Nursing is a career that offers a plethora of opportunities to work. It is also a mobile career, where you can change to different specialties to expand your knowledge and experience different environments in the medical field. The opportunity to stay or change specialties is appealing to me. Travel nursing to be able to explore different places while still pursuing my nursing career. All of these things are very attractive to me.
I have loved my science and biology classes in H.S. The intricacies of the human body are fascinating. Putting into practice the information I have learned is captivating to me. I cannot wait to get started.
I also find that the opportunities to grow and learn more high-level skills in nursing are enticing. The different specialties, the higher level licenses, NP, and CRNA are a few. The nursing career has so many options to expand knowledge. Nursing is growing and changing so quickly as new procedures, and skills are developed. I know that in the process of learning, clinicals in different departments will help me to be able to make a more informed choice on where in nursing I belong.
I have a passion for helping people. I have done much community service in service clubs like Interac, FCCLA, and volunteering in the community. I was in Big Brother/Big Sister and worked with at-risk children in primary school. I made my own free food and delivery service to the elderly in my lake community during COVID-19. I have continued this service to bless others.
I can change people’s lives as a nurse. I am a year younger than my classmates after being moved up a grade level, and feel that gives me more time to study and learn new skills.
I love that nursing allows one to find a healthy work-life balance. I hope to one day have a family and having that healthy balance that is possible with nursing will be important.
The traumatic experience of leaving our home and escaping to the US to leave domestic violence changed me. I am moved by kindness and when people positively interact with me. I feel when people have compassion and care. This is how I want to treat my patients. I want to be a comforting and understanding presence.
We came to the U.S. with 2 suitcases each and had to start from scratch. We could barely survive and had/have little money. We learned to be very frugal and be thankful for what we did have. My mom was very adamant about concentrating on our blessings, not on the hard things. My mom suffered the most in the domestic violence, and then here in the U.S. not being able to find a job that would pay our bills. We had to learn how to be poor. It is a challenge, but we learned and now I think of all the positive things that have happened because we came to the U.S. I learned to not concentrate on the reason we left, but the great things that have happened since.
Nursing has the potential to allow me to support my mom and sisters in the future, and allow her to live a more comfortable life, rather than living paycheck to paycheck. I hope to become financially stable.
I hope to be the nurse that people remember with a smile.
I respect nurses who can make patients feel secure and comfortable. I want to improve the lives of the patients and of the community. I will strive to be a positive and reassuring presence in their lives.
