Bio

Growing up I've always dreamed of becoming a pediatric physical therapist. Having a cousin who has a physical disability and seeing her go to her physical therapy appointments sparked that interest in me. I love to help others and help them become the best they can be. This is one of the many reasons why I am pursuing physical therapy as as a career. Being a first generation student has been very challenging at times, but I will always be grateful for the privilege of attending college. Even through the hard times, I will always keep pushing myself to make my parents proud because how could I not continue their fight. I constantly remind myself I am the continuation of my parents' dreams. I am a person full of grit and determination striving to receive my doctorates degree. I am currently taking courses at Dallas College and I plan to transfer to Texas Women's University to pursue my dream career there. As a passionate and hard-working person, I aspire to become a pediatric physical therapist. I hope to one day be able to say that I have the opportunity to profoundly impact the lives of children with any physical disabilities or injuries.

My name is Sarai Cuevas, I was born in Georgetown, Texas and I am 20 years old. I am a first generation student striving to attain my doctorates in physical therapy. I have 5 younger siblings and 5 older siblings and I want to be an inspiration for both my younger and older siblings to continue their education in college. I want to serve as a role model for them to continue our parents' dreams. Throughout my high school years, I was able to grasp the most meaningful educational experiences that are significantly valuable to me to this day. Joining several clubs, organizations, and joining the education and training pathway were extremely important for me. They all played a part in helping me figure out my future educational and career goals. I had the opportunity to be a special education student teacher intern. This played a role in why I want to pursue my career in physical therapy. I am a person with a big heart eager to reach my dream goal of becoming a pediatric physical therapist. I love to encourage others to do their best and reach their full potential, especially children. I always try my best to acknowledge their ideas and make them feel comfortable. This upcoming fall semester I will be transferring to Texas Woman's University and will major in Kinesiology/Pre-Physical Therapy. Their program will give me the hands-on experience to be successful in my future career of working with children with physical disabilities. Becoming a pediatric physical therapist will create so many rewarding experiences for me. Many people don't realize how movement affects our bodies, inside and out, and how impactful it is to our health and wellness. I cannot wait till the day I have my own patients to attend to my best ability in a safe and comfortable workspace. Everyone deserves to live life with pain-free and smooth movements. The therapeutic process will allow patients to make sure their body is always balanced, which is an important factor in living a healthy and lasting life. Through this career I will be able to profoundly impact the lives of children with any physical disability or injury. I will be able to see them make progress and advance their physical mobility through their physical therapy sessions. This will then truly help them feel recharged and prepared to participate in the tasks of everyday life without any issues. And I will love to have the chance to say that I have helped them achieve that. As a person who has a younger cousin who suffers with Cerebral Palsy, I know how damaging it is both emotionally and physically. It’s hard for them to accomplish day to day activities without being judged or having any type of discomfort. However, through pursuing my doctorate degree, I want children with physical disabilities to always remember that their condition will never define who they are and will never stop them from reaching their desired goals in life.
