Bio

As I walked through the halls of DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan, I never could have imagined the profound impact that my experience shadowing an Anesthesiologist would have on me. As an African-American minority, I have often found myself navigating a world where opportunities may not always be equally distributed. My journey to this point has been marked by determination and resilience, qualities that I believe will serve me well as I pursue a career in medicine. My experience at the hospital solidified my commitment to pursuing a career in medicine, particularly with a focus on underrepresented populations. As someone who has been diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis and has a brother who has endured halo gravity traction and spinal fusion procedures, I understand the importance of good health and the impact that medical professionals can have on a patient's life. I know that my passion for medicine, combined with my strong work ethic, will make me a valuable asset to any medical team.

As I walked through the halls of DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan, I never could have imagined the profound impact that my experience shadowing an Anesthesiologist would have on me. I had always been fascinated by the human body, but it wasn't until I saw a spinal fusion surgery up close that I truly began to appreciate the complexity and fragility of our physical being. As an African-American minority, I have often found myself navigating a world where opportunities may not always be equally distributed. My journey to this point has been marked by determination and resilience, qualities that I believe will serve me well as I pursue a career in medicine. Witnessing the surgical procedure, I felt a mix of discomfort and amazement. How was it possible that the patient felt no pain throughout the entire surgery? It was then that I realized the vital role that Anesthesiologists play in allowing patients to endure surgeries without experiencing the excruciating pain that accompanies such procedures. I knew then that I wanted to be a part of that team, helping others to achieve optimal health and wellness. However, I am acutely aware that not all individuals have equal access to healthcare resources. My goal is to bridge this gap by providing compassionate and culturally sensitive care to underserved communities. Through my education and experience, I hope to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to make a real difference in the lives of others. I understand that medical school will be challenging, but I am prepared to put in the hard work and dedication necessary to become an excellent physician. I know that my passion for medicine, combined with my strong work ethic, will make me a valuable asset to any medical team. In conclusion, my experience shadowing an Anesthesiologist at DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan was truly the internship of a lifetime. It opened my eyes to the complexities of the human body and the vital role that Anesthesiologists play in ensuring that patients receive the care they need. As an African-American aspiring physician, I am committed to serving underrepresented populations and addressing healthcare disparities. I am excited to continue my journey in medicine and to make a real impact on the lives of those around me. This scholarship will assist me in fulfilling my dream of attending Medical school and the next phase in my long road to becoming an Anesthesiologist.
