Bio

I grew up in Thailand and Saudi Arabia for the first 14 years of my life and I've always been fascinated by movies and cartoons which connected me to my half American roots. As a kid, knowing that there were people who were able to create an entire world using their hands and imaginations alone really motivated me throughout life to chase after something I enjoyed and wanted to be a part of which is why I want to go to college to learn animation. Additionally, throughout my life, I’ve been surrounded in diverse environments, traveled around the world and witnessed people of all kinds of backgrounds create and do amazing things and which is why I believe I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to while utilizing my unique background to excel myself. I also hope to use my dream of becoming an animator to be able to share my experiences and perspective to spread a sense of diversity and unity among people from every part of the world while being able to experience more of the world and the people in it.

I am currently pursuing a degree in animation at Texas A&M, and one of the aspects I cherish most about my major is its ability to challenge both my artistic and technical abilities. From a young age, I have always been drawn to the world of animation, finding inspiration and wonder in the way artists bring characters and stories to life. Growing up in various parts of the world exposed me to a rich tapestry of cultures and perspectives, which significantly shaped my identity as a person and as an artist. Upon moving to America, I realized that not everyone had the same multicultural upbringing that I did. It was eye-opening to see how little awareness there was about the diverse environments I had experienced in my everyday life growing up. In Thailand, where I spent part of my childhood, I realized that as a person of mixed heritage, I was never truly represented. It felt as though only half of me truly belonged there. Living in Saudi Arabia, no one around me was like me, I was surrounded by kids from every country around the world, yet strangely enough, that was where I felt I belonged the most. Despite excelling in math and science, art has always been my true passion. As I embarked on my animation journey in college, I immediately felt a profound sense of purpose. Having achieved one goal—discovering my life's calling—I am now dedicated to another: using my talent and passion to tell stories that often go untold on mainstream media platforms. I am driven to share narratives that are frequently overlooked, including unique perspectives like my own. I firmly believe that sharing perspectives, stories, and values from diverse individuals is crucial for societal progress, especially in an era where the entertainment industry significantly influences our collective beliefs. These stories possess the transformative power to foster connections and broaden understanding of the diverse experiences people encounter worldwide. In the future, I envision myself leveraging my animation skills to amplify voices that are underrepresented and to bridge cultural divides. By creating content that reflects the richness of global diversity and brings to life global conflicts, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive media landscape where everyone can see themselves being represented. Ultimately, I hope to inspire others, particularly young artists from multicultural backgrounds, to pursue their passions and share their own stories with the world.

I am currently a Visualization student at Texas A&M, specializing in the art of animation. With this being a childhood dream of mine, I hope to learn about the industry and the process of making digital movies and shows. This knowledge is not just for personal fulfillment; I intend to harness it to make a meaningful contribution to my community at large. As I delve deeper into the world of animation, my overarching goal is to create projects that transcend boundaries and bring people together. Coming from a multicultural background, I have had the privilege of living in multiple countries, including Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. These diverse experiences have bestowed upon me a unique perspective, one that I am eager to share with the world. I believe that by infusing my work with this rich tapestry of cultural influences, I can help foster unity in a world that often feels divided. My firsthand exposure to different cultures has allowed me to develop a unique understanding of various issues around the world. For example, my time in Saudi Arabia exposed me to the complexities of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Growing up in close proximity to both Palestinian and Israeli individuals, I gained valuable insights into various aspects of this enduring conflict. Through my animations and storytelling, I aim to shed light on such issues, making them accessible to a broader audience and, hopefully, fostering empathy and understanding. The entertainment industry wields a powerful platform that can influence and connect people across the globe. Movies, in particular, have the potential to create joy and a sense of unity. I envision my work contributing to this global tapestry of stories, transcending borders, and forming connections between people of diverse backgrounds. The sense of unity that emerges from shared passions, such as the formation of international fan clubs, is a testament to the ability of entertainment to bring individuals together. Becoming a part of this creative process is not merely a career aspiration but a means to create a positive impact on society. It is about taking the shared experiences and insights I have gained from my multicultural background and channeling them into stories that touch the hearts and minds of people worldwide. In conclusion, my pursuit of a degree in animation is driven by a deep desire to leverage the art form to connect, inspire, and unite people from diverse backgrounds just as it did for me as a child. By incorporating my multicultural experiences and understanding of the world into my work, I hope to make a lasting impact on my community and the world at large. Animation, with its power to captivate and convey messages, is the perfect medium for me to achieve this goal, and I am excited to continue my journey in the world of visual storytelling.

