Bio

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. I'm married to the goofy guy on my left! We've been married for over two years, and he's extremely supportive of my dream to be an elementary school teacher. I had a full-ride scholarship but surrendered it after two years-- education wasn't one of the degree options. Most people thought I was crazy, and I don't blame them, but I took a year off to work and realize what I wanted to do. I've decided it's more important to live a fulfilling, generous life than to be wealthy. However, financial freedom provides flexibility and I hope to earn new scholarships to help support myself, my husband, and our two wiener dog babies!

John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
From my earliest years, I've been drawn to the unconventional, finding joy in simple wonders like rain-soaked worms and personalized paper airplanes. This innate curiosity has evolved into a deep-seated drive to explore, create, and learn—a spirit I now strive to instill in my students. As an educator, I find myself captivated by the endless possibilities that unfold in the classroom, each day bringing new opportunities to shape young minds and nurture budding dreams. However, I used to fight my passion for teaching because of fears like financial instability, systemic hurdles, and the risk of burnout. I initially veered towards property management, as it provided security, yet left me feeling unfulfilled. It was in the vibrant world of Education that I discovered my true calling, a realization that has brought profound contentment and purpose to my life. Now, I bring stories to life with animated gestures and voices, understanding that even small details can significantly impact a child's engagement. My genuine enthusiasm for subjects like reading is contagious, inspiring students to develop their own passion for learning. Authenticity is the cornerstone of my teaching philosophy. I share parts of myself with my students, from personal interests to past struggles, creating a supportive environment where children feel understood and inspired. By revealing my own journey—like overcoming speech difficulties—I show students that challenges can be conquered and dreams realized. My goal extends beyond imparting knowledge; I aim to plant seeds of ambition and self-belief in young minds. This approach reflects my commitment to nurturing not just academic skills, but also emotional intelligence and self-confidence. The joy of teaching lies in the small victories: the light of understanding in a child's eyes, the pride in mastering a new skill, the excitement of discovering a new interest. These moments fuel my drive and remind me of the profound impact educators can have on shaping the future. As I continue on this path, I remain committed to personal growth and learning. The world is ever-changing, and I embrace the challenge of staying current and relevant for my students. Whether it's incorporating new technologies or exploring innovative teaching methods, I'm dedicated to providing the best possible learning experience. In essence, my journey as an educator is a testament to the power of following one's passion. It's about creating a positive, nurturing environment where children can thrive, dream big, and believe in their unlimited potential. Through authenticity, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment, I strive to make a lasting difference in the lives of my students, one smile, one lesson, one day at a time.
    Gussie Lynn Scholarship
Teaching, for me, is much more than just a profession—it is a profound passion that fills me with joy and allows me to share this joy with others. Learning, to me, is a lifelong journey characterized by an insatiable hunger for new knowledge and a relentless pursuit of applying that knowledge in practical ways. I am drawn to hands-on experiences and have an unquenchable thirst for exploring the vast and diverse world around me. Since I was little, I didn’t hesitate to collect worms on a rainy day or succumb to peer pressure by not naming each of my paper airplanes. Now, you’ll still likely find me in nature or creating something. At my core lies a desire to ignite in others the same love for learning and discovery that resonates within me. I want not only to motivate students to realize their full potential but also to build deep, meaningful connections with them, showing them care and fostering a belief in their limitless capabilities.  Despite being cautioned by well-meaning individuals, including members of my own family, to steer clear of a career in teaching owing to potential financial challenges, the complexities of the educational system, and the risk of exhaustion and loss of autonomy, I initially explored alternative paths such as property management, lured by the promise of substantial monetary rewards. Even though these rewards proved fleetingly fruitful, I soon discovered a lack of fulfillment. It was only upon finding my passion in early childhood education, that I found true contentment.   Each day spent with the children is now a source of eager anticipation as I witness firsthand the impact I can have on shaping young minds. For example, I’ve helped students fall in love with reading because they could see and feel my fondness for it. Teachers can fake interests in subjects, but kids are smart and can tell! By letting myself let go of potential embarrassments, I do my best to make the characters come to life with my speech and movement. Even little things, like wardrobe or hair choices, can make all the difference to these children’s engagement levels. Furthermore, it’s easy to draw them into things like writing when I confidently and enthusiastically tell them that I’m 60,000 words into my book! We become such a significant part of their worlds that I think they deserve to have a glimpse into what makes us who we are. While understanding the importance of professionalism, I will never hesitate to tell them about my two wiener dogs, my silly husband, or even certain struggles I’ve overcome. Why wouldn’t I tell a six-year-old who’s upset over her speech therapy progress that I was in her shoes and pronounced “refrigerator” as “wefwigewatow,” if it helps her see how much progress can be made?   The driving force behind my professional aspirations is as simple as it is profound: bringing smiles to the faces of these young learners. This goal embodies my commitment to authenticity, ensuring I am in a positive mental and emotional state to provide them with my wholehearted support.  It is not my ambition to be a teacher remembered solely for their instructional prowess; rather, I aspire to be the catalyst that plants the seeds of dreams in young imaginations—seeds that will one day bloom into beautiful realities. My journey as an educator is not just about imparting knowledge; it is about instilling in these young learners a profound belief in themselves and their capacity to achieve greatness.
