My name is Sena White, and I am currently pursuing an Associate degree in Culinary Arts while working toward a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Japanese at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am passionate about the way food connects people across cultures, and this passion motivates both my academic goals and my career aspirations.
I have nearly ten years of experience in the culinary field, including baking, catering, and kitchen operations. At Project 658 Inc., I worked as a line cook and catering server, where I prepared a variety of baked goods and dishes, maintained strict sanitation standards, and helped organize events. I also trained new employees and learned how to adapt quickly in fast-paced environments. These experiences strengthened my communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work well in a team.
As I continue to grow in my culinary journey, I enjoy learning new techniques, exploring international cuisine, and finding creative ways to blend cultural influences into my work. My studies in international business and Japanese further support my goal of building a globally inspired career in the food industry.
I am committed to excellence, continuous learning, and using my skills to make a positive impact in the culinary world.

Veterans Next Generation Scholarship
My experience as the daughter of a veteran has had a profound impact on my values, educational journey, and career aspirations. My father served in the Korean War and suffered a life-changing injury, losing his leg during his military service. Although I was young when my father passed away, his sacrifice and service have remained an important part of my family's story. Growing up, I learned that freedom, opportunity, and security often come at a tremendous personal cost. My father's willingness to serve his country despite the risks taught me the importance of courage, resilience, and selflessness.
After my father's passing when I was six years old, my mother, an immigrant, became a single parent and carried the responsibility of raising me on her own. Together, my parents' stories shaped my understanding of perseverance. My father's military service demonstrated sacrifice and commitment, while my mother's determination showed me the strength required to overcome adversity. Watching my mother work tirelessly to provide for our family while honoring my father's legacy inspired me to approach my own goals with dedication and gratitude. Their examples taught me that challenges should not become excuses but opportunities to grow stronger.
Because of my family's experiences, I developed a deep appreciation for service and community. I have volunteered with organizations that support homeless individuals, immigrants, refugees, and families facing hardship. I am also a co-founder of a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through mentorship and leadership development. Through these experiences, I have learned that meaningful impact comes from helping others reach their potential. My father's military service protected opportunities for future generations, and I hope to honor that legacy by creating opportunities for others in my own community.
I am currently pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts and plan to continue my education in International Business and Japanese. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian-inspired restaurant that serves as both a business and a community resource. I want to create jobs, mentor young people, and provide opportunities for individuals from underserved backgrounds. I believe that business can be used not only to generate income but also to strengthen communities and improve lives. The discipline, perseverance, and commitment to service that I learned from my family's experiences will guide me throughout my career.
Being the child of a veteran has given me a unique perspective on sacrifice and responsibility. My father's service reminds me that meaningful achievements often require dedication and personal sacrifice. His example motivates me to work hard in pursuit of my educational goals and to use my future success to benefit others. This scholarship would help me continue my education while honoring the legacy of a veteran whose service and sacrifice continue to inspire me every day. Through my education, career, and community involvement, I hope to carry forward the values of service, resilience, and leadership that my father embodied throughout his life.

