    My name is Sebastian Matta, I'm a senior at Anaheim High School who's committed to Cal State Fullerton as a Business Student interested in Finance. I was born in Chiapas, Mexico and moved to the United States when I was 5. I lived in South Central LA before moving to Anaheim. My parents felt that Anaheim would be a safer place to live, open opportunities for my older sister and I, and also allow my dad to have a shorter commute to work. I attended local schools in our community, Thomas Edison for the rest of elementary and Sycamore Junior High for middle school. In the future, I want to be a mentor and a source of inspiration for other high schoolers in my community. As of now, I'm thinking of going into real estate or education; I would like to one day return Anaheim HS as an assistant principal ,or be a real estate broker with a firm. As a broker, I would provide internship opportunities exclusively for AHS students, as internships have positively impacted my life. As an assistant principal, I would work to get more students involved on campus while simultaneously improving family engagement. As a student, I've noticed that it becomes a challenge to effectively communicate with families, as most of the information is sent out via email. To be an assistant principal I'd have to teach for a minimum of 5 years, in which I would take advantage of to use my finance degree to teach seniors the importance of financial literacy and wealth. Many students at AHS have a similar background as myself, we come from homes where money isn't talked about, but always worried about. Throughout my years at the largest high-school in the Anaheim Union High School District, I've been extremely involved with the community my school is located in, the 92805 zip code. Just two years ago, my school became the first Community High School in Orange County, something that I later found meant a huge advantage in terms of resources for our neediest students/families. The majority of my work these past 2 years have focused on answering the following questions: How can I make sure students know about all of the resources and opportunities offered at our school and within our district? I was appointed Student Ambassador for the 2021-2022 school year, one of the most rewarding opportunities I’ve been given at Anaheim High School. As Student Ambassador, I learned about even more amazing involvement opportunities for our students on campus. This led to me becoming part of the PTSA and attending every meeting they’ve had this year, reporting to our parents and families about the amazing events going on at the colony from a student perspective. Through my involvement in BROS and being Student Ambassador, I’ve worked closely with our Community Schools Coordinator, Mrs. Tanya Garcia, for the past 2 years to ensure students are being informed of the resources available to them on campus and students know what makes Anaheim HS different as a community school. This year I was invited to join the Community School Site Advisory Board, a Taskforce composed of site admin, teachers, staff, and student leaders, facilitated by our Community Schools Coordinator. This position that has allowed me to advocate even more for improved communication from our school to our families regarding events, campus updates, food distributions, etc. I’ve gone to Anaheim High School for all 4 years of my high school career; being at a school where so many students are low-income has definitely shaped me into the person that I am today.
