I am Sarah Babson from Houston, Texas. I was raised by a resilient single mother who worked tirelessly to provide for our family. Her determination taught me the value of ambition and hard work, and I dreamed of breaking barriers—not just for myself but for others like me. My goal is to inspire Black women from low-income households to envision a future where they are not just surviving but thriving as reputable forces in society.
My fascination with technology began at an early age, driven by a desire to understand how things work and create innovative solutions. This passion led me to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at Texas Tech University, where I built a foundation in analytical thinking and problem-solving. However, I craved a deeper connection to data-driven insights, which inspired me to pursue a Master of Data Science at the University of Pennsylvania. This program is equipping me with the tools to merge technical expertise with societal impact.
I am passionate about empowering others to dream beyond limitations. Representation matters, and I want to be a beacon of hope for young Black women who may not see themselves reflected in STEM fields. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to pursue my Ivy League education without financial barriers, enabling me to focus on excelling academically and achieving my vision of uplifting others. This opportunity is not just an investment in my education but in the future, I aim to create.

Redefining Victory Scholarship
As a little girl growing up in Houston, Texas, I often sat on the floor beside my mother as she juggled bills, worried about how to make ends meet. My mother, a single parent, worked tirelessly to provide for us, instilling in me the values of resilience, ambition, and perseverance. Watching her determination and grit inspired me to dream bigger—not only for myself but for others like me. I wanted to break barriers and become a role model for Black women from low-income households, proving that success is possible even in the face of adversity.
For me, success is not defined by titles, income, or accolades. True success is about breaking barriers and paving the way for others to do the same. It is about proving to young Black women—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds—that their circumstances do not define their potential. Success means being a living example of what is possible when hard work meets opportunity, inspiring others to dream big and pursue those dreams unapologetically.
Growing up, I often felt the weight of societal limitations placed on women like me. Statistics told me I was unlikely to succeed, but I refused to let those numbers dictate my future. I chose to defy the odds and pursue higher education, becoming the first in my family to earn a degree in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University. That accomplishment was not just a personal milestone—it was proof that hard work and determination could open doors I once thought were out of reach.
However, I didn’t stop there. I knew my journey was far from over, and I wanted to continue pushing boundaries, not only for myself but for the communities I hope to inspire. Today, I am pursuing a Master of Data Science at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League institution that represents the pinnacle of academic excellence. This step is not just about personal growth but about amplifying my ability to inspire others. My goal is to show young women from backgrounds like mine that anything is possible with determination and access to opportunities.
This scholarship would be a pivotal part of my journey. As a first-generation college graduate and a woman of color pursuing higher education, financial barriers have always been a significant challenge. Receiving this scholarship would eliminate those obstacles, allowing me to focus fully on my studies and the greater purpose behind them. It would enable me to continue breaking barriers and build a life dedicated to empowering others to dream beyond their circumstances.
When I think about success, I think about the young girl I used to be—the one who needed to see someone like me achieving what seemed impossible. I want to be that inspiration for others. I want to walk into rooms where women like me are rarely seen and open doors for the next generation to follow. To me, success is about using my story and achievements to show others that their dreams are valid and achievable, no matter where they start.
By awarding me this scholarship, you are not just supporting my education but investing in a legacy of inspiration and empowerment. With your help, I can continue my journey of breaking barriers and proving that true success lies in lifting others as you rise. Together, we can show the world that anything is possible for those willing to dream big and work hard. This scholarship will not only help me achieve my goals but also enable me to inspire countless others to achieve theirs.
