Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
I have read many books from the #BookTok community and have had many mixed results in books that I have loved or hated. However, nothing will ever beat the book series, Throne of Glass. No movie, book, or story contains the worldbuilding that this series has. Sarah J Maas's attention to detail is quite literally one is the most insane pieces of work I have ever seen. Although there are eight books in the series, it is worth every second spent reading. Sarah J Maas was only a teenager when she started to write the series, and yet I have never read such an intricate piece of work. In only the first chapter, there are connections that you don't find out about until the very last book. With insane plot twists and original ideas, Sarah J Maas tells a story with a plot so intricate that there is no other book on #BookTok that compares. However, those aren't the only books that Maas has written that connect to the Throne of Glass series. In fact, her more recent series are ACOTAR and Crescent City, both of which are connected to each other which just further proves Maas's insane mind. Although I have yet to read Crescent City, #BookTok has already connected all of these series together, which I cannot wait to read about. There is another quality to Throne of Glass that makes it uniquely Elite to any other book series. #BookTok also enjoys the Empyrean Series. As much as I love that series, I have to bring back much of the inspiration behind that series back to Sarah J Maas and Throne of Glass. Although the author Rebecca Yarros of the Empyrean Series is very talented and di not copy Sarah J Mass, #BookTok and agree that many concepts or ideas were taken from Throne of Glass. For example, the title "Wing Leader" or the concept of Gaelic names seem to have inspired Rebecca Yarros in her creation of Fourth Wing and Iron Flame. Therefore, Throne of Glass would appear in the center of my ideal bookshelf. Next, I would definitely have Maas's other series ACOTAR and Crescent City along with Rebecca Yarros's Empyrean series. Furthermore, a popular #BookTok book series right now is the Powerless Trilogy. Although there are only two books out, I would include the first book, Powerless on my bookshelf. However, much to #BookTok's dismay, did not like the second book Reckless and would not include it in my bookshelf. Furthermore, A few books that #BookTok likes that I haven't read yet and would add to my bookshelf is It Ends With Us, Six of Crows series, and The Prison Healer. I would add these books because they are next on my list to read on Goodreads and I am very hopeful that they will be good like #BookTok says. Overall, I know nothing would compare to the Throne of Glass series, and therefore that would be my first and foremost choice for an ideal bookshelf.
Sherman S. Howard Legacy Foundation Scholarship
My church is very connected with the small town that I live in. One of the services that the church provided is an opportunity to help families who cannot afford their own food and necessities. Shen I found out about volunteer opportunities within this area, I made sure to help out. There is a grocery store in which family members may come in and gain a personal shopper to help them pick out food. I became one of these shoppers. My main goal as a shopping assistant is to make sure that the families I work with feel welcome and supported. I help them pick out food but there is a limit on how much depending on the size of their family so my other job is to make sure there is enough food for everyone coming in. I loved this volunteer work because you work up front and personal with these people, and you can witness everything firsthand. Working families in need showed me how God helps me just as I help them. In fact, God wants us to help others, therefore, I feel nothing but joy to help others so that they may have food on their table every night. Overall, by contributing to this service I felt like I was making an impact on the very community I lived in. Moreover, I felt this sense of purpose that God was tasking me with, in order to help his children just like he has helped me. Many people that could no afford food in my community were far too many, oftentimes, there were people from my own school that I never thought would be in that situation. I once saw a boy's mother that I knew from school. Because my church was able to provide food for them, people like this boy that go to school were able to eat during lunch, which I would think helped them to learn better in school and grow in sports or feel more energized or social. I have known more people than I ever thought that struggle with getting food on their table at dinnertime. My church understood just how bad it can be even in a good area and were able to make a difference. They were even able to get enough volunteers from the church to make prepackaged foods with rice and beans to send all over the world to help other areas and families in need. Overall, my church was able to make a direct impact on those around us by providing an opportunity for families everywhere to not have to worry about putting food on their table one more time.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
I've chosen a field within a criminal justice background. Whether this is through a career in law or in the FBI, my ultimate goal is to help people in need who may not be able to stand up for themselves or maybe don't even know that they even should. As a Christian, it is my belief that I must act as one, helping others as Jesus helps us. I will be able to do this by helping others through a career based on law in order to help others find their voice, freedom, and God. In all, I have always wanted to make a difference in the world. I do not want to be a part of a career solely for the money, however, I wish to instill hope and faith in others with a career that is rewarding in it's sense of purpose. I wish to make an impact, no matter how small or big it may be.
Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I have been listening to Sabrina Carpenter since a was a kid, growing up watching "Girl Meets World" when she played the role of Maya Hart. Ever since, her oldest songs such as "Can't Blame a Girl for Trying," "On Purpose," and "Eyes Wide Open" have become songs that I grew up listening to. Now, I continue to listen to her new songs, however, her older songs have become a part of who I have become. "Girl Meets World" and her songs like "Thumbs" helped me to better understand the world and how hard it can be when it is time to start growing up and become a part of society. I believe that Sabrina Carpenter has allowed me to better understand why things happen the way they do as I grew up and allowed me to better navigate life's course or anything thrown my way. Sabrina's character, Maya Hart allowed me to better understand relationships with friends and the different complex emotions that can become overbearing or even daunting at times. Through Maya's friendship with Riley Mathews, I was able to overcome any challenges in my friendships and learn to understand other's perspectives in which I could communicate and work things out. This TV show featuring Sabrina Carpenter has created and helped save some of my core friendships growing up in my childhood that have made me the person I am today. While I continue to listen to Sabrina Carpenter's new songs today, I think back to the first time I ever saw her on screen with "Girl Meets World." Unfortunately as Sabrina Carpenter is on tour now and she so happens to have a concert right around my 21st birthday, however, she is completely sold out already which is very frustrating. Nevertheless, I hope to see her in concert next time around.
