Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
Being a fan of Sabrina Carpenter isn’t just about liking her songs. It’s about how she helped me through one of the hardest times in my life. When I listen to her music, I feel seen, understood, and inspired to keep going, even when things don’t feel easy. When her album Short n’ Sweet came out, I was going through a really bad breakup. It left me lost, sad, and honestly, unsure of what to do with my life. I listened to that album nonstop. The songs felt like someone was finally saying what I was too afraid to say out loud. Sabrina mixed pain, humor, and confidence in a way that reminded me heartbreak isn’t the end of you. Songs like “Taste” and “Please Please Please” helped me realize that moving on doesn’t mean forgetting someone, it means choosing yourself again.During that time, I could’ve let the sadness take over. I was close to giving up on my goals. But watching Sabrina continue to grow and own who she is, no matter what people say about her, pushed me to do the same. Her confidence and the way she keeps evolving in her career made me want to take control of my own future. That’s what gave me the courage to apply to technical school. I decided that even though I was hurting, I still had a purpose and a path worth chasing.
What I admire most about Sabrina is how she’s never been afraid to be herself. She’s funny, honest, and strong. She shows that you can be vulnerable and still powerful. That’s something I try to remember every day, whether I’m struggling through a class or just trying to get through a tough day. Her music reminds me to show up for myself, even when no one else does.
Being a Sabrina Carpenter fan has taught me that growth doesn’t happen all at once. It’s about learning, failing, and trying again. Her career showed me that it’s okay to be a work in progress, and that I can turn pain into motivation. If it weren’t for her music and message, I might have let that depression win. Instead, I’m building something better for myself.Sabrina Carpenter’s music helped me find my strength again. She turned heartbreak into art, and I turned mine into drive. That’s why I’ll always be a fan because she helped me remember that I’m capable of more than I ever thought I was.
Track to the Trades
WinnerWhen I decided to pursue a career in the trades, it was not just about learning to fix wires or install lighting it was about rebuilding something much bigger, stability, purpose, and community. Growing up in Staten Island, New York, I saw firsthand how powerful trade workers are, especially after Hurricane Sandy. When our neighborhood was hit hard, it wasn’t corporate offices that restored the power or cleaned the flooded basements. It was electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and builders ordinary people with extraordinary skills who helped bring our lives back to normal. That experience left a deep mark on me and inspired my decision to study electrical work at Lincoln Tech.
My goal is to become a licensed electrician, gain experience in the field, and eventually grow into a project management role by the time I turn 40. I want to lead with both skill and compassion, managing teams that not only build and repair but also uplift communities. The trades represent opportunity to me, an opportunity to create something real with my hands, see the results of my work, and build a stable life while contributing something meaningful to society.
At Lincoln Tech, I’ve been learning electrical theory, wiring, safety, and power systems. Every wire I run or outlet I install connects to a bigger system that keeps homes and businesses functioning safely. That’s a responsibility I take seriously. I want to keep improving my technical skills while also developing leadership and communication abilities that will prepare me to manage complex projects in the future.
This scholarship would make a huge difference in helping me reach those goals. Balancing school and finances has been challenging. I’ve had to cut down work hours to stay focused on my studies, and it’s been tough keeping up with rent and other essentials. Receiving this scholarship would relieve some of that financial pressure, allowing me to dedicate more time to my education and hands-on training. It would also remind me that people believe in what I’m working toward.
Beyond my own goals, I see a career in the trades as a way to give back. After Hurricane Sandy, I realized how vulnerable families are when essential systems fail. I want to use my skills to prevent that kind of hardship whether by ensuring safe electrical systems in homes, volunteering for rebuild projects, or mentoring future trade students. One day, I hope to start a small electrical contracting business that provides affordable services and apprenticeship opportunities for local youth.
The trades gave me a second chance to find purpose, and I want to pass that forward. Every lesson I learn and every project I complete brings me closer to a career built on hard work, reliability, and service. This scholarship would help me stay on that path toward becoming a skilled electrician, a dependable leader, and someone who uses their trade to strengthen their community. This scholarship will help me power my future, build stronger communities, and prove that dedication and hard work create opportunity.