Andrea Tyrah DeBruhl Memorial Scholarship for Future Teachers
After sitting with a third-grader in the office for a couple of hours after a hard fall off the swing, I realized how important playground safety is. There were too many times this year that my heart raced when running over to help a student slipping through playground bars or falling off equipment. Sometimes I felt like the bad guy for often telling students to stop playing dangerously. However, it’s essential that we don’t just tell students to stop doing something, but we explain why. If we don’t connect with them and help them recognize potential consequences, then they’ll repeat their actions when our backs are turned. One common issue I’ve dealt with is kids jumping off swings. Instead of telling them to “knock it off,” I sit down with them and explain what happened to me. For example, when I was about 6, I fell off a swing backward while trying to jump and I broke both of my wrists. I elaborated on how much harder that made learning to write and do daily activities, especially fun ones, like art, music, and sports. When kids understand the reasoning behind rules, they become more impactful.   Since I saw too many tears on the playground, I got CPR/First Aid certified. Not only did this give me more peace of mind, it opened up conversations with my co-workers. We realized ways to make the playground safer (and more fun!) and heavily fundraised. Now, this summer, the playground is being transformed. Not only will the equipment be improved, but the amount of supervision and quality has already skyrocketed. For instance, at least one of the teachers on duty has a radio. This allows near-immediate communication with the principal. Furthermore, teachers must have phones on them to quickly call 911 if needed.   When I’m a teacher, I plan to ask the principal and other staff questions about the playground equipment, supervision, and maintenance. I also will stay updated on the United States CPSC's Handbook for Public Playground Safety. By documenting any concerns and any injuries I encounter, I’ll keep the school accountable. I think a crucial aspect of supervision is being active and monitoring the entire playground to ensure there are no unexpected changes, especially with the weather’s intense hand in Montana.   A major way I want to receive extensive training in playground safety and supervision is through courses offered by the Montana Early Childhood Project. One event that interests me is the Outdoor Environments course through CCR&R: Child Care Resources. This course focuses on enhancing playground safety and effectiveness regarding health and mental stimulation. By staying updated on certifications and continuing my education, I feel confident that I can create a safer playground experience and encourage (and inform) my peers as well. Thank you for this opportunity and for helping me dive deeper into how we can keep our kids healthy and happy.
