My personal inspiration for pursuing a career in nursing is so I can always help the people in need. When I was young I was really sick so I went to the doctor. No doctor ever could figure out what was wrong with me, but when they had me get bloodwork done, they saw something strange. Some of my levels were off that should not have been. A few weeks later I found out I had hypothyroidism. If it wasn't for the random sickness i had then, they would not have figured any of this out for a long time. Hypothyroidism is when my thyroid gland does not make enough hormones to meet my body's needs, it commonly gets found when you are older. It took multiple doctors and nurses trying to figure out why i was sick, however one specific nurse found something that no others were paying attention to. I am so thankful for the nurse that determined I had this issue with my body because I would not be where I am today. I have always wanted to be a nurse or doctor but after that day all i could think about is accomplishing my goal in the nursing fields! I am now currently in BOCES for Nursing Assisting. Recently we have been going to nursing homes and helping out there. I love helping all the residents that live there, the smile on their faces when all the students come and talk to them are priceless. My teachers are also a big inspiration for my journey to become a nurse. They are always helping the students get where they need to be and push us to always succeed. I really hope i can pursue my nursing dream and go to a college that will get me there. I have always dreamt of myself leaving my house in scrubs to go to work and I pray to achieve that dream.
To me, "Human Touch" does not just mean the physical reaction of one's skin to the other, it also can mean the kindness one has for you. I feel human touch is either someone comforting you with their words or someone comforting you with their touch. I love when people like to be by me, even if they want a high five, a hug, or anything else physical touch wise. I also like words of affirmation. Both have something to do with human touch, physically or verbally. You can always feel a connection with human touch. Someone can compliment you and say your shirt is cute, while your best friend can come up to you and tell you how much he / she loves you. Human touch can be different for all people. Some people like the physical part of human touch while others like the verbal part of human touch. Some may even like both! Human touch is also VERY important in the health care setting as well and it can impact a patients care. The reason for this is because some patients may have something wrong with them and you do not know what they like or dislike. These things include; Alzheimer's, Dementia, Memory Loss, etc. With these patients you have to figure out what type of human touch they want. Some think if you touch them then you want to hurt them, while others need that physical touch to help them calm down. Some people also can get overstimulated or feel like they are trapped if you touch them. This is why you always use your words before you do anything medical. If you do not tell them what you are going to do and immediately start touching them, they might start acting out. This does not just put you in harm but it also puts the patient in harm as well. Both you and the patient can get hurt and that can lead to more serious things.