Slater Miller Memorial Scholarship
Growing up in Staten Island, I learned early on how much communities depend on skilled tradespeople. Electricians, plumbers, and builders are the ones who keep everything running safely and reliably. I chose to pursue a career in the trades because I want to be one of those people — someone who can solve problems, help others, and build something that lasts.
My decision to become an electrician is deeply connected to my experience during Hurricane Sandy. When the storm hit in 2012, it left many neighborhoods in darkness. Homes were flooded, power lines were down, and people were scared. But what stood out to me most were the workers and volunteers who showed up to rebuild. Electricians worked around the clock to restore power and bring light back into people’s homes. Seeing them in action made a huge impact on me. They weren’t just fixing wires — they were helping families feel safe again. That moment taught me that tradespeople don’t just work with their hands; they help rebuild lives.
Over the years, I’ve worked in construction, manufacturing, and customer service, and each experience has strengthened my interest in electrical work. At Niagara Bottling, I operated machinery and performed quality checks that required focus, safety, and teamwork. In construction, I learned how to handle tools properly and follow safety procedures. These jobs showed me that I enjoy hands-on work, problem-solving, and creating something tangible. They also prepared me for the dedication and discipline it takes to succeed in the electrical field.
At Lincoln Tech, where I’m studying Electrical and Electronic Systems Technology, I’ve found purpose and direction. Every class and lab brings me closer to my goal of becoming a licensed electrician and, one day, a project manager. The program is challenging, but it’s also rewarding to see my skills grow. This scholarship would allow me to focus fully on my training without constantly worrying about financial setbacks. With reduced work hours, it’s been hard to keep up with rent, bills, and the cost of tools and transportation. Support from this scholarship would ease that burden and help me stay on track toward graduation.
Beyond personal success, I want to use my training to give back to my community. Staten Island still has areas vulnerable to power outages and flooding, and I hope to use my skills to modernize electrical systems and promote energy efficiency. I’m also passionate about helping others prepare for emergencies and plan to volunteer in community rebuilding and repair programs. I want to be part of the next generation of tradespeople who not only work with skill, but also with compassion and purpose.
What makes me different is my determination to keep going, no matter the obstacles. I’ve faced financial struggles, but I’ve never given up on my education or goals. I’m fluent in English and Spanish, reliable, and eager to keep learning. I take pride in being the kind of person others can count on — whether it’s in the classroom, on the job, or in my community.
For me, pursuing a career in the trades means more than learning a skill — it means being ready to help when people need it most. Hurricane Sandy showed me the power of skilled hands and kind hearts working together. That’s the kind of electrician I want to be — one who brings light, safety, and hope wherever it’s needed
Courtney R. Smith Trades Scholarship
Pursuing my education in the electrical field has been one of the most meaningful steps I’ve taken toward building a better future for myself and my community. I’m currently enrolled in the Electrical and Electronic Systems Technology program at Lincoln Tech, with an expected graduation date of October 2026. My goal is to become a licensed electrician and eventually a project manager who contributes to large-scale electrical and construction projects. This scholarship would not only ease my financial burden but also allow me to stay focused on my education and training so I can reach those goals without falling behind.
How this scholarship will assist me with my studies
Right now, every dollar I earn goes toward basic living costs like rent, food, and transportation. I used to work five days a week for twelve-hour shifts, but recently my hours were cut down to only two days a week for about five hours each day. That drop in income has made it extremely difficult to cover all my expenses while also staying on top of school requirements. There are days when I have to choose between buying supplies for class or paying a bill, and those are stressful moments that distract from my studies.
Receiving this scholarship would relieve a huge portion of that pressure. I would be able to purchase the tools, protective gear, and materials I need for my electrical training without worrying about falling behind on essentials. It would also help me keep my internet connection active, which is something I rely on daily for research, online assignments, and communication with instructors. On top of that, I’m currently trying to fix my driver’s license and get my New York State ID, which are both necessary for many job applications and apprenticeship opportunities. Financial help from this scholarship would allow me to take care of those responsibilities so I can stay focused on progressing toward my goal of graduation and career stability.
