyle with workout plans that she generously provides.
    Wicked Fan Scholarship
I am a fan of Wicked because I relate very well to Elphaba. Growing up in school, I always stood out. I got made fun of because of how big my forehead was, so when Elphaba was getting weird looks and standing out because of her outside appearance, I remember how it felt to be a new kid and not fit in because of how I looked on the outside. I am a fan of Wicked because I relate very much to Elphaba. Growing up in school, I always felt like an outsider. I was made fun of because of my large forehead, and I remember feeling the same way Elphaba did when she received strange looks for her appearance. I understand what it's like to be a new kid and not fit in because of how I looked on the outside. Despite these challenges, Elphaba maintained her confidence and held her head high. I admired the moments when her vulnerable side showed through. Throughout the story, she learned to control her emotions and feelings, which is a lesson I also had to learn to overcome my own struggles. I also enjoyed watching Glinda transition from being a mean girl to genuinely giving Elphaba a chance. I was so glad that they were able to see the real me, because when people looked past my outside appearance and got to know who I truly am, it brought me immense joy and made them realize how wrong they had been in their judgments. Admiring her for still keeping her confidence and keeping her head high, to the small moments when her vulnerable side showed. How she learned how to control her emotions and feelings throughout the movie was the same thing I had to learn to overcome.

During my senior year, I was awarded third place for my project on police brutality. At the same time, I served as the lead prosecutor in the mock trial. Additionally, in my second year as an Administration of Justice student, I delved deeply into laws and cases, and I was also a part of my school's student government is what pushed me to have three ambitious goals that I’m determined to achieve in my lifetime. Driven by my belief in the power of speaking things into existence and never letting discouragement stand in my way these scholarships will help fund me through school so I can get to my aspirations. First and foremost, I aspire to become a member of Congress. I want to leverage the knowledge and resources I’ve gained through my education and experiences to truly listen to my community. My mission is to advocate for critical resources like homeless shelters, mental health initiatives, and job fairs. I am passionate about helping African Americans understand that there are people who genuinely care about their well-being. I firmly believe that by providing support, we can uplift many from the streets and reduce crime in our neighborhoods. People who feel neglected often act out, and it’s time we change that narrative. Additionally, I aim to carve a path as a campaign consultant. I have spent countless hours observing and researching candidates running for various positions, and I've gained insights into their visions and the challenges they face. I see how they craft their messages but often realize they could use a little guidance to better connect with their target audiences. My goal is to bridge the gap between candidates and their communities, helping them approach topics in a way that resonates with everyone involved. Together, we can brainstorm innovative strategies to foster more effective communication and outreach. At the end of the road, I am determined to become President at the end of my journey. I believe that experiencing various key positions first is essential for understanding the challenges faced by people in different roles. By immersing myself in diverse experiences, I will gain invaluable insights into what it truly takes to serve a community. As President, it is crucial to have firsthand knowledge of the struggles that ordinary citizens encounter. This understanding fosters the compassion necessary to navigate the complexities of leadership. I aim to rise to the top not merely as a figurehead, but as a leader who genuinely appreciates the stakes involved and prioritizes the well-being of all citizens, rather than relying on assumptions about the lives of others.

Community service is significant in my heart, particularly shaped by my experiences growing up in a low-income community. I have observed firsthand that we can achieve much more when we unite and support each other. Over the past four years, I've taken an active role in organizing a variety of activities aimed at encouraging community bonding and engagement. For instance, I spearheaded a Women’s History Month celebration, which not only honored the incredible women in our community but also served as an educational platform for children. Through this event, we were able to spark discussions about the contributions of women throughout history, inspiring the younger generation to appreciate and understand the importance of diversity and empowerment. With my degree in Political Science, I am deeply committed to giving back to low-income communities by educating them about the political process. I aim to unwrap politics and encourage civic participation, ensuring that more voices are heard and represented. My goal is to help individuals learn the significance of their vote and how it impacts their lives and the community at large. By providing resources and hosting workshops, I hope to empower residents to actively engage in local governance, ultimately strengthening our community's influence and fostering a sense of belonging and agency among its members. Education holds deep importance in my life. I sense it not just as a pathway for personal improvement but as a transformative influence with the possibility to pass real change in society. The impact of education extends far beyond personal achievements. Through my journey, I have come to recognize the weaknesses of an academic basis and how not having it can lead to missed opportunities, yet hiding personal and collaborative potential while silencing voices that desperately need to be heard. This awakening has set fire to a determined commitment within me to embrace education with the seriousness and admiration it truly earns. When powers view someone as lacking an education, it often leads to an unfavorable unconcern for that individual’s understanding and knowledge. Their ability to advocate for themselves and others becomes undermined, and this true reality has motivated me to shift from a fixed mindset from which I was very stagnant and limited myself, to a passionate growth mindset, where possibilities are unlimited to me and change is not only what I started doing but will actively continue to pursue. This change has been nothing short of unique. As I absorb myself in my education, the knowledge I receive helps me step into a new goal, it serves as a gateway to new views and changes my understanding of the world and my place within it. Each new piece of information I discover fills me with the thrill and wonder to dive deeper into that topic. Adding to my awareness of what's happening around the world and how things are set in place deepens my thankfulness for the information I have learned and how it can help me in the long run for what I aspire you be in life. The legacy I want to create is one that motivates young African American men and women, as well as individuals from low-income communities and children who may undervalue the importance of education. I dream of putting a spark within them so they can know that if I could do it they can to, to no let the negative around them pull them down or impact them from doing the right thing, To bring out that their dreams are not just distant imaginations, but entirely attainable goals that lie well within their reach, provided they approach them with dedication and resilience. We need to rise above the limitations set by our society's surroundings or the effects of our self-doubt. We find ourselves at a key moment in history, if we do not advocate for change now, we risk allowing the world to continue down a path of laziness and fall instead of growing into a brighter, more reasonable future that everyone is okay with. We owe it to the generations that will follow us to raise our voices passionately in pursuit of rights and justice. The complaints or remarks that we make will not be enough to make change, we must take action and represent the change we wish to see. I want when I make it and tell my story to have an impact on people to set the legacy I want into place for future generations to come and for the past generations to be proud of.