**Selected Passage**
"Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power."
— Laozi, *Tao Te Ching*
**Essay**
**Thesis:** In this passage, Laozi argues that the highest form of human achievement is not the ability to understand, influence, or control other people, but rather the ability to understand and govern oneself. Through his careful contrast between external and internal forms of knowledge and power, Laozi suggests that self-awareness and self-mastery are the foundations of wisdom, character, and lasting success.
At first glance, this passage appears to be a simple comparison between different kinds of intelligence and strength. However, a closer reading reveals that Laozi is challenging common assumptions about what society values. Most cultures praise people who can influence others, gain authority, or achieve public recognition. Success is often measured by external accomplishments such as wealth, status, leadership positions, or popularity. Laozi deliberately reverses these expectations. Instead of praising those who can control others, he elevates those who can control themselves. By doing so, he invites readers to reconsider what genuine wisdom and power truly mean.
The first half of the passage contrasts "knowing others" with "knowing yourself." Laozi acknowledges that understanding other people requires intelligence. The ability to recognize another person's motives, emotions, and behavior is certainly valuable. Leaders, teachers, and business professionals often depend on this skill. Yet Laozi argues that self-knowledge is even more significant. The phrase "true wisdom" suggests that understanding oneself requires a deeper level of insight than understanding others.
This distinction is important because self-knowledge is often more difficult to achieve. People naturally observe the actions of others while overlooking their own flaws, fears, and weaknesses. Human beings are capable of rationalizing mistakes, avoiding uncomfortable truths, and creating idealized versions of themselves. Laozi implies that true wisdom demands honesty and self-reflection. A person who recognizes their strengths and weaknesses is better equipped to make thoughtful decisions and live according to their values. Therefore, wisdom is not simply the accumulation of information but the ability to understand one's own nature.
The second half of the passage develops this idea further by contrasting "mastering others" with "mastering yourself." Again, Laozi does not deny that influencing or leading others requires strength. Throughout history, societies have admired military leaders, political figures, and individuals who possess power over others. However, Laozi argues that self-mastery is a greater achievement. His use of the phrase "true power" suggests that external authority is limited, while internal discipline is enduring.
The deeper meaning of self-mastery becomes clear when considering the challenges people face in everyday life. It is often easier to criticize others than to correct one's own behavior. It is easier to react impulsively than to remain patient and disciplined. A person may achieve success in the outside world while still struggling with pride, anger, fear, or insecurity. Laozi suggests that genuine power is demonstrated when an individual can govern these internal forces. Someone who can remain calm under pressure, maintain integrity during difficult circumstances, and stay committed to long-term goals possesses a strength that cannot be measured by status or influence alone.
The structure of the passage also reinforces Laozi's message. Both sentences follow the same pattern: an external quality is acknowledged, but an internal quality is presented as superior. This repetition emphasizes the distinction between appearance and reality. Society often celebrates visible accomplishments because they can be easily observed. Self-awareness and self-discipline, however, are largely invisible. Laozi encourages readers to look beyond outward success and recognize the value of inner growth.
On a broader level, the passage reflects one of the central themes of the *Tao Te Ching*: harmony in the world begins with harmony within the individual. Laozi believed that people often seek solutions through control, competition, and dominance. Yet he argues that lasting peace and effectiveness arise from understanding oneself first. A person who lacks self-control may misuse authority, while a person who possesses self-mastery can lead others with wisdom and humility. Thus, personal transformation becomes the foundation for positive influence in society.
Ultimately, the underlying meaning of this passage is that the greatest challenges and victories occur within the human heart and mind. Laozi redefines intelligence, wisdom, strength, and power by shifting attention from external achievements to internal character. Through this brief but profound statement, he teaches that understanding oneself is more valuable than understanding others and that mastering oneself is the highest form of power. His message remains relevant today because it reminds readers that true success is not measured by the control we have over others but by the discipline, wisdom, and integrity we cultivate within ourselves.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
Making a positive impact on the world begins with recognizing that even small acts of service can change someone's life. Throughout my life, I have learned that helping others is not simply something we do occasionally—it is a responsibility. My desire to serve others comes from my own experiences growing up. When I was six years old, my father passed away, and my mother, an immigrant, raised me as a single parent. Watching her work tirelessly to provide for our family while helping others whenever she could taught me the importance of compassion, resilience, and community. Her example inspired me to dedicate myself to making a difference in the lives of others.
One way I have already begun making an impact is through volunteer service. I have volunteered with organizations that support homeless individuals, immigrants, refugees, and families facing difficult circumstances. These experiences have shown me how many people struggle with challenges beyond their control and how meaningful support can help restore hope and opportunity. I have learned that sometimes the greatest impact comes from simply listening, encouraging, and showing people that they are valued. These lessons have strengthened my commitment to serving others and helping create stronger communities.
I am also proud to be a co-founder of a nonprofit organization focused on empowering youth. Through mentorship, leadership development, and community engagement, our goal is to help young people build confidence and discover their potential. I believe that investing in young people is one of the most effective ways to create lasting change because today's youth will become tomorrow's leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, and community advocates. Seeing the growth and confidence that young people develop when they are given support and encouragement has reinforced my belief that positive change begins with creating opportunities for others.
My educational goals are closely connected to my desire to make a difference. I am currently pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts and plan to continue my education in International Business and Japanese. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian-inspired restaurant that serves as more than just a business. I envision creating jobs, mentoring young employees, supporting local nonprofit initiatives, and providing opportunities for individuals from underserved backgrounds. I want my future business to be a place where people not only find employment but also gain skills, confidence, and opportunities for growth.
Ultimately, I plan to make a positive impact on the world by combining education, entrepreneurship, and service. Whether through volunteering, nonprofit leadership, mentoring youth, or creating opportunities through business, I want to help others realize their potential and achieve their goals. My experiences have taught me that one person's dedication can influence countless lives. By continuing to serve my community and using my education to create opportunities for others, I hope to leave a legacy of compassion, empowerment, and positive change that extends far beyond my own success.
Minority Women in LAS Scholarship
My family's immigrant story has shaped the way I view education, opportunity, and perseverance. My mother immigrated to the United States in search of greater opportunities and a better future for our family. Leaving behind her home, culture, and support system required tremendous courage and sacrifice. As her child, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges that come with starting over in a new country while trying to build a stable life. Her journey taught me that success is not simply about talent or luck—it is about resilience, determination, and the willingness to keep moving forward despite obstacles.
When I was six years old, my father passed away, leaving my mother to raise me as a single parent. Suddenly, she carried the full responsibility of providing for our family while navigating life as an immigrant in a country far from where she was born. Despite financial challenges and personal hardships, she never allowed those difficulties to define our future. Instead, she emphasized the importance of education and encouraged me to pursue opportunities that she did not always have access to herself. Watching her work tirelessly to support our family while maintaining hope and determination inspired me to approach my own goals with the same mindset.
Growing up as the daughter of an immigrant has influenced every aspect of my educational journey. I learned to appreciate the sacrifices that make educational opportunities possible and to never take those opportunities for granted. While balancing school, work, and financial responsibilities, I remained committed to my academic goals because I understood that education could create opportunities not only for me but also for future generations of my family. I am currently pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts and plan to continue my education by earning bachelor's degrees in International Business and Japanese. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian-inspired restaurant that celebrates culture, creates jobs, and serves as a positive force within the community.
My mother's immigrant experience has also inspired my commitment to service. I volunteer with organizations that support homeless individuals, immigrants, refugees, and families facing hardship. I am also a co-founder of a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through mentorship and leadership development. These experiences have reinforced my belief that everyone deserves access to opportunities that allow them to succeed regardless of their background. I understand the challenges many immigrant families face, and I hope to use my education and future career to help create pathways for others.
My mother's journey to the United States and her sacrifices as an immigrant and single parent have given me the strength to pursue my educational goals with purpose and determination. Every achievement I earn reflects not only my own hard work but also the sacrifices she made to provide me with opportunities. My goal is to honor her legacy by using my education to uplift others, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for future generations. Through perseverance, service, and education, I hope to continue the journey she began when she came to this country in search of a better life.