How I will use this scholarship to advance my community and chosen field
My long-term goal is not only to become a certified electrician but to use my skills to give back to my community in Staten Island and beyond. I’ve always admired how tradespeople are at the heart of every community—keeping the lights on, ensuring buildings are safe, and helping neighborhoods function day to day. After completing my program and gaining more experience, I plan to get involved in local improvement projects, especially those that help low-income families or older residents who can’t afford repairs or upgrades to their electrical systems.
Another way I want to make an impact is by helping to promote energy efficiency and sustainability. Many homes and small businesses in my area still rely on outdated electrical systems that waste energy and increase costs. I’d like to use my training to help modernize those systems and introduce safer, more efficient solutions. In addition, I want to encourage younger people, especially those who might not feel college is the right path for them, to look into the trades. Too often, young adults overlook skilled trades because they think success only comes from a traditional college degree. I’ve learned firsthand that the trades offer incredible opportunities for growth, creativity, and financial independence. With experience and confidence, I hope to eventually mentor or train others who are just starting out, passing on the same support and guidance I’ve received.
My motivations to pursue the electrical field
My motivation to pursue electrical work comes from both personal curiosity and a desire for stability. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been fascinated by how things work. I used to take apart small electronics just to see what was inside and how they were connected. That curiosity stayed with me as I grew older, but it wasn’t until I started working in different hands-on jobs that I realized how much I enjoy problem-solving and working with tools.
Over the years, I’ve built a strong foundation of practical skills and discipline through my work experiences. At Niagara Bottling, I operated and monitored bottling line machinery to ensure smooth production. That job taught me how to focus on details, troubleshoot issues, and maintain a safe work environment. Before that, I worked as a material handler at American Eagle Outfitters’ distribution center, where I learned how to manage heavy workloads, stay organized, and support a team. I also spent time assisting in construction with Viscaino’s Construction, where I helped with demolition, painting, and cleanup tasks. Each of these roles gave me valuable lessons about responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance—qualities that are essential in the electrical trade.
When I enrolled at Lincoln Tech, everything clicked into place. The combination of technical training, hands-on labs, and the satisfaction of learning a real-world skill made me confident that this is the path for me. I enjoy the challenge of working safely with electrical systems, understanding circuits, and solving problems that require both knowledge and precision. I’m motivated by the idea of creating something lasting and functional—something that people rely on every day without even realizing it. That sense of purpose drives me to learn as much as I can and push myself to improve every day.
What makes me stand out from other candidates
What sets me apart is my determination and resilience. My journey hasn’t been easy, but I’ve never allowed challenges to stop me from moving forward. I earned my GED at the Lifelong Learning Center in Frackville, Pennsylvania, after stepping away from school for a period of time. Coming back to education as an adult was not simple, but it showed me the importance of staying committed and believing in myself. That same mindset is what keeps me going now as I balance my studies, financial responsibilities, and future goals.
I’ve also had the opportunity to work across different industries—customer service, warehouse operations, manufacturing, and construction—and each experience taught me something new about discipline and adaptability. I understand the value of communication, teamwork, and professionalism, and I’ve learned to approach every job with focus and humility. Being fluent in both English and Spanish also allows me to connect with a wide range of people, which is an asset in a trade that depends on collaboration and safety.
Another quality that makes me stand out is my willingness to learn. In every job I’ve had, I’ve always been the type of person to ask questions, take notes, and volunteer for new tasks so I can grow faster. I take pride in showing up on time, doing the work well, and earning trust through consistency. My goal isn’t just to complete this program—it’s to build a career where I can keep developing my skills, take on leadership roles, and one day manage projects that make a real difference.
Lastly, I’m motivated by gratitude. I’ve worked hard to get to this point, and I know that any help I receive will not go to waste. This scholarship would give me the breathing room to focus fully on my education, graduate on time, and step into the workforce ready to contribute with confidence and integrity. It would be a reminder that others believe in my potential—and that belief would push me to keep giving my best in everything I do.
Conclusion
In short, this scholarship would be a crucial support in helping me continue my education and achieve my dream of becoming an electrician. It would allow me to focus on my studies without constantly worrying about financial setbacks and give me the tools I need to succeed both in school and in the field. My goal is to use the knowledge and experience I gain to give back to my community, promote safety and energy efficiency, and help others discover the opportunities that the trades can offer.
