When I first graduated High School I thought I wanted to attend medical school to be a midwife. However whenever it was time to go off to college to pursue this career path I got anxious and took a year off from school. I didn't think I was ready and was unsure of myself. During that year I was trying to figure out what career path was best for me and what I would be the happiest doing. I knew I wanted to do something in the arts/creative field, so I started my search on Google for possible career paths I could follow and I ended up on this webpage from this online coding and design school called “Skillcrush.com” I landed on a page of theirs offering a quiz that would tell you what design career path is best for you based on how you answered the questions given. I took the quiz out of curiosity and ended up with the results of UI/UX Designer.
Of course, I then went to Google and found out it was actually a job and I was surprised because I never heard of that career before. I also went to "Indeed.com" to see if there were actually jobs in this field because I couldn’t believe it and I was shocked to see so many job opportunities. Next, I saw that the Skillcrush website offered a free coding Bootcamp, so I completed the Bootcamp and realized that I wanted a career in this field, so I enrolled in community college in the fall of 2020 to major in Web Design. As the semesters have passed and my graduation in the spring of 2022 is approaching I knew this isn't where I wanted my education to stop. I did more research on google to see what other degrees complement a design degree, and what are all the career path options I have. I saw that a bachelor's degree in journalism/communications was an option which was great because I was thinking of going back to college to pursue a bachelor's degree in journalism because I want to be the creative director of a fashion magazine and hopefully for my own in the far future.
In addition, I hope to be attending Texas Southern University for print journalism or continue my education at the College of Southern Nevada and earn my associate's there and transfer to a wonderful journalism program. I can wholeheartedly thank that day I stumbled upon the Skillcrush website and took that test because without it I wouldn’t have noticed this career path and have the passion for design and writing I have today. I also thank Indeed for showing me this passion was realistic.