My journey has been shaped by perseverance, service, and a desire to create opportunities for others. When I was six years old, my father passed away, leaving my mother to raise me as a single parent. Watching her overcome financial and personal challenges while continuing to support my dreams taught me the values of resilience, compassion, and hard work. Those lessons have inspired me to pursue higher education and dedicate myself to serving my community.
Through my chosen fields of study, I hope to make a positive impact by creating businesses that bring people together, provide employment opportunities, and strengthen communities. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian-inspired restaurant that celebrates culture while serving as a platform for mentorship, job creation, and community engagement. I believe that businesses can be powerful tools for positive change when they prioritize people as much as profits. By combining my education in culinary arts, international business, and language studies, I hope to build connections across cultures and create opportunities for individuals who may not otherwise have access to them.
One of the causes I actively support is helping underserved populations, including homeless individuals, immigrants, refugees, and youth. I have volunteered with organizations that provide assistance to people facing difficult circumstances, and these experiences have deeply influenced my perspective on service. I am also proud to serve as a co-founder of a nonprofit organization focused on supporting and empowering youth. Through mentorship, leadership development, and encouragement, I have seen how even small investments in young people can produce lasting change. These causes are important to me because I understand what it means to face obstacles and rely on the support of others. This scholarship would allow me to focus more on my studies, professional development, and community service while continuing to work toward my long-term goals. More importantly, it would represent an investment in my ability to create positive change through leadership, entrepreneurship, and service.
Addie James Hamerter dedicated her life to advancing opportunities and justice for others. Her commitment to service reflects the values I strive to embody every day. Through education, volunteerism, and future business leadership, I hope to honor that legacy by creating opportunities, uplifting communities, and helping others realize their full potential. My goal is not simply to succeed for myself but to use my success to open doors for others and leave a lasting positive impact on the world.
Champions Of A New Path Scholarship
I deserve this scholarship not because I believe I am more worthy than other applicants, but because I have consistently turned adversity into motivation and opportunity into service. When I was six years old, my father passed away, leaving my mother to raise me as a single parent. Growing up in a low-income household, I witnessed firsthand the sacrifices she made to provide stability and encourage me to pursue an education. Her resilience taught me that success is not determined by circumstances but by the determination to keep moving forward despite them.
What gives me an advantage is not simply my academic performance but the purpose behind my goals. I am currently pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts and plan to continue my education in International Business and Japanese. Rather than viewing education solely as a pathway to personal success, I see it as a tool to create opportunities for others. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian-inspired restaurant that celebrates culture, creates jobs, and serves as a positive force within the community. Every class I take and every challenge I overcome brings me closer to building something that will benefit more than just myself.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have dedicated significant time to serving others. I volunteer with organizations that support homeless individuals, immigrants, refugees, and families facing hardship. I am also a co-founder of a nonprofit organization focused on supporting youth and helping them develop confidence, leadership skills, and hope for the future. These experiences have taught me that leadership is not about recognition but about creating opportunities for others to succeed. While many people have ambitions, I have already begun taking tangible steps toward making a lasting impact in my community.
This scholarship would help relieve financial burdens and allow me to continue pursuing my educational goals while expanding my service efforts. What sets me apart is the combination of perseverance, vision, and commitment to giving back. I have experienced hardship, but I have chosen not to let it define me. Instead, it has fueled my determination to build a future that honors my mother's sacrifices, serves my community, and inspires others facing similar challenges. If awarded this scholarship, I would use it not only as support for my education but also as an investment in a future dedicated to service, leadership, and creating opportunities for those who need them most.

When I was six years old, my father passed away, leaving my mother to raise me as a single parent. Despite the financial and emotional challenges she faced, she worked tirelessly to provide for our family and encouraged me to believe that education could transform my future. Watching her persevere through difficult circumstances inspired me to pursue my goals with determination and to use any success I achieve to help others.
Today, I am pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts and plan to continue my education by earning bachelor's degrees in International Business and Japanese. My educational journey is driven by more than personal achievement. I want to use my education to build businesses that create jobs, support underserved communities, and bring people together through culture and opportunity. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian-inspired restaurant that celebrates heritage while serving as a community-centered business. I envision creating employment opportunities, mentoring young people interested in entrepreneurship, and partnering with local organizations to support families facing financial hardship.
Community service has already become a major part of my life. I have volunteered with organizations that support homeless individuals, immigrants, refugees, and families in need. These experiences taught me that meaningful change often begins with small acts of service and genuine human connection. I am also proud to serve as a co-founder of a nonprofit organization focused on supporting youth. Through this work, I have helped create opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and envision a brighter future for themselves. Seeing the positive impact that mentorship and encouragement can have on a young person's life has strengthened my commitment to service and reinforced my belief that everyone deserves access to opportunities that help them succeed.

