I’m not supposed to be here—not without money, not without support—but I refuse to let that stop me. As a young woman working two to three part-time jobs while attending school full time, I’ve learned that faith, determination, and sacrifice are my daily tools for success. I’m currently pursuing my Bachelors in Secondary English Education (BSED) at Western Carolina University, paying for everything out of my own pocket. It’s exhausting, but it’s worth it. Growing up, I understood that education was my key out of a cycle that often traps people where they start. I watched strong women in my family make sacrifices, and I learned from them what grit looks like. But I also learned early on that if I wanted something different, something better, I would have to work for it myself—and I have. I graduated high school with all honors courses and a 3.6 GPA. From there, I earned my Associate of Arts degree with Honors from Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, NC, graduating with a 3.7 GPA. I’ve been a full-time student every step of the way, balancing rigorous coursework while juggling multiple part-time jobs—often all at once. It’s not glamorous, but it’s built a strength in me that no textbook ever could. Why do I do it? Because I believe in the power of education. I believe that words can change lives, and I want to be the teacher who helps students find their voice—especially those who’ve been told they don’t have one. However, what truly keeps me grounded is my Christian faith. I believe God has a purpose for my life, and I trust that every struggle I face is shaping me to serve others more fully. I know I’m being prepared not just to teach English, but to be a role model for students who may not believe in themselves yet. My passion for teaching stems from wanting to give others the support I had to find within myself. I’ve volunteered in classrooms, community centers, and church youth programs, working with students who’ve felt overlooked or underestimated. I know what it’s like to be the underdog, and I want to be the kind of teacher who sees potential in every student—even when they can’t see it yet. Receiving this scholarship wouldn’t just help me financially—it would affirm the hard work, long nights, and quiet prayers I’ve poured into my education. I’m not looking for shortcuts or easy answers. I’m looking for a way to keep going, to finish what I started, and to give back through the career I’ve fought so hard to pursue. And when I stand in my own classroom one day, teaching the next generation how to analyze, to write, and to speak up—I’ll be living proof that perseverance, passion, and a little help along the way can change everything. God didn’t promise this path would be easy, but He made it clear it would be worth it. Every late-night shift, every overdue bill, every prayer has been another step toward the classroom I know I’m meant to stand in. I’m building a future through every class I pass and every shift I work. I believe I’ve been called to this path for a reason, and with your support, I’ll continue pressing forward—toward a life of service, leadership, and purpose in the classroom and beyond.
