My name is Savanna, and I am a PhD student in Gallaudet University’s clinical psychology program. I feel passionately about making healthcare accessible for people with disabilities and/or sensory differences, which is why I am training to become a clinical neuropsychologist for Deaf and Hard of Hearing folks!
Prior to going back to school, I was a clinical research assistant at ONRC’s Clinical Neuroscience and Development Lab. I ran fMRI study participants, conducted neuropsychological and cognitive assessments, and wrangled data for a study about ADHD. Before that, I helped create a bilingual ASL/English curriculum to educate middle schoolers about vaping and tobacco.
Outside of the classroom, I spend my time collecting recondite skills like lock-picking and balloon animal sculpture. I also collect rubber ducks, mostly because I can’t resist the temptation from those claw machines at the mall. On Sundays, one can typically find me deep into a paint-by-numbers, watching the Eagles game, and enjoying whichever pasta dish I have smothered in lemon juice that evening. After graduating, I plan to become board certified in clinical neuropsychology so that I can connect disabled learners like myself with the accommodations they deserve!