My vision for the future is to combine education, entrepreneurship, and service to create lasting change. Through business, I hope to generate opportunities. Through nonprofit work, I hope to empower young people. Through community engagement, I hope to help build stronger and more connected communities.
Like Sloane Stephens, I believe that success carries a responsibility to give back. My education will provide me with the knowledge and skills to achieve my career goals, but its greatest value will be in how I use it to serve others. By investing in others, I hope to create a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond my own success.
Sola Family Scholarship
When I was six years old, my father passed away, and my life changed forever. From that moment on, my mother became both my mother and father, carrying the responsibility of raising me and my brother on her own. As a single parent, she faced financial challenges, emotional hardships, and the pressure of providing stability for our family. Despite those obstacles, she never allowed her circumstances to define our future. Instead, she worked tirelessly to ensure I had food on the table, a roof over my head, and the encouragement to pursue my dreams. Growing up, I did not fully understand the sacrifices she made, but as I have gotten older, I have come to appreciate the incredible strength and resilience she demonstrated every day.
Being raised by a single mother taught me lessons that have shaped who I am today. I learned the importance of hard work by watching my mother continue moving forward even when life was difficult. There were times when money was tight, and she had to make sacrifices to provide for our family. Rather than complaining about her circumstances, she focused on finding solutions and creating opportunities. Her determination taught me that success is not determined by where you start but by your willingness to keep going despite challenges. Because of her example, I developed a strong work ethic, a sense of responsibility, and a belief that education can create opportunities for a better future.
My mother's influence has also inspired my educational and career goals. I am currently pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts and plan to continue my education by earning bachelor's degrees in International Business and Japanese. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian-inspired restaurant that celebrates culture, creates jobs, and serves the community. There have been moments when balancing school, work, and financial responsibilities felt overwhelming, but whenever I face difficulties, I think about the perseverance my mother demonstrated throughout my childhood. Her example reminds me that challenges are temporary and that determination can overcome obstacles. Everything I accomplish academically is a reflection of the values she worked so hard to instill in me.
Growing up with a single mother has made me more compassionate, resilient, and driven to succeed. It has taught me to appreciate the sacrifices others make and to never take opportunities for granted. Most importantly, it has inspired me to give back to my community through volunteer work with homeless individuals, immigrants, refugees, and families facing hardship. I hope to use my education and future career to create opportunities for others just as my mother created opportunities for me. While losing my father at a young age was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, my mother's unwavering love, strength, and determination transformed that hardship into a source of motivation. She is the reason I believe in perseverance, and her example will continue to guide me as I pursue my dreams and work to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Learner Online Learning Innovator Scholarship for Veterans
As a college student pursuing a Culinary Arts degree with plans to earn future degrees in International Business and Japanese, online learning tools have become an essential part of my educational journey. Growing up in a low-income, single-parent household after losing my father at the age of six, I learned early that success often requires finding creative ways to access knowledge and opportunities. Technology has allowed me to overcome many educational barriers by providing affordable, flexible, and high-quality learning resources that support both my academic goals and personal growth.
One of the most valuable online resources I use is YouTube. Through educational channels, I can access lessons on subjects ranging from mathematics and business to language learning and culinary techniques. When I encounter difficult concepts in my college courses, I often turn to YouTube tutorials that explain topics from different perspectives and provide step-by-step demonstrations. This has been especially helpful in mathematics, where visual explanations and worked examples have strengthened my understanding and confidence. Online videos have also allowed me to learn culinary skills, observe professional chefs, and explore international cuisines beyond what is available in a traditional classroom setting.
In addition to YouTube, I use online tutoring and educational platforms to strengthen my academic performance. Resources such as Math is Wise and other virtual learning tools provide practice problems, explanations, and guided instruction that help me master challenging concepts. These platforms allow me to learn at my own pace and revisit material whenever needed. As someone balancing coursework, work responsibilities, and long-term educational goals, having access to flexible online resources is incredibly important. Rather than being limited to classroom hours, I can continue learning whenever I have available time, making my education more efficient and personalized.
Technology has also played a major role in helping me apply my knowledge in real-world settings. Through online language-learning platforms, I have been able to study Japanese outside the classroom and build skills that will support my future career goals. I use digital resources to research international markets, business trends, and cultural practices that align with my interest in global business. These tools have helped me connect classroom concepts to practical applications and have prepared me for future opportunities in entrepreneurship and international collaboration. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian-inspired restaurant while building connections between cultures through business and hospitality. Online learning platforms have given me access to knowledge, mentorship, and resources that support this vision.
The accessibility and flexibility of online education have transformed my learning experience. These tools have allowed me to expand my knowledge, strengthen my academic performance, and apply what I learn to meaningful career goals. As technology continues to evolve, I look forward to using innovative learning resources to continue growing as a student, future entrepreneur, and lifelong learner. The opportunities created through online education have shown me that learning is not limited by location or circumstance but is available to anyone willing to pursue it with dedication and curiosity.
Andrea N. Santore Scholarship
My decision to pursue a career in business is deeply connected to my personal experiences, family background, and long-term goals. When I was six years old, my father passed away, leaving my mother to raise me as a single parent. Losing my father at such a young age was one of the most difficult challenges my family faced. My mother suddenly became responsible for providing emotional support, financial stability, and guidance while carrying the weight of raising a child on her own. Despite the obstacles, she never stopped encouraging me to pursue my education and believe in my future. Watching her work tirelessly to provide for our family taught me the values of resilience, sacrifice, and determination.
Growing up in a low-income household, I became aware of the financial barriers that many families face. There were times when resources were limited, and I understood that higher education would require significant effort, planning, and perseverance. Instead of allowing these challenges to discourage me, they motivated me to create a better future for myself and my family. I chose to pursue business because I am fascinated by entrepreneurship, leadership, and the ability of businesses to create opportunities for others. I believe that business is one of the most powerful tools for improving communities, creating jobs, and helping people achieve financial independence.
I am currently pursuing my education with plans to earn degrees in Culinary Arts, International Business, and Japanese. My long-term goal is to combine these fields by opening a Cambodian-inspired restaurant and eventually building a business that promotes cultural exchange and economic opportunity. Through studying business, I will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to manage finances, lead teams, develop strategic plans, and operate a successful company. My education will also help me understand international markets and build connections across cultures, allowing me to pursue opportunities both in the United States and abroad.
Earning a degree in a business-related field will have a life-changing impact on me and my family. It will provide me with the tools to achieve financial stability, break the cycle of economic hardship, and create opportunities that were not available to previous generations of my family. It will allow me to honor the sacrifices my mother made by showing that her hard work and dedication were not in vain. Beyond personal success, I hope to use my education to create jobs, mentor young people, and give back to communities that face challenges similar to those I experienced growing up. Receiving this degree will not only help me achieve my own dreams but will also position me to make a lasting difference in the lives of others. My journey has taught me that difficult circumstances do not determine a person's future. Through education, perseverance, and faith, I am determined to build a future that honors my family's sacrifices and creates opportunities for generations to come.
Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
My ultimate goal is to become an internationally minded entrepreneur who uses food, business, and cultural exchange to connect people from different backgrounds. To achieve this goal, I have developed a detailed educational and professional plan. I am currently pursuing an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts, which is providing me with the technical skills needed to work in professional kitchens and understand food service operations. After completing my associate degree, I plan to transfer to a four-year university to earn bachelor's degrees in International Business and Japanese. My long-term vision is to open a Cambodian-inspired restaurant while also developing international business relationships between the United States and Asia.
My educational plan follows a specific timeline. First, I will complete my Culinary Arts degree while maintaining strong academic performance and gaining practical work experience in restaurants and hospitality. During this time, I will continue studying Japanese independently and through formal coursework. My next step is transferring to a university where I can complete my bachelor's degrees within approximately four years. To prepare for international opportunities, I plan to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2 level and pursue study-abroad opportunities in Japan. The resources necessary for this phase include tuition, textbooks, language-learning materials, examination fees, transportation, and study-abroad expenses. My estimated annual educational budget is approximately $12,000 to $20,000 depending on tuition costs, with additional funds needed for language certification exams, professional development opportunities, and travel experiences.
After graduation, my professional plan is to gain industry experience in hospitality, international business, and food service management. I intend to work in restaurant operations and business development roles for several years to build management experience, financial knowledge, and industry connections. During this stage, I will create a detailed business plan for my future restaurant, including market research, startup costs, supplier relationships, and operational procedures. I estimate that launching a restaurant may require startup capital ranging from $100,000 to $250,000. To prepare, I plan to save aggressively, seek small business grants, pursue business loans if necessary, and build partnerships with mentors and investors. I also intend to continue volunteering in my community, particularly with organizations serving immigrants, refugees, and underserved populations, because community engagement will remain a core value of my business.
Like Joe Gilroy, I believe in planning my work and working my plan. While my primary path is clear, I have also considered alternative routes to success. If financial challenges delay my educational timeline, I will continue working while taking classes part-time. If opening a restaurant immediately after graduation is not feasible, I will gain additional management experience and strengthen my financial position before launching my business. My plan is built on flexibility, persistence, and continuous learning. This scholarship would help reduce educational expenses and allow me to focus more resources on achieving the milestones that will transform my goals into reality. Through careful planning, disciplined execution, and a commitment to serving others, I am confident that I can build a successful career that creates opportunities for both my family and my community.

