Hello my name is Savannah Childress. I am 18 years old, I love to travel with friends and family, I love hanging out with friends I my spare time and of course love being on my phone watching videos. I am currently in FCA and I am a varsity softball student coach/manager. I am very involved with my church and love helping out with the youth kids. I volunteer to work the coffee shop at church. I am currently a senior in high school and i am getting ready to graduate in a few months and then plan to attend Dallas baptist university in the fall of 2025 and pursue a career in kinesiology. I have a love for all sports and played softball until my junior year were I went through and ankle injury causing me to step back from the sport I love. I plan on making a positive impact on the world through working as a sports therapist/medicine. I know how it feels to miss out on a sport you love and not being able to continue. I would love to help athletes heal appropriately and get back to doing what they love. I did attend physical therapy and seen a few different specialist which helped me heal and get back on my feet. They made a huge impact on the decision making of deciding what I really wanted to do in my future. I know if they made me feel the way I did after being released to go back to playing the sport that I have been playing since I was five years old that I can hopefully make a difference like that in the near future. Sports had always been a big impact in my life. I was in drill team at 4 years old, which I did for 2 seasons, I then transfered over to dance classes which I joined in on ballet, tap, and hip hop classes and then went into completion dance I did that from the age of 6 to 8 all while still involved with softball. Soft all was where my heart was at for sure. My middle school years i played a couple seasons of volleyball and i also did 2 years of basketball. Overall sports has always been a big impact in my life and I would love to continue being involved with sports. Going into the field of kinesology would allow me to work with all different sport injuries and athletes. I believe my this field is where I belong.

Hello my name is Savannah Childress and The 504 plan has inspired me to pursue going to college and getting a bachelor's degree because the program has helped me understand that just because I have an ability to learn different than someone else that it should not stop me from achieving a goal. I have been in the 504 program(MTA) Since elementary, I had a wonderful fifth grade teacher who noticed I was having some problems and talked with my parents and the school and they decided to have me tested. I was so thankful for that teacher because I was having a hard time comprehening what I was reading, so taking test or doing school work would always be a challenge for me. The 504 program helped me have more time when it came to testing and I was also allowed to listen to what was being read instead of reading it as well, it's not that I can't read, it was just trying to understanding it the first time I read it. I was constantly having to re read something over and over before I could put two and two together. It would often frustrate me. Once I was enrolled In the program my testing was getting better and I started to feel more confident in reading. It helped me to not become so frustrated at myself. Once middle school came up I was a little worried I would be made fun of going into a class that everyone knows that your in but it turned out there was so many students in mta, more than I would have thought so when high school came I did not have to go to a class pursay but I am still enrolled in the 504 program to help me when needed. I encourage anyone who has a learning disability to never let that stop you from achieving a goal. Push yourself hard and you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. I have learned that alot of students have different reasons for being in the 504 program from comprhenison, some not knowing there sounds or being able to sound out certain letters to some not being able to read at all.
I did have plans to become a teacher at one point, to help students like myself but I also had a second degree in mind which was kinesiology. It was a tough decision to make because I love kids and want to help them but I also want to do some sort of sports therapy/ medicine. I have a love for sports and athletes. So I decided to stick with the kinesiology degree. I want to help athletes get back to the sport they love as fast and safely as possible. A disability know matter what kind it is should not stop a person from going as far in school as possible. A 504 program is there to help you, not make you feel ashamed of yourself. Having a learning diability can sometimes be difficult but you can get the help you need and overcome obstacles big or small. I encourage every student to never feel this way and continue to educate yourself as much as possible. A learning disability is just a learning disability its not something that should ever stop you. If you have big dreams chase them and go out and get them. I'm going to continue to chase mine learning disability or not.

Hello my name is Savannah, I am currently a senior in high school who is planning on attending Dallas Baptist University in the fall of 2025. I come from a family of 4. My mom and dad are very hard workers They try to give my brother and myself everything we need or want. We don't ever want for anything. Sometimes I know it's a struggle for them but some how they make it work. They both work so hard and I want to pursue my education by going to college and getting a bachelor's degree in kinesology but with that comes a being financial strain on my family. I want to get a bachelor's degree in kinselogy so that I will be able to take care of myself and later on in life be able to help my parents . I want them to not to be able to worry about finances and such. I want to give back to them. I want to make them proud of me. So being able to go college and getting a job in the kinselogy field would be one way I could help achieve that. I want to work as a sports therapist/medicine. I would love to help athletes get back to doing what they love.