    First-Gen Futures Scholarship
I have made the conscious decision to pursue higher education, motivated by my experiences growing up in a less fortunate environment. Being surrounded by individuals who often held a pessimistic view of their own potential, I realized how easily a fixed mindset can take root. Many people in my community have come to believe that they cannot achieve more than their current circumstances—this belief is often reinforced by the dismissive attitudes of those in positions of power. We face numerous challenges, from inadequate housing and systemic police brutality to limited access to quality healthcare. In many instances, our voices seem unheard, and it feels as though there is a collective resignation to the idea that things cannot improve. However, I have chosen a different path. I refuse to settle for the limitations that my upbringing might suggest. I aspire to rise above the negative cycle that surrounds me and to pursue a life of growth and opportunity instead. This journey began with a commitment to foster a mindset oriented toward progress—actively choosing to focus on the positive aspects of life and to embrace learning as a way to navigate my future. As a first-generation college student, I understand the weight of this responsibility, not just for myself but for my family and my community. Entering college, I carry with me the belief that I am not just doing this for personal achievement; I aim to inspire others in my community to realize that it is entirely possible to aspire to more and that it is not only acceptable but also commendable to strive for change in our lives. My involvement in the Student Government Association (SGA) during high school has played a crucial role in preparing me for this journey. It has honed my skills in leadership and advocacy, teaching me the importance of listening to diverse perspectives—from my fellow students to the staff members at school. I have learned to be impartial and to seek compromises that allow everyone’s voice to be heard, promoting fairness and equity within our student body. As I step into this next chapter of my life, I do so with the intention of breaking down barriers and proving that our community can grow and thrive, despite the challenges we face. I am committed to being a catalyst for change, encouraging others to break free from their limitations and embrace the vast possibilities that lie ahead.
    Concrete Rose Scholarship Award
I am writing to convey my heartfelt and earnest belief that I should be awarded this scholarship. Throughout my life, I have placed a high premium on my education, laboring diligently to achieve excellence in all my academic endeavors. My consistent appearances on the honor roll reflect my commitment to learning, and I have had the privilege of being inducted into prestigious organizations like the National Honor Society and taking part in the transformative HOBY All-Stars program. Yet, despite these significant achievements, I frequently find myself having to decline enriching opportunities due to the daunting financial challenges my family faces. Growing up in a single-parent household with four siblings, financial stability has always been an elusive dream for my family. My mother tirelessly juggles multiple jobs to provide for us, but with limited financial resources, covering the extra expenses that accompany my education and various extracurricular activities becomes an arduous task. Each day, I am filled with a desire to embrace every opportunity that arises to advance my academic journey, but the oppressive weight of financial strain casts a long shadow over our household. I am passionately committed to pursuing a college education with a focus on political science. My aspiration lies in instigating change and fervently advocating for social justice. Instead of merely bemoaning the pressing issues plaguing our world, I yearn to be an active participant in crafting equitable solutions that benefit all members of society. I firmly believe that education is the cornerstone to acquiring the knowledge and skills essential for making a lasting and meaningful impact. To use all of the skills I've gained through high school and continue gaining knowledge and skills through college to one day make a difference in the world. I believe in having a growth mindset on any challenge I'm faced with and doing good in whatever career path I take in the future. Receiving this scholarship would not only lighten the financial load on both my mother and me but also liberate me from the constant stress of managing the costs associated with higher education. It would empower me to concentrate wholeheartedly on my studies and immerse myself in extracurricular activities without the persistent worry of finances lingering in the background. I assure you that if I am fortunate enough to receive this scholarship, it will be utilized judiciously and purposefully, ultimately fostering my personal growth and enhancing my ability to give back to my community. Thank you for the opportunity to present my application and for considering my dreams with such care.