Beyond academics, I am passionate about serving my community. I have volunteered with organizations that support homeless individuals, immigrants, refugees, and families facing hardship. These experiences have taught me the importance of compassion, leadership, and giving back. Seeing the challenges that many people face has inspired me to pursue a career that combines business, culture, and service. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian restaurant that celebrates my heritage while creating jobs and opportunities within the community. I also hope to use my knowledge of international business and language studies to build connections across cultures and contribute to a more inclusive and globally connected society.
Receiving this scholarship would have a meaningful impact on both my educational journey and career goals. Financial support would allow me to focus more on my studies, professional development, and community involvement rather than the burden of educational expenses. More importantly, this scholarship would serve as an investment in my future and affirm that my dreams are worth pursuing. As a woman of color and a first-generation college student, I hope to become an example for others who may question whether their goals are attainable. Through education, leadership, and service, I plan to create opportunities for others while building a successful career that reflects my values and dedication. This scholarship would bring me one step closer to achieving those goals and making a lasting impact on my community.
Charlene K. Howard Chogo Scholarship
Women's empowerment begins with creating opportunities for women to believe in themselves and pursue their goals regardless of their circumstances. Throughout my life, I have worked to encourage and support women in my community through volunteer service, mentorship, and leadership. As a student pursuing higher education and someone who is passionate about helping others, I understand how important it is for women to have positive role models and support systems. My goal has always been to uplift women by showing them that education, hard work, and faith can open doors to a brighter future.
One of the ways I have contributed to women's empowerment is through my volunteer work serving homeless individuals, immigrants, refugees, and low-income families in my community. Many of the women I have met face significant challenges, including financial hardship, language barriers, and limited access to educational opportunities. Through acts of service, encouragement, and support, I have helped create a welcoming environment where women feel valued and respected. Whether providing meals, assisting with community outreach programs, or simply listening to someone's story, I have learned that empowerment often begins with making people feel seen and heard. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to helping women overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.
Education is another area where I strive to make an impact. As a Culinary Arts student working toward future bachelor's degrees in International Business and Japanese, I hope to demonstrate to young women that ambitious goals are achievable with dedication and perseverance. Many women, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, may doubt their ability to succeed in higher education or competitive careers. By sharing my educational journey and continuing to pursue my own goals, I hope to inspire other women to invest in themselves and pursue opportunities that can transform their lives. I believe education is one of the most powerful tools for empowerment because it creates independence, confidence, and the ability to make meaningful contributions to society.
Looking ahead, I plan to continue empowering women through leadership, service, and entrepreneurship. My long-term goal is to open a Cambodian restaurant and create opportunities for women through employment, mentorship, and professional development. I also hope to use my education and experiences to advocate for greater access to educational and economic opportunities for women from diverse backgrounds. The legacy of Charlene K. Howard reminds us that one person can positively influence countless lives through education and encouragement. I am committed to carrying that legacy forward by empowering women to recognize their potential, pursue their dreams, and become leaders in their own communities.
Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
When I first heard jealousy, jealousy by Olivia Rodrigo, I felt like someone had finally put words to emotions I had struggled to explain for years. The lyric, “I kinda wanna throw my phone across the room, ‘cause all I see are girls too good to be true,” perfectly captures the pressure of constantly comparing yourself to others. As a student trying to balance school, future goals, and personal growth, I have often felt overwhelmed by the expectations created through social media and society. Olivia Rodrigo’s music helped me realize that these insecurities are not something I experience alone.
As someone pursuing higher education while also trying to discover who I want to become, I have faced moments of self-doubt. It can be difficult watching other people appear successful, confident, or “perfect” online while secretly struggling with your own fears about the future. There were times when I questioned whether I was talented enough, hardworking enough, or capable of reaching my goals. Listening to Olivia’s music gave me comfort because her lyrics are honest and unfiltered. Instead of pretending to have everything figured out, she openly discusses jealousy, heartbreak, insecurity, and confusion. That honesty inspired me to stop measuring my worth against everyone else’s highlight reel.
Another lyric that deeply resonates with me comes from the grudge: “You built me up to watch me fall.” While many listeners may connect this line to heartbreak, I relate it to the disappointment that can come from relationships, friendships, and even personal expectations. Throughout my journey, I have experienced moments where I felt let down by people I trusted or discouraged when things did not go according to plan. However, those experiences taught me resilience. Instead of allowing setbacks to define me, I learned to keep pushing forward and focus on becoming stronger.
What makes Olivia Rodrigo such a powerful artist is her ability to transform painful emotions into something meaningful. Her songs remind listeners that vulnerability is not weakness. In fact, being honest about emotions can help people heal and connect with others. As I continue pursuing my education and future career goals, I carry that lesson with me. I want to approach life authentically instead of pretending to be perfect.
Olivia Rodrigo’s music has influenced the way I view myself and my experiences. Her lyrics taught me that insecurity, disappointment, and fear are natural parts of growing up, but they do not have to stop someone from achieving their dreams. Through her music, I learned the importance of self-acceptance and perseverance. Even during difficult moments, there is strength in continuing to move forward and embracing who you are becoming.
Michael Rudometkin Memorial Scholarship
Selflessness, to me, means being willing to support others even when no recognition is expected in return. It means understanding that success is not only about personal achievement, but also about the positive impact we leave on the people around us. Throughout my life, I have tried to embody this mindset through service, compassion, and perseverance in both my personal and academic journey in culinary arts and own my own non-profit. One of the biggest ways I practice selflessness is through community service and helping others whenever I can. Whether through volunteer opportunities, supporting people emotionally, or helping classmates and coworkers during stressful situations, I believe small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. I have learned that many people carry struggles that are not always visible, so treating others with patience, respect, and empathy is important to me.\n\nDuring my educational journey in culinary arts, I have also learned how service and teamwork are essential parts of helping others. In the kitchen, success depends on collaboration and supporting one another under pressure. I often try to step in and help teammates when tasks become overwhelming because I understand that working together creates a stronger environment for everyone. Culinary arts has taught me discipline, humility, and the importance of serving others through hospitality.\n\nI also embody selflessness through perseverance and dedication to my long-term goals. Pursuing higher education while balancing financial responsibilities and future ambitions has not always been easy. There have been moments where stress and uncertainty made the journey difficult, but I continued moving forward because I believe my goals can eventually allow me to help others in meaningful ways. I plan to continue my education beyond culinary arts by studying International Business and Japanese so I can create opportunities that connect culture, creativity, and community. One example of altruism that stands out to me is helping others even when I had my own responsibilities to manage. There have been times when friends, classmates, or coworkers needed emotional support, encouragement, or practical help during difficult situations, and I chose to make time for them because I know how important it is to feel supported. Sometimes simply listening to someone, encouraging them, or helping them through a stressful moment can make a bigger difference than people realize. Michael Rudometkin’s legacy is inspiring because it reflects the importance of relationships, compassion, and making the world better through everyday actions. I strongly connect with the idea that life is about more than grades or achievements. True success comes from how we treat people, how we support our communities, and how we use our passions to uplift others. In the future, I hope to use my education and career to continue helping people through hospitality, mentorship, and community involvement. I want to create environments where people feel welcomed, valued, and inspired. Through hard work, compassion, and service, I hope to leave a positive impact on others just as Michael Rudometkin did throughout his life.
Pierson Family Scholarship for U.S. Studies
Growing up with Cambodian roots has shaped my values, perspective, and determination to pursue higher education in the United States. My background taught me the importance of resilience, sacrifice, and hard work because many immigrant families understand what it means to overcome hardship in order to create better opportunities for future generations. My educational journey has been motivated by the desire to build a successful future while honoring the sacrifices my family has made. I am currently pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts at Central Piedmont Community College and plan to continue my education in International Business and Japanese at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I chose this path because I believe food, culture, and business have the power to connect people from different backgrounds. Growing up around Cambodian culture helped me appreciate how food carries history, identity, and community. That understanding inspired me to pursue culinary arts not only as a career, but also as a way to preserve and share my culture with others.\n\nOne of my biggest dreams is to eventually open my own Cambodian restaurant. Cambodian cuisine is often underrepresented, and I want to create a space where people can experience the richness of Cambodian culture, hospitality, and traditions through food. I hope my future restaurant can become more than just a business—I want it to be a place that brings people together and introduces others to the beauty of Cambodia. One of the biggest challenges I have faced has been balancing financial hardship with pursuing higher education. Coming from a low-income background means constantly thinking about tuition, living expenses, and long-term stability while trying to stay focused on academics. There have been moments when balancing school, work, and financial responsibilities felt overwhelming, but those experiences taught me resilience, discipline, and perseverance. My family inspires me the most because of their sacrifices and determination. Watching them continue to work hard despite obstacles taught me the importance of gratitude and persistence. Their example motivates me to pursue goals that can create a better future not only for myself, but also for my community.\n\nOutside of school, I have dedicated time to serving homeless individuals, immigrants, and refugees in Charlotte through organizations such as Project 658 and Anchor International. These experiences showed me how important compassion and community support are, especially for people who often feel overlooked. They also inspired me to use my future career to positively impact others.\n\nAfter graduation, I plan to combine culinary arts, international business, and cultural influence to build a career centered around hospitality, creativity, and community impact. Through my future Cambodian restaurant and other business goals, I hope to create opportunities for others while sharing my culture in a meaningful way. Higher education in the United States represents opportunity, growth, and the ability to create meaningful change. Through hard work, education, and perseverance, I hope to honor my Cambodian heritage while building a future that positively impacts others.