    Barbie Dream House Scholarship
Teal water. Pine trees. Curving creeks. Paradise! Waking up to warm sunshine caressing my face surrounded by bird shadows intertwining in a game of tag is my dream. To turn this dream into a reality, my home would be nestled in the treetops by Glacier National Park. A winding staircase would wrap around a tall pine to reach my husband and I’s treehouse. The four hexagonal rooms would rest between wide and sturdy pines, connected by hanging wooden walkways with braided rope handrails. Recycled dark wood would form the primary structures, serving as a bed for solar panels atop the roofs. Stepping off the staircase would lead us into our game room. Foosball, air hockey, darts, and board games would fill every nook with plenty of room to spare for a large couch and projector. The l-shaped navy couch with built-in storage would allow us to entertain our friends and family while we stretch our legs. We’d have a bar and snack station filled with popcorn, licorice, and cream sodas. To the right of this room, after trekking over a short walkway, would be the kitchen and dining room area. Since we’d be high up, we’d want lighter materials, like white and black marbled laminate with indigo cabinets. Our island would allow for additional stool seating to compliment our black, expandable table. Since the rooms would be in a diamond layout, our bedroom would only be accessible through the kitchen or spare bedroom route. The center of the diamond would be treeless and the ground would house a trampoline. Two bunk beds, one over the other, and two fulls would each have lush mattress pads with walk-in closets and a bathroom. Two sinks and a separated toilet and shower would keep kids from fighting too much. Our main bedroom, with the best lake view, would have a remote-controlled California King centered across from a Smart TV. Because our wiener dogs are spoiled, they’d have a covered kennel with countless toys, treats, and beds. A rock-lined shower with turquoise highlights would let us get clean in luxury. Our photos from Going to the Sun Road and Many Glacier would line the walls throughout our home. Cameras would allow us to watch wildlife and stay safe. On the ground, I’d fill our large steel tub with lavender salts and set up a ring of citronella candles to keep the bugs away. Dipping into my bath covered by dense forest, reading a book, and sipping a coconut strawberry lemonade would be my happy place. In the summer, we’d go into the park often, camp at Bowman Lake, and venture into Canada. Our winters would be enhanced by our fire pit and huckleberry hot chocolate. This dream home would be difficult to build and maintain, but well worth it.
Harry Potter and the Sorting Hat Scholarship
I never wanted to be in Hufflepuff. Every time my friends asked me about my Hogwarts house, I alternated between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw because I couldn’t decide if it was more enviable to be brave or smart. The fact that I even thought this way should put me in Slytherin! Despite my occasional cunningness and ambition, I’ve finally accepted I’m a Hufflepuff. It’s not a bad thing—I’m proud to be loyal and hard-working, but I always yearned to be the hero, the star. Now, I realize I can make a difference without being in the headlines, by helping students learn in a safe, comfortable, patient environment. Everyone told me I needed to be a CEO or CFO and business was the right route to success. I believed them and followed that path for three years in school and at work. I’m so glad I stopped doing what I thought I was supposed to do and started doing what I was meant to do—teach! I was focused on making the most money and being a well-known name. I had to prove my haters wrong. I realized it’s more important to touch others’ lives positively and profoundly than to make a hefty paycheck or be praised. Internal joy and warmth keep me moving forward every day. I’m far from perfect, but I do everything I can to help, even when I’m told to stop. For example, my bosses recently told me to not try so hard with prospective renters that haven’t put in applications. We’ve all had experiences where we worked hard and it didn’t pan out, but that didn’t stop me from doing everything I could to help two gentlemen from Peru. My two new friends knew almost no English, but that didn’t scare me. I didn’t need to speak Spanish perfectly, I needed to put forth my best effort to communicate. Because I gave them my time and energy, they have a home and someone to count on thousands of miles from their families. I just paused working on this scholarship to send them a text because I don’t want to leave them hanging for too long. I know I don’t have to respond to someone within an hour, day, or even week, but I want to make people feel seen and heard. Being a Hufflepuff goes beyond people pleasing, it’s about what’s at our cores—an innate desire to love others and be reliable. Sometimes I annoy my friends and family by convincing them to volunteer with me or do the right thing, not the easy thing. I’m no longer ashamed of working hard and sacrificing my time for the sake of others over doing something fun, like going swimming. Impacting a life is fun and beyond rewarding! I want everyone to experience true loyalty and dedication before writing it off as an unnecessary chore. Accountability is a privilege, and I’m okay with being labeled as “boring” if it means staying true to my values. Hufflepuff chose me and I finally chose it!