From an early age, my passion for art has been an integral part of my identity. Inspired by the pieces of art I saw when I traveled as a kid, and seeing the art on TV and in movies, it all inspired me to become an artist. These experiences opened my eyes to the boundless potential of art, sparking a lifelong fascination. Now pursuing a degree in Visualization at Texas A&M and learning about the art of animation, I have never been more passionate about learning and more excited to be able to contribute to creating pieces of art like the ones that inspired me as a child. Yet, unlike many other academic pursuits, pursuing a degree in Visualization comes with unique financial challenges. The cost of materials, such as art supplies, and the need for powerful technology and computers can be overwhelming. These resources are not just optional luxuries; they are essential tools for my education and personal growth. They enable me to bring my creative visions to life and meet the rigorous demands and requirements of my program. However, balancing these expenses with the costs of tuition, student loans, housing, and daily necessities has proven to be a daunting task with my parents having been unemployed for almost a year now. In the field of Visualization, I find that I must engage both my right and left brain. The right brain is where my artistic creativity thrives. It's the source of inspiration and imagination, allowing me to envision the visual narratives that I want to create and tell the stories and messages I want to convey to my audience. On the other hand, the left brain, with its logical and analytical prowess, helps me manage the technical aspects of my major. It aids in creation through techniques using specific software, coding, and dealing with issues like debugging. Overall, my major is a place where both the left and right brain come to work together and where both science and art work together to create something new which is why I love it. As I continue to learn more about both sides of this industry, I become more and more excited to learn about what is possible and more passionate about becoming an artist in the diverse and unique world that is the art and animation community, so I determined to be able to contribute to this amazing industry and be able to create inspiring pieces of art in the future.

I am currently enrolled at Texas A&M University, where I am pursuing a degree in Visualization. Throughout my academic journey, one fundamental principle that both experienced upperclassmen and esteemed professors have consistently emphasized is the inseparable fusion of art and science within this field. Indeed, the existence and evolution of my major owe their very existence to the symbiotic relationship between artistic expression and technological innovation. At Texas A&M, the curriculum places a notable emphasis on programming and scientific understanding, often prioritizing these aspects over artistic elements. This approach is grounded in the belief that artistic aptitude is already present within us, allowing us to collaborate and enhance each other's creative perspectives. Each day within this program, we adeptly wield a variety of software applications to bring our visual concepts to life. Yet, it is easy to overlook the intricate coding and laborious development invested in the creation of these tools. Each new semester introduces us to fresh coding techniques, unveiling novel possibilities that coding can unlock. These acquired skills empower us to elevate our final projects and continuously refine our creative endeavors. Physics, an unexpected but vital subject in our curriculum, also plays a pivotal role. I vividly recall my initial perplexity upon encountering the mandatory physics class requirement, a sentiment shared by many of my peers during our freshman year. However, as time progressed, I realized that comprehending the underlying principles of the physical world is an indispensable asset for any aspiring creator. The significance of physics becomes apparent when aiming to produce captivating animations, where the knowledge of realistic movement dynamics is a prerequisite. Although delving into physics may not have been the most entertaining pursuit, its value in shaping our ability to craft convincing visuals cannot be overstated. The grueling coursework in this subject becomes an investment towards our ambitions, particularly for those harboring aspirations of contributing to illustrious studios such as Pixar or DreamWorks. In conclusion, my academic journey in Visualization at Texas A&M has illuminated the profound interplay between art, science, and technology. Through a deliberate emphasis on programming and scientific insight, combined with an appreciation of artistic acumen, the program equips us with a holistic skill set. This multidimensional education primes us to navigate the intricate realm of visual creation successfully. As we traverse the realms of coding, physics, and artistic expression, we inch closer to our collective aspiration of leaving an indelible mark on the canvas of creative innovation.