Going to college means opportunity, growth, and the chance to create a better future not only for myself, but also for the people and communities around me. As a minority student, higher education represents more than earning a degree—it represents breaking barriers, building stability, and proving that determination and hard work can create new possibilities despite challenges. For me, college is the foundation for turning my passions into a meaningful career and lasting impact. I am currently pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts at Central Piedmont Community College, and I plan to continue my education by earning bachelor’s degrees in International Business and Japanese at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My education is helping me combine creativity, leadership, culture, and entrepreneurship into goals that once felt distant but are now becoming achievable through persistence and discipline. Growing up, I understood that opportunities are not always equally accessible for everyone. Many minority students face financial obstacles, limited resources, and pressures that can make higher education feel overwhelming. Because of this, attending college means proving to myself that those obstacles do not have to define my future. It means creating a path that can inspire others who may come from similar backgrounds and encouraging them to believe their goals are possible as well. Through college, I am trying to accomplish more than academic success. I want to build a future where I can create opportunities for others through business, hospitality, and community involvement. Culinary arts has taught me the value of service, teamwork, and cultural connection. Food has the power to bring people together regardless of their background, and I hope to use my career to create environments where people feel welcomed, respected, and inspired. Outside of school, I have also been involved in serving homeless individuals, immigrants, and refugees in Charlotte through nonprofit and community work. Those experiences taught me that success is not only about personal achievement—it is also about how you use your knowledge and resources to uplift others. Seeing people persevere through hardship motivated me to continue working toward a future where I can make a positive difference in my community. College has also helped me develop resilience and confidence. Balancing academics, work, and long-term goals has required sacrifice and perseverance, but those challenges have strengthened my work ethic and determination. Every class, work shift, and obstacle has taught me valuable lessons about discipline and responsibility. Ultimately, what I am trying to accomplish through my education is the ability to create a meaningful life that combines creativity, cultural understanding, leadership, and service. I want to build a career that allows me to support my family, inspire younger students, and contribute positively to the world around me. Going to college is helping me transform my ambitions into reality and giving me the tools to create opportunities that extend beyond myself.
Hampton Roads Unity "Be a Pillar" Scholarship
Growing up, one of the most meaningful influences in my life came from members of the LGBTQIA+ community who showed me the importance of authenticity, compassion, and standing up for others even when facing judgment or misunderstanding. Their courage deeply impacted the way I see people, community, and activism today.\n\nOne experience that especially shaped me was working and volunteering alongside LGBTQIA+ individuals through community outreach and food service programs in Charlotte. While serving homeless individuals, immigrants, and refugees through organizations such as Project 658 and Anchor International, I met people from many different backgrounds and identities who often faced discrimination, rejection, or isolation. Some members of the LGBTQIA+ community shared stories about struggling to feel accepted by society, family members, or even within spaces that were supposed to feel safe.\n\nHearing those experiences changed my perspective because I realized how important simple acts of kindness, respect, and inclusion can be. Many of the people I worked alongside carried emotional pain that others could not immediately see, yet they still showed resilience, generosity, and compassion toward others. Their ability to continue loving and supporting people despite hardship inspired me deeply. One person in particular impacted me through their openness and confidence in being themselves. Watching them navigate judgment while still choosing kindness and authenticity showed me what real strength looks like. They taught me that activism is not always loud—it can also be found in everyday actions such as creating welcoming spaces, defending others when they are disrespected, and making sure people feel seen and valued. That experience motivated me to become more intentional about supporting inclusivity and standing up for marginalized communities. Through volunteering and nonprofit work, I have tried to embody those values by helping create environments where people from all backgrounds feel respected and supported. Whether serving meals, mentoring others, or simply listening to someone’s story, I believe activism begins with humanity and empathy. As someone pursuing culinary arts, I also believe food and hospitality can become powerful forms of activism and connection. Food brings people together regardless of identity, culture, or background. In my future career, I hope to create spaces where diversity is celebrated and where everyone feels welcomed without fear of judgment. I want my future businesses and community work to reflect acceptance, creativity, and compassion. Outside of school and work, I continue to stay involved in community service because I believe positive change happens when people choose to care for one another. The LGBTQIA+ community has shown me the importance of resilience, authenticity, and advocating for people whose voices are often overlooked. In the future, I hope to continue using my education, nonprofit involvement, and career to uplift others and encourage greater understanding between communities. Activism, to me, means creating environments where people are safe to be themselves and where kindness is stronger than division. The experiences I have had with members of the LGBTQIA+ community continue to inspire me to help build that kind of world.

