    Dental Hygiene Basics Scholarship
I was introduced to dental hygiene at an early age through my mom, a dental hygienist who began her career as a dental assistant. Watching her grow, challenge herself, and ultimately build a meaningful career inspired me to follow a similar path. Her journey showed me that dental hygiene is more than a profession- it is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on people’s health and confidence. I began my own journey in dentistry as a dental assistant, where I quickly discovered my passion for patient care. I loved building relationships with patients, helping ease their anxieties, and being part of a team that improves both oral health and overall well-being. One experience that stands out is educating a patient on proper flossing technique. What seemed like a small moment turned into a meaningful realization for the patient, reinforcing for me how powerful education can be in preventing disease and empowering individuals. Moments like this solidified my desire to expand my knowledge and skills as a dental hygienist. My commitment to the field deepened through my participation in a dental hygiene service-learning mission trip to the Bahamas. During this experience, our team screened 149 children, treated 82 teeth with SDF, and applied 295 sealants. Beyond the numbers, this experience opened my eyes to the critical need for preventive care and education in underserved communities. It reinforced my passion for outreach and demonstrated the impact of simple, evidence-based interventions on changing a child’s oral health trajectory. My academic path has not been without challenges. After initially attending a large university, I realized that the environment was not the right fit for me. Transferring to CT State Tunxis allowed me to thrive in a more supportive, close-knit learning environment. I regained my confidence, excelled in my coursework, and graduated from my dental assisting program with honors distinction. Now, as a first-year dental hygiene student, I am committed to continuing that growth and pursuing excellence in both my academic and clinical performance. In the future, I envision myself contributing to the field of dental hygiene through patient-centered care, education, and service. I hope to continue participating in outreach initiatives and, ultimately, further my education so I can give back to the profession by teaching future dental hygienists. Financial preparedness plays a critical role in my ability to achieve these goals. As a student balancing rigorous coursework with professional responsibilities, the financial demands of tuition, supplies, and clinical requirements can be significant. Receiving this scholarship would help alleviate that burden, allowing me to focus more fully on my education, clinical training, and service opportunities without the added stress of financial strain. Dental hygiene is not just a career for me... it is a calling rooted in compassion, education, and the desire to make a difference. This scholarship would not only support my academic journey but also bring me one step closer to making a meaningful impact in the lives of my future patients.
    Dental Hygiene Basics Scholarship
My passion for dental hygiene began while in school to become a Certified Dental Assistant, where I quickly learned how rewarding it is to help patients feel comfortable and confident during their dental visits. I loved being part of a team that not only restored smiles but also educated patients on the importance of preventive care. Over time, I realized that my favorite moments were the ones spent connecting with patients. Helping them understand their oral health and easing their fears. That experience made it clear that becoming a Registered Dental Hygienist was the next step for me. Dental hygiene is more than a profession to me; it is a way to improve people’s lives through compassion, education, and prevention. As a dental assistant, I have seen how preventive care can transform a patient’s confidence and overall health. This perspective has deepened my appreciation for the role hygienists play in bridging the gap between oral and systemic wellness. Through my education, I have strengthened my understanding of dental fundamentals, infection control, and patient management, all of which continue to build my foundation for becoming a knowledgeable and empathetic clinician. My academic and professional journey has inspired me to dream even bigger. After earning my associate degree in dental hygiene, I plan to complete my bachelor’s and eventually my master’s degree so I can return to my community college as a dental hygiene instructor. Teaching would allow me to share my knowledge and passion with future students while continuing to advocate for the importance of oral health. I hope to inspire others the same way my professors and mentors have inspired me- to care deeply for patients and to find fulfillment in lifelong learning. Financial preparedness is a crucial part of achieving these goals. Balancing school, clinical hours, and work can be demanding, and the cost of tuition, textbooks, and clinical supplies adds up quickly. I have worked hard to manage my finances responsibly and remain focused on my education, but receiving this scholarship would greatly ease that burden. It would allow me to dedicate more time and energy to my studies, clinical practice, and community involvement, helping me stay fully committed to achieving academic excellence. This scholarship would not only support me financially, but it would also represent an investment in my future as a dental hygienist and future educator. I am determined to give back to my patients, my community, and the profession by providing compassionate care and inspiring the next generation of dental hygiene students
    Community College Matters Scholarship
Before I was born, my mom attended the same community college that I now have the privilege of attending. Even though I wasn’t there to witness her journey firsthand, growing up and hearing her stories about how much that experience shaped her life had a lasting impact on me. She often talked about how community college gave her a strong foundation, confidence, and direction for her future. Knowing that I am walking the same halls and learning in the same classrooms she once did gives me a sense of pride and purpose. Her determination and commitment to her education before starting a family inspired me to follow a similar path and create my own success story. When I began planning my education, I knew community college was the right choice for me. I wanted to pursue my career goals while making responsible financial decisions that would help lighten the load for my family. Attending community college has allowed me to receive a quality education, stay close to home, and grow academically without taking on overwhelming financial strain. I am grateful for the opportunities it has given me to build strong relationships with professors, gain confidence in my abilities, and prepare for my future in the dental field. As a Certified Dental Assistant, I have found great joy in helping patients feel at ease and educating them about their oral health. The relationships I’ve built and the skills I’ve learned in the dental field have motivated me to take the next step in my education and become a Registered Dental Hygienist. I am passionate about preventive care and the connection between oral and overall health. I want to continue learning and growing so I can make a positive difference in my patients’ lives every day. Looking ahead, I plan to earn my bachelor’s and eventually my master’s degree so I can return to this same community college as an instructor. I want to give back to the program that has helped shape me into the person I am today and inspire future students to pursue their goals with confidence. Teaching would allow me to combine my love for dentistry, education, and helping others into one meaningful career that continues to make an impact for years to come.
