My name is Sarah Bingman. I am a graduate student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, working on a Master of Education in School Counseling. I plan to work with elementary kids in school. I have worked with children for most of my life in many settings. In the summer of 2022, I volunteered with a school psychologist at Tri-Valley School District. I worked closely with their school psychologist there, making a newsletter for parents with mental health resources, curriculum, local food services, and emergency mental health resources. I also created a presentation of the district's gifted program for teachers and a flowchart going through the district's Child Study Team procedures.
After graduating from Pennwet Clarion, I worked as a behavior interventionist at Schuylkill County Intermediate Unit #29. There, I worked with children with disabilities and special needs. I also as a Behavioral Health Technician, where I worked with children with special needs in a home, school, and community setting. Currently I am a preschool assistant teacher. I absolutely love working with the kids. They have challenged my thinking and made me a better, more rounded person. I plan to continue working with children with special needs in the future.

What profoundly fuels my unwavering dedication to the field of human services is the transformative power of compassion and support, as I have witnessed its remarkable effect on individuals and families grappling with adversity. Reflecting on my own journey, I recall numerous moments where even the simplest act of kindness seemed to rewrite the narrative of someone’s life. This enlightening realization serves as an enduring catalyst for my fervent desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
My journey into this vocation unfurled during my undergraduate years when I embraced the role of a volunteer at a vibrant local art center, a true hub for diverse community members. This experience was nothing short of eye-opening; as I immersed myself in the lives of countless families, I became acutely aware of the myriad challenges they faced on a daily basis. I encountered individuals confronting significant hardships—some grappling with economic instability, others processing deep personal losses—yet amidst their struggles, they held onto a flicker of hope, often expressed through the vibrant bursts of creativity that surrounded them. These poignant interactions were both humbling and inspiring, igniting within me an ardent desire to effect change—not merely as a future school counselor but as a steadfast advocate for transformation in my community.
As I set my sights on becoming a school counselor, I embraced my role as a fierce advocate for all students, perceiving this commitment as a significant responsibility that transcended mere titles. I actively sought innovative and effective strategies to support not only my school community but also the broader world that lay beyond its walls. This commitment involved forging collaborations with fellow educators and colleagues to design programs specifically tailored to address the unique needs of students and their families. I spearheaded outreach initiatives that connected families with vital resources—ranging from food assistance and mental health services to educational support—that they might have desperately needed but previously had no access to.
Moreover, I engaged wholeheartedly in community initiatives, orchestrating workshops and information sessions designed to empower families with the knowledge and skills required to navigate their challenges. My passion for this work runs deep, fueled by a tangible joy that emanates from uplifting and empowering the lives of those around me. Each success story from a student or family I’ve had the privilege to support reinforces my dedication to this vital work. I remain steadfast in my commitment to nurturing hope and resilience in those who find themselves in the depths of struggle, firmly believing in the potential of every individual to triumph over adversity when provided with the proper support and encouragement.