I am currently a Culinary Arts student at Central Piedmont Community College while also preparing to pursue bachelor’s degrees in International Business and Japanese at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. decided to pursue an education in the culinary arts because cooking has always felt like more than just preparing food—it is a way to connect with people, express creativity, and create experiences that bring comfort and joy. Food has the ability to bring together people from different cultures and backgrounds, and that sense of connection inspired me to turn my passion into a career. Culinary arts gives me the opportunity to combine creativity, discipline, leadership, and service in a field that constantly challenges me to grow. Chef Marco “Gabby” Pantano Memorial Scholarship
WinnerAt a young age, food has been deeply connected to love, memory, and purpose in my life. I remember cooking scrambled eggs with my father for the first time when I was very young. Not long after that moment, he passed away from a heart attack during a mission trip in Cambodia. Although my time with him was short, that memory in the kitchen stayed with me. It became a reminder that food is more than nourishment—it is connection and comfort.
As someone who is half Cambodian and half American, the kitchen became the place where I could most fully experience my culture. Even when I was not in Cambodia or speaking the language, I could reconnect with my heritage through flavors, techniques, and traditions. Cooking allowed me to embrace both sides of my identity and transform them into something creative and meaningful. Over time, I realized that food holds a kind of quiet power. It can communicate care without words, bring people together across cultures, and create a sense of home for those who need it most.
My professional culinary journey began at Project 658 Inc., where I worked as a line cook, catering server, and event assistant. In this fast-paced environment, I prepared a wide range of dishes and plated large volumes of food for events. I also trained new team members and assisted with event production. These experiences strengthened my leadership skills, adaptability, and ability to remain focused under pressure. More importantly, they showed me how impactful food can be. I saw guests light up over a thoughtfully prepared meal, and I understood that I wanted to dedicate my life to creating those moments for others.
Currently, I am pursuing an Associate degree in Culinary Arts while also working toward a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Japanese. This combination reflects both my ambition and my long-term vision. I am not only committed to mastering culinary techniques, but also to understanding the global food industry and cross-cultural communication. My drive pushes me to go beyond the kitchen and prepare myself to one day operate my own internationally inspired bakery, café, and restaurant. I envision a space that blends Cambodian, Asian, and global influences—where breads, pastries, and savory dishes honor tradition while introducing guests to new flavors. I want it to be more than a business; I want it to be a welcoming environment where people from all backgrounds feel at home.
The legacy of chefs like Marco “Gabby” Pantano, who dedicated over thirty-five years to sharing his passion for food, deeply inspires me. His life represents what I aspire to become: a chef who not only builds a career, but also builds community through culinary excellence. Like him, I want my work to reflect dedication, generosity, and love for the craft.
I am a strong candidate for this scholarship because of my ambition, drive, and unwavering passion for the culinary arts. I have already committed myself fully to this path through education, hands-on experience, and long-term planning. Despite financial challenges, I continue to pursue every opportunity to grow and refine my skills. This scholarship would not only ease the financial burden of culinary school, but also affirm that my dedication and goals are worthy of investment.
Culinary arts is not simply my chosen career—it is my purpose. Through discipline, creativity, and perseverance, I am determined to honor my father’s memory, celebrate my cultural heritage, and contribute meaningfully to the culinary world. With the support of this scholarship, I will continue striving to become a chef who uplifts others, just as Chef Marco Pantano did throughout his life.

I have constantly been exposed to different cultural cuisines from around the world since I was very young. Therefore, I enjoy creating and preparing exotic food/dishes from different countries. Delicious food has always been instrumental in gathering together with friends, family, or community and creating heartwarming memories. My future goal is to open up an International Cuisine restaurant where people from all walks of life and ethnicities can come together to enjoy a variety of delicious cultural dishes. Also, the clientele will learn about the origination and ingredients of each dish. In my future restaurants, the clientele will have opportunities to enjoy cooking classes offered by Master Chefs. These classes will be offered in top-notched, fully equipped kitchens where various cuisines can be practiced and then enjoyed. My goal is to expand Internationally and offer cooking classes in more than just one language. Attending Johnson & Wales University will enable me to perfect my craft, skills, and grow exponentially into a Master Chef and as a Master Entrepreneur.
I have had many opportunities to learn and glean from different (ethnic) master chefs at a local nonprofit for several years. Initially, it was important for me to learn the basics of sanitation, safety, the food/ beverage preparation process in the kitchen; and then lead as an Event Coordinator. Additionally, I have had opportunities of serving during banquets for the Coca-Cola Company, Novant Health Services, the YMCA, non-profits and for-profit organizations. As a non-profit, we are able to prepare delicious meals for the homeless and marginalized populations that are in need of a good, hot meal. This is my future goal in life and how it will be instrumental in impacting not only my life but also the lives of others.