I like to think that from the moment I was born, I have been a creative and artistic person because I cannot remember a time in my life when I did not have an interest in art. Growing up abroad in Thailand and Saudi Arabia, I encountered numerous cultures and all of their unique art forms. I would attempt to replicate paintings I took pictures of while traveling or images I found on Google on pieces of A4 paper using cheap acrylic paints after school every day. At school, I felt exhilarated whenever we had an artistic project in class, where I consistently earned extra points for investing so much effort into making them look nice. It brought me joy that everyone in the class wanted me to join their group whenever we had an artistic project coming up. However, I never felt like I was quite good enough compared to many others or had a direction that I was trying to take my art. I practiced various styles and mediums at home after finishing my homework and at school while my teachers conducted their lessons, even though I wasn't always clear about what exactly I was trying to improve. By the time I reached high school and moved to America, art became my anchor during this significant environmental transition. I enrolled in an art class, through which I made friends and discovered my talent and passion for digital art and animation. The exposure to various programs and the possibilities they offered broadened my perspective on the potential of art, motivating me to absorb as much knowledge as possible in these areas. Following this revelation, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in animation. My teacher's support further solidified my belief that this was the right path for me. When application time arrived, I had a clear goal in mind: to attend Texas A&M in the field of visualization and to earnestly demonstrate why I belonged there. Roughly a month later, an email arrived confirming my acceptance into my dream school. Finally, I could actively pursue my long-cherished aspiration. Now that I am here, my fondness for my major grows each day, alongside my increasing thirst for knowledge. There is still so much left for me to explore, but when I see guest speakers coming to share their insights with us, I am filled with the assurance that my future holds excitement and fulfillment.

No, I’m not so sure that these volunteering experiences influenced my core values as much as they enhanced them. Through my high school volunteering experience, making a fundraiser for Burmese refugees and doing volunteering and tutoring for the National honors society and Spanish national honors society, it showed me that every community struggles and being part of that community, it is important to help in any way you can. Growing up in a third world country like Thailand for most of my childhood, struggle was not a new concept to me. However, having lived the life I have, and to be so lucky to be where I am today, after joining these organizations, it enhanced my need to give back to the communities around me and those that allowed me to be where I am. Now working toward a bachelors degree, I hope to be able to use my skills and talents in arts to soon become an animator and share these stories and bring awareness to issues around the world. Being able to work on movies that reach every corner of the globe and get so much attention on social media, I think is a very powerful device that could be used to spread stories of joy, happiness, sadness, determination, grief, betrayal and much much more. In the organizations that I am currently in, it is no coincidence that they are mostly centered around art and the international community with me being in Siggraph, Women in animation and the international students association. These organizations help me learn about the animation industry and learn from speakers who have the very jobs that I hope to have in the future and be able to learn from them. Helping volunteer in events makes me feel even closer to the animation community and helps me connect with so many like minded people who share the same interests as me. Learning from this, it has shown me that I do have a place and that it is achievable. Especially in such a connection oriented industry like the movie industry, I think that these organizations and volunteering experiences and future experiences as well, will help me immensely in reaching my end goals and being able to share my and so many other stories from all communities around the world as they teach me not only how to be a better artist but also a better person.

When I go off to college, I hope to learn the art of animation and learn about the industry and how the whole process of making digital movies and shows work. With such a wide-reaching form of art, I think that I could make a difference through the projects I will produce. Especially, since I am a multicultural child who has lived in multiple countries in my life, including Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and the US, I would be able to spread my perspective and experiences with everyone which I think would create a great sense of unity in our world that is very divided. Additionally, movies around the world tend to create a sense of joy and unity as people create fan clubs with people from everywhere, even halfway across the world. Thus to be a part of that process would be an amazing job that I think would not only connect people but create a positive impact on them.