    Eras Tour Farewell Fan Scholarship
My husband is thrilled the Eras Tour is coming to an end. He thinks he won’t be tortured anymore with a variety of constant singing, humming, whistling, and embarrassing dance moves—but I know his torture is far from over. Don’t get me wrong, I love him and don’t want to sing the same lyrics over and over again, but I can’t help it. I’ve genuinely tried to get other songs stuck in my head, but Taylor’s music is too relatable and enthralling! Her songs have taught me that it’s never too late to pursue my passions and find new ones. I’m able to follow my dreams no matter what others think. Everyone has told me I needed to go into business, and that I’m destined to be a CEO or CFO, but I’ve learned that I’d rather make a difference by being a teacher and coach than receiving a hefty paycheck. Since she has many classics on her tour, listening to songs like “Love Story” and “Fearless” brought me down memory road. I was transported back to when I was a young girl listening to Taylor’s music. Reflecting on my young, free-spirited, imaginative self, always brings a smile to my face. When I pretended to be a spy, climbing trees and throwing paper airplanes with my best friend, I was confident in myself. I knew I could do anything. Over the past few years, I’ve forgotten that. I started going through the motions rather than honoring the dreams and bravery of my younger self. As her setlist progressed, I felt comforted that everyone has ups and downs, successes and failures. Even though I can’t play soccer anymore due to my injury, all isn’t lost. I’ve found peace in being able to coach the next generation and pursuing new hobbies, like biking and bowling. While I took business classes, I had no flame for learning. Now, as I take classes to pursue my goal of becoming an elementary education teacher, I yearn to absorb as much knowledge as possible. I don’t ever want to stop growing. Taylor reminds me there isn’t a single box or path I’m trapped in. Whenever I feel like I’m behind or missing out, listening to and watching clips of the Eras tour gives me energy throughout my day. Although I’m beyond disappointed that I couldn’t go to the tour in person, I’m grateful that her music touches me from far away. I have so many things to be thankful for, and I hope to touch others’ lives by teaching as Taylor has done for so many of us through notes and chords. Fortunately, I don’t have too many boy problems as my man continues to make me “Wonderstruck, blushing all the way home.” I’m “Enchanted” by Taylor, Tyler, and my present and future.
    Disney Super Fan Scholarship
Walking into our cruise ship room, greeted by towel animals and rose petals, holding a rose, reminded me why I love Disney—their dedicated service. We told our stateroom host about our dinner plans at Remy in celebration of our honeymoon, and, not only did he remember, he made our room extra special! He never had to go out of his way for us, but he always did. From answering all our many questions to folding our messy clothes, he made our Disney Cruise experience much more magical. In every Disney experience I’ve had, from the parks to the service at the airport stores, I’ve been treated like a princess. Disney’s employees are passionate about their jobs and care about making each individual’s experiences memorable. Because of the way we’ve been treated, we want to continue having as many Disney experiences as possible and helping other guests have an amazing time. Since we had such a blast on our honeymoon cruise, we came back less than six months later! I loved making new friends on our second cruise and giving suggestions on activities to do and when to do them. Because we already enjoyed the magic on our first cruise, we wanted to help other first-timers fall in love with Disney. Fortunately, my Spanish-speaking abilities helped us connect with a family from Mexico. I loved keeping their kiddos entertained so the adults could relax in the hot tub. Being there for others never felt like a chore, only like a blessing. When our server at Remy went to a different floor and part of the ship to get us a drink we wanted, he was genuinely thrilled to make us happy. We told him not to worry about it, but he made it happen. On both of our cruises, we got to share our lives with our dining team and they got to share theirs. I loved hearing about different cultures and lifestyles. We can’t wait to plan more Disney trips! We want to go to all the parks around the world and do as many cruises as possible. We have been so impacted by Disney that we named our first puppy Mater, after Tow Mater from Cars. He constantly reminds us to make time to be goofy and exercise. Since we’ve loved exploring Disney’s private island in the Bahamas and watching unforgettable plays and shows, we want to bring our family and friends into the Disney sphere. I look forward to watching my mom sing and dance during the silent dance party. If you haven’t people watched in a silent room where everyone is jamming out to different songs in headphones, you should put it on your to-do list! Disney’s service makes us always choose them for our vacations. Their employees inspired us to spread as much kindness as possible. The quality of Disney amenities, food, drinks, performers, staff, and more makes Disney rise above other companies. My least favorite thing about Disney is remembering to sleep and take breaks. If it were up to me, I’d be partying with Mickey and Minnie all day and night. Luckily, 24/7 room service and a multitude of Disney movies made fun, late nights easy! I’m beyond grateful for the treatment we’ve received from Disney and I can’t wait to make more memories!
