As a first-generation college student, my passion for business stems from a desire to create opportunities not only for myself but also for others in my community. Growing up as the daughter of Bosnian immigrants who overcame the struggles of war, I witnessed firsthand the resilience it takes to rebuild and thrive in the face of adversity. My single father, who has always been my source of strength, instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and giving back. As a first generation American to Bosnian refugees, I’ve seen how much my community has struggled with the disadvantages that war has brought to them. Seeing those around me struggle in a new country with their homes burned down and no other choice but to keep trying in a new country encouraged me to want to make a difference in the future for Bosnian people and my community alike. These values are at the heart of my decision to pursue a degree in business. I believe business is a powerful tool for change. With my education, I aim to uplift underserved communities by fostering small businesses, promoting financial literacy, and creating pathways for economic growth. I hope to one day become an entrepreneur, inspired by my father’s dreams and Boyd J. Cameron’s legacy. My goal is to establish a business that not only provides employment but also invests in the local community through mentorship programs, scholarships, and initiatives to empower young people. I want to use my platform to inspire others, especially first-generation students like me, to believe in their potential and take steps toward building a better future. Through my education in business, I am gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to turn my vision into reality. I plan to specialize in areas like entrepreneurship and community development to better understand how to create sustainable businesses that prioritize both profit and purpose. Boyd J. Cameron’s dedication to his family and community resonates deeply with me, and I am committed to honoring his legacy by using my education to positively impact those around me. This scholarship would not only help me achieve my academic goals but also support my mission to make a lasting difference in my community. With your support, I can continue to work toward becoming a business leader who brings hope, opportunity, and growth to those who need it most. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship.