For the past four years and continuing through the present, I have dedicated myself to giving back to my school community in meaningful ways. I take great pride in supporting new students, and offering them guidance and advice as they navigate their transition into our school. Whether it’s showing them around the hallways or sharing tips on how to succeed academically, I strive to make their experience more enjoyable and less overwhelming. My involvement extends to helping organize various school events, where I play a key role in coordinating logistics and ensuring everything runs smoothly. Setting up for assemblies, dances, and fundraisers has taught me the value of teamwork and preparation. Additionally, I have had the privilege of giving tours to prospective students and their families, showcasing the vibrant atmosphere and diverse opportunities that our school has to offer. As an active member of student government, I have not only helped plan events but also served as a voice for my peers, advocating for their needs and ideas. This experience has empowered me to take on leadership roles and understand the importance of representation within our school community. My performance at different in-school and out-of-school events has further allowed me to contribute creatively, showcasing the talents and spirit of our student body. Looking ahead to college, I am eager to continue this path of service, eager to engage with my new community, and potentially join the Student Government there as well. My experiences have been invaluable in preparing me for a future where I hope to excel in political science. Ultimately, I aspire to help others and give back to the community in a more profound way, utilizing my education and experiences to make a positive impact on those around me. I am deeply committed to proactively exploring diverse avenues to support others throughout my college experience. Instead of merely reflecting on the world's challenges, I strive to be a catalyst for positive change, ensuring that everyone feels valued and that impactful rules and regulations are put in place for a better society. This may seem ambitious, but my unwavering dedication to understanding the needs of others has always fueled my efforts. For example, as the vice president of the Student Government Association, I prioritize engaging with the student body and fostering discussions that lead to compromises, ensuring our collective voice is effectively represented in our interactions with the administration.
    Eden Alaine Memorial Scholarship
As a junior in high school, I encountered some of the most daunting challenges of my life—moments that tested my strength and resilience. One particular day stands out vividly, a day brimming with heartbreak and hardship. Saying goodbye to my beloved 1-year-old nephew, a loss that struck us unexpectedly and deeply. Being close to someone that you spent everyday with and all of a sudden trying to figure out life without that person and coming to reality is a mind twister. Despite the rage, I knew I had to stand tall. I carried an enormous weight on my shoulders, juggling schoolwork, dance, cheerleading, and my responsibilities in student government. It was a relentless uphill battle, but I realized that my emotions couldn’t overshadow the needs of those around me. Embracing my role as a leader, I was determined to push through and set a positive example, demonstrating that we could rise above adversity. Throughout this challenging period, I learned the vital importance of prioritizing my education. I made a firm commitment to not compromise my studies, understanding that education was my rock—my foundation for future happiness and success. Life will undoubtedly throw curveballs at us, but I firmly believe giving up is never an option. Looking back at that stormy chapter, I see the strength I didn’t know I had, and how my perseverance paved the way for significant personal growth. This journey also equipped me with a deeper empathy for others, allowing me to offer genuine support to those grappling with their struggles. I recognized that my experiences could help me provide comfort and advice when it was needed most. As the dust settled, I wrapped up my 11th-grade year stronger than ever, ready to take on whatever lay ahead. This story will forever be my reminder that I am capable of overcoming anything life throws my way. When I share it, I don’t seek pity; rather, I hope to inspire others—to show them that they too can navigate their challenges and emerge victorious. Ultimately, I learned to toughen up because not everyone will be concerned with your struggles—what matters is the solution you bring to the table, whether in life, high school, or beyond. This experience taught me to separate my feelings from my work, for which I am truly grateful. I may not have chosen these trials, but they sculpted me into a stronger, more successful individual ready to conquer the future.

The beat of the music resonates deep within me, each pulse connecting me to something greater than myself. For me, dance is not just about moving in a graceful manner; it's a language that goes beyond words, a universal form of expressing joy, strength, and togetherness. My love for dance began at highschool in 9th grade. Growing up I always enjoyed dancing but never took classes or got into any programs because I came from a low-income household with a single mother raising 5 kids on her own. Once I entered high school and figured out they had a dance program I was so excited and it was free of cost. Through dance, I gained confidence, learned discipline, and found a sense of belonging. The life-altering impact of dance is what drives me to share it with my community. My 11th-grade year I hit rock bottom after I became homeless and then my nephew passed away. I was a literal wreck but expressing myself through dance I learned how to make that my relief spot and eventually started to overcome my problems. I envisioned creating a free dance program that serves as a sanctuary for underprivileged youth and a platform for cultural exchange. Dance has the power to empower individuals, nurturing self-assurance and artistic expression. Making this a safe place for everyone to come and leave all their problems and feelings on the floor is a way I think good can come from the community. Helping young kids build their confidence and understand that being who you are is a great thing when it comes to dance. Helping people understand that it’s okay to be different in dance and to stand out and shine. It can also bridge cultural gaps, generating understanding and empathy through shared experiences. It can, help people find individually within themselves individually and help them find who they are and break shyness. Envision a community where young people, regardless of their backgrounds, can come together, united by the rhythm of the dance. Also, help people just like me who have problems expressing themselves through talking and feeling like people don't get them or understand them, knowing that there are other ways to get your point across even when you feel like people might not get it. This is the vision I hold—a world where dance is a force for positive change, cultivating a more vibrant, inclusive, self-expression, self-confidence, and interconnected community.