    Lauren Czebatul Scholarship
Hugging my two new Spanish-speaking friends from Peru after helping them get a house reminds me why I started volunteering in the first place—to make a difference and ensure I don’t trap myself in a limited worldview. Before I started volunteering in a variety of settings, I was ignorant, and I still am to a degree. There’s so much I’m learning about different cultures, lifestyles, and beliefs thanks to jumping into service experiences. I used to be quick to judge, but now I’m quick to listen. I want to hear and absorb people’s stories as well as share mine. How can I appreciate others if I don’t take the time to put myself on paths outside of my comfort zone? When I started volunteering, I was more focused on checking a box and going through the motions. I didn’t appreciate the value and the power one has as a volunteer. I didn’t realize how one smile or short conversation could change someone’s day, week, or life. Even though I’m far from perfect when it comes to my Spanish speaking, all I needed to do was try. I got more than a few puzzled looks, but we worked together to get on the same page. I could’ve easily given up or not taken extra time to help out, but I’m so glad I did. The hours I spent working with my Peruvian friends helped secure them housing for at least a year, many wonky restaurant suggestions from yours truly, and someone to always be on their side in a country where they know almost no one. I now have a mindset where I’m not afraid to take action and put myself in challenging situations. I’m confident in my ability to be there for anyone who needs me, and I can’t wait to have countless opportunities to help students as a future teacher! This scholarship would change my life because it'll open opportunities that would've otherwise been nearly impossible. For example, my husband and I want to increase our world knowledge through travel. Having less debt would help us volunteer in other countries and give us an opportunity to become more proficient in Spanish. I want to have the best tools to help kids that will be entering the school system that need assistance learning English. Travel isn’t cheap and we have many bills to cover on top of school. From raising our two wiener dogs, having two car payments, a rent payment, and regular life needs, money is tight. However, I always want to give as much as I can regardless of my financial situation. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship and being so generous!
    WCEJ Thornton Foundation Low-Income Scholarship
Laughing in the kitchen with powdered sugar everywhere, crying in the car from doing long-distance, and raising two crazy wiener dogs with my husband is my greatest achievement. I don't know how many individuals see getting married as an accomplishment, but it's my proudest. It’s exhausting and completely worth it to have a lifelong partner and best friend. From tough conversations to countless hours working on our marriage, I learned we can do anything together. Tyler and I experienced many life hardships before meeting, but we've learned the challenges won't stop once the knot is tied. We've already moved twice in less than a year, changed career paths, and lived with a portable toilet and sink for far too long. Despite unavoidable difficulties, I am beyond excited for our future. We push each other to challenge ourselves and try new things. We aren’t afraid to tell each other if one of us has a questionable idea, but we won't stop each other. I love how we balance creating a beautiful life together without making each other feel trapped. Our desire and commitment to educate ourselves and build life-long careers inspires me every day. Before Tyler, I focused on finding a boyfriend and overextending myself in my business classes and extracurriculars, but my husband helps me keep my priorities focused. I realized I need to chase my dreams, not do what everyone thinks I should do. For me, having a purpose and helping people is more important than a hefty paycheck. Looking forward to my classes rather than dreading them, like I once did, will be the difference between my success and failure. I learned that I must make time for self-care, whether it’s reading a book, working out, or taking a long shower, I have to find time to de-stress. Having an opportunity to follow a path that gives me joy and allows me to stay true to my values means the world to me. Specifically, I plan on being an elementary school teacher! Since I'm majoring in elementary education, I'll be able to teach students from kindergarten to eighth grade. I see myself teaching younger kids due to prior experiences with coaching and babysitting. My degree will give me hands-on experience working with children in a school environment. I'll gain the skills to create and execute lesson plans, address various behaviors, and incite a love for learning in the next generation. Besides being a teacher, my husband and I plan on having our own little ones in the next few years and potentially moving to a smaller town. This scholarship will assist my plans of spreading the importance of education, dedication, and generosity for the remainder of my life. From being a single eighteen-year-old to a married twenty-one-year-old, I've learned many valuable lessons, but I know I have countless more to conquer. I'm comforted because regardless of the hurdles that'll arise, my husband and I will persevere. I will become an elementary school teacher by focusing on my end goals while being present at every step. Married life is the best!
    Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
My husband shook his head at me as my leg bobbed up and down sitting in one of the most iconic places in the world—Broadway. Here I was, about to watch one of the last performances of Phantom of the Opera, having the song, “Welcome to New York,” playing on repeat in my head. Could he blame me though? We arrived less than two hours ago. We probably saw over twenty signs saying, “Welcome to New York.” I love this song because it became a core memory from this trip and reminded me of various times in my life. The city felt alive like this song makes me feel. I’ll never forget standing in the brisk night air on a rooftop balcony looking at Times Square. Like Taylor, I thought the lights were bright, but not blinding. They were inspiring. I felt like I could do anything, and be anyone. From atop the building, I took pictures of the view. At first glance, I thought the pictures were good, but not legendary. Once my brain, fingertips, and software transformed the photos, my love for photography and travel was reinvigorated. I didn’t want to go home, I wanted to absorb all of New York. Even though I had to say goodbye to the city, I never said goodbye to the song. The lyrics help me to never forget my experiences in Oklahoma, where I did two years of school. Even though Claremore wasn’t as bright or grand as New York, I related to Taylor’s lyrics about putting my broken heart in a drawer and starting fresh as a person. Everyone around me could choose a new path, a new identity, regardless of their pasts. It was refreshing to be somewhere where I didn’t know anyone, where people didn’t remind me of the time I faceplanted in front of everyone at an assembly in 5th grade. Although it was challenging to end things with my boyfriend and move across the country, it was worth it. I needed to branch out and leave my comfort zone. “Welcome to New York” continues to remind me of fond past memories while still being relatable today. Whenever my mind needs to escape to Central Park or Tulsa, this song takes me on a journey. Life is challenging and full of hardships, so having outlets to feel full again is life-changing. This song has become one of my key outlets. I can’t wait to hear what Taylor comes up with next!
    Charles Pulling Sr. Memorial Scholarship
I received a full-ride honors program scholarship (including out-of-state tuition and fees, room and board, books, and a meal plan) for four years at Rogers State University. However, I left this school over a year ago as this scholarship wasn't able to be used toward all degrees, including education. Although I was successful in my business classes, I didn't feel like I'd have a purpose in this field. I took time off to help my in-laws with their property management business. As with anything, there are pros and cons to this job, but it helped me realize what I wanted to do— teach students. My passion for helping the next generation with my husband’s support drives me to do more. We experienced many life hardships before meeting, from parent incarceration to childhood abuse, but we've learned the challenges won't stop once the knot is tied. We've already moved twice, spent many nights crying, and kept our two wiener dogs alive for almost a year! Without Tyler, I never would've given up my scholarship. In fact, I would've clung to it for dear life because of fear. Now I know I can get other scholarships and pursue the path I crave. I refuse to go through the motions and be complacent. I yearn to be an example to kids and a person they can come to for anything. Before Tyler, I focused on finding a boyfriend and overextending myself in my classes and extracurriculars, but my husband helps me keep my priorities focused. He helps me make time for myself to avoid burnout. Looking forward to my classes rather than dreading them, like I once did, will be the difference between my success and failure. Finishing school won't be easy, but having an accountability partner means the world to me. Additionally, if I don't earn scholarships for my education, that will influence more than my life. I want to do everything I can to financially help my partner. He deserves my best effort as does my future school and our future children. From being a single eighteen-year-old to a married twenty-one-year-old, I've learned many valuable lessons, but I know I have countless more to conquer. I'm comforted because regardless of the hurdles that'll arise, my husband and I will succeed. Currently, we rent from my in-laws in the guest house without plumbing. Yes, we have a portable sink and toilet and go to the main house to shower. Although it would be nice to have a more luxurious lifestyle, having our passions and each other is more than enough. Since I plan to be a first-generation graduate, I refuse to give up despite past setbacks.
