Being taught both teachings of Christianity and Islam, I have the advantage of being more understanding and open-minded to all human beings. I am the oldest of three children. My mom is a single parent, but my father Shawn plays an active part in my life, although we reside in different states. I have a hands-on full tribe guiding and loving me. Education is very important as my grandmother is a sharecropper's daughter. My great-grandmother and great aunts and uncles are five and six generations, removed from slavery. Being the first male child in five years to graduate, makes me even more excited to be accepted into the oldest Historical Black College and University in Georgia. It's my time to rise and be the light I want to see, the change I want to see. As I embark upon this new journey as a college student, this scholarship will help me gain security financially during my next venture. Not having the stress of knowing how my family will assist with my educational endeavors. I will have the freedom of focusing on my studies and continue to volunteer as well. Volunteering with the kids rather than peers or younger tutoring, and time with the elderly is a passion of mine as I have done so within nursing homes since I was in grade school. This scholarship will also allow me the chance to adapt to new experiences and adjust to college life comfortably. Adjusting to college should not be too much of a stress as I have been an honors student since elementary school and have maintained over a 3.0 as well. As I carve out my path in a very uncertain world, I plan to continue to be the change I want to see in this world. Education is the foundation of success, and continuing my education allows me to pursue my desire to obtain my degree in forensic science with a minor in chemistry. Be the change. Doing so, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all my days.

I am passionate about social justice, and a sense of purpose. I want to make sure that the playing field is even for every player. No student is left behind. My community will benefit also as every person will know their value and worth. I believe in being more about action than words. Volunteering more and not just giving orders. As a part of the first generation never to know the world without the internet, my compassion toward others is heightened as I can communicate with my peers around the world. We can collaborate on our views on how best to change our world as it continues to ever change. My values and beliefs are different, as I have different ideas about my future and because of my history as well. The digital age is different than the industrial age. Upon completion of my degree major and minor, I will be able to call for action to confront the disparity and discrimination that has persisted in our society for far too long. I will not be afraid to call out and question and educate those who are complacent with the status quo. I am in tune and concerned about climate changes, global ocean warming, and our changing ocean waters. I feel a sense of urgency to align with our global watchdogs to utilize my online savviness, and social media to share my views and take on what can be done to improve our daily living. I care very much about the planet, and more so its people. As I carve out my path in a very uncertain world, I value authenticity and individual expression. As a forensic science major with a minor in chemistry, my education and training, in STEM will help me to apply my knowledge during investigations. I will be able to determine the exact cause of most investigations. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, being able to specialize in all these subjects is what forensic science is to me. As I embark upon receiving this degree, my love and understanding of biology, chemistry, and computers, will allow me a greater advantage to succeed in this field of study. As the study of forensic sciences is projected to increase between 2023-2031 the critical need for forensic scientists will always be there. I plan on being a part of that number. Not only being a part of that number but making a difference and being in the top percentage of forensic scientists. More like being an active part of that growth. Becoming a forensic scientist is indeed a wise career decision for me. I possess the skills and passion for the job. Now it's just time to put the plan into action. Once I obtain my degree I desire to be able to thoroughly investigate crimes and make sure individuals that have committed crimes are incesrated and other individuals are not falsely accused. Being able to ensure innocent individuals are not falsely accused, will be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Doing so, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all my days.