I don’t just have one art piece, but multiple from Southeast Asian cultures. Growing up, my mom and I established a non-profit organization that welcomes newly-arrived refugees from Southeast Asia, assisting them with assimilation here in America. We provide Citizenship and English language classes where they learn the laws of the land, the history/ foundation of the United States, and the English language. We also network with various agencies to provide guidance in employment/ career planning, housing, education, and other social services. It is incredible how you can teach others, but in return, learn so much more from their life experiences. I have heard countless stories from my friends and their parents about how they had to flee from their beautiful homelands because of the now war-torn countries. Some children and their parents are beaten and killed because of their ethnicity and political & religious beliefs. Groups of people fled their country in terror, leaving their homes, possessions, and sometimes family members to save their lives. I hope to continue bringing awareness in communities-at-large about the indigenous & marginalized groups from around the world that have become our new friendly neighbors. We enjoy hosting charity events where diverse groups interact and exchange life events of how and why they needed to start a new life in a new country. The events include a variety of ethnic cuisines, multi-cultural dances, music, native clothing, traditions, history, languages, and art panting.
The photo below is from my mission trip in 2019 to Cambodia of a temple in Phnom Penh. I had a wonderful time helping orphans and children in poor environments in every province we visited. My group would play fun little skits and give toys and clothes to the orphanages. This trip was a life-changing experience that I hope to do again!

Also, In volunteering with other non-profits, we mentored refugees, at-risk children, and youth and trained them in the restaurant industry. We taught how to prepare hot meals for the homeless population and provide clothes and goods to each one. The new students then joined instructional cooking classes, food safety & sanitation classes, and event planning classes to earn a certificate of completion. Some students were passionate about the restaurant industry due to their experiences and later pursued a similar career. Helping others gives a sense of self-accomplishment, motivation, destiny, and determination!

The events include a variety of ethnic cuisines, multi-cultural dances, music, native clothing, traditions, history, languages, and arts & crafts.
In volunteering with non-profits, we mentored refugees, at-risk children, and youth and trained them in different industry. We taught how to prepare hot meals for the homeless population and provide clothes and goods to each one. Helping others gives a sense of self-accomplishment, motivation, destiny, and determination!
Bold Simple Pleasures Scholarship
I have always been exposed to different cultural cuisines from around the world since I was very young. Therefore, I enjoy learning how to create and prepare exotic food/dishes from different countries. Delicious food has always been instrumental in gathering together with friends, family, or community and creating heartwarming memories. My future goal is to open up an International Cuisine restaurant where people from all walks of life and ethnicities can come together to enjoy a variety of delicious, cultural dishes.
For several years, I have had many opportunities to learn and glean from different (ethnic) master chefs at a local nonprofit. Initially, it was important for me to learn the basics of sanitation, safety, the food/ beverage preparation process in the kitchen; and then lead as an Event Coordinator. Additionally, I have had opportunities of serving during banquets for the Coca-Cola Company, the YMCA, and other non-profits, and for-profit organizations. It is a great learning experience to also serve at weddings, receptions, fundraisers, birthdays, bridal showers, quinceanera, graduation parties, private schools, police department functions, and a variety of other events. I am excited to build upon a much-needed industry and look forward to sharing success with others. This is how much this is what my passion means to me, and how it will be instrumental in impacting not only my life but also the lives of others.

Bold Growth Mindset Scholarship
Having a growth mindset is vital in this generation as millennials and Gen z living in the social media world. We constantly see our friends and people that we follow show how they succeed in their goals in life. I guess that is one major issue for this generation. But I have made a habit of training my brain not to let those thoughts into my head, and instead, I say, "Working hard on how you perceive things and responding in a positive way is more important in life than wishing for something that someone else has."
Having a growth mindset means believing that you can learn anything if you are sufficiently motivated. It means putting in the effort despite the risk of failure. And most importantly, it means knowing that making mistakes doesn't mean that you have failed, but it means that you have the opportunity to grow. In the world of the fixed mindset, perfection is crucial, and it must be instantaneous. By choosing to develop a growth mindset, you choose to work for growth rather than the fear of failure. The way you think is how you react to a challenging situation in life. If You believe that you can change your "failures," it will show you a new path to success.
Bold Patience Matters Scholarship
Having a patient mindset is essential as the world has more matter come into the light. Covid-19 has halted a lot of activities for everybody. I also had many events planned for my High school graduation ceremony and mission trip helping children in the orphanage in Cambodia. Even though it was unfortunate, I had to let those events be rescheduled. It taught me the significance of having patience. I was accustomed to wanting everything right here and right now, but that is not always how it works. It takes time to build anything of significance in life. Patience is essential in life because if we try to make something happen, we put a lot of stress on ourselves. Life is not always about living in the future or the past. Life is about accepting the present moment. Patience is probably the biggest lesson for any individual to learn because if we constantly Practice having patience, We become infinitely merciful, accepting, and forgiving of unfortunate situations.
Also, patience is necessary for success. I love the proverb by Lady Mary Montgomerie Currie,” All good things come to those who wait” patience takes time to learn if you aren’t born with it. You have to be able to trust and wait. Being patient brings peace of mind.

My favorite scientist is Albert Einstein, the first thing I said when I saw a picture of Albert Einstein was this guy looked like a homeless man. But I quickly found out that he had dyslexia. Einstein had a difficult time speaking until he was nearly six years old. I also struggle with reading and writing. But when I studied about Albert Einstein, I found it so impressive that he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics, and he always quoted numerous inspirational words. Every time I read his quotes in particular, "The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination." this always helps me to have a mindset to imagine and constantly create new things in life.
Act Locally Scholarship
The changes I would desire most to see in my community, the country, and the world would be to enjoy the beauty of diversity and warmly welcome global inclusion. Everyone is respected and appreciated for who they are and would feel comfortable building long-lasting friendships. This is why I have whole-heartedly chosen this career which allows me to inspire and help others.

I had the opportunity to volunteer for other non-profit organizations. One, in particular, allowed me to train in the restaurant industry, learning to cook various cuisines; plus, learn of food safety & sanitation, knife skills, event management, and leadership skills. Upon earning a certificate, I fell in love with creating and preparing dishes from different countries. I realized this was another way to enjoy diversity and cultures. Delicious food has always been instrumental in gathering friends, family, or community together and creating heartwarming memories to build relationships. People from all walks of life and ethnicities can come together to enjoy a variety of delicious cultural dishes.

In volunteering with other non-profits, we mentored refugees, at-risk children, and youth and trained them in the restaurant industry.
