Hello! My name is Sarah Mateo, and I am a current student at Valencia College. As I finish my Associate's degree, I will transfer to the University of Central Florida to pursue an undergraduate degree in Statistics. My career goal is to attend a Masters program to become a biostatistician. Now, you may ask yourself, what does a biostatistician do? Biostatisticians use statistics to analyze and interpret data related to public health and medicine. With biostatistics, I can blend my love of statistics and medicine into one to improve public health outcomes. I'm specifically interested in genomic research and studies related to social determinants of health within marginalized groups in healthcare. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, hiking, and spending time with my family. As a history and geography enthusiast, traveling is a big goal of mine. I am deeply interested in learning about other cultures while sharing mine as someone who grew up in a multicultural household with Puerto Rican and Colombian roots.
