Bio

Growing up with parents as nurses and two siblings with medical challenges I had always heard the term “quality of life” but as a kid I didn’t truly understand the depth of the concept. The World Health Organization defines quality of life as, “an individual's perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns.” This definition is used by medical professionals around the world who get to take a glimpse into a life and decide if it is of high or low quality. As a child I might not have understood it, but “quality of life” isn’t something a doctor can determine from a checklist; it is one's sacred worth and should be echoed for the voiceless and heard by the suppressors. Seeing my siblings struggle to be heard by those meant to help them has not only shaped my character but my calling. We are called for change when things are out of place. I want to pursue a career in physical therapy so I can be the one who listens fully, acts with empathy, ensures clarity and never forgets the person behind the symptoms. Quality of life was never meant to be measured by checklists. Our worth is not found in the words of others but is defined by the truth of God. We must stop letting others decide whose life has value. This is the kind of vision I will carry with me, not just in my future career, but in my friendships, family, and everyday life.
